This is just a note to people considering buying "Star Trek: Enterprise The Complete Seasons 1-4" on DVD from certain Amazon sellers.
If you see the Star Trek: Enterprise DVD collection in a single box rather than in four separate boxes (one box per season), it's likely an Asian import edition rather than from the studio.
Especially beware the appellation "the Chosen Collection" which was copied from the complete collector's edition of Joss Whedon's TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Buffy "Chosen Collection" is official while the Star Trek: Enterprise "Chosen Collection" is not.
Furthermore, if the DVD set mentions it's region free, then it almost certainly is an Asian import, because the studio does not have a region free version of Star Trek: Enterprise on DVD (at the time of this review).
It's true the Asian import edition will be considerably cheaper, and as I mentioned region free, but there are drawbacks as well. For example, the audio and video quality suffers relative to the regular edition. Also, if there's a scratch or other slight defect on one of the DVDs, most of the sellers won't refund the buyer's money or replace the DVD(s). Some might, but it could be tricky (and perhaps despite their claims to the contrary). Not to mention that purchasing an Asian import means the money goes to the Asian distributor and its affiliates rather than to, say, the cast or crew or anyone else on the actual production team -- which in turn could presumably be funneled into bringing back Star Trek (although it's debatable).
And please make sure to read Oren D. Applequist's helpful comment below regarding World Express Mail Service (EMS).
Anyway, obviously people are free to do what they like, but I'm mentioning all this so buyers can at least be aware of the risks.

How William Shatner Changed the World (2005) Review

In it, William Shatner hosts an hour-long program about how the technology and ideas presented in classic Star Trek have affected both real-world technology and our ideas about what is possible in the future. Footage of the erstwhile Captain Kirk goofing on his own image (that guy has very possibly the BEST sense of humor about himself of any celebrity) is intercut with interviews and documentary-style footage (narrated by Shatner, of course) of real scientists and engineers (many of whom, you will be unsurprised to learn, were inspired as youngsters by the original Star Trek series). The result is an informative, funny and often inspiring view of what it REALLY means to live "in the future."
It's good to be reminded that the lives we live now used to be someone else's future, and the future we look forward to is a place where people are going to live.
Highly recommended.

Mind Meld - Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)Nimoy and Shatner, sitting around and discussing their careers and mutual friendship. At first, one might think that this disc would be a boring, PC rehash of info all Trek fans have heard about a million times over. No so!
The actors discuss personal issues both on set and off, failed marriages, alcoholism, and other events they were affected by both during Trek and post-Trek. Much of the discussion is about things even the most hard-core fans had never known about until now.
Even the rest of the famous sci-fi cast comes in for scrutiny, as the two Titans of Trek discuss why they aren't close to the supporting cast. Shatner and Nimoy candidly talk about the animosity from the other actors, animosity that Shatner finds himself puzzled by.
But it doesn't stop there. They also talk about their different acting approaches; Nimoy, consumed by character, Shatner, turning character on and off like a switch. I found this a particularly interesting insight into the two men, and the characters they played. Nimoy really does embody some of the Spock intellect, artistry, professionalism, and inner turmoil. Shatner really does embody a Kirk-like energy and zest for life, almost gung ho in his attempt to have it all. Nimoy at peace with himself, Shatner still reaching for the brass ring.
One annoying curiosity is that, although dedicated to him at the end, there is little or no discussion about the late DeForest Kelley. A similar annoyance was pervasive in Shatner's recent Trek book, "Get a Life!", which supposedly covered Trek conventions and the cast's reaction to them. Kelley's views were noticably absent.
It could be that the men wanted to focus on their personal relationship here, or that they weren't all that close to the late actor. What they do say about the third corner of the famous Trek Triad of Kirk, Spock and McCoy is very interesting, but still, I have to wonder why Kelley wasn't just a little bit more prominent in proceedings.
If the film fails, it fails only in that it is all too short. There just seemed to be so much that could still be said, still be revealed about both Trek, the actors, the classic cast, and how Nimoy and Shatner really feel about the New Treks. Perhaps a sequel or limited series of these type of discussions would be a possibility. However, this is a rare glimpse at the two actors and their relationship, a private glimpse into that which we, the audience and fans, are intruders into. As such, we should be grateful for this interesting peek we are allowed at the two stars of "Star Trek".

