(More customer reviews)I loved Nicole Sullivan in MAD TV and she made a perfect transition to "Rita Rocks". With my schedule (like Rita's, evidently), I didn't get to see all of the episodes, so I'm looking forward to watching the whole shebang again on the DVD set. Though sometimes predictable (like most sitcoms), the acting is never pretentious and everyone is a pleasure to watch. A great series to unwind with at the end of the day!

Nicole Sullivan ( MADtv ) stars as Rita Clemens, an overworked wife, mother, and former lead singer of a Bangles cover band who has traded in a life of jam sessions and rock clubs for carpools and PTA meetings. The New Adventures of Old Christine: The Complete First Season (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I was so excited to find out that the first season of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" is coming to DVD! This show has a terrific cast with terrific writing that make it a very enjoyable show to sit down and watch. I think what is so endearing about this show, especially the main character Christine, played brilliantly by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is that she tries so hard to be a normal, working mother. She is sending her son to a fancy private school while having to deal with the hilarious "Meanie Moms," who are rich snobs who look down on her for being a divorced, working woman, her ex-husband coming around with his new girlfriend, a young, sweet lady who also happens to be named Christine, and the fact that she herself does not have much in the way of what you'd call a love life. But instead of taking the usual approach of a lot of sitcoms where the characters have problems but then they are resolved within thirty minutes, we see Christine's failures. She tries so hard, and yet she manages to embarass herself, screw up, and/or put her foot in her mouth. That is what makes her endearing...she has very good intentions, but she can't always succeed, and so that makes it easy to relate to her. That is why I find the cover art so funny and so in character for her...only she could hop into her car and begin driving away without a care in the world only to have every single thing she needed to bring with her still on the roof of the car. So pick this one up, you won't be disappointed...it's a fresh sitcom with unique writing and I have no doubt that you'll not only enjoy this, but in some way, you just may be able to relate to it!

Frasier - The Complete Final Season (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)"Frasier" remains one of the most best-acted and literate shows to ever air on the small screen. With the pivotal cast of Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier"), David Hyde Pierce ("Niles"), Jane Leeves ("Daphne"), Peri Gilpin ("Roz"), John Mahoney ("Martin"), and the irreplaceable Moose and Onzo ("Eddie"), the show was never condescending to the audience, requiring that viewers step up to the plate to enjoy some of the wittiest repartee to be found in the history of television. Of course, the show had its share of truly funny sight gags but these never overshadowed the delicious dialog and, for that, the excellent writing staff received well-earned honors in the forms of its numerous Emmys and Golden Globes.
This eleventh and final season has to be considered one of its best, not only in resolving character issues but in overall humor. The writing staff and the cast were magnificent, dolling out consistently funny and poignant tales. When other shows resulted in "stunt casting" to boost ratings, "Frasier's" roster of guest performers were the best for the part and elevated the show to a level that others only wish they could attain. Patrick Stewart, Laura Linney, Aaron Eckhart, Julia Sweeney, Felicity Huffman, Penny Johnson, Jennifer Tilly, Laurie Metcalf, Estelle Parsons, and Rosie Perez were just some of the talented guest stars that popped into the life of the fictional Seattle radio psychologist.

And the show would not be complete without the return of recurring characters Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth), Kenny (Tom McGowan), Bebe (Harriet Sansom Evans), Simon (Anthony LaPaglia), Wendie Malick (Ronnie), Bulldog (Dan Butler), Gil (Edward Hibbert), and Frasier's son Frederick (Trevor Einhorn).
There is nary a bad show in the bunch and this is indeed a necessary purchase for those that enjoy comedy that is timeless, thought-provoking, and perfectly acted.
The bonus features are equally as well done, providing some closure to a character, that began on "Cheers", that became a television staple for twenty years.
"Dr. Frasier Crane" will be sorely missed!

