(More customer reviews)I bought this DVD expecting to finally get to see Ed Edd n Eddy's "Boo Haw Haw". Be warned: It is NOT on this disc! There are some fine episodes on here, but that one is not present. Here's the actual list (from the disc in front of me as I type):

Billy & Mandy: "the Bubble with Billy"
Ed, Edd n Eddy: "Don't Rain on My Ed"

I was disappointed that "Boo Haw Haw" was not on the disc, being an obvious choice, but "Don't Rain on My Ed" is one of my favorite Eds episodes, so I don't feel completely let down. I'm not sure what that episode has to do with Halloween, but a good one nonetheless.
The disc is starkly devoid of extras, apart from CN's usual promos for upcoming material.
There are good episodes on this disc, and what is there is good quality, but given the absence of the most obvious episode choices and the lack of any extra material, I can't rate this disc higher than a 3. It's great if you really like these episodes, otherwise just watch them on TV.

(More customer reviews)I saw this movie a while back on the Disney Channel. After hearing some mixed reviews about it, some being good; some being bad, I decided to give it a try because it was about an all-girl band named "The Cheetah Girls" and I basically love anything about music.
When I watched it, I was amazed.
This movie contains friendship as well as lots and lots of awesome, cool songs!
I *HIGHLY* recommend this for people who loves movies about friendship and music. It's one of the best Disney movies I've ever seen.

My 4 kids (9, 5, 4, and 1) all watch it and love it. Cute songs, great graphics, and I just hope this company produces some more holiday shows!

The CGI effects are the absolute worst, worst, WORST you will EVER, EVER, EVER see and the Mask character only appears twice for like 5 minutes in the whole film. Oh, please stay away! Stay well away from this hideous monstrosity! I'm sorry I can't say more but I have no words to aptly describe this worthless, pointless movie.

(More customer reviews)I thought this movie was good although I agree that Kimberly was missed. I too was disappointed.. But the new girl (Sara) did alright--> big shoes to fill don't you think? As far as Debbie goes she could get as much screen time as she wants.. She obviously did not want anymore than what she had. Remember she is really up in age now.. I know I am 50.. I have watched her movies since I was a little girl.. I very much missed her too in this movie.. I was more disappointed that "Sophie" did not a part in this but I was glad "Dillon" did.. All in all I liked it.. I hope to see more of Halloweentown with Young Sophie...??

(More customer reviews)I have grown up watching this movie every Halloween since age 5. Honestly, I've probably watched this video more than any other video I own and I love it EVERY SINGLE TIME--never a dull moment! If you love Schulz, Snoopy, the Peanuts gang and/or Halloween you simply must own this! It deserves the highest possible rating; five stars doesn't do it justice. It has perfect editing, illustrations, music, voices, script--EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS PERFECT! I've done over 70 reviews and I do believe this is the first time I have EVER used the word perfect in one of them!
My favorite scenes are the Snoopy ones, especially the World War 1 Flying Ace (flying doghouse scene with great colors) and the piano scene at the Halloween party where Snoopy dances and marches to the happy song and then changes moods and cries to the sad song..repeating twice. I laugh out loud til I cry every single time! YA GOTTA LOVE SNOOPY! He is so intelligent but sensitive too! What a dog!
My second favorite character in this video is Sally--the way she pitches a fit in the pumpkin patch and says "I was robbed!" then threatens to sue Linus--so hiliarious also! Again it makes me laugh til I cry!
Lucy the bossy and sometimes downright grouchy (to put it mildly) shows a soft side the way she wakes up in the middle of the night, goes to check on Linus and finds his bed empty, then gets dressed and goes to get him freezing in the pumpkin patch and puts him to bed without a word. The ending with Charlie Brown and Linus is endearing as well.
Each character is so unique and entertaining! JUST GET THIS VIDEO! TRULY A TIMELESS CLASSIC! YOU'LL LOVE IT--TRUST ME!

The guys and gals in this video do a great job of showing some basic, easy-to-create, creative prop ideas for a Haunted House. And, they look like they are having a great time doing it too, which after, is what it's all about, right? I only gave it four stars because I wish it could have been longer!

