Hamtaro - Hamtaro and the Ham-Hams (Vol. 1) (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought my first Hamtaro DVD as a present for a friend who has a sweet tooth for cute little animals, and then got a copy to satisfy my own curiosity as an anime fan (plus the DVD was on special). I must say I enjoyed what I saw.
First of all, it IS cute, but not absolutely disgustingly cute - it's just a visual style that you quickly get used to.
Second, even though it is technically a "kids' show", it's not exactly mindless. Just as in more "mature" anime, there are story threads that continue through the series, the characters (while being stereotypes) have some complexity in their relationships, and, thanks to the normal human characters and good background art, there is a sense that the show takes place in (a nice part of) the real world, rather than some airy-fairy cartoon utopia.
Third, visually this show is superior to any US children's cartoon show I've seen recently, especially in the directing (i.e. frame composition & editing) and the painted backgrounds. And, finally, while I would have liked the option of Japanese language and subtitles, I think this DVD is that rare thing - a pretty good dub of a Japanese anime.
The great thing about Hamtaro is that, although it's for kids, it's not as "dumbed down" as some shows, which means that adults (parents and, er, *ahem* others) can enjoy it too, and parents don't have to worry about their kids being treated like morons.
The downside: with only three episodes per disc, you only get an hour for your money. Also, due to some quirk with the sound mixing, your ears may suffer from some fatigue after half an hour of Ham-Ham adventuring.

The Blue Elephant (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)My wife bought this movie after seeing an ad on tv and thinking my 2 yr old son would like the cute little blue elephant. And he does. The animation is good and there are plenty of different characters although the story follows just one of them for 95% of the movie. I sat down and watched this all the way through only once with my son, as he's at the age where he can only handle 20 minutes of story line at a time (not helped by the fact all his tv shows are about 10 to 20 minutes an episode).
But once we got into the third act, things I thought got a little disturbing. There are a lot of war scenes towards the end, and throughout the whole story there are a lot of fights, teasing, slightly creepy images of red eyed monstrous elephants (the animation makes them look more like demons than elephants), and I basically felt uncomfortable with my two year old staring at it. I also didn't like the message about war being a necessary thing in society (actually I was quite shocked when they said that in a kid's movie supposedly about a cute blue elephant).
The bottom line is there's nothing about the cover of the DVD and the ads that depict what the movie is actually like. I'm not saying it isn't an enjoyable movie, but it might not be what you're expecting, especially after the first 5 minutes are all cute and cuddly and then it turns into a slightly scary film about war and death. I would watch it first as a parent before letting your child view it to gauge if it's something you feel comfortable letting your child watch.

Beyblade - Let It Rip (Vol. 1) (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)I dont know what people find it wrong with this show. But personally... I love it! I love it! I love it! And this is a fair warning, this review kinda covers the whole first season to which this particular DVD is just the first.
Sure it maybe about spinning tops. But c'mon, in game gimmick animes, cards and electronic geegaws are so mainstream, they became boring. Atleast for me. Beyblade brings a nice new spin on game anime, pardon the pun.
I love the characters! For me, I can see the great divercity in all of the characters, and I have found some characters who show up a little later (not in this DVD, but later in the series, which I have watched in whole) plainly hilarious! Who wouldn't find Max's antics even a little funny?
The plot may have it's loop holes, but what anime doesn't? I dont want to go too in depth about the plot in fear of spoiling it for you. But the plot is a bit more than spinning tops and tournaments, and in the the end of the first season it does get a little dark and somewhat disturbing. I dare anyone here to go over a poisonous snake pit on monkey bars. (The end of the season will explain that one)
Kids in the family will LOVE this. But it may not be exactly for the very young viewers (no one younger than 9 or 8), as it does get a little dark at times.
If you're over 9 and maybe seen the dub, you dont know what you're missing. The dub cut out all the good stuff to be honest. And I'm proud to say that I'm glad my 12 year old cousin got me into this series.
It's a well-worth item for pre-teens, and maybe even for family viewing. And I have a feeling girls will love this one just as much as boys. Though maybe for different reasons.

