Mitzi Gaynor: Razzle Dazzle The Special Years (2008) Review

Mitzi Gaynor: Razzle Dazzle The Special Years (2008)

"Ladies and gentlemen... Miss Mitzi Gaynor" and be prepared for a wonderful surprise, for this is one of the "must have" DVDs of the year.
The first time I saw Mitzi was on the movie version of SOUTH PACIFIC and I liked her Nellie Forbush. Later I had the pleasure of seeing her dancing with Gene Kelly in LES GIRLS and with Donald O'Connor in ANYTHING GOES and THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS. Unfortunately, I never saw any of her television specials and to be completely honest (please keep in mind that I live in Portugal) I didn't even knew of their existence. So, imagine my surprise when I put this DVD running and suddenly realized that there was much more to Mitzi than I knew from the movies.
Last year I discovered at YouTube a video of her energetic and funny 1967 Oscar appearance with "Georgy Girl" and I loved seeing it. Now, with this DVD, I have plenty more to see and I tell you that's all worthy. Mitzi was (still is) an amazing performer, able to sing, dance and act; with a gorgeous smile that conquers our hearts and make us want to be her friend.
This DVD takes a look at all her television specials (the first was in 1963 and the last in 1978), with plenty of material to keep us happy and it also includes interviews with people who worked with her, like Bob Mackie (the costume designer who did all of her fabulous costumes), and with fans like Kristine Chenoweth. But the best is the interviews with Mitzi herself who, at the age of 77, still looks great, with a terrific sense of humor and an energy that make us jealous. Personally, I think I could listen to her for hours without getting bored.
As for the musical numbers, they may look dated (it was the 60s and the 70s), but there's a joy to them that is contagious and made me wish that this kind of shows were still being produced. It's amazing the imagination and love that were behind all those numbers and I believe there were made by a happy group of people, who had a wonderful time doing them. Let's hope that one day the entire shows will be released on DVD.
There are some terrific special features included. In one of them Mitzi and Bob Mackie remember the amazing costumes she wore on those shows and share their memories with us. There are also several complete performances, including an hilarious movie parody, Mitzi's transformation into a Kid and some great musical numbers.
I guess that today's audiences may not be familiar with Mitzi, but I believe that with this joyful DVD a new era will begin for her and her dazzling talent will once again be recognized by many, if not all.
Thanks for a wonderful time, Mitzi! You really knew how to shine and you still do.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a RHCP's live performance with John Frusciante back in the lineup. By far my favorite guitar player they've had, I didn't know if he could still play after his drug abuse problems in the years away from the band. Their "Californication" did little to alleviate those fears, his playing and soloing being so sparse and sort of un-practiced sounding. Don't get me wrong. "Californication" is a great album but it's much different from the chops galore "Blood Sugar Sex Magic". (And I don't mean that as a slam-BSSM is a masterwork in no small part due to Frusciante's intricate, interweaving lines throughout).
"Off the Map" put all my doubts to bed. Frusciante plays his [behind] off. Just check out "If You Have to Ask". Shredding, but he's so much more than than just a shredder. Something magical happens when his Strat, through a Wah, hits a Marshall. It's the tone for sure and then his note selection and use of space that really sets him apart from "shredders". I had read recently in a guitar magazine interview that he's trying to change his style, henceforth the new, sparse approach he's used on the last two albums. It's pretty funny to watch actually. When they play the new songs his playing shifts dramatically to the new style he's developing.
And don't let me forget Chad Smith and Flea. They are powerhouses here. Flea's gone from slapmaster (oh, he can still slap!) to improvisor and it suits him well. Chad is like a rock holding John and Flea's improvisations together.
This is a fun and inspiring dvd. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star review is because it does falter here and there. But that's what you get when your live show isn't prerecorded canned [stuff] and you take musical risks. That where the fun happens with these guys.