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005) Review

My daughter and I are huge Winnie the Pooh fans, and we had been looking forward to the release of Pooh's Heffalump Halloween ever since we saw the first Heffalump movie. Unlike that movie, which was charming and endearing, this one is ponderous, uninteresting, and contrived. The previews show only the good scenes and leave out the sleep-inducing flashback to a previous Halloween where Piglet was scared half to death. And the movie ends with a yawn; the theme of unconditional friendship never really came out like it did in the original Heffalump movie. And where was Owl? He has been MIA ever since Piglet's Big Movie in 2003. I give this movie two stars only because my daughter and I love the characters so much.

(More customer reviews)I love when the History Channel begins airing its stable of paranormal shows heavily around Halloween. This is a great bargain for five DVDs. "Vampire Secrets" is the excellent 2-hour program from 2006 (100 minutes), while the other four are hour long shows (50 minutes). This is worth it just for "Vampire Secrets" and "The Haunted History of Halloween." Either one of these two DVDs purchased separately cost as much as this entire set. The others in this series are quite good too...they include slightly older shows from the mid 90's about poltergeists, hauntings, etc. Some of which I don't remember seeing before. For the price, it is well worth it!

Dressed in his vampirey best, Mickey emcees a collection of frightfully funny, Halloween-themed Disney shorts to the dining Disney clientele. Little does he know that the Disney villains, led by the nefarious Jafar, are plotting to take over the "House of Mouse" before the evening is over! Will Mickey be able to dig up enough Disney magic to stop them?
"Mickey's House of Villains" is a Halloween extravaganza in the spirit of Disney's classic holiday short-subject compilations such as the much revered "A Disney Halloween Treat." Featuring a collection of classic and all new Disney short cartoons that make up the bulk of this direct-to-video program inspired by the "House of Mouse" animated television series, "Mickey's House of Villains" is a must have for the Disney and Halloween fanatic. Now, many have complained that the packaging and title are misleading, but not so for those familiar with the "House of Mouse" animated series format. The popular Disney animated series has always been a show that brings all of Disney's beloved characters together under the same roof, that of Mickey's "House of Mouse" nightclub, for fine dining and entertainment in the form of Disney animated shorts. This is the second direct-to-video "feature" based on the series (the first one being "Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse"), and one of many Disney direct-to-videos to raise complaints about false advertising as an "all new" feature. So, I say again, this is a compilation of Disney short cartoons with a Halloween theme. Yes, there's all new footage, and yes, that footage has a "Disney Villains vs. Mickey" plot, but it only takes place AROUND the shorts and at the end. There IS a catchy, all new song performed by the villains as they take over the club (about two cartoons away from the big finale), and there is also the Mickey/Villains face off in the end, though it is just a quick, humorous battle. The wraparound animation is nicely done and fun to watch. Offhand, I can't think of anything that was inappropriate in this program, and I'm a hardcore Disney fanatic. I mean, you should know going in that you're buying a Halloween themed DVD. Anyway, this is a fantastic compilation for Halloween and does a good job filling in for the lack of a "Disney Halloween Treat" DVD release. There are no clips from animated features here, but you do get 8 fantastic, high-quality Disney animated shorts, both classic and new! And, yes, though the new shorts were made for the slightly pre-House of Mouse television series, "Mickey MouseWorks," they ARE high quality and very entertaining. In fact, one of the best cartoons in the collection is such a short, Goofy's "How to Haunt a House." Here is a run through of the shorts offered within the "House of Mouse" themed program:
"Trick or Treat" (CLASSIC): In this, one of my favorite classic cartoons, Donald Duck is serving out tricks instead of treats when his nephews come by on Halloween night, and Witch Hazel offers to help everyone get their just desserts. A Halloween MUST WATCH.
"Mickey's Mechanical House" (NEW): In this all new short, narrated storybook style by a rhyming John Cleese, Mickey decides to purchase a new house and goes for a very futuristic model. Things go a little haywire though, once he damages his robot servant.
"How to Haunt a House" (NEW): In one of the most entertaining shorts on the disc, Goofy is immediately dispatched in order to illustrate "How to Haunt a House" in the tradition of some of Goofy's most hilarious classic shorts. He runs into a little trouble by choosing skeptical Donald as his victim though.
"Lonesome Ghosts" (CLASSIC): In this Halloween tradition for the Disney fan, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy prove to be the original ghostbusters, as they take on a gang of bored spirits in a creaky old house in the snow.
"Dance of the Goofys" (NEW): With the dialogue and lyric free style of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," this is a short set to music in which Goofy portrays a fairy in a line-up of identical fairies that close-up flowers for the night. When their king is captured by an insect tormenting child, it's up to the goofiest of the Goofy fairies to save him!
"Donald Duck and the Gorilla" (CLASSIC): Another one Disney fans should be quite familiar with around the Halloween season, this short features Ajax the gorilla who has escaped and is on the loose. Donald and the nephews hear the radio warning, and the kids are scared to death. Donald takes the opportunity to play some pranks on the boys. Little does he know that the ducks aren't the only ones running wild in the house that night...
"Donald's Halloween Scare" (NEW): This new short is a real treat, as it more specifically features Halloween (like "Trick or Treat" did) and gives us more of Donald's incessant pranking on Huey, Louie, and Dewey! The joke is on him though, when he is mistaken for a slasher-movie style loonatic on the loose!
"Hansel and Gretel" (NEW): Our final short is another "Fantasia" style toon set to music. It's a charming rendition of Hansel and Gretel starring no less than Mickey and Minnie Mouse in the title roles!
The DVD extras aren't anything to howl about. There is a villain themed trivia game, a clip video that can be watched with or without music, and some pictures of Disney Villains in the menu that lead to more movie clips. Better than all that is the inclusion of a "Lilo and Stitch" trailer featuring original animation of Ariel the Little Mermaid. However, with all these wonderful shorts and the highly entertaining wraparound material, it's beyond me why anyone wouldn't be thrilled to own this Disney DVD! While I can understand folks being upset when they were expecting an animated feature about Mickey going up against all the Disney Villains, all I can say is, stop blind-buying DVDs if you are prone to being displeased. Always check the facts with direct-to-video! For what it is, the Halloween-themed "Mickey's House of Villains" DVD deserves the full five stars, not to mention annual viewings at the very least!