Star Trek Enterprise - The Complete Fourth Season (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)The fourth season of Star Trek Enterprise was the season that most Trekkers have been waiting for, with homages to the original series(Mirror Universe,The Eugenics Wars,Orion slave women,T'Pau), as well as rectifying continuety errors(The Vulcans,The Klingon "forehead" issue).Unfortunately,the show was cancelled prematurely as the show was becoming what Trekkers been waiting for since "Broken Bow".
One of the biggest contributing factors for the success of the fourth season was supervising producer Manny Coto,an original series fanatic who brought Enterprise back on the right tracks as far back as season three.Sensing that the show wasn't going to see a fifth season,Executive producer Rick Berman handed the reins to Coto, who set about in correcting the many elements in Trek history that have been disregarded,which drove away even the most dedicated fan.
The season's format was tweaked to make room for multi episode arcs which dealt separately with The Eugenics Wars(The Augment trilogy featuring Brent Spiner as Arik Soong),A Vulcan Civil War(featuring Surak, and T'Pau),A Klingon Virus (resulting in the humanoid Klingon foreheads from the original series), and the mirror universe featuring the USS Defiant from The Tholian Web.
One of the biggest disappointments of the season itself was the final episode "..These Are The Voyages" which takes place on the Enterprise-D, featuring Riker and Troi.Instead of giving the NX-01 crew a dignified send off,they were used supporting characters in a glorified "Next Generation" episode.
The finale (written by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga) was called a "Valentine to the fans".But the real valentine was the entire fourth season which finally gave the fans what they wanted,and the most problematic Star Trek series a dignified ending, dispite it's weak finale.

Shockwave Part II
Archer is taken 900 years into the future by Crewman Daniels and becomes stuck there.

Carbon Creek
T'pol tells Archer and Trip about her great-grandmother's accidental crash landing on Earth in the late 1950's The story is shown in flashbacks

Minefield
The Enterprise becomes trapped in an alien minefield later revealed to have been built by the Romulans.

Dead Stop
The Enterprise encounters an automated repair station and when they dock with it to make repairs, trouble starts

A Night in Sickbay
Archer's dog, Porthos becomes very ill and Archer stays with him in sickbay

Mauraders
The Enterprise is low on deuterium fuel and sets down at a station but the managers say that they don't have enough. It is learned that the Klingons stole much of it

The Seventh
T'Pol is asked by the Vulcan High Command to locate and capture Menos, a Vulcan criminal who has been on the run for many years.

The Communicator
When a communicator is left behind on an alien planet, Archer and Reed are imprisoned while attempting to reclaim it.

Singularity
While observing a trinary star system, various members of the crew are working on a variety of tasks from substituting of an ill chef, to building a new captain's chair.

Vanishing Point
Hoshi begins to believe that she is dead after using the transporter for the first time

Precious Cargo
When a group of aliens bring aborad a woman in a stasis pod, Trip's curiosity leads him to open it. The woman inside awakens and says she is being abducted.

Catwalk
A radioactive stellar phenomenon is headed for the ship and the crew must take cover for more than a week inside the shielded warp nacelles.

Dawn
Trip is attacked while alone in a shuttlepod and has to land on a moon. He subsequently gets stalked on the surface

Stigma
T'pol learns that she has become infected with a communicable disease that is only spread by mind-melding, a forbidden practice among her people. Her job is endangered as a result.

Cease Fire
The Vulcans and Andorians are involved in a territorial dispute that is in danger of becoming an armed conflict. Archer is sent in to arbitrate for them.

Future Tense
The Enterprise encounters a small ship with a dead human aboard but the Suliban and the Tholians both claim it for their own. When it is learned that the ship is fromt he future, Archer is forced to stop them from taking it.

Canamar
Archer and Tucker are mistakenly believed to be smugglers and arrested. They are then put on a ship headed for a penal colony

The Crossing
The Enterprise becomes engulfed in a nebula inhabited by aliens that want to exchange minds with the crew

Judgement
Archer is arrested by the Klingons and put on trial facing a life sentance at Rura Penthe

Horizon
The Enterprise meets up with the ship that Maywather was raised on and he spends time on his old ship.

The Breach
The Enterprise assists in the evacuation of Denobulan geologists from a planet undergoing a military coup d'etat. Several rescuers become trapped in the caves with the scientists and the Enterprise has a short time to leave before being shot at.

Cogenitor
The Enterprise is visiting with a group of alien scientists but Tucker becomes too curious about the species' third gender.

Regeneration
An team of scientists in the Arctic discover the remains of a Borg sphere and two frozen Borg but they reactivate, asimilates the team and takes their ship. The Enterprise is called in to stop them.

Bounty
A Tellarite bounty hunter kidnaps Archer and intends to take him to the Klingons who put a big price on his head.

The Expanse
After an alien probe launches a devastating attack on Earth killing millions, the Enterprise is called to search for the attackers. Silik returns and offers to help Archer find them. It is learned that a race called the Xindi are responsible and doing so because they were told that humanity would destroy them in the future.

