(More customer reviews)I've been a fan of Justin Timberlake's ever since he came out in *NSYNC so of course I'm gonna say that this DVD rocks my socks. For one Justin looks real good and his solo debut was just awesome and I think he's a real talented young man (with Michael Jackson comparisons aside)and this collection shows just how talented he is.
You of course get all of Justin Timberlake's videos (except "I'm Lovin' It-which is featured on the Justin Timberlake Live In London DVD, just to let you know). The clubbin' "Like I Love You", to controversial and haunting "Cry Me A River", to the disco lights of "Rock Your Body" and then to the hole in the wall club of the funky "Senorita", they are all here. As an added bonus you get to see the makings of "Like I Love You" and "Rock Your Body" as well as MTV stuff-the Album Launch, TRL performances and Vid Awards performance and the Brit Awards performance. It's awesome the first time around then great after the tenth time of watching it due to the fact of them drilling "Like I Love You" and "Cry Me A River" into your brain by adding wayyy too many performances of these songs. I think the DVD would have been mucho better if they had added in some backstage looks at how Justin recorded this album (more than what is shown in Launch) and him going through the motions of his tour and maybe how they made "Cry Me A River" and "Senorita" music vids or have Justin talking about his life, music, whatever between each video break or something.
Well, you can't ask for too much! Still a very enjoyable DVD and well worth the money, especially if you are a BIG time Justin fan. This is for the Justin Junkie!

Whitney Houston Live (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)This dvd is a concert that aired on HBO. It was truly a great concert and one of Whitney Houston's finest moments. However, this dvd does NOT do it justice. The footage is from the early 90s and it did not hold up very well. It is unclear and nearly impossible to see at times. The producers of the video could have done a much better job of preserving and presenting the video. It is also much shorter than the original concert. Songs have been completely cut out and Whitney's interaction with the audience has been significantly edited. It seems as though this video was put together so quickly that the folks in charge of its production did not take the time and care necessary to create a quality product.

Celine Dion - All the Way... A Decade of Song & Video (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)"Oh My God!" I couldn't stop watching this DVD once I got it. Celine is so spectacular, and this DVD sure does show it! I love all the old videos, "new" videos, and live performances! Who says teenage guys can't LOVE Celine?
Here's my run-down:
1. Program start: This is just a short "into" clip. About 30 seconds long. Short and sweet.
2. The Power of Love (Music Video):
I may not be "your lady," but I bet after seeing this video, and hearing this song, every guy wants to be Celine's "man." It's so amazing. She hits the high notes perfectly.
3. If You Asked Me To (Music Video):
This may be an old vid, but it's so great! Celine looks so beautiful, and the video made me feel as if I were in a dream. Great job!
4. Misled (Music Video):
Okay, maybe the video was kid of..."so, so." The song has kind of like a "funky" beat to it. Not what we're used to from Celine. But it's something different, and we don't here it all the time. And if it was a single, then it's gotta be good, right? Nice job.
5. Beauty and the Beast (duet with Terry Bradford) [LIVE]:
If it's a Disney song, then ya know it's great! Trust me, this is the song you want to be stuck in your head all day. It's live and from the "Falling Into You" concert, in Memphis. Not bad Celine, not bad at all.
6. Because You Loved Me [LIVE]:
No, it's not the music video. But it's just as good, (maybe even a little better). I LOVE this song. It's so pure. Celine... you know what we want. Thanks.
7. It's All Coming Back To Me Now [Single Version] (Music Video):
Now here's a side of Celine we don't see often. WOW! This video blew me away. So amazing! I loved it from the start till the end. Uh... what can ya say? It's G-R-E-A-T!
8. Love Can Move Mountains (Music Video):
I know everyone loves this song! It just makes you want to get up and dance, and just have a good time. And when you look beyond the fun, it has an outstanding message! Great song, fun video, positive message... what more can you ask for?
9. To Love You More (feat. Taro Hakase) [LIVE]:
A hit not only in Japan, but all over the world! Celine knows what she's doing! This song is amazing, and even features a very special guest! This is a wonderful performance!
10. My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme from Titanic) (Music Video):
Okay! Now you cannot get any bigger than Titanic! Oh, yes you can, just have a hit show in Las Vegas! This video is AMAZING! Celine is sooo beautiful in her dress, and I know everyone's head this song, and I know everyone LOVES it! No matter you are!
11. I'm Your Angel (duet with R. Kelly) (Music Video):
WOW! This is such a pure song, and is just so inspirational! Celine, doing her best as always, and a side of R. Kelly we hardly ever see. Just so heavenly!
12. That's the Way It Is (Music Video):
Seems almost impossible! Celine is so down-to-earth in this video. It's like she's one of us! We all love her, and we'll love her even more after this! I promise!
13. If Walls Could Talk (Music Video):
This is one of my most favorite video of ALL TIME! How can you pass this by! I cried when I saw this video! The setting is so calm and peaceful, Celine looks gorgeous, and song is so soothing! Bravo Celine, bravo!
14. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (From the "All The Way... A Decade of Song" CBS-TV Special) [LIVE]:
This is one of the songs that you'll wish you could only do, but Celine is the only one who can do it. Such a dreamy song. It just fades you away, and lets you know that your tribulations are for just a day. You'll just fade into this lovely balled.
15. All the Way (duet with Frank Sinatra) [LIVE]:
Ahhh... wonderful. A love song that can't get any better. And only Celine can sing it like Frank Sinatra. This is one of the BEST songs of all time... All the way.
16. Then You Look at Me (Music Video):
I love it! Celine performs this song, in a way that no other could, or can ever reach! This video is so cool! It has a mystery about it, the kind that makes me get chills every time I see it! Oh gosh! Just spectacular!
17. I Want You to Need Me (Music Video):
This is such a beautiful music video! Is that beach in there real? It looks gorgeous, and... If only I could have been there with Celine. I just adore this video!
18. Live For The One I Love (Music Video):
This video is sort of like in a dream, that you never want to wake up from. It just absolutely takes you away to a land where everything may just be perfect. This video... better than a dream.
BONUS VIDEO: It's All Coming Back to Me Now (stereo mix - long version) (Music Video):
Same review as #7, only longer, with added scene.
Over all, this DVD is as PERFECT as it get! Surly a prize you won't regret winning.

