Hi!
I am from germany and was introduced to the "My name is Earl" series through an american friend. So I bought the first season from Amazon in the US and was amazed! I really love the idea that stands behind the series and after a few episodes you get to know and love the characters, too!
The second season shows more background information to the characters and goes deeper into Earl Hickey's universe. I love it! Get both available seasons together, it is a must-have, when you love outstanding comedy!

A great show, which the Amazon reviewer should take time to watch. Witty, fast paced, thoroughly entertaining. True the young couple are the least engaging but the show is more hit than miss, like Russell's sex life. It's a winner.

Here comes the next hilarious season of marital bliss and fantasies of the perfect mate! Whether it's Jeff's (Patrick Warburton) snoring that pushes him into the guest bedroom, the "unsexy" sex tape that Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) try to record, Audrey (Megyn Price) protecting her sister from "the perv" Russell (David Spade), or the time-share vacation they all take together, the second season of Rules of Engagement looks at love from all sides of the bed with humor and honesty that'll keep you laughing no matter what shape you or your relationship is in!

Thank you, Mr. Rowe, for keeping us entertained. I got a copy of Collection 2 last week and have since savored every stomach-twisting episode. I don't know how the guy does it, the filth, claustrophobia, stench, physical harm, all for the sake of enlightening the audience. It is amazing what people will do for a pocketful of cash, and I would not have known about some of these jobs if not for Mr. Rowe's dedication!
Bravo, and keep 'em coming!

Mike tackles some of his dirtiest and most dangerous jobs yet as he slogs through muck and mire in search of bloodworms, guts a mold-infested house damaged by Hurricane Katrina, packs explosives into the wall of a salt mine and much more. But these jobs require more than steel nerves and a strong stomach; sometimes they require sheer finesse - like working with a rare breed of goats that faint anytime they're startled, helping bugs breed in the perfect environment or sculpting gardening pots out of manure. Experience 28 of Rowe's most unusual and adventurous jobs in these 12 complete episodes. You won't believe what some people do to earn a living! Dirty Jobs: Collection 1 (2005) Review

Dirty Jobs: Collection 1 (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Dirty Jobs" is perhaps the most entertaining show currently on television. Every week affable host Mike Rowe does a couple of utterly revolting jobs that make civilization possible, yet are mortifyingly unpleasant. "Collection 1" features some of the very best episodes from the series, and will make almost everyone grateful that they do what they do for a living.
While all the episodes are great, there are a few that are absolutely extraordinary.
"Monkey Caretaker" is one of the most famous episodes. It turns out that monkeys can be extremely difficult to deal with, and so can the caretaker. In the end several injuries ensue, including an especially nasty bite to the sound man's leg.
"Ostrich Rancher" is extraordinary, if for no other reason than seeing Mike trying to put a sock over an angry ostrich's head.
"Alpaca Shearer" is one of my favorite episodes. It is actually one of the cleaner jobs (if you can deal with the high-velocity alpaca spit), but the conclusion is one of the most priceless pieces of television genius I have ever seen. (I'm not going to spoil it for you!)
"Shark Patroller" is from the special "Jobs That Bite." While that episode is actually one of my least favorites overall, the concept of jumping in the ocean with a bunch of freshly-chummed sharks to test a new shark repellant is amazing. I wasn't wild about the shark autopsy: I had to dissect a shark in an upper level biology lab in college, and this brought back several unpleasant memories for me. It's also really the only thing I would say was not suitable for small children on the disc.
"Fuel Tank Cleaner" gives any viewer a new-found respect both for aircraft mechanics and the real meaning of claustrophobia.
"Disaster Cleaner Upper" is my second favorite episode, and features the efforts of a valiant team to recover a basement from the effects of a demonically possessed toilet which dumped the contents of the entire neighborhood's sewer lines into an unsuspecting house. This one grossed me out, especially the use of the garden trowel.
"Casino Food Recycler" is, hands down, my favorite episode of the series so far. A kindly and funny old farmer in Las Vegas recycles food scraps to raise pigs on. The totally novel operation is at once amazing and disgusting, but undeniably ecologically sensible.
Throughout each of these Mike is good-natured, intelligent, and helpful. Well, at least as helpful as he can be. I will give him one thing: there is absolutely nothing he won't do, and I admire that greatly, as some of them I know I would not be up for (changing light bulbs atop a suspension bridge comes to mind). Mike seems like a genuinely nice guy, and is the ideal host of this show: I appreciate his geniality and wit, but even more I appreciate his genuine respect for these people who do some really, really dirty jobs.
When I first heard the concept for this show I thought I would find it boring and formulaic: nothing could be further from the truth. I find it absorbing, entertaining, and educational. I highly recommend this set to anyone and everyone.

Mythbusters: Collection 1 (2003)
Average Reviews:

I found it strange that there is no list of episodes, but decided to order the set anyway. I wasn't disappointed: there is some great classic stuff in this set. The episodes are 1 - 6, 34, 36, 37, 40 and 43 and the shop till you drop and MythBusters revealed specials. [...] There doesn't seem to be any region coding on the DVDs.
The episodes look very good, but sometimes I got the impression that the material wasn't filmed with widescreen viewing in mind, the framing can be on the claustrophobic side. (I.e., zoomed in a bit too far.) The earlier episodes have the myths one after the other, and you can select which one you want to watch. This is great. Unfortunately, in the later episodes we get the more familiar interweaving of the myths so you only get to select the beginning of the myth you want to watch but when the program switches to another myth you have to fast forward manually, there are no additional chapter stops.

