Castle Ghosts of the British Isles (2009) Review

Castle Ghosts of the British Isles (2009)
Average Reviews:

4 segments- England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales
Each travels to the location- discusses the apparitions- AND covers the history of why they're thought to be there.
You get the beauty of fantastic castles AND the fascinating history of the events thought to cause the disturbances.
It's bloody good fun for everyone. In my opinion, it's hands down the most entertaining "ghost" documentary out there and would be fantastic for anyone looking to build up the atmosphere with a different episode each night approaching Halloween.

This program investigates the myths of ghosts associated with various castles throughout the British Isles. Through the use of eerie reenactments shot on location and dramatic narrative our audience will come face to face with ghosts and shudder at the wail of a banshee. Ireland, the land of saints and scholars, of poets and fairies, is also a country of legends and myths. Castle Ghosts of Ireland is a journey to this land rich in mystery and ancient lore, exploring the eerie halls of Leap Castle, Castle Leslie and Castle Matrix, where a history of the supernatural and an aura of mysticism abound. Scotland has a turbulent past, filled with bloody feuds, heroic deeds and dark treachery. Scottish castles bore witness to much of this violent history, and it is in the energies of Scotland's three most haunted castles, Glamis Castle, Duntrune Castle, and Fyvie Castle, that so many of the country's spirits live on. England is described as 'the isle of spirits', the most haunted place on earth. Castles investigated include Sudley Castle, Mucaster Castle, and the Tower of London. And the brooding castles of Wales are the setting for countless feuds, foul murders, and dastardly deeds. Today, lingering still in the mountains and the valleys are the tormented spirits of the victims, as Castle Ghosts of Wales takes us on a tour of these most haunted places.Narrated by Robert Hardy (Harry Potter's Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge).

The Food Network's Kevin Brauch has every guy's dream job - travel to foreign countries just to try their beer. In the first installment of the series, Brauch wings it to Scotland to track down some whisky, travels to Ireland in search of stout, tries a bunch of beer in Belgium, and visits France to try their Champagne. Each visit includes a lesson on the local culture, the traditions associated with the native alcoholic beverage and, best of all, a wine or beer or whisky and food pairing with local cuisine. Highly recommended, the perfect video to enjoy over drinks on a quiet Friday night.

Ghost Adventures: Season One (2009) Review

Ghost Adventures: Season One (2009)

I used to be a diehard Ghost Hunters fan. Well, now that Ghost Hunters are boring, aging, and faking evidence, I got interested again in watching Ghost Adventures. What these three guys achieve as far as REAL evidence, energetic film making, and giving us a more satisfying back story to each haunted location, is far above and beyond what Ghost Hunters is dredging out these days. I like the way Zak provokes "only the bad entities" and ultimately gets results. Their reactions to their interactions with the spirit world are genuine and fun to watch. These guys are the real deal and unlike GH, they scream and run sometimes, and you know what? So would I!!! That's why I love them. I love that they take more time to show us the history of the locations and they are very respectful of the people they interview. It just adds so much more to the show and to our experience. Try not to be moved by "Redbone", the ex-inmate of Moundsville Penitentiary, who couldn't wait to take the boys on a tour of the prison after over 20 years of freedom from its walls, only to have to leave in tears when visiting his best friend's cell and recalling the day of his friend's murder in that very cell. VERY touching stuff.Zak, Aaron, and Nick love what they do and it shows. The episodes are sufficiently creepy and amazing in the evidence they produce. You will not be disappointed.

Five Years On Mars (2008) Review

Five Years On Mars (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The story is how two 400-pound wheeled robots far exceeded their design specifications and everyone's expectations to explore and make discoveries on that distant and hostile world known as Mars. They had worked on that planet for five years (and longer) when this film was released. Thanks to excellence in engineering and construction, expert guidance, and not a little ingenuity and luck, the two MERs (Mars Exploration Rovers) have delivered thousands of images and enough data to keep planetary scientists busy with journal articles for years. Our ideas of the true nature and history of Mars have been re-shaped. The successes of MERs "Spirit" and "Opportunity" in the areas of science and engineering are legion. The surprise is how emotionally invested we can become in the exploits and fates of two sophisticated hunks of machinery.
This film brings to the viewer the feeling that we are there, on Mars, hiking alongside those wonderful little machines as they struggle to survive sand traps, dust storms, and the incredibly cold Martian winters. The narration is fact-filled and interesting. Interviews with the principle scientists, engineers, and technicians are appropriate and impart the intensity of human involvement in the rovers' operation and their fates. Imagery is accurate and beautiful (though the speed of animated rover movement has been greatly increased for the sake of illustration). This film has shown a number of times on the National Geographic Channel and is as superb an example of a space science documentary as you will find. It is far superior to many current space science programs that emphasize incredible "what-ifs," explosions, repeated action sequences, and vapid narrative. This engrossing true life adventure of exploration and discovery shines bright. Those interested in space exploration, particularly that of the Red Planet, will enjoy viewing this film repeatedly and will want to add it to their collections. It is highly recommended.

When the NASA rovers Spirit and Opportunity touched down on Mars in 2004, they weren\'t expected to last long—perhaps 90 days, or six months at most. But 90 days have stretched into almost five years, and a short-term science mission searching for evidence of water has turned into one of the greatest adventures of the Space Age.The rovers have trekked miles across hostile plains, climbed mountains, ventured in and out of deep craters, gotten stuck in sand dunes, survived dust storms and mechanical failures, and cheated death so often that no one will venture a guess as to how much longer they might last.Five Years on Mars follows this amazing story of two rovers that may be among some of the greatest explorers in history.

Paranormal Destinations (2007) Review

I am always leary of purchasing my "paranormal" DVDs becuase I when I receive it, it usually turns out to be a bunch of made-for-tv programs that I've seen and/or ordered before--they just CHANGED THE NAME OF THE DVD. (which really ticks me off--who do they think they're fooling?) But this DVD was awesome and I have NONE of these segements on other "paranormal" DVDs--although (this being from Travel Channel) I do vaguely remember (obviously) seeing some of these on that channel before (to be expected) but was VERY Surprised by the IN-DEPTH segment on Dracula. I've never seen it before nor even heard of most of the tales connected. This DVD was well worth it!!!! You will NOT be disappointed! (Others on here have complained about DVD not working properly--that may be with theirs, but ours worked perfectly fine).