The final episode of season 2 kicks off the season long story arc on finding the Xindi that concludes at the beginning of season 4

Star Trek Fan Collective - Borg (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)Designed for "Trek" fans who don't want to purchase (or like myself can't afford) to buy all the of the boxed sets for all the Trek series, "Star Trek: Fan Collective Borg" Assembles 14 of the finest episodes produced by the "Trek" franchise. This set features episodes voted on at the Startrek.com website by fans. Running chronologically the set begins with the "Enterprise" episode "Regeneration" where the survivors of the Borg sphere destroyed in the film "Star Trek: First Contact" are discovered buried in the ice by a group of Federation scientists. Captain Archer (Scott Bakula) must deal with this unknown menace as the Borg proceed to try take a Federation vessel and assimilate his doctor. Next we get "Q Who?" the episode that introduced the Borg. The all powerful Q challenges Captain Picard's assertive statement that they don't need his help to get out of jams by flinging them across the galaxy to their first encounter with the Borg. Unprepared, outgunned and with the Enterprise being carved apart by the Borg Picard must decide whether or not he wants to swallow his pride and call on Q to help them escape. "The Best of Both Worlds" is a two part episode and, perhaps, Next Gen's finest hour. Written by the late Michael Piller, the Borg finally arrive and begin assimiliating entire worlds as they move towards Earth. Picard and his crew must stop the Borg but not before a key member of the Enterprise crew is kidnapped and turned into a Borg against his will threatening the Federation and all of humanity!
"I Borg" humanizes the Borg a bit. The Enterprise receives a distress call and when they arrive to help they discover the lone survivor of a crashed ship is a Borg Drone. As he spends time with the crew he wants to explore his individuality. Picard is torn because Star Fleet wants to use "Hugh" as a weapon to destroy the collective. "Descent" is another two part episode in which Lore Data's "brother" trains Borg cut off from the collective to serve him. It seems that Picard's plan to reintroduce Hugh the young Borg they saved in "I Borg" has worked all too well introducing the concept of individuality but at a terrible cost.
The Voyager episodes featuring the Borg were among the finest the show produced. Starting with "Scorpion" we're introduced to 7 of 9 (Jeri Ryan)and a war brewing between Species 8472 creatures from fluidic space (from another dimension)as alien as the crew has ever encountered. Janeway agrees to help the Borg develop a weapon against the creatures in return for safe passage through the quadrant. When the crew terminate their agreement with the Borg 7 of 9 is trapped aboard Voyager. She slowly begins to rediscover her humanity. In "Drone" A transporter accident causes the advanced circutry of the doctor's mobile emitter to combine with Borg technology creating an advanced drone who calls himself One. In the two part "Dark Frontier" Captain Janeway decides to steal a transwarp coil from a Borg ship that would allow them to get home faster. 7 of 9 volunteers for the mission but elects to stay with the Borg. In "Unimatrix Zero" 7 of 9 discovers there's a collective "dream" where Borg meet to explore their individuality. Her involvement with these people threatens Voyager. In the final two hour grand finale for Voyager "Endgame" Admiral Janeway travels back to the past to offer Captain Janeway technology from the future that will allow Voyager to get home quicker. While her reasons for doing so are somewhat mysterious Captain Janeway accepts her offer. Unfortunately the Borg detect the technology and want it for themselves.
This set has text commentary tracks on "The Best of Both Worlds Parts 1 & 2" by Michael and Denise Okuda as well as on "Unimatrix Zero Part 2". There's also the original commentary track by writers Mike Sussman and Phyllis Strong on "Regeneration". There aren't any featurettes or documentaries on this set. A pity that there aren't any audio commentary tracks for the other "Next Generation" episodes. You'll notice that there aren't any "Deep Space: Nine" episodes here because the Borg didn't really appear on the show.
This is a great place to get your "Star Trek" fix with the show's most memorable villans. Image quality varies quite a bit as these feature the exact same transfers as the original boxed sets but overall they look pretty good. Only "Enterprise" is presented in widescreen and actually looks the best of all the series here simply because it's the most recent.

