Ever since the second season ended on TV, I've been scouring Amazon and Best Buy at least twice a month for the release date!
The second season of the 4400 begins a year after the events of season 1, not counting the small interlude with Richard and Lily in hiding, and Lily going into labor with her baby.
Since the end of season 1, Baldwin has been stuck behind a desk while Skouris, rotating through a number of incompetent partners, has made little to no progress investigating the 4400. Skouris is also adopting the clairvoyant girl Maia as her daughter, and Baldwin's son Kyle, out of his coma, has been in quaratine for the past year, much to his frustration. Jordan Collier, billionaire and 4400 member, is attempting to build a seperate nation or some such for the 4400, and he's not above breaking the law to do it. His search for Richard, Lily, and their six-month-old baby Isabelle also continues, while Richard & Lily are on the run from the US government, and zealots who believe the 4400 to be a harbinger of doom. The cast took a bit of a blow with the departure of Peter Coyote as boss Dennis Ryland, who was replaced by Samantha Ferris as the new boss, Nina Jarvis.Star Trek fans receive a bit of a treat this season with appearances by Jeffery Combs (DS9's Weyoun, Brunt & Enterprise's Shran) and Robert Picardo (Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram).
With the third season set to begin this summer (with Combs appearing in half of the episodes!), I'm eager to see the second season again, without commercials.
The 4400 is the best sci-fi series on TV these days, IMHO, since the loss of Star Trek: Enterprise and The X-Files, which is why I'm proud to add this set to my collection.
Twelve episodes make up the 2nd season, and they're 12 good hours to spend. :-)
But if you plan to spend summer watching reality shows, I pity you.

Family Affair - Season 4 (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)Despite a general lack of inventiveness, Season #4 for Don Fedderson & Company's "Family Affair" overcomes the usual fourth year fatigue with predictably good performances by Anissa Jones and Johnnie Whitaker as Buffy and Jody Davis, and several good plots for Kathy Garver's Cissy and Sebastian Cabot's French. Brian Keith, his toupee darkened to a cinnamon-brown, is only half-present, though his repartee with the kids is still terrifically warm. Episode 7 finds Buffy nursing a broken leg (for a script apparently whipped up on the spot when Jones broke her leg in real-life). Episode 5 has Jody being wrongly accused of breaking a school window and getting suspended (not Jody!!). Episode 4 has Cissy (temporarily) leaving home. Number 2 sees a visit from Uncle Bill's pal (Dana Andrews) who spent five years in prison! Number 19 has Buffy and Jody coming into a surprise inheritance of $54.00 (which they take to the local toy store--stocked with a heap of now-collectable goodies). And 25 & 26 have the Davises vacationing in Tahiti, where Cissy falls in love with married man Michael Blodgett. Many wonderful memories and laughs in this sensitive, lightly funny '60's gem! Thanks to the website "Apartment 27A" for the episode list, which they count as 26 episodes for the season.

(More customer reviews)I guess I never saw the final season of the show when it was in its first release because I don't remember any of the episodes. I own the other five seasons, so you can tell I'm a big fan of the series in general. I've watched most of the shows now on this 6th season set and I was really surprised. I kinda expected the last year to fall off in quality and to rehash a lot of the same schtick. But so far I've really liked every episode. By this time in the series the actors are all very comfortable with one another but the relationships don't feel stale to me. If you are inclined to like some of the other seasons, then you might want to take a chance on this one as well.