Televisions #1 comedy celebrates five seasons of funny with big laughs and hilarious new storylines. Charlie (Charlie Sheen) tops the charts as kiddie-song sensation Charlie Waffles. (More customer reviews)It's good to see that Two and a Half Men - The Complete Fourth Season is coming out on DVD, for (in my personal opinion) it's the best and funniest sitcom series of this decade. As a single father, this viewer can find much to relate to... and laugh about.
For those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing this top-rated series on TV, it's about the lives of two brothers, one of the brother's son, and the many people, especially women, who surround them. When his wimpy younger brother Alan Harper (Jon Crier) becomes separated from his wife and moves out of their house, he has to move in with Charlie, his older brother (played by Charlie Sheen). Alan shares custody of his son Jake (Angus T. Jones), who was 10 when the series began and who stays with them part-time. The "half a man" in the title of this sitcom is in reference to the fact that Jake isn't an adult yet.
Charlie Harper is a successful bachelor with a house on Malibu Beach, a Mercedes in the garage and an easy way with women. His easygoing, often hedonistic single lifestyle is interrupted when his tightly-wound brother, Alan (a chiropractor), and Alan's son, Jake , move in with him. Alan's hung-up ex-wife Judith (Marin Hinkle) frequently makes matters worse, as does the brothers' narcissistic mother, Evelyn (Holland Taylor), whose wide-ranging sex life is a recurring gag throughout the series. The brothers' housekeeper Berta (Conchata Ferrell) is unapologetically sarcastic, and often has the best one-liners, trading insults with Charlie referring to Alan as "Zippy." Their household can't function without her.
There are a number of other series regulars, but in this viewer's opinion, Charlie's wacky neighbor and female stalker Rose (Melanie Lynskey) is one of the best. She has a habit of popping over Charlie's deck railing and sometimes enter his house at inopportune moments. It's alluded that she had a one night stand with Charlie shortly before the show started, which she believed to be more significant than he did. Rose's father Harvey is played by Martin Sheen, and in one episode he asks Charlie of his intentions with his daughter. At one point Harvey meets Charlie and Alan's mother and has an affair with her, and popping in and stalking her just like his daughter does with Charlie.
It should be said that this series and its actors have won a number of Emmy Awards and nominations. Those who are familiar with it can well understand why. This series is well worth it, and if you do like it, there are other seasons available:

And notice that they are all rated at 4+ stars by the reviewers here... my call is that they're all 5-stars. It's one of the best sitcom series... ever!

