(More customer reviews)Even if you saw or taped the television show, this DVD is worth buying. I got a copy of it a couple of months ago from the fan club, so I've already viewed it numerous times.
With this DVD, you get two versions of the show: what was aired on CBS and what was taped. The taped version is full of funny outakes, redos (his "frog" at the end of Mandy), interesting talk and even an extra song (Somewhere Down the Road). Also Barry's peronal dialogue is on that version.
An entertaining show, an uptempo audience and Manilow's irresistable melodies in top form. Don't miss it!

(More customer reviews)I was stunt to see the DVD on the store shelf. Being Al Stewart's fan since "Year of the Cat", I bought it with great feelings. The band is "Shot in the Dark" in his '79 album "24 Carrots." The songs are well chosen, especially "The Palace of Versailles" and "Valentina Way." I enjoy watching Peter White with the guitar in "On The Border" as much as I did in Al's concert in San Francisco back in 1983. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys the sound of guitars, sax, and piano.

Roxy Music - Live at the Apollo (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)Without rehashing the astute comments of other reviewers, here's what your 20 plus bucks will get you: One of the absolute best (in every way) concerts ever captured on film, bar none! From the material selected (Ferry said that he had a "short list of 50 songs" from which this final list emerged) to the stage set; from the DTS/Dolby surround mix to the camera work; from the audience/band rapport to the incredible musicianship, this has it all.
As good as Roxy Music's studio recordings are, they could never match the live performance, and this DVD is proof positive (compare, for example, the original version of 'Mother of Pearl' to this one). I caught Bryan Ferry in concert about 10 years ago (with Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and drummer Andy Newmark), and as good as it was, this concert was better. With four of the original members (including drummer Paul Thompson) augmented by equally talented support musicians Colin Good (piano), Zev Katz (bass), Lucy Wilkins (violin, keyboards and synth) and Julia Thornton (percussion, keyboards and vibraphone), the result is nearly magical. Flawless musicianship, exhuberant stage dynamics and thrilling versions of great songs make this an almost life-affirming experience. (Good, Katz and Thornton were part of the small orchestral backing group Ferry used in his 'Bryan Ferry in Concert-Live in Paris' release of 2000)
While some may quibble about the song selections (I would like to have seen 'Angel Eyes' included), to see and hear musicians of this calibre whenever the mood strikes (which for me is daily) is something special. It is impossible to recommend this DVD too highly.

(More customer reviews)First of all, I am as big of a MJ supporter as you can get...I have website, and promotion to show that he innocent...however..that can't take away from the fact that THIS SUCKED!
First of all....why the hell did he put a CBS special on a DVD? I mean....leave it on TV, the special wasn't that good in the first place. It didn't show my favorite MJ material, that were number ones...including : We Are The World, Remember The Time, In The Closet, You Are Not Alone, Earth Song, and You Rock My World.!
Only 39 minutes!? How ridiculous.

The Allman Brothers Band - Live at the Beacon Theatre (2003) Review

Here The Allman Brothers Band present an uncut 2 Hour and 48 minute concert recorded in March 2003 at The Beacon Theater in New York. Although a few Allman Brothers classics like Ramblin Man, Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, and Revival are not here they are included on other video releases and what is included here is excellent and worthy of 5 stars. The 5.1 sound and video quality are excellent and the band is as tight as they have ever been. This version of the Allman Brothers Band (Founding members Gregg Allman, Jaimoe, and Butch Trucks, along with longtime band members Warren Haynes, Marc Quinones, and Oteil Burbridge, and more recent addition Derek Trucks doing a good job filling Dickie Betts' shoes) seem to be really enjoying themselves on stage and it comes through in the quality of the music.
Besides the concert, the double DVD release also includes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes of interviews and behind the scenes footage. There is a also a very good dressing room performance of Old Friend by Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks along with a photo gallery and discography.