The Little Vampire (2000) Review

A very winning cast, great location, superb kids' story to work with, good production make for some campy scariness for kids with entertainment for mom and dad as well. Charming little movie that appeals to the kid in all of us.The predicament of the cows really did make me laugh out loud.
The acting by one and all was excellent, especially Richard E. Grant as the head of the vampire family. He brought a non-threatening, yet nerve wracking (well, for kids, anyway) presence to the movie. His charming powers over Mrs. Thompson were hysterical, and the entire cast did very well with this movie.
One for the kids that mom and dad will enjoy sitting through, which is a rarity anymore, except for the likes of Shrek.
Oh, and I can't omit Rollo Weeks, as The Little Vampire himself. He was so charming, so perfectly nailed the role of Rudolph. As well as the role for arguably the cutest kid in movies, Jonathan Lipnicki, as Tony Thompson. The crush Anna had on him was acted out adorably by Anna Popplewell, as well. There was just great acting all around in The Little Vampire.
A job well done by all involved. Entertaining, campy, scary enough for the little ones without freaking them out even slightly, and still entertaining for the adults.

Monster House (Widescreen Edition) (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I just saw this film today (after missing out on a sold out sneak preview last weekend) and the increased level of expectation was met with one of the most rewarding moviegoing experiences I've had in the last five years. Monster House gives us one doozy of a spooky antagonist, a decrepit domicile of living malice that gobbles errant toys and passerby with equal ingenuity and viciousness.
The house is plain old MEAN, and for really small children perhaps a little too scary to take in a gigantic room filled with strangers and darkness. But for those of us who are too grown up for a nighlight this is perfect, creepy entertainment.
The same motion capture technology used to create The Polar Express (a film which I have still yet to see) is a very interesting and appropriate choice for this film, where the only truly fantastic element is the demented house that will not suffer trespassers. It works so well because the eerie realism that depicts the characters is so starkly contrasted with the insanity that ultimately drives the Monster House to be, well, so monstrous.
Now I fully expected to be entertained by the antics of the house, but I didn't expect there to be much of a story. Again I was pleasantly surprised by what I think is a script that I believe is just as worthy of an Oscar nomination as the script for The Incredibles was. There is, beneath the floorboards of this film, more heart than horror. A tale of love, retribution, acceptance, forgiveness, and ultimately letting go.
Monster House is, beyond a doubt, one of the coolest Horror movies for kids ever made. A Halloween tradition in the making that dares to answer that age old question: Can a house be haunted?
The answer is a resounding yes with a disquieting post script.
Whatever is haunted may also be hungry!