Paul McCartney - Live in Red Square (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)One of the great things about Macca is he's never forgotten where he came from, and inspite of the wealth and success, he knows what's important. That comes through in spades on this disc which is both a great concert film and a rather touching documentary on a number of social and political notions.
It isn't meant to be heavy going, and because of that, when you see the footage of the kids in the orphanage (the raison d'etre for the concert appearance), when you hear former Soviet military ministers saying they learned English from Beatles records, when you see even Putin crack the KGB veneer to acknowledge that something about the message of love that 4 guys from Liverpool stood for warmed even the iciest of hearts. McCartney seems to know that there was something in the Russian psyche that needed respect from his as well and he is also the consummate diplomat and a generous and genuine musical ambassador. After touring the Hermitage with Putin, he acknowledges how touched he is that the kids in the orphanage who perform for him are dressed in their Sunday best. That's a sensibility that only a working class kid would understand and recognize as important. He also gets quite a giggle out of the Russian police chasing him out of Red Square on his bicycle (it's a no-no), not caring who the heck he is. The laugh is on Mac and he enjoys it, sheepishly.
As for the Concert in Red Square and in St Petersburg, the shows are incredible. A number of talking heads relate their tales of securing Beatles records as they grew up, and it's rather touching. You get the picture that they got the message far more profoundly than those in the west. So as the band hits the stage, the rush in the crowd is exhilarating. Even Putin gets rockin during "Back in the USSR", and his KGB body guards are having a ball.
McCartney's observations during "Fool On A Hill" clearly indicate he knows and understands what this music means to people and he is determined to give them a great show and have fun. And he succeeds brilliantly. During "Let it Be" and "Hey Jude" the crowd is at times on the verge of tears, particularly one old fella. The robust singing along during "Jude" could only have happened in Russia where there is such enormous pride in polyphonic singing. Macca is stunned by how strongly the crowd joins in.
The experience was joyful and humbling. Having met Gorbachev, Putin and so many of the people of Russia, McCartney reflects on what it would be like to be able to tell his parents about this trip. It's the voice of a son who was raised to do the right thing and who wants his parents to know he upheld the family name. There is something about that that cuts across all nationalities and ethnicities. He's the genuine article, and this is a film with great music and a profound message.