Duran Duran - Greatest - The DVD (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)Featuring twenty-one songs, and clocking in just short of an hour and forty-five minutes, this compilation of Duran Duran's "greatest" videos is a much more generous and comprehensive overview of the group's wildly inconsistent 17-year career than anything currently available on CD. Well, let's face it, with Duran Duran the videos were always an essential part of the package that completed the (new) romantic promise of their already (fairly) good music.
"Planet Earth" (from 1981) looks amusingly quaint now: the Edwardian frill shirts and Kabuki makeup - along with the stiff-spastic-marionette dancing and Futurist sets - mark this early clip as a quintessential Blitz Kid time-capsule.
The uncensored "Girls on Film" still arouses us as an ever-dubious attempt to merge sub-Roxy Music decadence with a barrage of mid-Eighties Playboy-channel cliches (and I DO continue to relish the sweet sight of that LUSCIOUS boudoir tart straddling a feather-covered phallic pole in her sheer black scanties!). Still, "Girls" never transcends the surface titillation offered by its self-consciously chic litany of soft-core S&M-lite posturings, nor does it really have the guts to explore or confront its own darker implications.
The next video, "The Chauffeur," is the collection's darkly gleaming gem. Shot in intimate, otherworldly black-and-white, this insinuatingly erotic mini-epic about a femme-lesbian rendezvous at a desolate London underground parkade in the dead of night is, I believe, this group's musicodramatic masterpiece. Fluid, rhythmic crosscutting blends together the stark, luminous chiaroscuro imagery to devastating effect. And the ghostly sight of those three sculptured beauties swaying and undulating in their fetishistic undress...ahhh, you won't find anything as deeply or blissfully kinky as THAT on late-night cable these days!
The next three clips, "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Save A Prayer," and "Rio," are all well-known and still entertaining to watch. "Wolf" is the best of the three - as yet another tale of lustful pursuit and orgasmic conquest/submission, it combines cinematic allusions ("Gunga Din," "Bridge Over the River Kwai," and "Apocalypse Now") as camp signposts on a journey into the jungle heart of feral eroticism. "Save A Prayer" has some nice romantic images of Buddhist monuments and native youths stilt-fishing in the Indian Ocean, as well as a few panoramic aerial shots of a sacred plateau and a final procession of saffron-robed monks illuminated by torchlight. "Rio" is exuberantly naive and amateurish - this is the one with them posing on a yacht in the Caribbean, a neat trick which (unfortunately) convinced many that the group really did inhabit a continuous episode of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."
"Is There Something I Should Know?" is a rather vague and arbitrary bit of classic New Wave kitsch-cryptic surrealism featuring men in Magritte bowler hats and forbiddingly spare Cubist décor, while "Union of the Snake" is merely a flaccid and indigestible boondoggle of Oriental menace and crude forced sexuality.
While a dandy little song by itself, the video for "New Moon on Monday" badly flubs its potentially intriguing premise - revolutionaries organizing an underground resistance movement in some unidentified Eastern European police state. In what has to be one of the most painful moments in all of music video history, our lads end up feebly pantomiming their exultant chorus like earnest teenage wannabes at a talent(less) competition...while several megatons of pyrotechnics detonate everywhere around them!
"The Reflex" is a colorful and well-made attempt at a fake "live" video - but the teenybopper quotient renders it just a little cringe-worthy. The legendary "Wild Boys" now looks like an hysterically overblown slab of "Thriller"-era excess - complete with absurd post-apocalyptic jungle-gym-cum-torture-rack sets; dizzyingly baroque camera angles and vertiginous cutting; snarling, shaven-headed zombies in alabaster body paint, tribal-dancing and somersaulting with atavistic abandon; our hero suspended from a tattered old windmill and...oh, I could go on, but why bother? On the other hand, "A View to a Kill" - the famed James Bond theme - compensates with a simple self-deprecating wit that makes it stand out as one of Duran X 2's most cleverly inventive and enjoyable videos. "Bon...Simon Le Bon," indeed!
After that we get "the new Duran Duran" - a bit less flashy, a bit more "mature." "Notorious" has some nice footage of lean, wiry female models jiving and strutting but the video is ruined by way too many herky-jery camera movements and worsened by frenzied, dissonant cutting. "Skin Trade" has a more controlled rhythm and makes an appealing use of vivid bright colors and matted backdrops. "I Don't Want Your Love" is still surprisingly fresh and fun...perhaps more so than it was the first time around. "All She Wants Is" is a vaguely DEVOesque domestic statement with a lot of blinding, distorted, hypnotic strobe-neon effects and a pretty, pouting girl that I can either love or leave.
The mid-tempo yawner "Serious" (the only semi-bearable moment from their gawdawful "Liberty" album) is the most negligible of the bunch here, as is the rather pointless retrospective sampling, "Burning the Ground."
"Ordinary World" is a triumphant return to form - gorgeous, melancholy romanticism beautifully realized with classical guitar and the lyrical image of a bride wandering amidst golden-toned boughs of weeping willow trees. "Come Undone" is another great song, although I'm not quite so sure about the video. Hmmm...an aquarium full of exotic sea creatures, a ginger-haired young siren chained underwater, a middle-aged dowdy inserting disparate household objects into a blender, a tortured transvestite confronting himself in the vanity mirror...are these folks all meant to represent displaced personalities who have "come undone"?
The recent (and mildly scandalous) "Electric Barbarella" is a catchy electronic dance ditty that brings Double D full circle (cf. Roxy Music's "In Every Dream-home a Heartache"). This last video - about a battery-operated, remote-controlled, life-sized Barbie-doll that suddenly animates to dizzy, ditzy life - is light-hearted and witty, it's also perversely, artificially sexy like a Pedro Almodovar film. Zap me, Barbie!

