Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (2003) Review

Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (2003)
Average Reviews:

I agree with some of the other critiques - I'm not sure how well this movie is made in terms of explaining the background of the story. Rose Red was scary. Diary is more like a documentary almost. More drama than horror. It mainly has to do with a husband and wife ... the wife is permissive and the husband is a jerk who sleeps with other women. Not sure what that has to do with the house exactly. I thought they should have focused more on how the house first became haunted. I feel there should be a prequel to the prequel now. To explain in more detail what occurred BEFORE all of this. Like before the house was built. What was there beforehand (like a cemetery, ancient burial grounds, etc.) and why is it haunted in the first place. It was not scary. It wasn't really even suspenseful. It did keep me interested through the whole movie though and the actress that played Ellen Rimbauer I thought was quite good. I would suggest seeing this movie if you are a big fan of Rose Red though because it does explain SOME things ... I wish they would make a sequel too though. "Rose Red: Part Two - Revenege of the House", maybe?
As far as the DVD itself goes, what someone else mentioned is true. If you click on Scene Selections, instead of the scenes for the Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, there are scenes from another movie. Which is a pretty major mistake, I say! No one in production caught that??? Come on, that's a pretty big thing to mess up. Unless... they did it on purpose.... I mean, this is Stephen King we're talking about. ;) I plan on writing to the production company to try and figure out the mystery identity of the Scene Selection mess-up. I'll update when I find out which move it is!

Castle Ghosts of the British Isles (2009) Review

Castle Ghosts of the British Isles (2009)

4 segments- England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales
Each travels to the location- discusses the apparitions- AND covers the history of why they're thought to be there.
You get the beauty of fantastic castles AND the fascinating history of the events thought to cause the disturbances.
It's bloody good fun for everyone. In my opinion, it's hands down the most entertaining "ghost" documentary out there and would be fantastic for anyone looking to build up the atmosphere with a different episode each night approaching Halloween.

This program investigates the myths of ghosts associated with various castles throughout the British Isles. Through the use of eerie reenactments shot on location and dramatic narrative our audience will come face to face with ghosts and shudder at the wail of a banshee. Ireland, the land of saints and scholars, of poets and fairies, is also a country of legends and myths. Castle Ghosts of Ireland is a journey to this land rich in mystery and ancient lore, exploring the eerie halls of Leap Castle, Castle Leslie and Castle Matrix, where a history of the supernatural and an aura of mysticism abound. Scotland has a turbulent past, filled with bloody feuds, heroic deeds and dark treachery. Scottish castles bore witness to much of this violent history, and it is in the energies of Scotland's three most haunted castles, Glamis Castle, Duntrune Castle, and Fyvie Castle, that so many of the country's spirits live on. England is described as 'the isle of spirits', the most haunted place on earth. Castles investigated include Sudley Castle, Mucaster Castle, and the Tower of London. And the brooding castles of Wales are the setting for countless feuds, foul murders, and dastardly deeds. Today, lingering still in the mountains and the valleys are the tormented spirits of the victims, as Castle Ghosts of Wales takes us on a tour of these most haunted places.Narrated by Robert Hardy (Harry Potter's Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge).

I just got this video two days ago and I have already watched at least three times. The guys and gals in this video do a great job of showing some basic, easy-to-create, creative prop ideas for a Haunted House. And, they look like they are having a great time doing it too, which after, is what it's all about, right? I only gave it four stars because I wish it could have been longer!