(More customer reviews)I'm so happy to see "Everybody Loves Raymond" continue its DVD releases with the hilarious eighth season! The thing I love about this season is that it proved that the show still had fire and still had something to say. Rather than growing tired, it continued to give us memorable and hysterical episodes. One of the reasons for this is because the family expanded: at the end of season 7, Robert and Amy married. Now, Amy has to adjust to being the latest Barone. In addition, the permanent addition into the extended family of Amy's hilariously conservative parents and her wacky brother (who all clash perfectly with the Barones we've all come to know and love).
Here is a brief rundown of the episodes you'll find in this package:
1. Fun With Debra-- Debra misses the days when she and Ray used to have "non-sexual fun" together, so she decides it is time for some fun quality-time, and what better place to have it than Ray's favorite place...the golf course??
2. Thank You Notes-- Robert and Amy return from their honeymoon, but the feelings of bliss do not last long as Amy has a confrontation with Marie over the thank-you notes from the wedding, and Debra views this as her opportunity to get Amy on her side and overthrow Marie.
3. Home From School-- When Michael is home from school for several days in a row, Ray tries to use tough love to get him to confess his true reason for wanting to miss class...and of course the rest of the family has their own opinions on what should be done.
4. Misery Loves Company-- Robert and Amy are celebrating three months of marriage...and decide it is an ample opportunity to offer marriage advice to Ray and Debra and Marie and Frank.
5. The Contractor-- Debra hires Ray's friend Gianni to replace the stove in their kitchen, but soon regrets it due to his laziness on the job. Meanwhile, Frank is upset that they picked Gianni for the home repair instead of him.
6. Peter on the Couch-- Amy invites her brother Peter to stay...and then he makes himself at home on the couch. Later, he returns home only to discover that his parents have decided they liked the idea of him being out of the house.
7. Liars-- Debra helps Ray to cover up a little fib he told his mother about why he didn't make a scheduled time with her, but it snowballs as other stuff comes up. All is fine and good, until Marie begins to catch the scent of their trail.
8. The Surprise Party-- When Debra's mother wants to throw her an "English-tea-party" themed surprise party, Ray goes along with the hopes that he won't have to do any of the work. But when Debra catches wind of the plans for a surprise party and requests that Ray make it Chinese-themed, he has to try and convince her mother to change the plans.
9. The Bird-- When the Barones and Macdougalls decide to spend Thanksgiving together, everything seems to be going fine until a bird crashes into the window and Pat decides it's best to put it out of its misery. The end result is a literal reenactment of the First Thanksgiving...the Indian Barones versus the Pilgrim Macdougalls.
10. Jazz Records-- Ray tries to make up the fact that when he was a kid he accidentally destroyed his father's beloved jazz records, only to find out that he might not have been the true culprit.
11. Debra at the Lodge-- Ray gets jealous when Debra takes a job helping Frank at the Lodge...and he becomes enraged when he realizes that the old men have been doing nothing but admiring his wife's physique.
12. Slave-- After accidentally leaving the twins home alone, Ray and Debra are so impressed with how Ally stepped in and helped that they start giving her more reponsibilities around the house, such as cooking and doing laundry...but Marie is concerned that Ally is being turned into a slave.
13. Whose Side Are You On?-- Ray is upset when he realizes that Debra has been making bets with the kids behind his back about the silly things he will do (i.e. "Will Daddy notice Mommy's new haircut?" or "Is Daddy zipped today?") and after he realizes Marie used to do the same thing with them, he tries to reconcile with his father.
14. Lateness-- Frustrated by how Debra always makes them late to social events, Ray leaves her behind when she is not ready on time for an awards dinner they were both looking forward to.
15. Party Dress-- Ray and Debra disagree over whether or not to buy an expensive dress for a fancy birthday party she wants to attend for one of her best friends, especially considering the dress would only be worn once. To make matters worse, the girl's mother throwing the party is none other than Ray's arch-nemesis...Peggy!
16. Security-- After Robert takes a part-time selling home alarm systems and is offered a full-time position, he contemplates leaving the police force. Unsure of what to do, he asks everyone in the family for their advice...with varying results.
17. The Ingrate-- Debra is hurt when Ray receives an honorary doctorate and thanks everyone except her in his acceptance speech. Ray claims it was an accident, but Debra is quick to point out past snubs that were all too deliberate.
18. Crazy Chin-- After Amy's parents point out Robert's strange habit of touching every bite of food to his chin, he goes on the defensive and tries to find out why he does it, with a shocking answer.
19. The Nice Talk-- During Easter weekend, the Barones and Macdougalls decide to work on a puzzle together. After everyone has gone to bed, Ray and Pat stay up working and talking, forming a new bond that makes other family members jealous when they find out about it later.
20. Blabbermouths-- When Ray finds out that Debra has been telling secrets about him to her girlfriends, he decides to get even with his brother and father. Insanity ensues, of course, when husbands and wives altogether find out what has been learned about them.
21. The Model-- Robert is "discovered" by a modeling agency and the family is excited for his new opportunity. When Robert and Ray discover that it was a scam, however, they must come up with a plan to keep the ladies in the dark about all the money Robert lost.
22. The Mentor-- When a young man visits who claims that Frank was his inspiration, Ray and Robert are in a state of disbelief that he could have inspired anyone...especially after the way they feel he raised them.
23. Golf For It-- Feeling guilty about opting to golf instead of helping Marie by building some bookshelves, they decide during their overnight wait in the car for a prime spot on the course that the next day, the stakes would be raised: the loser would get stuck taking care of Marie after Frank was gone.
This set will also include the usual commentary, bloopers and deleted scenes we have seen on the other ELR DVD sets. This will also include some kind of panel discussion. So pick up this set and add it to your DVD collections today!!!