Mariah Carey/Adventures of Mimi (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been a big fan of Mariah and own almost all of her video albums. This is by far, I believe, the most vivid live concert video available shot in widescreen and in HD. The concert is very entertaining and enjoyable. I watched it twice in a row as soon as I inserted this blu-ray. Mariah performs very well with all her great voice. To be honest, I expected she would have hard time singing songs with high notes because of her aging but I was wrong. In the concert, she proves she still can sing as before! I felt the concert was rather short even though it was 80 minutes long. I mean I wanted more! She could have sung more songs such as "Without You", "Emotions", "Love Takes Time", etc. It was great to see Boyz II Men and Mariah sing "One Sweet Day" together. Of course, Trey Lorenz, one of the back vocals of the concert, sings his part for "I'll Be There". Mariah, keep up the good work with your beautiful smile!
The concert itself deserves five stars but I have to take one off because of the clumsy production. Spotligting is not very accurate but most of all, camera work is, I would say, horrible! Firstly, you will see too much of audience shots in the latter part of the show. For example, when MC sings "Hero", almost half of the shots are done with audience. You will even remember some people in the audience after watching because of repetitious and long-staying zoom-ins. Who cares about audience that much? Who wants to miss the main performer instead? Secondly, there are many cases that a camera misses the hightlight of a song and the performer failing enhancing the mood of the song. For example, when MC sings with such high notes covering her ear (you know what I mean), the camera suddenly zoom out and shows the whole arena or people instead. In addition, there are some blurry/unfocused and pointless shots. So, I'm sure that the concert would have been much more enjoyable with a better production.
Technically, PQ is 4.5/5 (VC-1 coding) IMO and AQ is 5/5 with uncompressed PCM 5.1/2.0. Extras are good: I liked the Karaoke especially.

