The DVD is great for kids who love the show, but I'm disappointed they couldn't offer more episodes on it. The same titled Australian version DVD has more than double the episodes this US version has! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that more DVDs become available in the US before we tire of watching these same limited episodes over and over!

Pirate Treasure
A great selection from this wonderful, colorful, musical Nelvana serie that will soon be featuring more new episodes on Nick Jr. In this absolutely classic episode, the Backyardigans pretend to be pirates, and as everyone knows, pirates say "arr." Like most of the episodes of the show --- this one features four of the characters, and this is one where they're split up into two groups. Captains Uniqua and Austin hunt for treasure, followed closely by Captains Pablo and Tyrone. Both pirate teams have half a map --- but with only half each, how will either find the treasure?"Blue's Clues"
100th Episode Celebration
A great choice. This celebration episode consists in large part of clips from past episodes, but it's well put together. It also features a special visit from Steve. He's wearing a top-hat in this episode --- nobody knew it at the time, but as recently announced in the behind-the-scenes special, one of the main reasons for him leaving the show was that he was losing his hair. This special was a perfect way to have him back on for a bit, and the hat, of course, appeared perfectly normal!"LazyTown"
Prince Stingy
This was one of the few episodes of the program I hadn't seen, so I was pleased that it was on this DVD. When Stingy fantasizes about being a prince, Robbie Rotten concocts a scheme to make his dream come true. But Robbie's rotten plan comes with some strings attached --- such as making up rules to get rid of that "blue elf" --- *FOREVER!!!*"Little Bill"
Racing Time / All Tied Up
If there's any one reason to get this DVD, this is it. "Little Bill" no longer airs on Nick Jr. and with CBS no longer airing Nick Jr. programming starting September 2006, "Little Bill" may very well be off the airwaves. So it's wonderful to see this on the DVD. In the first story, Little Bill learns how to get to school on time. And in the second, he gets help tying his shoes.Also included on this DVD are "Dora the Explorer" and "Max and Ruby." I don't think much of either show, but I know they're pretty popular. The "Dora" episode is "¡Rapido, Tico!" and "Max & Ruby" features three stories --- "Max Cleans Up / Max's Cuckoo Clock / Ruby's Jewelry Box."

(More customer reviews)Tigger, Pooh, Darby and the others are on the case in the first film based on Disney's new "My Friends Tigger & Pooh" CGI-animated series. In this film, everyone is getting ready excitedly for Christmas. They all have things prepared and everyone has various Christmas wishes. Among others, Rabbit would really like to learn how Santa delivers his gifts, and Eeyore wants to fly! Roo and Lumpy (the cute little heffalump introduced in "Pooh's Heffalump Movie") are sent out to play and discover a reindeer named Holly trapped in a bush. They call for the help of the Super Sleuths, who free her, but this only the beginning of the adventure. Roo and Lumpy also find a magic bag, which turns out to be Santa's. Without it, he can't deliver his gifts and will have to cancel Christmas. So now, the Super Sleuths and our other friends from the Wood are on their way to their North Pole. Holly comes along with them, as she's a reindeer-trainee for Santa. The journey is tough, and at times, it seems almost hopeless. But with Christmas on the line, giving up isn't an option!
"Pooh's Super Sleuth Christmas Movie" is great fun for all fans of this bright, exciting new series. They are plenty of great lines and laughs, some thoughtful and heart-felt moments, and three fun and catchy new songs. All in all, it makes for another sweet new holiday film.
Technically, this DVD release is wonderful. The color is bright and vibrant and the film is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic ("Family-Friendly") widescreen. The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1, and there are captions and subtitles available, as well as French and Spanish language tracks. This DVD also includes Disney's "Fast Play" feature, which starts the movie automatically if the menu isn't chosen. Previews include the upcoming "101 Dalmatians" Platinum Edition DVD release and "Little Einsteins: Race for Space," among others.
"Super Sleuth Christmas Movie" comes with two great bonus features. The best of all is an entire bonus episode from the television series, "Symphony for a Rabbit / Tigger Goes Snowflakey." This complete episode of the show has only aired in the U.K. as of the release of this DVD. In the first story, Rabbit needs help with a concert when he breaks his orchestra machine. In the second, Tigger searches for two snowflakes that are exactly alike. The DVD also includes a game, the "100 Acre Wood Downhill Game." This game is reasonably decent. It allows you to select from one of four courses and then collect a series of presents. After this comes a second part, in which the gifts must be matched to who in the Hundred Acre Wood they go to. The gifts should be reasonably easy matches, and Darby's comments are helpful as well.
If you or your kids are already fans of "My Friends Tigger & Pooh," this movie is a sure bet. If not, give it a try! You may just discover something new, fresh and fun.