Everybody Loves Raymond: The Series Finale (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)When I heard that the final episode of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND was being released so soon after it originally aired, I kept my fingers crossed that the Producers and those who are responsible for putting out these DVDs learned a lesson from the release of the FRIENDS finale, and would be sure to include the one-hour retrospect which aired immediately before the final show aired.
Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Once again, viewers are given the pilot episode and final episode together on one disc - no retrospect. Why is this? Most dedicated viewers who collect these DVDs already have the first season, which includes the pilot - why include this with the final episode? It makes no sense. And the special that Raymond produced had everything to do with the production and making of the final episode - wouldn't it have made sense to include this one-hour special, which included behind the scene footage showing how this final show finally got made??
I don't know about anyone else, but when I watch the final episode of one of my favorite shows, I like to go back afterwards and relive some of my favorite moments. These one-hour retrospects allow viewers to do this. You can revisit some of your favorite, classic moments, and recall why it is that this was one of your favorite TV shows.
I'm still hoping that when Season 10 of FRIENDS is released, it's "extras" include the one-hour retrospect which aired immediately before the final show, and now I hope that the same thing happens with the release of Season 9 of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. After all, these specials sum up why these shows are one of our favorites, and wrap up all of out favorite moments in one neat little package - don't they deserve to be watched over & over again, along with the final episode?
I give the DVD 2 stars for the missing retrospect and inclusion of the pilot epsiode, while the episode itself gets 4 stars - which averages out to a 3.

(More customer reviews)The seventh season of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND will always hold a special place in my heart because it is the first season I started seeing when the new episodes would air every Monday night on CBS. The first six seasons I saw via re-runs and the DVDs because I didn't get into the show until this season. Therefore, I am particularly excited to see this season being released on DVD. Here is a breakdown of the episodes that will be on this set:
1. The Cult-- Raymond and Robert go to extreme measures to try and solve the feud between Debra and Marie that began at the end of season six.
2. Counseling-- After getting an idea from their friends Linda and Bernie, Debra decides that she and Raymond need some marriage counseling.
3. Homework-- Frustrated by the amount of homework Ally gets (since he's the one stuck helping her with it), he confronts the teacher about it, who invites him to present his case in front of the school board.
4. Pet the Bunny-- As a challenge, Ray decides to write a eulogy for Frank, which helps to reveal a softer side of the tough guy.
5. Who Am I?-- Ray fears that something is wrong with him when he goes out for a night with his friends and tells Debra that something is wrong with him. Debra, who thinks Ray is finally "growing up," is shocked to learn he wants to join his father's lodge.
6. Robert Needs Money-- When Robert says he is strapped for cash, Ray and Debra give him a gift of $1000, only to be shocked to find out later that he is going to use the money for a Las Vegas vacation.
7. The Sigh-- Ray gives full control of their bathroom to Debra to give her more space, but quickly regrets it after teasing ensues from Robert and Frank.
8. The Annoying Kid-- While Debra is thrilled to have met a couple that she and Ray can be friends with, Ray is less than thrilled about their spoiled, annoying 8 year old son.
9. She's the One-- Robert thinks he has finally found "the One" girl, Angela, with whom he might be able to spend the rest of his life. However, trouble ensues when Ray notices her at their table eating a fly that she killed after dinner.
10. Marie's Vision-- Marie gets new glasses and with her better eyesight, she starts noticing and pointing out physical features on her family members that make them extremely sensitive.
11. The Thought That Counts-- Robert gives Ray an idea of what to get Debra for Christmas, but is upset when Ray takes all the credit for it.
12. Grandpa Steals-- Ally is frightened when she watches Frank samples some trail mix in the grocery store, despite the sign that forbids sampling, and yells at the salesman who confronts him to accuse him of stealing from the store.
13. Somebody Hates Raymond-- After his friend Andy lands a job with a famous sports radio talk show host, Ray is shocked to learn that this man does not want him as a guest on his show because he hates him.
14. Just a Formality-- Robert decides that he is finally ready to propose to his on-again-off-again girlfriend Amy, but when he asks her ultra-conservative religious parents for her hand, he is turned down. (A CLASSIC episode!!!!)
15. The Disciplinarian-- Tired of always being labeled as the bad guy with the twins, Debra makes Raymond force the twins the clean their room, and his failure to do so prompts a family discussion of what it means to discipline your children.
16. Sweet Charity-- Debra encourages Ray to do some charity work at the local hospital, but becomes upset when Ray becomes a hit with the patients and starts spending more time at the hospital than at home.
17. Meeting the Parents-- When Amy's parents arrive at her doorstep to talk her out of marrying Robert, they meet Frank and Marie. It's not long before the two sets of parents start disliking each other. (Another classic episode!)
18. The Plan-- When Robert is put in charge of the wedding invitations and consults Ray and Frank for help, they encourage him to do a bad job on purpose so that Amy won't make him do any more to help. Unfortunately, the bad invitation is the one that accidentally gets sent out.
19. Sleepover at Peggy's-- Ray takes Ally to a sleepover at a friend's house and is mortified when the mother Peggy, who is the same troop leader who beat him up in season six's episode "Cookies," pats his behind.
20. Who's Next-- After Marie suggests the idea when an elderly woman down the street passes away, who Marie had chosen for Frank in the event she died first, Ray and Debra pick replacement spouses for each other, but jealousy isn't far behind.
21. The Shower-- Debra throws a bridal shower for Amy, but Marie's interference makes her angry to the point of drinking too much. While waiting for a ride home from Ray, an officer carts her off to jail. Without a driver's liscence, Debra must rely on Marie for help.
22. Baggage-- Ray and Debra end up in a two-week standoff over who should move a suitcase that is sitting in the stairwell, prompting Marie and Frank to offer advice on how to resolve the situation based on their own experiences.
23. The Bachelor Party-- Ray throws a lame bachelor party for Robert, and is prompted by the ladies to throw him another one to make up for it.
24. Robert's Wedding (parts 1 and 2)-- Robert and Amy get married, but as is always typical with the Barone clan, things are never destined to go smoothly...including Marie standing up at the part where the priest says "If anyone can think of any reason why these two should not be joined, speak now or forever hold your peace."
I am thrilled over how consistent they have been with the Raymond releases. I think it's safe to say we'll have the complete series by summer 2007 next year. Buy season 7 and continue to enjoy this classic sitcom that truly serves as a microcosm for the modern American family. You won't regret it, I promise!