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005) Review

My daughter and I are huge Winnie the Pooh fans, and we had been looking forward to the release of Pooh's Heffalump Halloween ever since we saw the first Heffalump movie. Unlike that movie, which was charming and endearing, this one is ponderous, uninteresting, and contrived. The previews show only the good scenes and leave out the sleep-inducing flashback to a previous Halloween where Piglet was scared half to death. And the movie ends with a yawn; the theme of unconditional friendship never really came out like it did in the original Heffalump movie. And where was Owl? He has been MIA ever since Piglet's Big Movie in 2003. I give this movie two stars only because my daughter and I love the characters so much.

The Powerpuff Girls - The Movie (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)I am forty-years old and have been a PpG fan since day one back in November of 1998. I LOVE THE PPG MOVIE! Some people do not understand that this is the prequel to the TV series, so of course it will not have all the villains in the movie. Craig McCracken wanted to balance out the film where fans of the show, and people who have never seen the PpG, can enjoy it. The movie is just like the TV series.
I am happy to see that Craig did not make any improvements to the characters as other films do that go from TV to the big screen. He kept the characters the same as they are on the show. The animation is a little better.
The movie makes references to such films "Planet of the Apes," "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes," "The Wizard OF Oz," and "King Kong."
My favorite scene is where the girls are playing tag in Townsville. The girls are having a ball playing tag around Townsville. They do not realize how rough they are playing and in the process, they are destroying the town.
This film makes you laugh while other animated shows take themselves too seriously. The PpG reminds me of the Cartoons I used to watch when I was a kid. Cartoons like Atom Ant, The Beatles Cartoons, Spider-Man, Top Cat, the Impossibles, and the campy 1966 Batman TV series.
It is not only the animation that makes the movie great; it is also the talents of the voiceover actors that bring the characters to life. E.G. Daily, Tara Strong, Cathy Cavadini, and the rest of the cast make these characters laughable, loveable, and believable. Everyone has done an excellent job on this movie.
I hope Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers decide not to get rid of the cast of this fine and unique series. The show will lose many fans if CN and WB do decide to get a new cast. The cast was almost replaced before the voices were recorded for the movie. CN and WB did not want to pay the cast all the money that the cast were supposed to get for the TV series, the movie, and the PpG merchandise. I am happy to hear that things worked out for the film.
I was not disappointed with the PpG movie. I love the show more now after seeing the movie. I plan to see it again. I cannot wait of this movie on DVD.
If you only see on animated movie this year, see the Powerpuff Girls Movie. If you are not a fan or have never seen the PPG, you will be come a fan.