(More customer reviews)Being the massive Britney Spears fan that I am, I knew straight away that I had to own this DVD. It was just released in the UK two days ago, and I bought it on the day it was released, which was also two days after one of the greatest nights of my life. You see, on Saturday May 1st 2004 I travelled to Manchester in England to see Britney Spears live on part of her Onyx Hotel Tour that is currently sweeping the world! My voice is gradually returning, but losing it (along with my head) was worth it just to see her up close! Currently on a Spears-high, this DVD was my most essential purchase for quite a few weeks, and I am very happy with it, not only because it contains so many brilliant features, but because it is a perfect addition to any true fans' collection!
People have complained that all the material on this DVD has already been on TV countless times before, but not everyone lives in America (I don't), so most of the stuff on here was new to me. The DVD cover is the same as the multi-platinum No.1 album "In The Zone," and this instantly makes the two sort of companions to each other. The first feature on the DVD is probably the best of the lot. It's the ABC Television Special - "Britney Spears: In The Zone" which was broadcast across America on the eve of the release of Britney's fourth album. In an intimate setting Britney performs to some of her biggest fans. She sings "Toxic," "Breathe On Me," "Boys/I'm A Slave 4 U," "(I Got That) Boom Boom," "Everytime," "...Baby One More Time" and "Me Against The Music." Seven great songs there, seven great performances. Woven in-between these performances are some brilliant clips of Britney during the recording process of the album. The best one for me is where Britney is in a Taxi and feeling free for the first time in a while - you can see tears in her eyes too. Very sweet!
After this fantastic feature, we move on to MTV's "Spankin New Music Week On TRL" Times Square Performance. This is yet another brilliant feature because we get to see one of Britney's first public performances of 2003 after her year-long hiatus. She sings "Me Against The Music" and "(I Got That) Boom Boom" featuring Ying Yang Twins Live. Both performances are brilliant and her pants are so cool! And her hat! After this, we move onto the full-length video to "Me Against The Music" featuring Madonna. This really is one of Britney's greatest music videos to date and was very pricey too! Two icons duetting on one spectacular, dance-tastic smash hit is a feast for the eyes! Everyone has seen this video a million times, though!
We then move onto a really cool feature, which is MTV's "Making The Video" for "Toxic." This has been shown before, but it's nice to finally own it for yourself. We see the brilliant production of Britney's true comeback song and we also see a really funny and charismatic superstar at the centre. The best bits are when Britney watches her old "Making The Video" series from years past, and when she breaks the plunger that she uses to climb up the wall, especially when she claims, "I am SO strong!" She's so sweet. Then of course we get the full video to "Toxic," which is absolutely spectacular! If this doesn't win multiple VMA's in August/September later on this year, there's something wrong! This is the song that has rightfully put Britney back on top in 2004 as the world's biggest superstar! A massive No.1 all over the world and one of the biggest radio hits of the past year has made this already an anthemic, classic pop tune. We then get "In The Personal Zone" which is a fantastic documentary in which Britney reveals all on Inspiration, Spirituality, ABC Special, Onyx Hotel Tour, TRL Performance and Toxic. We also get a really sexy photo gallery of Britney!
Also includes along with this DVD is a four-track Bonus CD. I have the UK Region 2 DVD version of this, so the two main songs I have are "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and "Girls And Boys." However, as an American purchaser you get "The Answer" and "Don't Hang Up," which are two brilliant songs (the former R'n'B, the latter Dance) that feature on my version of the In The Zone album! Very confusing indeed, but there's also two fantastic remixes included! These are "Toxic (Lenny Bertoldo's Radio Mix)" and "Me Against The Music (Bloodshy & Avant's Chix Mix)." I personally prefer the Toxic remix, but the remix of Me Against The Music isn't bad either!
OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
In the past we've received some brilliant Britney Spears DVD's. We've had "Time Out With Britney" and "Live And More!" which were both superb. We then had the rather disappointing "Britney: The Videos," followed by the amazing "Britney Spears: Live From Las Vegas" and "Crossroads." Of course, there was the brilliant DVD included with the book Stages that followed Britney around on the Mexican leg of her Dream Within A Dream Tour of 2002. I have to say though, that "In The Zone" is the best DVD/video that Britney has released to date! I suggest that if you're a big Britney fan you buy this straight away, you won't regret it!