(Comedy Series) Standup comedian Ray Romano stars as Ray Barone, a successful sportswriter who deals with his brother and parents, who happen to live across the street. Finding the ticket and getting his money, Earl is convinced that karma has put him on this mission, much to the dismay of his brother Randy (Ethan Suplee), his ex-wife Joy(Jaime Pressley), and her new boyfriend Darnell the Crab Man(Eddie Steeples).
Since the airing of the pilot, both critics and audiences have been blown away by My Name is Earl. Besides a extremely talented cast whose comedic chops are perfectly timed, Earl has a solid cast of writers who create 22-minutes of laugh out loud comedy every week. Earl's guest stars in Season 1 rival only Scrubs, including Giovanni Ribisi, Johnny Galecki, Beau Bridges, Jon Favreau, Adam Goldberg, Christine Taylor, and Juliette Lewis.
Season 1 of My Name is Earl offered 24 solid episodes, including the pilot, and received the Director's Guild Award and the People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy, and was nominated for a half dozen other awards including 2 Golden Globes. This would be a 5-star show but it remains to be seen if the writers and producers can keep this level of energy up for several more seasons. As First Seasons go though, this is one of the best to come along since Scrubs.
The DVD set just released and it is jam packed with extras include 8 episode commentaries, a 15-minute mini-episode that incorporates the Family Guy into the show, deleted scenes from 6 episodes, some outtake reels that highlight the improvisational nature of Jason Lee, Jamie Pressly, and Ethan Supplee, and a Behind The Scenes look at the show. This is a solid and fun show, and it deserves a place in your collection. Highly Recommended.