(More customer reviews)It's Halloween Night, and the House of Mouse is hoppin', as usual. There do seem to be more villains in the audience than normal, however, but the show goes on as always! Dressed in his vampirey best, Mickey emcees a collection of frightfully funny, Halloween-themed Disney shorts to the dining Disney clientele. Little does he know that the Disney villains, led by the nefarious Jafar, are plotting to take over the "House of Mouse" before the evening is over! Will Mickey be able to dig up enough Disney magic to stop them?
"Mickey's House of Villains" is a Halloween extravaganza in the spirit of Disney's classic holiday short-subject compilations such as the much revered "A Disney Halloween Treat." Featuring a collection of classic and all new Disney short cartoons that make up the bulk of this direct-to-video program inspired by the "House of Mouse" animated television series, "Mickey's House of Villains" is a must have for the Disney and Halloween fanatic. Now, many have complained that the packaging and title are misleading, but not so for those familiar with the "House of Mouse" animated series format. The popular Disney animated series has always been a show that brings all of Disney's beloved characters together under the same roof, that of Mickey's "House of Mouse" nightclub, for fine dining and entertainment in the form of Disney animated shorts. This is the second direct-to-video "feature" based on the series (the first one being "Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse"), and one of many Disney direct-to-videos to raise complaints about false advertising as an "all new" feature. So, I say again, this is a compilation of Disney short cartoons with a Halloween theme. Yes, there's all new footage, and yes, that footage has a "Disney Villains vs. Mickey" plot, but it only takes place AROUND the shorts and at the end. There IS a catchy, all new song performed by the villains as they take over the club (about two cartoons away from the big finale), and there is also the Mickey/Villains face off in the end, though it is just a quick, humorous battle. The wraparound animation is nicely done and fun to watch. Offhand, I can't think of anything that was inappropriate in this program, and I'm a hardcore Disney fanatic. I mean, you should know going in that you're buying a Halloween themed DVD. Anyway, this is a fantastic compilation for Halloween and does a good job filling in for the lack of a "Disney Halloween Treat" DVD release. There are no clips from animated features here, but you do get 8 fantastic, high-quality Disney animated shorts, both classic and new! And, yes, though the new shorts were made for the slightly pre-House of Mouse television series, "Mickey MouseWorks," they ARE high quality and very entertaining. In fact, one of the best cartoons in the collection is such a short, Goofy's "How to Haunt a House." Here is a run through of the shorts offered within the "House of Mouse" themed program:
"Trick or Treat" (CLASSIC): In this, one of my favorite classic cartoons, Donald Duck is serving out tricks instead of treats when his nephews come by on Halloween night, and Witch Hazel offers to help everyone get their just desserts. A Halloween MUST WATCH.
"Mickey's Mechanical House" (NEW): In this all new short, narrated storybook style by a rhyming John Cleese, Mickey decides to purchase a new house and goes for a very futuristic model. Things go a little haywire though, once he damages his robot servant.
"How to Haunt a House" (NEW): In one of the most entertaining shorts on the disc, Goofy is immediately dispatched in order to illustrate "How to Haunt a House" in the tradition of some of Goofy's most hilarious classic shorts. He runs into a little trouble by choosing skeptical Donald as his victim though.
"Lonesome Ghosts" (CLASSIC): In this Halloween tradition for the Disney fan, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy prove to be the original ghostbusters, as they take on a gang of bored spirits in a creaky old house in the snow.
"Dance of the Goofys" (NEW): With the dialogue and lyric free style of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," this is a short set to music in which Goofy portrays a fairy in a line-up of identical fairies that close-up flowers for the night. When their king is captured by an insect tormenting child, it's up to the goofiest of the Goofy fairies to save him!
"Donald Duck and the Gorilla" (CLASSIC): Another one Disney fans should be quite familiar with around the Halloween season, this short features Ajax the gorilla who has escaped and is on the loose. Donald and the nephews hear the radio warning, and the kids are scared to death. Donald takes the opportunity to play some pranks on the boys. Little does he know that the ducks aren't the only ones running wild in the house that night...
"Donald's Halloween Scare" (NEW): This new short is a real treat, as it more specifically features Halloween (like "Trick or Treat" did) and gives us more of Donald's incessant pranking on Huey, Louie, and Dewey! The joke is on him though, when he is mistaken for a slasher-movie style loonatic on the loose!
"Hansel and Gretel" (NEW): Our final short is another "Fantasia" style toon set to music. It's a charming rendition of Hansel and Gretel starring no less than Mickey and Minnie Mouse in the title roles!
The DVD extras aren't anything to howl about. There is a villain themed trivia game, a clip video that can be watched with or without music, and some pictures of Disney Villains in the menu that lead to more movie clips. Better than all that is the inclusion of a "Lilo and Stitch" trailer featuring original animation of Ariel the Little Mermaid. However, with all these wonderful shorts and the highly entertaining wraparound material, it's beyond me why anyone wouldn't be thrilled to own this Disney DVD! While I can understand folks being upset when they were expecting an animated feature about Mickey going up against all the Disney Villains, all I can say is, stop blind-buying DVDs if you are prone to being displeased. Always check the facts with direct-to-video! For what it is, the Halloween-themed "Mickey's House of Villains" DVD deserves the full five stars, not to mention annual viewings at the very least!