Even for a 12-year old, D.J. Walters has a particularly overactive imagination. He is convinced that his haggard and crabby neighbor Horace Nebbercracker, who terrorizes all the neighborhood kids, is responsible for Mrs. Nebbercracker's mysterious disappearance. Any toy that touches Nebbercracker's property, promptly disappears, swallowed up by the cavernous house in which Horace lives. D.J. has seen it with his own eyes! The set is remastered and each special is in their own DVD case and comes housed in a cardboard box with art work.
What makes this set different from the 2000 release of this set is on "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." This set includes an episode called "It's Magic, Charlie Brown," which replaces the bonus episode called "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" on the 2000 release of ITGP,CB holiday set.
And this set includes all new featurettes on the making of each holiday classic. That alone is worth buying this set. And you also get a bonus music CD containing six song sampler from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" music soundtrack.
If that's not enough, each DVD also contains a ITunes code to download two-additional songs from each of the soundtracks. Very nice!

They're adults now, obviously, but it's nice to finally see some of the kids who were behind the voices. BTW, Peppermint Patty was done by a boy! LOL! Great cast!

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS

*** new featurette *** A Christmas Miracle: The Making of A Charlie Brown Christmas--approx. 15:50- minutes--discussion from Mendelson, Melendez et al, about the making of this Christmas classic and how it almost never came to be. And you'll find out why the bible passage was included in the script, because people told creator Charles Schulz that it would be blasphemous and degrading to use such sacred words in a cartoon! I guess he showed them, LOL! CBS thought that ACBC would bomb and that they would never re-run it again. How wrong they were!
*** bonus music cd *** A Charlie Brown Christmas Six Song Sampler--songs include: My Little Drum, Linus And Lucy, Hark, The Herald Angels Sing, Christmas Is Coming, Fur Elise, and Greensleeves.
***i-tunes* code *** "Hark, The Hearald Angels Sing" and "Christmas Time Is Here" (vocal) from A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack CD.
So, I guess aside from the featurettes and the different bonus episode on ITGP,CB, the remastering and 6-track music cd, this set is pretty much like the one from 2000. If you don't have that set, then I would recommend this set! Or if you're a big Peanuts fan like me, you'll probably get this set and sell the old one. The holidays wouldn't be the same without these Peanuts specials.

The i-Tunes codes seem to work only for the songs on the "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" DVD insert. But if you email customer support at i-Tunes, they'll give you song credits to purchase the additional i-Tune songs from "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtracks.

(More customer reviews)WHEN GOOD GHOULS GO BAD is a made for television movie, based upon a R.L. Stine story that first aired a few years ago on the Fox channel. The movie is narrated by and stars Christopher Lloyd as the patron of his small town. He has everyone call him Uncle Fred, including his own son and grandson and is a town legend. Uncle Fred used to own the chocolate factory that was the town's bread and butter. However, after a tragic accident involving a baking kiln that Uncle Fred had donated to the local high school, he shut the factory down and the town has been struggling ever since. However, with the accident at the school there also came a curse, that the town was to never celebrate Halloween again or else the young man who was baked alive would come back from the grave to destroy the town. Twenty years pass and Uncle Fred's son and grandson move back to town, wanting to celebrate Halloween. However, the townspeople won't have it. Then strange events start to happen and things go from strange to just plain bizarre.
WHEN GOOD GHOULS GO BAD is a good family Halloween movie to watch together. There isn't anything too scary and much of what could be frightening is tapered with a good sense of humor. The story is easy to follow and the acting is fairly well done for a made for tv flick. Christopher Lloyd is always a joy to watch and if for no other reason, this movie is worth watching for his performance. There aren't a whole lot of deep messages in the movie, though it does have a lot to say about the importance of family and staying connected (in more ways than one). Happy Halloween viewing.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Mickey's Treat (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Just received this DVD today and like Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt and Mickey Saves Santa, this one is great and my 2 year old son loves it. There are two other episodes on the DVD that we have seen on Playhouse Disney. There is the Dr. Daisy episode where Daisy tries to earn her pretend dr. sticker and there is the Magician Goofy episode where the gang helps Goofy practice his magic tricks for the magic show. We've seen these several times before but my son still loves to watch them. The Halloween episode is cute. I just wish they would release more! If your little one is a Mickey Mouse lover then he/she will love this one as well, there is no doubt!!