30 Rock: Season One (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Bizarrely, NBC debuted two new series in 2006-2007 that were behind-the-scenes looks at fictional TV shows that bore astonishing resemblences to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Aaron Sorkin's STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, the more highly touted of the two, did set its fictional SNL on the West Coast, but never really caught on with critics or with many fans and was eventually cancelled. On the other hand, 30 ROCK was an immediate hit with critics and gradually built more and more of a fan base. Though the ratings were never especially strong, NBC has perhaps the best track record of any current network for sticking with quality shows and attempting to nurture a fan base (on any other network both 30 ROCK and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS would have been cancelled well before the end of the season). Hopefully more fans will discover this superb show and its long term future will be assured.
While the Sorkin series had very tenuous SNL credentials, 30 ROCK's are iron clad. It was created and produced by SNL veteran Tina Fey, who along with Gilda Radner is possibly the most gifted female performer the show has produced. Lorne Michaels serves as a producer, Tracy Morgan is one of the major stars on the show, and a long line of SNL performers appear as guest stars on the show. Rachel Dratch has appeared in so many episodes (albeit as a number of different characters, from Liz Taylor to a Cat Wrangler) that she could almost be considered a regular. It wouldn't be quite correct to call this a SNL spin off, but it comes as close as possible to being that without actually being one.
The show started off as very funny from the very beginning, but it evidenced one of the marks of a good show: it got better and better as it went along. While the writing and the jokes are sharp from the very beginning, the use of the characters got really good in the second half. One of the marks of a good show is that the second half of the debut season is better than the first half. And this one certainly did.
The ensemble cast is absolutely first rate, but three people really stand out. Tina Fey is not only the driving force behind the show, she is delightful as Liz Lemon, the head writer for THE GIRLIE SHOW, the fictional series they all work on. Alec Baldwin is shockingly good as Jack Donaghy, the NBC executive who oversees. He will be certain to get an Emmy nomination, something he will definitely deserve. But for me the funniest thing on the show is Tracy Morgan as an insane (literally) movie actor who joins the show. The overall atmosphere is one of surreal chaos.
I hope the show really takes off with fans this coming season. NBC's Thursday night line up of shows is perhaps the best group of really intelligent comic series ever. Back when they promoted "Must See TV" (which I never watched), they relied mainly on sit coms filmed in front of live audiences. But the current line up features filmed comedies that are smart, funny, and a hoot to watch. And for me they are really are, in contrast to the FRIENDS era, shows that I really feel I must watch.

It is such a funny funny show and I was so surprised that Charlie Sheen is as funny in this as he is. Charlie's brother Alan comes to stay with him (and brings along his son) when he gets a divorce.
You all know how funny this is and you don't need another reminder, so I'll just give you the run down of what's on these four discs.
1. PILOT - Deal Him In. Charlie's poker night with the boys includes a genuine boy - 10 year old Jake.
2. BIG FLAPPY BASTARDS. Talk about gull-ible. Seagulls invade the house when Jake won't stop feeding the feathered freeloaders.
3. GO EAST ON SUNSET UNTIL YOU REACH THE GATES OF HELL. Tequila shots and a philosophical cabbie lead Charlie and Alan to a confrontation with their mother.
4. IF I CAN'T WRITE MY CHOCOLATE SONG I'M GOING TO TAKE A NAP. The most important woman in Charlie's life - his cleaning lady - walks out.
5. LAST THING YOU WANT IS TO WIND UP WITH A HUMP. Charlie and Alan discover a great place to score: Jake's soccer games, home of single soccer moms.
6. DID YOU CHECK WITH THE CAPTAIN OF THE FLYING MONKEYS? A new dad for Charlie and Alan? Evelyn flips for a beau ... until he drops her like a bag of cement.
7. IF THEY DO GO EITHER WAY, THEY'RE USUALLY FAKE. Jake spies a tattoo on a pretty girl's half-bare bottom, then draws the naked truth for a school assignment.
8. TWENTY-FIVE LITTLE PRE-PUDERS WITHOUT A SNOOT-FUL. Fourth grade - the musical. Charlie 'volunteers' to writea salute to the Industrial Revolution for Jake's class.
9. PHASE ONE, COMPLETE. What's wrong with Miss Right? Everyone thinks Charlie's girlfriend is The One - everyone except Charlie.
10. MERRY THANKSGIVING. Charlie tries to showcase his domestic talents when he hosts a lavish Thanksgiving dinner.
11. ALAN HARPER. FRONTIER CHIROPRACTOR. Makeover magic. Charlie's the man with the plan when Alan decides to jump-start his life with a new look.
12. CAMEL FILTERS + PHEROMONES. A minor problem. Berta's Lolita-like teenage granddaughter creates chaos in the Harper household.
13. SARA LIKE PUNY ALAN. On their last double date, Charlie got the incredible cheerleader and Alan got the incredible Hulk. Does Alan dare try again?
14. I CAN'T AFFORD HYENAS. When Charlie hits a financial pothole, he has to (gasp! shudder!) cut back on expenses.
15. ROUND ONE TO THE HOT CRAZY CHICK. Batter up! The guys bring home Frankie, a gorgeous woman with a baseball bat ... and anger insues.
16. THAT WAS SALIVA, ALAN. Two and a half men - plus one and a half women. Frankie brings her eight-year-old daughter to stay.
17. ATE THE HAMBURGES, WEARING THE HATS. In his will, Alan names a guardian for Jake ... and it isn't Charlie.
18. AN OLD FLAME WITH A NEW WICK. (My personal favourite) My, how you've changed. Charlie's old girlfriend wants to be friends. And now she's a he.
19. I REMEMBER THE COATROOM, I JUST DON'T REMEMBER YOU. Twisted sister. Judith's seductive sister once had a fling with Charlie but now she's cuddling up to Alan.
20. HEY, I CAN PEE OUTSIDE IN THE DARK. Jake gets a guitar and an attitude. He just can't seem to lose the blues.
21. NO SNIFFING, NO WOWING. Alan's divorce attorney is a major hottie but Charlie discovers she's too hot to handle.
22. MY DOCTOR HAS A COW PUPPET. Well at least it's exercise. Alan resumes his childhood sleepwalking habit.
23. JUST LIKE BUFFALO. Shhhhhhhhhhhh! Jake repeats Charlie's sexist comment in front of Judith's man-averse support group.
24. CAN YOU FEEL MY FINGER? After a girlfriend has a pregnancy scare, Charlie decides a little snip-snip will prevent any future worries.
This is such a funny show and I know you're gonna love it. I highly recommend this one.