(More customer reviews)"Bolt" really blew me away; this is the first time that I have seen a CGI film that shows a level of mastery that allows the visual artistry of the film to be the driver rather than the capabilities of the computer. The characters have the typical CGI look--extremely well rendered, with the 3D type look you'd expect. However, the backgrounds have the look of a traditional painting. Art Director Paul Felix should be commended for this mixing of styles which works out extremely well. The overall lighting, colors, and style of this film are its hallmark in my opinion. The story is really not anything that will blow you away; in fact, it is somewhat predictable; however, with the characterizations, action sequences, visual quality, and the vocal talents behind the characters, "Bolt" becomes a must-see.
In a nutshell: Bolt (John Travolta) is a super-hero canine...at least in his own mind and to TV viewers everywhere. In order to protect his performance and keep it "real," TV execs have sheltered Bolt and he believes that what he accomplishes on his show is all done on his own, not through special effects. Bolt is deeply devoted to his human costar, Penny, a little girl (Miley Cyrus), who is also deeply devoted to him as well. Mistakenly thinking that Penny is in danger at the hands of the TV villains, Bolt escapes his trailer and finds himself in the real world, where his super powers are not so super. He accidentally gets shipped to NYC, and thinks that the pink styrofoam peanuts clinging to his fur are the cause of his loss of power. With the help of a hamster named Rhino (Mark Walton) and a street-tough kitten, Mittens (Susie Essman, who is FANTASTIC!), Bolt must find his way back to Hollywood and his beloved Penny. It is a tale of growth, maturity, and love; again, nothing really earth-shattering, but in this recycled tale that we have seen in other movies, it is done so well that you forgive the studio for its predictability.
BONUS MATERIAL:
"Super Rhino" (4:27)--Rhino the hamster gets the spotlight in this animated short focusing on him. Cute!
Deleted Scenes: 2 deleted scenes ("Dog Fight in Vegas" and "River Sequence") with introductions by directors Chris Williams and Byron Howard. They are both shown in storyboard form and neither is really missed from the final picture. They were not used mainly because they wanted to heighten the emotional level of Bolt finding out about his lack of powers.
"In Session with John Travolta & Miley Cyrus" (:59)--This one is like a blip on the radar...very short! Interviews with both stars as they get ready to sing the duet from the movie "I Thought I Lost You." They are truly a mutual admiration society, with Travolta comparing Cyrus to the appeal of Olivia Newton John in "Grease."
"I Thought I Lost You" Music Video--Interspersed with footage of Travolta & Cyrus and clips from the film.
Bolt's Be-Awesome Mission--High def video game is somewhat more challenging and fun than the typical Disney video game extra. Begin at level 1, The Burning Warehouse and see how far you can progress! Takes a little bit of mastering of the controls on the remote.
"A New Breed of Directors: A Filmmakers' Journey" (4:34)-- The two directors discuss what it was like to make "Bolt," and how John Lasseter was a great mentor and guide in the process. Fun to see the gigantic plastic hamster ball that the animators played in to diffuse tensions around the office. Obviously great camaraderie was apparent with the team, as they also stopped shaving in unison during the last 9-10 weeks of work on the film.
"Act, Speak! The Voices of Bolt" (9:47)--Always interesting to see how each actor has to record their lines independently, making the process of playing off the other characters next to impossible. Really takes talent to make it work. Travolta began in voicework (commercials), so this was a return to his roots. He comments that "You can only contribute your voice...the most exciting this was seeing the marriage with the animation." Mark Walton, a Disney animation team member, did the scratch voice of Rhino, and was so perfect that he was cast in the final movie. The actual video of him finding this news out is touching to watch as you see his unbridled enthusiasm. Susie Essman ("Curb Your Enthusiasm"), the voice of Mittens, was excited to show her method acting skills, but was told by the Disney team to be herself. They wanted a tough kitten with a New York accent. As Susie says, "It's just me." Disappointingly enough, she never met Travolta during her recording sessions, even though practically every scene in the movie involves her character interacting with Travolta's.
Bolt Art Galleries: Character Design, Color Script, Storyboard Art, and Visual Development. Sure is fantastic to see this great pieces of art filling up a widescreen high-def TV. The quality is really amazing, and sure beats the old days of DVD when art gallery images were in low-res and fairly tiny.
"Creating the World of Bolt" (6:45): The amazing work of art director Paul Felix and lighting director Adolph Lusinsky is detailed here. They actually visited the many locations across the country to make sure that they were able to capture the light of each unique scenic setting. Felix wanted the painterly looks of traditionally animated Disney films, and he definitely succeeds. Interesting to watch this featurette.
Also included:
Digital Copy disc and a DVD of the feature with all the bonus features except the art gallery and video game.
SPECS:
Video: 1080p High Def/1.78:1. Disney is to be commended for having high-def extras as well. Whereas most studios go to the usual crappy video quality, Disney consistently upgrades even the extras. Especially enjoyable for the video game.
Audio: English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio (48 kHz/24-bit) and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital. I actually had to turn the volume down a bit, as this movie really gives the speakers a work-out. Sound comes out of all your speakers, and with a number of action sequences, the subwoofer really rumbles! Extremely impressive! Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish.

