(More customer reviews)This was one of our favorite shows and will be again as soon as Fox brings it back for Season 2!! Based in Chicago, "Thesis" (as his boss calls him) gets a job in upper management for an airline company right out of college (thanks to his thesis work)... he tries to be responsible, but things somehow always go awry... his friends have a few screws loose, his co-worker (an older woman) is constantly making advances toward him, and his boss... well, I guess you'll have to watch for yourself, because can't come up with a good way to describe him! Overall, this is a very smart and very funny fresh new comedy and definitely worth the money for the entire first season! I just checked the Fox website and Season 2 begins June 10th... I can't wait!

(More customer reviews)This outstanding series gives PBS's "American Family" a run for its money as the finest series about a typical, all-American family. Superbly acted across the board, from proud, tough-love Patriarch Roberto (the excellent Tony Plana), struggling sister-in-law Bibi (Elizabeth Pena - why isn't this woman a star?) and her loving son Tommy (the underrated Douglas Spain) to always-reliable veterans Rita Moreno and Glynn Turman... this series strikes gold on all counts, from the fine acting and directing to the smart scripts and warm designs. Let's hope Paramount resurrects seasons two and three on DVD in the not-too-distant-future. It's impossible not to fall in love with these characters. Bravo!

Smallville - The Complete First Six Seasons (2001) Review

Season One (*****): Sets down the roots of an amazing show focusing on the younger (high school) days of Clark Kent, the future hero Superman. In this season, Clark's crush on Lana Lana and friendship (yes, friendship) with Lex Luthor are developed, as well a certain green substance that seems to wreak havoc on the town of Smallville.
Season Two (*****): This season focuses on Clark finding out his Kryptonian heritage, including a very moving guest appearance from a man of Superman movie lore. What I consider to be the best part of this season is all the allusions to the Superman cannon (or mythology)...there are multiple great moments in each episode that will make you crack a smile.
Season Three (*****): What I consider to be the best season of the show, as it explores the potential for evil in Lex Luthor and why he is so troubled. Lex's psychotic break is a high point in the series, while this is also the last season that the Clark/Lana romance remains emotional on a week-to-week level.
Season Four (****): The plot got a little weaker this season (I think the producers needed something for Lana Lang's character to do, thus the "witches" plotline), but it still introduced classic characters from the Superman comics and saw all the main characters graduate Smallville High, taking the show in a whole new direction.
Season Five (*****): This season rebounds from a weaker previous season, as it introduces a new famous Superman villain (at this point much more powerful than Lex Luthor), has an emotional special Christmas episode, and features a 100th episode that will have you reaching for the tissue box on multiple occasions.
Season Six (***): By far the weakest season of the show. Starts out with a bang, but never achieves that kind of success again until the season finale. The Clark/Lana romance is so stretched that it becomes like a soap opera, losing its emotional punch. An evil Lex and a junior Justice League forming are the highlights of this emotional bereft season.

Jericho of Scotland Yard - Set 1 (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I used to work in the West End, near Soho, in the early '60's as a teenager and found that Jericho had captured the atmosphere and seediness of that time in Soho, wonderfully. It also bought back forgotten memories e.g. block mascara which had to be wetted before applying dipping the brush in it. Girls used to spit on to the block as it was found the mascara stayed on longer than with water and gave a better look!!
I think that Robert Lindsay was right for the part and is a strong lead to a good cast. I found it a good entertaining buy.

As a teenager a couple of years ago, this show opened a door to my imagination, wanting "Pokémon" to be real so I could travel the world on foot with my friends or family. It's a very interesting story with easy names to remember, it's all about believing in yourself, following your dreams and caring for others. I first got into Pokémon with the fad was dying off, because I did not want to be caught up in all that madness. My sister who is one year younger than me was into Pokémon, when it first came out in America and she eventually got me into Japanese Animation like this one and other basic shows like "Sailor Moon" and the "Tenchi Muyo" series. This Pokémon boxest is only in English, there are no subtitles on any of the disc, however the show is Closed Captioned by using your television remote, also there are no special features and the banned episodes that didn't appear on American T.V., are not on here too. Besides having no special features or the banned episodes, it's still a great boxset of the first half of season one.
P.S. - The "Pokérap" is hear, it's just not include as a special feature.

24 - TV Starter Set (Season 1, Episodes 1-2) (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)In a recent effort to get casual fans interested in their TV products on DVD, Fox has released two episode starter sets of several of their shows. Reasonably priced, they tempt the viewer to buy the first season and even provide a coupon for the purchase price of the sampler off the price of the complete first season if offered. The casual fan has little to loose.
Here, Fox is offering the first two episodes of season 1 of 24, the most addicting thrill ride on TV today. Just as the Bauer family is about to call it a night, Jack gets a phone call that sends him into work. CTU has a credible threat on Presidential candidate Senator David Palmer. Meanwhile, daughter Kim sneaks out for a night with friends and Teri goes off after her. And Senator Palmer is facing a potential blackmail crisis of his own.
This show did take a few episodes of fully suck me in, but the trouble with this set is it most likely will. If you are a marginal fan of the show, having two episodes just isn't going to cut it. You'll need to have the complete first season to have all of what happens next. And, of course, you'll enjoy every minute of it.
This is brilliant marketing on Fox's part. You'll be buying the complete set before you can say cliffhanger. That coupon is going to come in very handy.

What I Like About You: The Complete First Season (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)"What I Like About You" is a cute WB sitcom about two sisters living together in New York. Jennie Garth of "90210" plays the older sister Val, who is a bit of a neurotic and the parental figure in her teenage sister, Holly's life. The two other regulars in the first season are Val's goofy boyfriend, Jeff, who runs a restaurant and Holly's best friend, Gary. The storylines revolve around Val's love life and her job at an advertisement agency and Holly's tendency to get into trouble due to her spontaneous nature. In subsequent seasons, new characters are added to the show and the humor gets a little nuttier. Season 2, 3 and 4 are very different from this first season, but in a good way. The show only gets better and better. It may not have been a breakthrough sitcom or particularly original, but I always found "What I Like About You" to be a fun, enjoyable show and definitely one of the best sitcoms ever on The WB. It kept me coming back for all four seasons with the sisters' romantic relationships, the lighthearted fun and the occasional cliffhangers.