I don't have cable TV or a satellite dish, so I don't get the Discovery Channel. My daughter does and I saw this program at her home. I suggested that she tape it for her father as a Christmas gift. She found the DVDs, Collection 1 & 2 and they were a hit with her dad. I bought Collection 3 & 4 for him for his birthday.
Mike Rowe is hilarious as he travels the US in search of people who do, well, "Dirty Jobs." Shows like this almost tempt me to buy cable TV. Almost.

C.S.I. Crime Scene Investigation - The Complete Fourth Season (2000)
Average Reviews:

One of the the best and most popular dramas on TV, CSI is often intense and chilling. The scenes showing the laboratory work are fascinating. Excellent portrayal of team dynamics with people alternately working together and competing against each other.
Here is an episode guide, with a tiny description:
1. Assume Nothing (Part 1): After two couples meet in a bar, one couple is killed. When it happens again, the CSI team suspects serial killers.
2. All for Our Country (Part 2): The lead suspects are killed and Grissom suspects it may have been a cop.
3. Homebodies: An old woman is found mummified. A teen is raped.
4. Feeling the Heat: A triple digit heat wave brings cases of a baby locked in a car, heat stroke, and a woman floating in a lake.
5. Fur and Loathing: A man is found dead dressed in a raccoon suit. A gunshot victim is found frozen in a deep-freezer.
6. Jackpot: A severed head is shipped to Dr. Robbins. Grissom goes to look for the body.
7. Invisible Evidence: At a preliminary hearing for a rape-murder case, the evidence is thrown out on a technicality.
8. After the Show: Catherine takes over a high profile case because the suspect is infatuated with her.
9. Grissom Versus the Volcano: Political pressure influences a sheriff trying to find who killed an air marshall with a car bomb.
10. Coming of Rage: A teenager is found murdered on a construction site.
11. Eleven Angry Jurors: The lone holdout on a jury is found dead in the jury room.
12. Butterflied: A woman who resembles Sara is found murdered. Grissom takes an interest in the case. Rated TV-14-SV.
13. Suckers: An electrocution is a coverup for a theft from an exhibit of Japanese antiquities.
14. Paper or Plastic: A shootout during a grocery store robbery results in five deaths.
15. Early Rollout: A porn star and her husband are murdered execution style.
16 . Getting Off: A man wearing make-up is murdered. At first he appears to have been a transvestite, then the CSI team discovers that he was a clown.

C.S.I. Crime Scene Investigation - The Complete Second Season (2000)
Average Reviews:

The fantastic first season of C.S.I. was only a tease at the ingenuity and innovation to come in season two. With bigger production values and more depth driven storylines; we see this television series entering it's prime thanks to superb performances from the ensemble cast and the ever addicting storytelling which allows the viewer to watch in awe as Grissom (William Petersen) and crew ever so dilligently discover the facts and solve the crimes, but not before a curveball or two are thrown to the viewer. Petersen is at his best while the rest of the cast, which includes Marg Helgenberger, Jorja Fox, and Gary Dourdan amoung others, gets better and better with every next episode. The DVD package itself is nicely put together, but a few more special features would have been nice (especially considering how Fox loads their X-Files DVD's with extras; come on Paramount how about putting some more effort into your releases?), but all together this is a solid deal. All in all, if you've been missing out on the best prime time network drama to hit since The X-Files, I strongly suggest picking up the first season before checking this out.

Law & Order Criminal Intent - The First Year (2001) Review

Law and Order Criminal Intent - The First Year (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would say that Law and Order: CI is, without a doubt, the best Law and Order spinoff and it is always a thrill to watch Det. Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) engage in another intellectual cat-and-mouse game with a brilliant, twisted killer. CI is, quite simply, must see tv.
The first year had the show proving itself admirably. Goren and his partner, Alexandria Eames (Katherine Erbe) quickly become a modern-day Holmes and Watson duo, with Goren as the seemingly omniscient, stalwart detective and Eames lending a lot of humanity to the proceedings. Jamey Sheridan plays Goren and Eames' CO, a buttoned-down, more traditional cop. Courtney B. Vance plays the 'Order' aspect alone as Assistant District Attourney Carver. The leads have an undeniable chemistry, which adds to the show greatly. As a Law and Order show, however, it is the stories that make the show. The show stays true to the "ripped from the headlines" stories that made the original series so unique, but it broke with tradition by declaring that you would see the crime from the criminal's point of view. Although at first I was a bit skeptical about how this device would turn out, but it actually made the show more complex as seeing the crime would not solve it. Also, the show explored its characters, protagonists and villains alike, in a much more psychological manner than had been consistently done in either of the previous series. Finding out the motive for the crime was often more fascinating than a simple whodunit. This season laid a firm foundation for future seasons but is in itself a worthy buy.
Quite simply, this is a show for people who like cultured, sophisticated dramas that challenge them to think about society. It is a show for those who appreciate a good character study and multilayered crime dramas. Above all, though, it is a show for anyone who can enjoy a great yarn and expertly crafted plot twists.