Orangutan Island - Season 1 (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)I love monkeys and apes, I'll be the first to admit. But bias aside, this is, I think, one of the BEST shows that was on TV. And the whole family can enjoy it!
Orangutans, one of our closest living relatives, are critically endangered. Deforestation and poaching are bringing their numbers dangerously close to a point of no return. When a parent dies, usually the young orangutan would follow shortly after. However, the classmates of Nyaru Mentang have been rescued and are raised by humans in hopes of releasing them into the wild. This is a long process, as the dependency period of a baby orang on it's mother is the longest in the mammalian family, aside from humans.
The show is always good for a laugh, and I find it always makes me smile, no matter my mood going into it. Most of it is pretty happy, though there are sad parts of the episodes, and some of the stories about the orangutans are heartbreaking. Take Bonita for instance - poachers shot her mother out of a tree, and she clung to her mother's hair on the way down. After mother and child hit the ground, the poachers came and literally ripped her away from her dead mother, most likely to be sold into a life of solitary confinement in a cramped cage.
Within a couple episodes you'll get to know the orangutans, and learn to appreciate and understand their complex social structure, and their quirks. Each is very distinctive and has a readily discernible personality.
Watching them, one can't help but feel like you are looking at people. They think, they plan, they ponder, they trick, they scheme, they cry, they laugh, they love (two romances start up during season 1!!). These intelligent and gentle creatures will easily capture your heart, and you'll find that each episode ends much too quickly.

(More customer reviews)I've had one and only one tiny complaint with THE GILMORE GIRLS on DVD: it has come out a bit too slow. While the industry standard has become releasing the previous season's DVD set shortly before or just after the start of the forthcoming season, THE GILMORE GIRLS even after the release of Season Four will be a solid season behind. As someone who would like to evangelize new viewers to the show, I would love to be able to direct friends to all previous seasons so that they can be completely caught up for the current one. Still, I'm delighted that all four seasons are now available, and moreover at a very decent price. The key is that the basic list price is low for a four-season set, allowing resellers like Amazon to make the sell price after discount very low indeed.
What makes this such a great show? Like so many shows of recent years, it is the writing. In film studies, the ultimate responsibility for the quality of a movie is usually laid at the feet of the director. Even when given a quality script, a director is able to sculpt and mold it either through rewriting or reinterpreting, or changing the tone through the way it is filmed. But in television the writer working in conjunction with the executive producers (who provide the overall vision) is the most important contributor. If you have bad scripts, no how brilliant the director or how talented the cast, you have a bad show. Luckily, THE GILMORE GIRLS has great writers, a large number of the scripts written either by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino. If you've ever seen her interviewed, you know who serves as the basis for Lorelai Gilmore, the central character on the show: she's merely the self-projection of Amy Sherman.
So what makes the writing so good on the show? First and foremost, it contains the wittiest, sharpest, and most frenetically paced dialogue on TV. For sheer quantity of words it is probably the most loquacious show in the history of TV. Luckily, because the words are good, that is a good thing. It is often said of the show that whereas most one-hour shows shoot with a 45-50 page script, THE GILMORE GIRLS usually shoots with a 75-80 page script. If you love great talk, this is your dream show. While virtually all other shows at least have segments where you get to watch characters do things, all the characters on this show do is talk. And they all talk brilliantly. In interviews Sherman has acknowledged that her models for the conversation on the show were comedies from the 1930s and 1940s such as the Thin Man series and Howard Hawks's HIS GIRL FRIDAY. All the actors talk fast, and the words simply pour off the screen, and much of the dialogue is witty, funny, and intelligent. The only show whose talk I enjoyed more was BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. It is the only I show currently watch just to see the characters talk to one another.
The second major reason the show is such a joy to watch is the first rate cast, most of all the wonderful Lauren Graham, who manages to imbue Lorelai Gilmore with such charm. The show revolves around the lives of a mother and daughter, both named Lorelai, though the daughter is called for some reason I no longer recall Rory. Lorelai became pregnant when she was 16, had Rory, and left her parents when they tried to control both her and the way her daughter was to be raised. She rushed immediately to the Independence Inn (its name is surely not accidental) in Stars Hollow, thirty minutes south of Hartford, Connecticut, and asked for any job she could get, taking a job as a maid, and over the years working her way up to be the manager. Her daughter Rory is more like her best friend than child, and in many ways they are complementary opposites, Lorelai ebullient and loquacious and unbookish (though obviously intelligent); Rory reserved and quieter (though a match for her mother's machine gun conversational style) and a passionate reader. Apart from Lorelai's parents, most of the rest of the cast consists of residents of Stars Hollow, such as Luke, the owner of the diner that provides Lorelai with the gallons of coffee she requires to survive and ongoing potential object of romance; Sookie, the chef at the inn, Lorelai's best friend, and future business partner; Miss Patty, grand dame and aging bon vivant who runs the local dance studio; Taylor, the head of the town council, local business, and fundamental pain in everyone's collective butts; Kirk, a minor presence in the show at first, but eventually major oddity of Stars Hollow and the apparent holder of every job in town; Rory's best friend Lain, the daughter of a rigidly devout Seventh Day Adventist and Korean owner of an antique store (Lain hides the finest collection of alternative and pop music in town underneath the floor boards in her room); Dean, Rory's first boyfriend; and Paris, Rory's ultra driven and competitive classmate who starts off as foe but ends up her friend (or at close to a friend as Paris is capable of having). There are numerous plot lines, but these are merely excuses to have the various marvelous characters interact and provide occasions for them to talk to one another.
THE GILMORE GIRLS truly is a wonderful, unique show. Essentially a comedy, it never becomes in any sense a situation comedy; while dealing primarily with human relationships, it never, ever feels at all like a soap opera. And in an era where shows love to uncover the seedy underbelly of American life, the worst that happens in Stars Hollow is tame compared to what happens on any other show on TV. Well, at least until Season Five, but even then the worst isn't that bad.