The Last Detective - Series 2 (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)This enjoyable low-key British crime drama continues with Peter Davison as the under-appreciated, constantly bullied, but well-loved copper, DC Davies. Following his eviction by his landlady, he is now forced to live with his idiosyncratic friend Mod (Sean Hughes). His estranged wife, Julie (Emma Amos), doesn't appear until the 2nd episode and this season we get to see a less pleasant side of her. The second season doesn't have quite as much interaction between Davies and his friends and colleagues as I would have like. This was its appeal to me in the first season. Here it focuses more on the crime solving and mystery element. The mysteries however don't have quite the polish of those from Arthur Conan Doyle, P.D. James or Agatha Christie. Still they serve as moderately intriguing puzzlers. Again, just 4 episodes in this season. British seasons are so painfully short. Thankfully the episodes last a good 70-minutes each.
Episode 1 (Christine) finds Davies looking into the mysterious demise of a rich painter, apparently burnt to death in his own locked room. Suspicion falls on the young, alluringly beautiful and not too grieving widow, Christine (the very sexy Susan Vidler). Mod comes up with his usual crackpot theory: spontaneous human combustion.
Episode 2 (The Long Bank Holiday) finds Davies bullied into working over the Easter weekend. He helps an Indian pharmacist settle a dispute with a racist neighbour and then discovers a horde of buried bones in the man's backyard. An apparent suicide on the train tracks and the disappearance of a prisoner on home-leave are tied together by a murder that happened 20 years ago.
Episode 3 (Benefit to Mankind) has Davies travelling to Wales to look into the apparent suicide of a scientist involved in pharmaceutical research and the subsequent disappearance of his assistant. His sympathetic boss tries to help by counselling him to be more assertive and Davies finally shows some temper and backbone by standing up to the young detectives who constantly poke fun at him.
Episode 4 (Dangerous & The Lonely Hearts) is based on the last of Leslie Thomas' "Dangerous" novels. It is also the most satisfying of the four episodes. Davies helps 8-year-old Katie track down her mother's killer. Davies discovers that his boss visits the same dating agency as the dead mother and that they had gone out together. He also reaches the end of the tether with his estranged wife and gives her an ultimatum.
Not quite as sunny and jovial as the first season, this still makes for a very pleasant evening of light, easy-going entertainment. Like the previous season, Acorn presents this in the original 1.78:1 widescreen (Anamorphic). The 4 episodes are generously spread over 2 discs. Picture quality is excellent. Sound is in the original 2.0 Dolby Surround. Again, no subtitles are provided. Extras include a biography and bibliography for Leslie Thomas, a cast filmography and a picture gallery.
Note: The Fourth season has already aired in Britain and the Fifth is currently in production.

As disrespected, disheveled, and endearingly dedicated as ever, Detective Constable "Dangerous" Davies (Peter Davison, Doctor Who, All Creatures Great and Small) returns to solve four new, full-length mysteries. His wife left him, his coworkers sarcastically dubbed him "Dangerous," and his boss called him the "last detective" expected to crack a big case. He even listens to advice from his kooky chum Mod (Sean Hughes, The Commitments). Still, Dangerous manages to make connections that slicker chaps in the North London constabulary miss. Whether investigating the mysterious deaths of a would-be artist, a medical researcher, an unknown victim under a high-speed train, or a pretty Kosovan refugee, Davies shows that underdogs do have their day. (More customer reviews)4,400 people who disappeared over the last 60 years are returned to earth all at once, and they are the same age as when they were abducted. The returnees have no memory of what happened while they were gone, and some demonstrate supernatural powers that they didn't have before they left.
Two federal agents, Tom and Diana, are assigned to investigate. Tom's nephew is one of the returnees who has been missing for three years. Diana develops a relationship with a now parentless child who was abducted several decades ago. The writers do a nice job of combining threads that continue from episode to episode with the new situations that arise. This show has been described as "X-Files meet X-Men". Recommended for sci-fi or fantasy fans.
I hunted around the internet for some information about the DVD. I found www.the4400.com, which says that the Pilot and four episodes is included on the DVD set. The artwork doesn't mention any extras, which is disappointing if that is the case.
1. Pilot (2 hour movie): What scientists believe is a comet is actually a ball of light that leaves behind 4400 missing persons. The 4400 are quarantined and finally released.
2. The New & Improved Carl Morrissey: One of the 4400 becomes a vigilante trying to clean up the crime in his neighborhood.
3. Becoming: An M.O. used in a homicide is the same as the M.O. of a serial killer from 25 years ago. As the public turns hostile toward the 4400, one returnee, Jordan, decides to organize.
4. Trial By Fire: When a reporter makes the names of the 4400 public, the returnees are targeted by fire-bombers. Jordan tries to provide shelter for his fellow returnees.
5. White Light: The federal agents make a discovery about what had really happened to the 4400.
It's been a while since an episode aired, and I had some question about its future status. I've read that Season 2 has been ordered and will have 13 episodes starting in June 2005.

Blade The Series - The Complete Series (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I totally looked forward to Wednesday nights on SpikeTV for Blade: The Series! It was a fun show which kept true to the Blade movies and even added some fun along the way. With the budget that Spike had to make this series it did a fantastic job! It left me wanting more after every episode! I couldn't believe that it had to be cancelled because it got too expensive for Spike to produce. I wish it got picked up by someone else. The acting was more than adequate, and the special effects and fight scenes were great! I was waiting for the Season release on DVD, and now that it is around the corner I will be purchasing it the day it comes out! All the nay-sayers of this series need to remember that it was a TV show and not a big budget movie. Spike and the directors and writers did a great job with this. It's pretty obvious that it had an audience if it is being released on DVD! BUY IT and enjoy some comic book fun!!