Dio - Holy Diver Live (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Ronnie James Dio DEFINES quality Heavy Metal. So it's about time that he now has a DVD release that also defines how a music DVD should be done.
This performance of the 2005 Holy Diver tour was captured live at London's Astoria. The show features the Holy Diver album in its entirety, from start to finish, with other Dio, Rainbow and Black Sabbath classics.
The concert portion of the disk is all show. No indulgence by some videographer that thinks a viewer wants to see effects like cut to black and white or split screen pop ups. The picture is crystal clear, and most importantly, the video doesn't jump around every 4 seconds, so you really get to see the performance in a way that feels like you have a front row seat to the concert instead of sitting there watching a DVD.
The sound is terrific. If you've got a surround system you're in for a pounding Heavy Metal experience. You get your choice of Dolby 5.1 (which I have found usually gives the best playback for a concert DVD with my surround system), DTS or Dolby stereo.
Ronnie is excellent. This guy has held up extremely well; there's barely a crack in the vocal armor that has been RJD's signature sound for more than 30 years. Missing are Jimmy Bain, Vinnie Appice and Viv Cambell. In are a group of guys with some impressive resumes: Rudy Sarzo on Bass, Simon Wright on Drums, Doug Aldrich is spectacular on guitar (Craig Goldy was out on injured reserve) and Scott Warren on keyboards. All of the guys are on. They clearly committed to each other to give performances that were true to the studio versions, and their performances indeed channel the original line-up precisely.

Double Down Live (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)The first DVD in this set is the legendary 1980 German TV Rockpalast performance the band performed on their red hot Deguello Tour. I was fortunate enough to see the band on this tour and have been hooked ever since. If you have never experienced the band live from this period you are in for a totally jaw dropping experience. Chances are pretty good you will find yourself cracking a beer before the first few songs are through so it may be wise to have the refrigerator stocked up. This stunning show has been circulating in bootleg form among collectors for many years (for good reason) but to finally have it with cleaner sound and a clearer picture is a dream come true. This is ZZ TOP in their prime! Disc 2 is a bit of a departure as it is more or less a "rockumentary" of the band on tour, intersperced with some hot live concert footage from their 2008 tour....somewhat of a video diary of the bands life on the road. It would have been nice to have this concert available in it's full uncut form as it smokes yet I found much of the footage of the band off stage to be strangely intriging to say the least. There's more going on under those beards than meets the eye. Make no mistake though the real gem of this collection is the 1980 show which is totally priceless and completely worth the price of admission.....essential to any fan of great Tex-Mex Boogie & Blues..

The very basic packaging tells you that this is a no frills DVD. Many of MJ's best videos are presented and that is all you get. No fancy menu or insert. No live performances, interviews, commercials or still gallery. Nothing. Not even a discography. This doesn't cut it in this day and age of DVD. The videos are great, but this is hardly a difinitive collection. Expecially since all of these (save "You Rock My World") are already available on other discs. And why do video collections keep getting released with shortened or re-edited videos? We want the FULL original video ok! Is that too much to ask?
It's hard to go wrong with an MJ music video and these are all great. But this DVD could have (and should have) been definitie. Instead it's just yet another collection of videos collectors already have.