Disney's Sing Along Songs - Sing a Song With Pooh Bear and Piglet Too (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)"Sing a Song With Pooh Bear and Piglet Too" is a wonderful DVD featuring Pooh songs from all the back towards the beginning up to the still somewhat recent "Piglet's Big Movie." You get classic songs such as "Harvest What You Grow" and "Heffalumps and Woozles" as well as newer songs like "Sing Ho For the Life of A Bear (Expotition March)" and "With a Few Good Friends." These later songs, as well as some others are performed in part or whole by Carly Simon.
This isn't just some cobbled together sing-along thing. They actually went to the trouble of putting together a real story. Pooh is on a search for his song --- a special song to call his own. He searches all over the Hundred Acre Wood and discovers some of his friends' own special songs. Eventually, he ends up finding "My Song" --- a wonderful number and a great new song.
One odd thing about this here is that repeated lyrics don't show up on-screen, at least not in the normal sing-along font. Fortunatley, close-captioning and/or subtitles are available to fill in.
Overall, I think this is really great. Not only did they manage to pull up some really classic stuff that I'd never heard before, the more recent songs are great as well. A wonderful compilation of classic and new animation and voice talent. Piglet is featured here --- John Fiedler --- may he rest in peace.
This DVD also has some neat special features. The most interesting one is sing-along versions of all the songs except the Carly Simon ones in Spanish and, oddly enough, Italian. I say oddly because Italian isn't an option you would normally see. But it's quite nice to hear. The "Winnie the Pooh" theme song is also included with these, even though the English version on this DVD is a Carly Simon version. The Spanish and Italian version is in the classic style.
The "Word Time" vocabulary activity is so clever! The idea of it is that the viewer is given a word by the narrator and then they select the object on screen that matches it. But the real fun is in selecting items that don't match --- there's some extremely witty and fun commentary from the characters if you do this.
There's also a musical note activity in which short tunes are played on a xylophone and then the player tries to play it back. I don't think this one is too good --- it plays too quickly and you only get two chances --- worse, it's confusing because you end up forgetting where it was you messed up.As for the quality --- I don't see any decline here. The quality is the same as ever, it's just different. Things change, things grow and Pooh is certainly bigger than ever. Sing ho for this DVD!Great for kids (though not those who are too young to really understand or follow it yet) or any Pooh fan.

American Idol - The Worst of Seasons 1-4 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)For me the best part of American Idol is watching the horrible audtions at the start of each season. These poor souls actually believe they have what it takes to make it to the big time. The sad part is they REALLY believe they can make it, sometimes they have family members who encourage them. Some say that these have to be fakes, people can't be this bad. Well they can be, they can't be that good of actors!!
This DVD has some of the best worst performances from the first four seasons. You get William Hung, you get that guy singing "Like A Virgin", you get my personal favorite, Mary Roach. You've got to credit these people for at least having the guts to get up there and try.
Now for the part that's not so great about this set. Many of the songs have been cut, I would guess because they couldn't get the rights to them. By cutting out the songs, you don't really get to see why they are being so harshly judged. So the judges come off as being rude for no real reason.
Aside from that, this DVD is great fun. But again how many of us would have the guts to get up there ourselves??

Wonder Pets - Save the Beetles (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)The Wonder Pets! get groovy in the newest release, "Save the Beetles!" Yes, the Wonder Pets are called up on the ol' telly with a request for help from four members of a famous rock band, the Beetles, whose yellow submarine has gotten tangled up in kelp. As they journey to rescue them, they'll dive straight into Beatlemania pop-culture (and reference numerous Beatles song titles and lyrics along the way!) It's a fun journey, with two of the Beetles being voiced by... well, no, not the Beatles themselves, but by members of the cast of the stage play "Beatlemania!"
In the second half, "Three Wonder Pets and a Baby!," the Wonder Pets find themselves with a baby on their hands -- a baby pig! This one is really cute and could quickly become a fan favorite. It may be even more fun than "Save the Beetles!" There are many cute baby-related things, including various pictures of actual babies (my guess is children of the show staff.)
None of the other episodes released on this DVD are new either. Still, they're good content. One of them is "Save the Chameleon / Save the Platypus." "Save the Platypus" is particularly good, because it shows how a friend and team-member (Linny) can maintain a level-head when two others (Tuck and Ming-Ming) are arguing. There's also "Save the Duckling / Save the Kitten" and "Save the Sheep / Save the Hermit Crab" (music from both of these stories is featured on the "Wonder Pets!" album release.)
It's a shame that this DVD continues the tradition of not really including much in the way of special feature content. The only real special feature is the "Kelp!" music video -- which is just an easier way to access content that is already part of the episode. I was really hoping for behind-the-scenes stuff on "Save the Beetles!" -- "The Backyardigans," after all, gave us a behind-the-scenes look at "International Superspy," complete with scenes of Cyndi Lauper recording a song for it.

Charlie and Lola, Vol. 2 (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)"Charlie and Lola" is a delightful series based on books by Lauren Child. It is seen on Playhouse Disney in the United States and on CBeebies in Great Britain.
In this series, Charlie has a little sister named Lola who is small and very funny. Charlie often helps Lola with her problems and though they have some sibling rivalry at times, they are usually pretty nice with each other. Lola often has an unusual way of seeing things, or can be a bit stubborn, but Charlie helps her to look at things in a new way or to try new things.
This DVD features six stories from the first season of the show. That's on less than Vol. 1, but it's still a great release. The stories are "I Am Not Sleepy and Will Not Go to Bed" (based on a book), "But That is My Book" (also based on a book), "Boo! Made You Jump!," "I Want to Play Music Too," "The Most Wonderfullest Picnic in the Whole Wide World" and "You Won't Like This Present as Much as I Do!"
The animation is unique and fun to look at. The main theme and background music are all very catchy. The British-accented dialogue and phrases also add a lot to the series."Charlie and Lola" airs full-screen on Playhouse Disney, but it is presented in widescreen on the DVD. Close-captioning is not offered --- there are subtitles instead. The DVD also includes a few bonuses / surprises --- watch for them to pop up while both on the main and episode-selection menus.