This instructional video is the most amazing purchase I have ever made. I am not a great dancer, but my will to dance is extraordinary, and this video, along with Sexy Moves has just brought me out of my shell. I cannot wait to show these moves off. I am really glad I purchased both videos at the same time. I have just discovered that there is a dancer in me and I am soooooooo happy I found her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Shawn Trautman is the best dance instructor yet! A great teacher in addition to dancer. I've tried several dance instruction VHS and DVD's (9 in all from Christy Lane, Diane Horner, Teresa Mason, Wiley Hicks, and Cal Pozo), but I didn't stick with them, because they would move so fast that you'd get lost. I would get tired of starting them over and over just trying to pick up the steps. But Shawn makes it so simple to learn, keeping it at a slower pace for the beginner. He also throws in some variations for more challenge. They're so good, I have added 4 of his DVD's to my collection. But his aren't collecting dust like the others.

lovedddddddd it! It was an incredibly well done video and the most important thing, the instruction, was also the best thing about it. The video is set up like this: there are about 25 moves in total, including transition moves. Each move starts out with the dancers demonstrating the move first, lasting about thirty seconds or so. Then the lead begins with a very detailed explanation where she breaks everything down, body part by body part. Her pointers were extremely effective and she's great at anticipating what you would be struggling with. Each move is about 5 minutes long and Nicole shows you the move from the front as well as the back. The camera angles were very professional and the close-ups were definitely useful. Oh did I mention they were wearing heels? Yes, these hot dance moves are possible in four inch heels! Finally, each section is wrapped up by the girls showing you the move full speed one last time and giving you last minute pointers. You may have to rewind some of the more difficult moves several times, but it's almost scary to see yourself improve. I started seeing changes almost immediately after I bought the video and my moves became smoother in no time.

Exotic Dance: The Irresistible Art (2007) Review

I bought both Lady M's dvds. I didn't find one harder than the other. The second one is contains more moves, but i liked the ending Demo in the first one better.
The instructor is respectful, careful, slow, patient with herself, and perfect at teaching shy people to be more bold with eye. She's a woman's woman, you admire her, you like her, you listen to her, she's non-threatening while being a sex-bomb all at once. In short, she's pretty much a delight, and really the perfect teacher for exotic dance.

She makes you want to buy a giant feather fan and get some pasties and stockings with bows on them, mix a cosmopolitan and just slowwwwwwwwwww down, baby, and pretend you are about to use your feminine moves search-out, seduce, then throughly destroy James Bond all without compromising your self-respect in the least.
My only complain is the moves were repeated slowly way too many times, and I don't get why they repeat something slowly twice or more, since that's what chapters on dvd's are designed for. That frustates and annoys me. I enjoyed all the costume changes tho! Loved that!
The "full choreography" routine at the end was a dissapointment in that it's full of talking, and stopping, and advice, where as that all should have been done the step-by-step and choreography parts of each routine. The final, full dance should be silent so you can concentrate on preforming.
But none of these complaints take away from the care or attention of the instructor or the sexy unhurried, unrushed atmosphere.
If you're a hardcore athelete or a pole dancer, this will be way too slow and easy unless you are looking *to* slow down.
I'm glad I own it. As a final visual reference, think of a britney spears video melting *very* slowly......

Step Up 2 The Streets (2008) Review

Step Up 2 The Streets (2008)
Average Reviews:

The fellow below me is, in all aspects, correct. If what you look for in a dance movie is to be highly distracted by a shabby plot. Me, I loved Step Up 2 for this very reason...
Most dance movies aim too high: they want killer dance scenes -with- an excellent plot. What do most wind up with? Trite, familiar plots they still try to execute even though we've seen them before (so we know well enough to follow along) while still delivering a sliver or two of dance sequences... but nowhere near the amount the usual viewer wants to see.
Now, Step Up 2 says a big "yeah right" to that entire idea.
There is next to NO plot. Yeah, it's there, barely. Enough to pretend that it's not one long music video. But, it really IS like one long music video--and that's wicked awesome. The dance scenes are long and intricate, the music is great, and it delivers on everything I want to see in a dance movie: less talking and more dancing.
So if you're into these sorts of movies for the chick flick value, it might be a skip or a rent. But if you're into it for, well, the dancing--I give it 5 stars.

On the whole, the DVD is OK. The stories are cute and the songs are great. However, my 3 year old started watching the shows on Disney Channel and the format now is so structured - basically the same every episode (Find Moe, go record a video, get on the bus, go to the show). He was really alarmed that these early episodes are completely different, but finally is OK with that. Also, these episodes the Doodlebops the makeup looks a lot different. Looks like the wig is attached to the neck and head and the actors faces peek through

When I watched this movie I was pleasantly surprised. The story started out to be what I thought was going to be another "Quiz Show", but it turned out a lot different. It's a great movie for those who enjoy a love story with a twist. It's plot was ironic in places, and the ending was a bit of a surprise. I actually found it to be quite interesting to see how people so beat up, find hope in each other and end up being happy in the end.