Doris Day Today (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)In 1975 Doris Day completed her obligation to CBS Television by starring in a hugely popular one hour variety show. This beautifully produced special is rated five stars because Doris Day sings. That in itself warrants five stars.
Looking no more than 25 years old, Miss Day is in top-form and one can only regret that she didn't do more specials, or films, or recordings after this outing. Vocally she is superb!!!
The special generously mixes comic skits with musical interludes and utilizes Miss Day's guest stars, John Denver, Rich Little, Tim Conway and the dancing group, The Lockers, to good effect. While the comedy sketches are not especially side-splitting, Miss Day and Conway are amusing together.
John Denver is probably the most prominent guest on the show and he proves to be disarming. His chemistry with Miss Day is genuine and real and they run the gamut from "Follow Me", a Sunshine medley, "Exactly Like You" and a very cute series of song snippets that use the stars' real names and vintage tunes. Day and Denver look more like brother and sister.
The sequence with Rich Little imitating, flawlessly, several of Miss Day's on-screen co-stars is a great excuse for Day to sing bits of some of her most beloved hits including "Everybody Loves a Lover", "Teacher's Pet", "Secret Love" and the inevitable, "Whatever Will be, Will Be".
Finally it is Doris Day who makes the hour work. Her vocal rendering of "Day by Day" from the musical "Godspell" is pitch perfect. "The Way We Were" has NEVER been sung more beautifully than Miss Day's version.
Among the bonus features on this DVD release is Miss Day's appearance on the December, 1974 John Denver Special. She, Denver and George Gobel do a very funny skit that pokes good natured fun at Miss Day's on-screen image. Day and Denver sing bits of three songs from Day's early 50's musicals.
As a wonderful reminder of what a brilliant vocalist Doris Day is, this DVD release should be a must for everyone.

Joey - The Complete First Season (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)Despite the average ratings produced by the sitcom, "Joey" is a a surprisingly funny show. Matt LeBlanc is great in his reprisal role of Hollywood wanna-be Joey Tribbiani, and if you take the show on its own merits you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Don't make the mistake of comparing this show to the original "Friends" because it just doesn't stack up, and that kind of comparison is just unfair. The supporting cast doesn't measure up, and this show is about Joey, not an ensemble of six. However, if you're looking for a few cheap laughs or if Joey has always been your favorite "Friend" than be sure to pick up a copy of this show as soon as it hits the shelves. I know I will.
Oh and by the way, "How you doin?"