1.Fat- Parody of ''Bad'' By Michael Jackson, Shot on 3/12/88
This grammy award winning Video was shot on a culver city soundstage on a subway set donated by Michael Jackson himself. For this video Al's make-up nearly took 3 hours to apply.
2.Amish Paradise- Parody of ''Gangstas Paradise'' by Coolio shot in Febuary of 96 with appearances by Florence Henderson who plays the Michelle Pfeiffer role in this tale of life on the mean streets of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. One shot in this required Al to phonetically sing the lyrics backwards while walking in reverse through a busy barnyard.
3.It's All About The Pentiums, Parody of ''It's all about the Benjamins'' By Puffy Daddy Video shot in July of 99, this video features cameos by two of the funniest people in the world-, Emo Phillips and Drew Carey.
4.Smells like Nirvana- 1992- Parody of ''Smells like Teen Spirit'' By Nirava, Rolling Stone put this on their list of the top 100 Videos of All Time & Al was nominated for best male performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. This video also used the same janitor as in the video Smells like Teen spirit. Dick Van Patten also turns in a stellar performance.
5.You Dont Love me Anymore- 1992, This song is an Al Original although the video was closely modeled after ''More than Words'' by Extreme.
6.Bedrock Anthem- Parody of Under the Bridge and Give it Away by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shot in 93- This video was shot on the same exact patch of dessert as the original. The Bee Girl from the Blind Melon video makes an appearance, as does Al's Aunt Dot.
7.Gump- Parody of ''Lump'' by The Presidents Of The United States Of America shot in April Of 1996, Al tells the complete story of Forrest Gump In under 2 minutes. Pat Boone appears in a bench cameo.
8.Jurassic Park, Airing October 93, Parody of ''MacArthur Park'' by Richard Harris-This video went on to be nominated for a Grammy and is still a big favorite in animation festivals around the world.
9.Headline News- parody of ''Mmmm,Mmmm,Mmmm,Mmmm'' by the Crash Test Dummies aired in Oct of 94 and set the legends of John Wayne Bobbitt, Tonya Harding and Singapore Caning victim Michael Fay to the tune of 1994's most hummable hit.
10.Dare To Be Stupid- Although an original composition, 1985's ''Dare to be Stupid'' is a homage to the group Devo, as well as, of course, Al's Motto in Life. I have to say this video is brilliant. This is one of my favorite Weird Al Videos. It incorporates Devo style with Weird Als Genius.
11.Eat It- Febuary of 1984, Parody of '' Beat It'' by Michael Jackson. Al's Grammy Award Winning Parody ''Eat It'' was an immediate international success.
12.Like A Surgeon, Parody of Madonna's '' Like A Virgin'' filmed in March of 85, this video was filmed in an actual hospital that had gone out of business. This, along with the videos ''Dare to be Stupid'' & One More Minute were done as part of a home-video release and television special called '' The Compleat Al''.13.UHF, shot in June 1989- The video shot for the Original Themesong from Al's Movie was perhaps his most ambitious to date. Al and his band parody in order: Guns n Roses, George Michael, Robert Palmer, Prince, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, ZZ Top, Billy Idol, The Beatles, INXS & Randy Newman. Also features guest appearances like Michael Richards & more.
14.Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies- Parody of Money For Nothin' by Dire Straits shot in January of 1989 and was also the centerpiece of Al's Movie UHF, This video features the computer animation of Rick Morris.
15.One More Minute, 1985- This original sick and twisted Elvis like Doo-Wop love ballad has become a perenial favorite among the relationship impaired. Al's long time band members Jim West, Steve Jay and Jon ''Bermuda'' Schwartz supply the cheesy choreography. Also watch for Al ripping up a picture of the woman who inspired the song.
16.I Lost On Jeopardy, Parody of Jeopardy by Greg Kihn, shot in 1984, is a nostalgic tribute to the old Jeopardy game show. Cameos by original host Art Fleming & original show announcer Don Pardo. Al's mentor Dr. Demento, Al's real parents and Greg Kihn himself.
17.This is the Life- filmed in 84 its a 1930's flavored original and was the theme song for the 1930s gangster spoof ''Johnny Dangerously'' with Micheal Keaton and Danny Devito.
18.Living With A Hernia, Parody of ''Living In America'' by James Brown. Filmd in 86 this parody was shot on the same stage where the Godfather Of Soul shot his scenes for Rocky IV.
19.Spy Hard- Al's third movie theme was the title song from Hollywood Pictures action Spoof Spy Hard starring Leslie Nielson. Shot in 96.
20.Ricky- Parody of ''Mickey'' by Toni Basil, Filmed in April of 83, this one was Al's Music Video Debut. This was arguably the first comedy video ever shown on MTV.
21.Christmas At Ground Zero- This cheery Phil Spector inspired original tune about death, destruction and the end of the world was largely banned by broadcasters, that somehow decided it was a tad morbid to play a song about nuclear annihiliation during the Holidays. A compilation of cold war era scare tactic footage is capped by a live-action shot filmed in the Bronx. Airdate. November 21, 1986.
22.I Love Rocky Road, June of 1983, A Parody of Joan Jett's ''I Love Rock-n-Roll is a tribute to Al's favorite Ice Cream Flavor.
23.Bob- Shot in June of 2003, This is a homage to Bob Dylan's ''Subterranean Homesick Blues'' video Which was part of the Documentary Dont Look Back. Filmed in an alley in downtown L.A. It was shot as part of an ''AL-TV'' special that aired on VH1 10 Days Later.
24.The Saga Begins- Aired June 1999, A Parody of Don Mclean's ''American Pie'' is an MTV Unplugged take-off on Star Wars- Episode 1, The Phantom Menace. Shot in a blistering Hot Mojave Desert & a comfy air conditioned soundstage in North Hollywood California.
Special Features- Extras Include clips from the Weird Al Show, a rare 1981 performance clip from NBC's The Tomorrow Show, a photo gallery and on-screen lyrics option!!!
I also hear theres a hidden Easter Egg on the Special Features Section, Highlight ''Weird Al'', then press up and youll be treated to the video ''My Bologna''.
Overall, great collection of episodes and highly recommended to any Weird Al Fan or anyone who just likes to laugh and enjoys good comedy.