The Borg Fan Collection has the top ten most popular Borg episodes as picked by the fans! Witness all the characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Enterprise and Voyager as they defend their ships, galaxies, and their own kind. For thousands of years the Borg have been spreading throughout the galaxy, conquering, assimilating and thus destroying countless civilizations. Following every encounter, the Borg catalogue each new species with a numerical designation instead of a proper name. The goal of the Borg, in most cases, is to completely assimilate each species by incorporating their knowledge and technology into the unified Borg Collective. One by one, each living being is converted into Borg Drones. In many cases, all that remains of an assimilated civilization is the memory of its unique contributions that now resides only within the accumulated knowledge of the Borg. That and the numerical species designation. Often even the name is lost, forgotten or deleted as irrelevant. Star Trek Fan Collective - Captain's Log (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)I was eagerly looking forward to this collection for months! The episodes chosen are all excellent episodes and, for the most part, exemplify the Captain in question (though Patrick Stewart admits on his introduction that he chose "In Theory", a Data episode, because it was his directorial debut).
With Deep Space Nine being my personal favorite of the series, which has often been only minimally-represented by previous Fan Collectives, it was gratifying to see three of my favorite episodes from this excellent series chosen, including the 2-for-1 series finale.
My only complaint, as with the previous four Fan Collectives, was the limited number of episodes. Granted the Q set was as complete as it could be (save for the vague possible connection with "The Squire of Gothos") and there were only a few later Voyager Borg-episodes that might have fit with the Borg set. Still, the Klingon and Time Travel sets could easily have been twice as large (and I would have been willing to pay twice as much if they were) and so could the Captain's Log set.
Still, this set not only features great episodes but finally has some featurettes in addition to them, though I did miss the witty and enjoyable text commentaries of the prior sets.
If you're a Star Trek fan strapped for cash, or a newcomer looking for a relatively inexpensive way to get to know these fine series, I would highly recommend the Star Trek Fan Collective: Captain's Log.
If any higher-ups in charge of such things somehow wanders here, by all means keep these sets coming! We still need Volumes 2 of the Klingon and Time Travel sets, the Vulcan set, the Romulan set, the Ferengi set, the Prime Directive set, the Mirror Universe set...

Broken Bow
The crew of the Enterprise start their maiden voyage early to take a wounded Klingon back to his homeworld.
Fight or Flight
The crew encounter an alien ship with a bunch of dead bodies aboard. An alien ship later arrives and accuses the Enterprise crew of killing them.
Strange New World
Some of the crew land on an uninhabited planet. When they begin to see strange things, they feel that they are being watched.
Unexpected
When the crew visit an alien ship, Trip's encounter with a female on board results in him becoming pregnant.
Terra Nova
The Enterprise crew visit an outpost colonized by humans only to discover that they reverted to a primitive state.
The Andorian Incident
The crew visit a Vulcan monastery and the Andorians later enter and accuse the Vulcans of spying on them.
Breaking the Ice
The Enterprise encounters a comet and Archer sends a team down to explore, when they become trapped, a passing Vulcan ship offers to help.
Civilization
The Enterprise meets a primitive alien race that is suffering from a disease and the crew offer to help.
Fortunate Son

A non-humanoid alien comes aboard the Enterprise and starts attacking crewmembers. Hoshi attempts to learn the alien's language so she can communicate with it.
Fallen Hero
The Enterprise crew are assigned to transport the Vulcan ambassador to be questioned about alleged misdeeds.
Desert Crossing
Archer and Trip is invited to an alien world by a man who unbeknownst to them, is a terrorist.

Two Days and Two Nights
The Enterprise crew take shore leave on Risa
Shockwave part I
The Enterprise is recalled after apparently causing the destruction of an alien colony, on their way back they are attacked by the Suliban and Crewman Daniels returns telling archer that the timeline was altered.
This overall is a great season and it is such a shame that ther series was cancelled so early.

Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner (Uncensored) (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I was so anxious for this this roast to be released. Yeh, it's a blast to see Shatner talking trash and getting trashed. But that 1 minute little piece of film with Nimoy and Shatner that opened the show IS NOT THERE !!!!!!!!!!
WHY THE &*%$# NOT?
That one single minute is a brilliant little bit of comedy, brilliantly executed by two people who have been known for their love/hate relationship, and absolutely worth the price of admission. I would buy a DVD of that bit alone. I am sorely dissapointed.

