Max & Ruby - Springtime for Max & Ruby (2002) Review

Max and Ruby - Springtime for Max and Ruby (2002)

Ruby is the patient and gently bossy big sister to Max. These bunnies share loving sibling rivalry as curious Max tries join in on playtime with Ruby and her friend Louise--often to Ruby's dismay!
This 96 minute DVD features 12 different episodes:
Max's Chocolate Chicken - Max and Ruby are looking for Easter Eggs, and whoever finds the most will win the Chocolate Chicken!
Ruby's Beauty Shop - Louise is coming over to play Beauty Shop with Ruby, and Max is going to be their first customer. Will he like looking gorgeous? (A very amusing episode!)
Max Drives Away - When Max drives away in his little red car, Ruby needs to play detective and search for clues to find him.
Camp Out - Ruby wants to camp outside, but Max wants to sleep outside the tent! And he wants to bring a few toys with him...
Ruby's Clubhous - Ruby and Louise are playing in their private clubhouse, but Max doesn't know the meaning of the word "private".
Max's Picnic - Ruby and Louise are bird watching before their picnic, but Max is more interested in watching the cupcake in the picnic basket.
The other six episodes in this delightful DVD are:
*Ruby's Merit Badge
*Max's Apple
*Quiet, Max!
*Max Misses the Bus
*Max's Wormcake
*Max's Rainy Day
My 6 year old really enjoys this DVD, sometimes watching it several times a day! There's something mesmerizing about Max and Ruby, and definitely amusing. Kids used to cartoons geared toward older children--or ones with loud, crass, fast-paced action--will find this DVD "slow". But for kids (and parents!) who are used to kinder, gentler, and softer cartoons, Max and Ruby is a delight.

Family Affair - Season 4 (2002) Review

Family Affair - Season 4 (2002)
Average Reviews:

Despite a general lack of inventiveness, Season #4 for Don Fedderson & Company's "Family Affair" overcomes the usual fourth year fatigue with predictably good performances by Anissa Jones and Johnnie Whitaker as Buffy and Jody Davis, and several good plots for Kathy Garver's Cissy and Sebastian Cabot's French. Brian Keith, his toupee darkened to a cinnamon-brown, is only half-present, though his repartee with the kids is still terrifically warm. Episode 7 finds Buffy nursing a broken leg (for a script apparently whipped up on the spot when Jones broke her leg in real-life). Episode 5 has Jody being wrongly accused of breaking a school window and getting suspended (not Jody!!). Episode 4 has Cissy (temporarily) leaving home. Number 2 sees a visit from Uncle Bill's pal (Dana Andrews) who spent five years in prison! Number 19 has Buffy and Jody coming into a surprise inheritance of $54.00 (which they take to the local toy store--stocked with a heap of now-collectable goodies). And 25 & 26 have the Davises vacationing in Tahiti, where Cissy falls in love with married man Michael Blodgett. Many wonderful memories and laughs in this sensitive, lightly funny '60's gem! Thanks to the website "Apartment 27A" for the episode list, which they count as 26 episodes for the season.

Big Comfy Couch: Upside Down Clown (Vol. 5) (2005) Review

Big Comfy Couch: Upside Down Clown (Vol. 5) (2005)

My daughters, 2 and 4 years, love the show even though they do not understand English. They need minimal translation because the acting makes it easy to understand what is going on. My children have learned some English words and they show much more intrest in cleaning up their room. They could watch it for the whole day but I only allow 2-3 hours of TV. I highly recomend this show.

The Locket (2002) Review

This movie, based on Richard Paul Evans' novel, pleasantly exceeded my expectations. Vanessa Redgrave's performance captured the essence of Esther Huish's character. What a heartwarming story line that reminds us of power of love but also the unfortunate dark sides of humanity. I would highly recommend this movie for any Richard Paul Evans fans or Hallmark Hall of Fame movie collectors. I am glad this is movie can be purchased, as I have been searching for it ever since seeing it on television.

The Bill Engvall Show: The Complete First Season (2008) Review

The Bill Engvall Show: The Complete First Season (2008)
Average Reviews:

We really enjoy Bill Envall's comedy, but living in the UK, we get to see precious little of his work. So we were pleased to see he had his own series available on DVD and weren't disappointed. It's great fun, with really likeable characters - this is well observed comedy and anyone with teenage kids will recognise many of the situations. It started slowly in the early episodes, but got better and better and it's just a shame that there were only 8 episodes in series 1. It left us really wanting more!
I read that the show has just started a second series on TV in the US, so hopefully there will be more episodes to enjoy this year and roll on the release of series 2 on DVD so that we can enjoy it here in the UK too!
Well done Bill.

Set in a Denver suburb, THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW stars comedian Bill Engvall (Blue Collar Comedy) as Bill Pearson, a family counselor whose own family could maybe use a little dose of counseling. He works with dysfunctional families all day and comes home to what he sees as perfection, but in reality they are somewhat absurd, unpredictable and just as mixed up as any other family. Nancy Travis (Becker) plays his witty and loving wife, Susan, who tries to keep the family in line. Bill and Susan keep busy raising their teenage daughter, Lauren, and sons Trent, a sports and video game enthusiast, and Bryan, a musically talented neat freak with a pet snake. The kids love their parents but also know how to manipulate them. Also adding to the family dynamic is Bills mother, an outrageous senior with the energy of a teenager. Comedic actors Tim Meadows and Steve Hytner round out the cast as Bill's closest friends.
