Branch Warren: Unchained Raw Reality Bodybuilding (2007) Review

Branch Warren: Unchained Raw Reality Bodybuilding (2007)

For participants and/or fans of the sport of bodybuilding, this is a must see. The gym sessions with Branch are uncensored but ring true and are well filmed. Most of the sequences are in black and white, which adds to the intense effect. Branch is as hardcore as they come, and I have tremendous respect for his work ethic and determination which brought him to the world of professional bodybuilding. The training sessions amply explain why he has already won and placed in several top competitions (including a top 10 in the Olympia).
There is also a second disc in the package, which shows Branch at home with his wife and that is also very well done. He is a multi faceted athlete and individual, and this is highly recommended as a top viewing experience.

Mariah Carey/Adventures of Mimi (2007) Review

Mariah Carey/Adventures of Mimi (2007)

I've been a big fan of Mariah and own almost all of her video albums. This is by far, I believe, the most vivid live concert video available shot in widescreen and in HD. The concert is very entertaining and enjoyable. I watched it twice in a row as soon as I inserted this blu-ray. Mariah performs very well with all her great voice. To be honest, I expected she would have hard time singing songs with high notes because of her aging but I was wrong. In the concert, she proves she still can sing as before! I felt the concert was rather short even though it was 80 minutes long. I mean I wanted more! She could have sung more songs such as "Without You", "Emotions", "Love Takes Time", etc. It was great to see Boyz II Men and Mariah sing "One Sweet Day" together. Of course, Trey Lorenz, one of the back vocals of the concert, sings his part for "I'll Be There". Mariah, keep up the good work with your beautiful smile!
The concert itself deserves five stars but I have to take one off because of the clumsy production. Spotligting is not very accurate but most of all, camera work is, I would say, horrible! Firstly, you will see too much of audience shots in the latter part of the show. For example, when MC sings "Hero", almost half of the shots are done with audience. You will even remember some people in the audience after watching because of repetitious and long-staying zoom-ins. Who cares about audience that much? Who wants to miss the main performer instead? Secondly, there are many cases that a camera misses the hightlight of a song and the performer failing enhancing the mood of the song. For example, when MC sings with such high notes covering her ear (you know what I mean), the camera suddenly zoom out and shows the whole arena or people instead. In addition, there are some blurry/unfocused and pointless shots. So, I'm sure that the concert would have been much more enjoyable with a better production.
Technically, PQ is 4.5/5 (VC-1 coding) IMO and AQ is 5/5 with uncompressed PCM 5.1/2.0. Extras are good: I liked the Karaoke especially.

The Beyoncé Experience - Live (2007) Review

The Beyoncé Experience - Live (2007)

Once you have seen Beyonce' Knowles live in concert, you will have a new respect for her. I had the pleasure of attending "The Beyonce' Experience" when it came to Washington, DC, and since then, I have adored her even more. When Destiny's Child released their first single, "No, No, No", it was crystal clear that Beyonce' was not only the star of the group, but also the hardest working one and the one with the most potential. With this concert on DVD, she proves my stated point. Throughout the duration of the show, Beyonce' didn't miss a beat, nor did she forget a lyric, nor did I see much sweat! She made it look so easy, and that impressed me a great deal.
When she first steps onto the stage, she asks the crowd if they are ready to be entertained. She, without a doubt, entertains for each minute of the two hours that she is performing! It's not easy to keep 20,000 people entertained for two hours, but somehow Beyonce' manages to accomplish this task.
Beyonce' performs all of her biggest hits and also gives us many doses of Destiny's Child's music. "Get Me Bodied" stands out in my mind as one of the best performances because there was non-stop choreography, very creative outfits (she had on black and yellow, hence, her nickname is Bee), and it was simply an energetic performance. "Crazy in Love", "Me, Myself and I", and "Speechless" are other highlights. I loved the simplicity of the "Flaws and All" performance. She sounded great, but she incorporated so many emotions with just one song, and it was very touching to watch (how can she make herself cry on cue, on stage??) "Irreplaceable" is another highlight. Not because she did anything fancy or gaudy, because she didn't, but I love the crowd participation she included, and I liked how she pointed random individuals out from the audience (I.E., she said, "I see you over there with that Beyonce' poster!")
In all honesty, I could go on and on boasting about this DVD, but to really bring into fruition what I am saying, you will have to see it. This concert is recommended by me, no questions. "Are you ready to be entertained?"

This was a great documentary of the Classic album "Resonable Doubt. You are not a true Jay-Z have until you have this DVD. What makes this so cool, is hearing Jay explain the process of making this incredible album with each producer. This album is arguably the greatest hip hop album of all-time. He explains the struggles, experiences of his drug dealing days in his music. I love this album because it's so real, in a sense just hearing Reasonble Doubt is almost like hearing a movie on audio. This a great watch, and it's something every real hip hop head should include in their collection. ....A MUST HAVE!

Jay-Z has been one of the most influential figures in Black American music since the mid-nineties. Initially as a performer racking up an incredibly successful string of hit singles and albums and latterly as an executive, having taken on the presidency of Def Jam Records in 2004. "Reasonable Doubt" was his debut album and is still considered by many to be his finest achievement. A much harder hitting and edgy record than his later more polished and pop orientated releases it announced to the world that a new rap star had arrived. This latest addition to the Classic Albums series sees Jay-Z take us back through the whole creative process behind this stunning first release."Classic Albums: Reasonable Doubt" will be airing on VH-1 Classic this fall.Features excerpts from: Can't Knock The Hustle (with Mary J Blige) Can I Live Dead Presidents II D'Evils Ain't No Nigga (with Foxy Brown) Coming Of Age Bring It On Regrets & more...Bonus Features Additional interviews and demonstrations not included in the broadcast version. Original videos for "Ain't No Nigga" (with Foxy Brown) and "Can't Knock The Hustle" (with Mary J Blige).