Everybody Loves Raymond: The Complete Ninth Season (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)Everybody Loves Raymond: Complete Ninth Season marks the end of this excellent television series. Fortunately, we are able to enjoy the series over and over again on DVD. This season somehow kept things as fun and fresh as the first 8 seasons. How the series was able to maintain its excellence for such a long period of time is a testament to the great cast. The interplay between the actors is excellent and it is difficult to remember that these people are really not related. It is also rather sad to watch the final episodes as Peter Boyle's health was waning. In spite of this, he was still great in the show. This season features the following episodes. Ironic that the last two shows were as strong as any in the series. My only complaint is that there are only 16 episodes rather than the typical 22-23. But that is just a desire for more ELR.

Two and a Half Men: The Complete Sixth Season (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a huge fan of this show, which over the first five seasons has maintained a fantastically high laugh count and developed some terrific characters played by some top quality actors. The writing is consistently brilliant and there's a great chemistry and balance between the characters and actors that make it a real joy to watch.
So, Season Six overall is still highly watchable and remains streets ahead of other comedy shows on both sides of the Atlantic (I'm from the UK, whose last great comedy series The Office gave the USA the American Office, another great show).
BUT... there are some cracks beginning to show. For example, a couple of the episodes - particularly the one where Charlie's new fiancee Chelsea is poorly in bed - just grate on the nerves. Watch it once, you won't want to watch it again. Which was never the case with any episode before.
And it's the Chelsea character that also annoys. She arrives out of nowhere and suddenly Charlie, whose main humour factor has been his total lack of shame and remorse, suddenly becomes this drooling idiot apologising for his past.
We already have that character, for pity's sake, in Alan... the show needs Charlie's 'anti-Alan factor' to keep the balance right. When both of them are emasculated berks under the thumb of ALL the female characters, the show loses its impetus, and starts to irritate its many male fans, like me, who only grew so devoted to it after seeing Charlie's self-centred attitude to women put up there as a refreshing antidote to every comedy series of the past 30 years, where the women are the streetwise, hip, all-seeing power-brokers and the men are just dolts.
So let's have Charlie back as his own man, and ditch the Chelsea character. I mean, for pity's sake, would the Charlie of the first three series have allowed his girlfriend to move into his Malibu pad and turn his bedroom into that awful, flowery, chintzy feminine mess? Never!
Also, like many comedy shows before it (Frasier, for example) as the series went on and on, it started to take itself too seriously and began turning into mawkish soap opera. Will Charlie ever find love and settle down with the right woman? Who the hell cares?
Finally, one great thing about this DVD is the seven-minute compilation of out-takes on the extras on Disc 4... worth the price of the set on its own!