(More customer reviews)This DVD is good yet disappointing at the same time. This should have been nothing but the best of the best performances. Simply put, there are not enough of them here. Those that are included are true showstoppers, especially those by Clay and Bo, but too many have been left out including Clay's amazing rendition of Neil Sedaka's "Solitaire" which prompted the singer/songwriter Sedaka to say he would love to write and produce Clay's first CD. There are other omissions on this DVD from other finalists but the most serious and blatantly obvious omission is Tamyra Gray's beautiful, moving and haunting performance of "A House Is Not A Home." I'd like to know who the idiot is who chose not to put this on the DVD. I'll never forget a tearful Paula Abdul giving a standing ovation for that one. Did the people who put this DVD together not realize we would like to see more of the actual musical performances. I would have liked to see not only more of the performances by talents such as Clay, Kelly and Bo, but some of the other talented finalists as well including Kimberly Locke and George Huff. At least they were smart enough to put LaToya's amazing "Don't Rain On My Parade" in this collection. But, there should have been so much more. This DVD is a must for American Idol fans but it could have been so much better. That is my biggest complaint: There should have been many more performances and less of the forgettable nonsense.

American Idol - The Worst of Seasons 1-4 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)For me the best part of American Idol is watching the horrible audtions at the start of each season. These poor souls actually believe they have what it takes to make it to the big time. The sad part is they REALLY believe they can make it, sometimes they have family members who encourage them. Some say that these have to be fakes, people can't be this bad. Well they can be, they can't be that good of actors!!
This DVD has some of the best worst performances from the first four seasons. You get William Hung, you get that guy singing "Like A Virgin", you get my personal favorite, Mary Roach. You've got to credit these people for at least having the guts to get up there and try.
Now for the part that's not so great about this set. Many of the songs have been cut, I would guess because they couldn't get the rights to them. By cutting out the songs, you don't really get to see why they are being so harshly judged. So the judges come off as being rude for no real reason.
Aside from that, this DVD is great fun. But again how many of us would have the guts to get up there ourselves??