Old School Soul Party Live (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Old School Soul Party is another one in a series of the T. J. Lubinsky productions that seek to capture R&B greats in live performances for posterity. This release blends mostly very recent shows with shows from earlier years and does it wonderfully. The picture quality is great. As for the sound I found the 2 channel Prologic 2 preferable to the 5.1 surround. Regardless, the DVD is excellent overall with a very generous offering of songs that could easily have been issued as vol. 1 and 2 releases.

Aerosmith - You Gotta Move (Amaray Case) (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)Why why why why why do the clowns who edit these "live" concert dvd's continually insist on ruining the music by overlapping interviews and other bull sessions into the songs themselves? Didn't Sony learn their lesson after Black Sabbath's "Last Supper" editing disaster? Am I wrong to think that the job of a concert video should be to give the illusion of actually being at the event? What fan in actual attendance would sit still if during every song lead in, Steve Tyler turned down the volume and talked about his life experiences? I don't know about you, but it would annoy the hell out of me! It's a shame because You Gotta Move could have been a great dvd. The sound quality of the music is excellent! And I was very impressed with the track selection. Sure one could argue that there are several key Aerosmith tunes missing from the set list. But to play every hit from Aerosmth's huge library, the dvd would have to be 12 hours in length. What makes this dvd fall flat on its face though is the totally inexcusable editing job. There's hardly a track on the entire dvd that isn't partly interrupted by the band members chatting about things we already knew and that could have easily been added in the bonus section. If that's not annoying enough, the camera angles change each and every second or two throughout the show. It's kinda like watching while riding a spinning merry-go-round? You never really see anything but a blur as it passes by. As for all the fan shots (almost half the dvd), I have to wonder if there were any plain looking/non model types/small chested people in the crowd at all? You wouldn't know it by where the camera men had their cameras pointed all night? lol Anyway, being a die hard Aerosmith fan aside, i'm very disappointed that they dropped the ball with their first official live dvd. It would have been so cool to sit back and enjoy an awesome show without feeling the need to throw a hammer at the tv. 2 stars for the good music that WASN'T interrupted with gab and for the bonus audio cd that's music, music, and nothing but the music! As for the rest..arrrgggghhhhhhhh!