Star Trek Fan Collective - Klingon (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent collection covering Trek lore about the Klingons from "Enterprise" through to "Voyager". It is missing some key episodes for example the episode from "Enterprise" where we find out how the Klingons lost the bumps on their heads for a long period of time (during the original "Star Trek")and since this is a four disc set it could have been filled out with a few more episodes from "Deep Space Nine". While I'm not disappointed in this set it could have included quite a few more episodes including "Day of the Dove" a classic third season episode of The Original Series.
The episodes for this set are as follows:
Enterprise: Broken Bow. Captain Archer and the new crew of Enterprise are charged with returning a Klingon with information that could avert a war. The Sooliban an alien speices involved with a temporal war has been charged with stopping Archer and killing the Klingon.
Star Trek The Original Series: Errand of Mercy.
Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are trapped on an alien world of pacificist by invading Klingons where they were trying to convince the aliens to join the Federation. Kirk and Spock use terrorist tactics to try and create a revolt among the aliens not knowing that they have their own agenda.
The Trouble with Tribbles: Klingons show up at a space station where the Enterprise is protecting a grain shipment. The Klingons and the Enterprise crew come into conflict on the station while Kirk has to figure out how to best protect the important grain shipment.
ST: THe Next Generation: A Matter of Honor, Sins of the Father, Redemption Part 1 & 2
These four important Next Gen episode provide us with a unique glimpse into the Klingon mind and universe. Commander Riker serves on a Klingon ship as part of an officer exchange program. When the captain of the Pagh suspects that the Enterprise deliberately infected his ship with a corrosive bacteria he decides to attack Enterprise.
"Sins of the Father": Enterprise receives a Klingon exchange officer who claims to be Worf's brother. He tells Worf that their name is about to shamed and that their deceased father is to be labeled a traitor for the massacre at Khitomer. Worf must turn to Captain Picard to be his advocate with the Klingon High Counsel to save his honor.
"Redemption Parts 1 & 2": Two the best Next Gen episodes featuring the Klingons, this two part episode serves as sequels to "Sins of the Father". Worf's family was discommendated by the Klingon High Counsel. When the new emperor Gowron insists on Federation involvement Picard turns him down he refuses to help restore Worf's family name. Civil War breaks out among the Klingons and Worf elects to serve with Gowron and battle the faction trying to take down Gowron.
Deep Space Nine: "The Way of the Warrior","The Sword of Kahless", "Trials and Tribble-ations". Three strong episodes from DS9 the last one is a whimsical visit to "Star Trek: The Original Series" where the crew of the Defiant must travel back in time to stop a Klingon saboteur from changing history in the episode "The Trouble with Tribbles".Star Trek Voyager: "Barge of the Dead". When Torres is injured in a shuttle accident she finds herself on the Barge of the Dead traveling to Gre'thor or Klingon Hell where the dishonored souls go.
I suspect we'll have the usual assortment of text commentary from Michael and Denise Okuda. I wouldn't expect any audio commentaries on this set however. The package design featuring a prominet picture of Worf is similar to the other fan collectives that have been released. The "Enterprise" episodes are in widescreen, the others are all full screen releases. The image quality will reflect the individual sets these are drawn from as Paramount is using the same transfers as the boxed sets.

(More customer reviews)I was pleasantly surprised by this. The product details don't mention it at all, but this IS a "thinpaks" release. The set contains all episodes of seasons 1-5 on 50 discs in 25 dual-disc thinkpaks, packaged in a sturdy, cardboard box. The box is much smaller than the Amazon product photo makes it appear. Placed sideways on your bookshelf it will take up less room than the First Season box set. The artwork on the outer sleeves of each thinpak is the same as previous releases. Artwork on the spines of all thinpaks, when viewed together, portray the Amdromeda Ascendant comin' at ya! The discs in this collection are single-sided, unlike the double-sided discs in the 2-5 season box sets. The content and episodes on the discs are the same as in previous releases. If you already own the previous releases, this may not interest you much. However, if you didn't like the double-sided discs of the season 2-5 sets and would like the space this set will save on your shelves, it IS worth getting.

(More customer reviews)I have seen a lot of the episodes of `Strong Medicine' on Lifetime, and I feel that it is one of the most underrated TV shows being show today. It is a great show that portrays hope, life, relationships, and emotions in each episode. I am glad that this show is finally releasing on DVD, as we can get to watch the series from the beginning.
The story mainly revolves around Dr. Lu Delgado and Dr. Dana Stowe, two women who have nothing in common with each other, except for their passions in the field of work. They work in the Rittenhouse Women's Health Clinic, where they face new challenges, and solve new problems from performing plastic surgery to treating HIV positive patients. This DVD set contains the first 22 episodes of Season 1, which are:

Not only is this show moving, but you also learn something in each episode. Developed by Whoopi Goldberg and created by Tammy Ader, `Strong Medicine' has won numerous awards. Rosa Blasi (who plays Dr. Lu Delgado) won an Imagen Award for Best Actress in a Drama series. I doubt this DVD set will contain any special features, except for the standard ones like languages, and subtitles, but nevertheless, it is worth buying this DVD just to see the episodes.
Being sweet and sour at times, `Strong Medicine' is a wonderful drama that will definitely make you feel better.