George Michael: Live in London (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)As someone who saw George on his U.S. 25LIVE tour in 2008, I can say that this blu ray does a great job of reproducing the live experience. The video and audio are fantastic!
VIDEO: All the vibrant colors of the light show are brilliantly reproduced. The wide variety of camera angles have been well edited together, giving you a sense of the show from every seat in the house while keeping it visually interesting. For you videophiles out there, very occasionally, there is a little macroblocking as the camera pans across the LED wall, but this is not distracting or prevalent.
AUDIO: I was concerned by some negative comments about the sound on this recording, but I was pleasantly surprised by the audio. I had to switch from the stereo track to the DTS-HD track, but after that, the audio was great. It might be a little bass-heavy, but that is how the performance was originally engineered, and it never interferes with the vocals or the other instrumentals. I suspect other reviewers' concerns are caused by the live performance nature of the show. At any rate, I can say that it sounds like the original show, and I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable.
SONG SELECTION: Just about every song you'd want to hear at a George Michael retrospective is here. I personally would have traded a few of the songs from his "Patience" album for older hits (I Want Your Sex), but I don't begrudge his wanting to perform recent work in front of an audience. It is also fun to see the inflatable parody of George W. Bush that was understandably omitted from the U.S. tour. The following is the disc's set list:

BONUS FEATURES: The 42 minute documentary is a bit fluffy and silly, but it gives a nice taste of the European tour. It's nice to have the crew behind his performances introduced, even if we don't really learn more than their names. It's especially interesting to see the little changes he made to his set list for specific locations.
In summary, if you're a George Michael fan, you should definitely pick this up. It's likely the only performance you'll get on home media from George Michael, and it's a great one. On blu ray, it looks and sounds fantastic.

Pure 80's: The DVD (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)If MTV was smart, and they used to be, along with funny, relevant, and entertaining (they even played music videos all the time!) It was on all day in my house, and you could always count on the VJs passing along some wacky facts, or artists dropping by who could actually speak coherently. Anyway, MTV could make their massive video catalog available to the public. You could browse online and choose the videos you wanted, pay $2-$3 each and MTV would either create a custom DVD for you and send it out, or you could download them and make your own DVDs. I would gladly pay to have several DVDs that contained only the videos I wanted. And there are about 100 I want, just off the top of my head.
As it is, I am happy to watch my old and fading copies made back then and occasionally catch an old great on VH1 Classic, rather than have someone else pick out 10 videos, 4 of which I may want, the rest I don't. This one did nothing for me. Luckily it was a gift. I never would've bought it for myself.

I was a little spectical at first but Im glad I bought this. Great for a American Idol beginner [like me.] or a avid watcher. I reccomend buying the best and worst together because you get a great bouns disc. This set is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time.Disc one
Disc one is "The Best of American Idol". It features all the winning Idols audtions {Kelly Clarkson,Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Burrino and Carrie Underwood} You also get the runner-up audtions {Justin Gurinni, Clay Akien, Diana DeGarmo and Bo Bice.} Plus featuretts on how the show is made, "Cuddles" a extremely funny {yet disturbing} short with Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell going on a date. "Your a Star" with montages of good and bad audtions. This disk is great if you want to see great Kelly Clarkson preformances. If you want to see bad audtions get the worst of.
Disc 2
Disc two is "The Worst of American Idol". With Paula Abdul taking us through, we have everyone's favorites. {Mary Roach, Tamika Bush, Scat Girl and more.} Not only will you get William Hung's "She Bangs" audtion but you also get a extended audtion and "She Bangs" proformed with dancers!!! Be sure to take asprin before you watch this disc. Winning and Fun, this disc will be your favorite.
Disc 3
Disc 3 only comes if you buy the "Best and Worst" together. If you are fans of season 4 this disc is totally for you. Packed with interviews with Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice, this disc is OK if you like Carrie. The interview with Carrie lasts about 42:00 and unless you are a mega Carrie fan you'll get a kick out of the interviews. Bo Bice is very funny. I am a big Bice fan and I was so happy to see the Bicer in action! His interview was very very funny. The best feature on the disc is the "Carrie and Bo return home" feature. This feature allows viewers to go in-deph to where Carrie and Bo grew up. {The most winning thing on the disc is watching Bo return home!}
This is the number 1 thing for an American Idol fan to have. You won't be able to live without it. The only thing that bugs me is Carrie's profomance of "Could've Been" by Tiffany isn't here. There could've been more Consentine moments here. I think you only get one preformance from him. That's ok, Buy this now!!