How I Met Your Mother: Season Two (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)This show takes the audience on a bit of a backwards journey down memory lane. The premise has the narrator (Ted) telling his two children the story of how he met their mother. Along the way we meet Lilly and Marshall (known to each other by the sickeningly sweet nicknames Marshmellow and Lillypad) who are a funny, picture perfect cute couple (well...they are now, anyway, after their relationship trouble in season 1). We also meet Robin (Ted's on again, off again girlfriend who turns out *not* to be his future wife) and that rascally womanizing egomaniac, Barney.
I think the casting in this show was outstanding. Neil Patrick Harris shines as Barney, and Alyson Hannigan puts forth a brilliant performance each episode as Lilly. The character of Ted is a good fit for Josh Radnor (who we have thus far only seen in small bit parts in various films, such as Not Another Teen Movie (Unrated Director's Cut). Jason Segal and Cobie Smulders round out the cast nicely as Marshall and Robin. (and if you think you might recognize the voice of the "older Ted Mosbey" during the narrating portion of the show...it's probably because you do. The narrator is actually Bob Saget).
Season 2 pretty much picks up where season 1 left off. In a bizarre case of cold feet, Lilly breaks off her engagement with Marshall and moves to California for an art internship. Marshall is left in New York, alone and heartbroken, while Robin and Ted strike out in their new relationship (despite the fact that they both know they want very different things out of life). Barney, as always, provides much of the comic relief throughout the show, and remains his usual womanizing self. Season 2, from start to finish, is hilarious. I particularly enjoyed the episodes "Ted Mosbey, Architect" and (my all time favorite episode so far) "Robin Sparkles". When you watch them, you'll see why (I seriously couldn't erase the episode Robin Sparkes from my TiVo for like a month, because I just kept re-watching it!).
The dialogue is sharp and witty, and the interpersonal relationships within the group are really fun to watch. I can't ever get through an episode without laughing out loud at least once, and I think thats a good sign for a comedy sitcom. This is situational comedy at it's finest, and while the storylines and situations aren't believable in an apply-it-to-real-life sort of way, it's nonetheless entertaining and humorous, which is sort of the point.
The season 1 box set contained at least 5 episodes with writer/director/producer commentary (with the season finale episode containing commentary from the 5 principle actors). Hopefully season 2 will have the same, because a lot of the commentary is really entertaining!
Bottom line, this is a great show. I'm going out on a limb here (a very high, terrifying limb) but I think this show has the potential to at least partially fill the shoes of shows like "Friends" and "Everybody Loves Raymond", as far as filling the half-hour comedy sitcom void is concerned. Give it a try, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

9. Older Women - It's the first Thanksgiving since Debra's parents have been divorced and Debra is thrilled that both her parents have agreed to have dinner with the Barones. However, she soon learns that her Father is bringing a date.
10. Raybert - Robert meets a beautiful woman who is a big fan of Ray's sports column. But when the woman mistakes Robert for Raymond, Robert doesn't set her straight.

20. A Vote for Debra - Debra decides to run for school president but Ray isn't sure he can handle the twins by himself during all those meetings so he votes against her.
21. Call Me Mom - Marie gets upset when she sees Ray calling Debra's mother "Mom" so Ray tells Debra that maybe she should start calling Marie "Mom".

How I Met Your Mother: Season One (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)Told in a sort of flashback format, How I Met Your Mother follows the story of Ted (Josh Radner) and his group of friends, Marshall (Jason Segel), Lily (Alison Hannigan) and the ever hip Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). Ted is searching for romance in New York City when he falls for the lovely Robin (Cobie Smulders), who isn't quite ready for a big relationship, despite a strong attraction. Over the course of the first season, we follow Ted and company through many a hilarious night, including Barney and Marshall's karaoke binge with Korean Elvis, Ted's meeting a mysterious woman at a wedding who he subsequently falls for, and a hysterical look at Barney in his pre-suit era thanks to the arrival of a mystery tape from an old paramour.
The writing is sharp and fast paced, told in a multiple vignette style that Seinfeld perfected. Of course a hit show wouldn't work without a solid cast, and this one is excellent. Radner has the right blend of earnestness and puppy dog charm as he searches for true romance, Segel shows his excellent comic timing just as he did in shows like Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, and Hannigan is completely right as Marshall's fiancee. Her blend of humor, elegance, and geek beauty is just perfect for the role. Smulders is a nice addition to the group, but its Neil Patrick Harris' turn as the bachelor extraordinaire Barney who is the real star of the show.