A Haunting Season 4 (2008) Review

A Haunting Season 4 (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A Haunting is a documentary series that explores allegedly true tales of hauntings, ghosts and the supernatural. Each show is composed of high quality, atmospheric reenactments following the descriptions of eyewitnesses. Superimposed on the action is the creepy, measured voice of a narrator who sets the mood and explains the events. The show is exceptionally effective. Most episodes have at least some unnerving moments and some are downright scary.
Season 4 of A Haunting should continue to appeal to fans. While many of the episodes in Season 4 are interesting, most are not as scary as those from previous seasons. In fact, some episodes can only be described as odd (e.g., Spellbound) and do not focus on a specific haunting. Some shows are excellent and dedicated viewers will still find plenty to enjoy. However, I would recommend that new viewers start with earlier seasons.
Below is a short description of each episode in Season 4. The number in parentheses is my "scariness rating"; scale = 1-5 with 5 being the scariest. Minor spoilers throughout.
Dark Wrath - A demon stalks the halls and terrifies the owners of a rural house near St. Louis (3)
The Awakening - Restless ghosts trouble a Midwestern couple (2)
The Calling - She sees dead people. A young mother is traumatized when her ability to see and interact with the deceased becomes impossible to control (2)
The Apartment - A young Seattle couple are harassed by paranormal visitors when they move into an apartment where a vicious drug battle once took place (1)
Spirits of the Dead - A spooky horse barn is the center of otherworldly events as a dispossessed spirit attempts to control a assemblage of ghosts (2)
Where Evil Lurks - A complex haunting takes place in the Ozarks where a daemon that was summoned in a historically haunted house viciously attacks a young family (4)
Spellbound - Not a typical A Haunting episode. It mainly deals with the relationship between a son who becomes a devote Christian (and eventually a minister) and his mother who practices Wicca (1)
Echoes of the Past - A family moves into an ancient Vermont home where various spirits, mainly those of two little girls, interact with them (1)
Ghost Hunter - The 15 year old son of a ghost hunter becomes possessed while helping her paranormal research team investigate an old cemetery (1)
Stalked by Evil - A spirit that lurks in the closet of a Texas home becomes obsessed with the teenage daughter of the new residents (3)
Casa de los Muertos - A Latino guitarist and family move into an Arizona house haunted by the spirit of a white supremacist (1)
Monster in the Apartment - A young man who dabbles in the occult eventually becomes possessed by a demon and begins to stalk his female roommate (2)
Legend Trippers - Legend trippers are people who visit allegedly haunted sites to investigate paranormal activity. In this episode, several groups of teenagers explore an ancient, creepy Wisconsin cemetery (3)

A Haunting: Season 3 (2008) Review

A Haunting: Season 3 (2008)
Average Reviews:

Season 3 of A Haunting continues to provide well made documentaries of paranormal experiences and investigations. The episodes are just as good, and in some cases better, than those from Seasons 1 & 2. A Haunting is a documentary series that explores allegedly true tales of hauntings, ghosts and the paranormal. Each show is composed of high quality atmospheric reenactments that follow descriptions of eyewitnesses. Superimposed on the action is the creepy, measured voice of a narrator who sets the mood and explains the events. The show is exceptionally effective. Most episodes have at least some unnerving moments and some are downright scary. Viewers interested in the paranormal should love this series as should people who like horror movies.
Below is a short description of each episode in Season 3. The number in parentheses is my "scariness rating"; scale = 1-5 with 5 being the scariest. Minor spoilers throughout.
Fear House - Two separate families independently experience terrifying events in a Missouri house that seems to be able to identify and attack a persons deepest fears (3)
The Attic - Several entities, one good, one harmful, torment a Michigan family when they move into a new home (1)
Hidden Terror - Mysterious ghosts scare a young couple and their friend away from a house in upstate New York (2)
The Unleashed - A young Michigan man unwisely dabbles in black magic over the site of an Indian burial ground and releases demons that psychologically attack him and his family (2)
A Haunting in Ireland - The arrival of a new baby into an Irish household triggers extreme poltergeist activity (3)
The Forgotten - When a young family moves into a one hundred year old home in Salt Lake City, they discover a sinister hidden room where an evil entity dwells (4)
The Wheatsheaf Horror - The use of an ad hoc Ouija board leads to the dramatic escalation of paranormal activity in an English pub where a young girl was murdered (3)
The Possessed - The paranormal investigation of a Virginia barn used for satanic rituals goes awry when the lead investigator becomes possessed by a demonic entity (3)
The Presence - A dysfunctional family is the target of paranormal attack when they move into a northern California house where a demon was unleashed by Black Mass (4)
The Dark Side - An exceptionally creepy New England house is the site of recurrent paranormal events; when a young couple buys the property they discover that the current residents have nailed all of the upstairs doors closed (4)

Paranormal Destinations (2007) Review

Paranormal Destinations (2007)

I am always leary of purchasing my "paranormal" DVDs becuase I when I receive it, it usually turns out to be a bunch of made-for-tv programs that I've seen and/or ordered before--they just CHANGED THE NAME OF THE DVD. (which really ticks me off--who do they think they're fooling?) But this DVD was awesome and I have NONE of these segements on other "paranormal" DVDs--although (this being from Travel Channel) I do vaguely remember (obviously) seeing some of these on that channel before (to be expected) but was VERY Surprised by the IN-DEPTH segment on Dracula. I've never seen it before nor even heard of most of the tales connected. This DVD was well worth it!!!! You will NOT be disappointed! (Others on here have complained about DVD not working properly--that may be with theirs, but ours worked perfectly fine).