Motley Crue: Carnival of Sins (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)Motley Crue's new "Carnival of Sins-Live" DVD is the best Motley Crue DVD there is--by far.
This is a two disc DVD,and while it is not perfect,it is really good and solid. It opens up with a very funny and short cartoon on how Motley Crue got back together,and once you have seen the cartoon for the show/Motley Crue's getting back together and going on a tour(which Motley used on all of their shows;I saw The Crue at their concert at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis)the concert on this DVD opens up with a great version of "Shout At The Devil '97"(note that the back of the DVD specifies it as the original SATD,but if you are a die hard Motley fan,you will notice that The Crue are playing Shout '97 at the beginning of this concert that is on this DVD,NOT the original Shout). This whole concert finds Motley Crue playing (mostly)their hits/fan favorites from the 80's("Girls,Girls,Girls","Dr. Feelgood","Live Wire","Ten Seconds To Love","Home Sweet Home",etc.)with the addition of two Motley songs from the 90's("Primal Scream" and half of the ballad "Glitter"),their two new original songs off of their "Red,White,and Crue" anthology album("If I Die Tommorow" and "Sick Love Song")as well as two cover songs("Helter Skelter" and "Anarchy In The U.K."). Note the fact that this concert was made as a film,it looks like a concert that is a movie,and while I would have just preferred a concert,the whole movie/concert concept into one theme was a really good idea that works here. The camera does switch back from the band to the audience too often at the beginning of this concert/film but gets better at focusing on the band towards the end of the DVD,and the live performances of the songs on here are really good(Motley Crue were being honest when they said that they still do have energy left in them)! Nikki Sixx's bass solo and Tommy Lee's drum solo are quite impressive,and not only are Motley Crue able to keep this DVD entertaining by not only playing most of their best material live and doing a great job at it,the midget onstage(who is sort of a mini Vince Neil)is hillarious and is a good supplement to the whole concert/film. It is also pretty cool to see aerialists on stage accompanying "The World's Most Infamous Rock Band"(especially during the live performances of "Girls,Girls,Girls" and "Ten Seconds To Love"). This whole concert/film is pretty cool,but the highlights for me would have to be 1)Nikki Sixx dressed like a mad scientist while he is doing his bass solo,2)Tommy Lee's drum solo and his "fan cam"(wait until you see that),and 3)seeing the guys in Motley Crue dressed as military guys while they perform "Helter Skelter" and "Anarachy In The U.K."(which are the last two songs they performed for the concert that is on this DVD).
There are a lot of bonus feautures on disc two of this DVD,which made me really happy. There is a documentary on Motley Crue's 2005 tour,a behind the scenes look at when Tommy Lee brings his "fan cam" onstage(I'd tell you about it,but it is something that will seem more funny if you buy this DVD and see it for yourself),a short,hillarious,cartoon movie called "Meet & Greet'Disaster!The Movie'Blow It Up" on Motley Crue,and there are three new music videos here. These videos are the time lapse view video for "On With The Show","If I Die Tommorow",and the "clean" video for "Sick Love Song". All of these videos are very cool(especially the time lapse video for "On With The Show",which is both very cool and very creative)and while I am a little dissaspointed that BOTH the clean AND the unclean video for "Sick Love Song" are NOT on this DVD(I am glad to have the SLS video here;it is just there was an unclean video for SLS that you can see very far back on www.motley.com;my point is that it would have helped Crue fans out to watch both the unclean and the clean video for SLS whenever they wanted to instead of going very far back on the Motley Crue website to see the unclean SLS video if they wanted to see it)but other than that,I am not complaining. I like getting to have loads of bonus feautures on disc two of this DVD and getting to see Vince,Nikki,Tommy,and Mick Mars all talk about this whole tour/DVD is really cool(Motley Crue are really the best band there is when it comes to leaving their fans happy). This DVD also has a nice poster that has pictures of Motley Crue from the COS tour accompanying it,which is nice to have here,and despite it's little flaws,this DVD is very awesome overall. Michael Jackson: Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)I actually went to a live Dangerous Concert at Roundhay Park, Leeds, England. The concert was amazing and one of the most important moments of my life. Michael was sensational, not only does he move, sing and dance like no one else but he transforms the whole arena with his incredible stage presence. You are literally seeing one of the best performers on stage ever, if not the best!
It would be difficult to capture this brilliance on DVD, not to mention the atmosphere but I would say the Bucharest Dangerous concert DVD comes very close. I have watched it numerous times and even now it brings out all kinds of emotions. The quality is excellent and you get to see the magnificence of Michael Jackson plus the astonishing reactions from the crowd so you can literally feel the atmosphere.

This concert is quite simply a point in history, a time when a musician could bring out pure emotion in a crowd through excellence in music and dance.
Buy this, you won't see a better artist in concert and I guarantee anyone who takes a chance on this will be a fan. I became one after the Dangerous Concert in Leeds and I've been to many more concerts since. He never fails to please. Highly recommended!

Pure 80's: The DVD (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)If MTV was smart, and they used to be, along with funny, relevant, and entertaining (they even played music videos all the time!) It was on all day in my house, and you could always count on the VJs passing along some wacky facts, or artists dropping by who could actually speak coherently. Anyway, MTV could make their massive video catalog available to the public. You could browse online and choose the videos you wanted, pay $2-$3 each and MTV would either create a custom DVD for you and send it out, or you could download them and make your own DVDs. I would gladly pay to have several DVDs that contained only the videos I wanted. And there are about 100 I want, just off the top of my head.
As it is, I am happy to watch my old and fading copies made back then and occasionally catch an old great on VH1 Classic, rather than have someone else pick out 10 videos, 4 of which I may want, the rest I don't. This one did nothing for me. Luckily it was a gift. I never would've bought it for myself.
