I have a lot of friends into Scifi but for some reason they don't like Andromeda. I tell them give it a chance as even though its can be really campy at times, it can be real good television as well.
Andromeda 1.3 we start to see the crew really starting to work together on the screen. What makes this show work is how comfortable all the actors are with each other.
Each TV series has some shows that are not great. Seinfeld might be expection, but "Music Of a Distant Drum" the first show on the second disc was plain boring. Tyr character didn't get much development in this episode. The lady who takes him in is just plain awful, and her son is no better.
This disc does have 2 GREAT [5] star shows. One "The Mathmatics Of Tears" has simply one of the best action scenes of any Scifi TV show I have seen in awhile. What I love about series TV is the little hints here and there. We all know Becca Valentine has the hots for Dylan and when Dylan is being courted so to speak by a HOT Highguard from the past Becca gives those jealous looks.
Haper 2.0 is simply one termendous. Its was nice to see Harper get a chance to shine. The moment when he goes off on Rev Bem (My personal favorite character) is very emotional. Here they lay the foundation of a main heavy of sorts which the series needed. What Andromeda needs is one anti force that is always causing them trouble every other episode.
I highly recommend this series. The pilot is not great, but once you get passed that it really starts to come into its own as a series and you will start to truly care about these characters. I am already into the Trance-Harper love storyline. Hopefully a bone with be thrown in there later in the series.

For a show with a low budget, Season # 5 has plenty of creativity. The writing is very good, the stories are interesting and well conected to the bible of the show.
The actors are very good and Kevin Sorbo is amazing!
It's been a pleasure watching, indeed.
Thank you, guys!

Part 2 of the Andromeda Saga, and it's a great ride. Video is sharp, audio is crisp, and its easy to navigate. Andromeda without commercials is definately the way to see it.
The down side? No closed captioning (really helpful when trying to steal a few minutes while the baby sleeps) and not enough commentary (only on 1 episode out of 5?? Come on, Kevin, you can talk more than that!!)
All in all, a definite buy for the sci-fi fan; and not bad for anyone else.

Talent really fell into the black hole with this one. Andromeda was never an intellectual show, but it was entertaining and humorous, which made it enjoyable nonetheless. I personally didn't care for the ending of season 4; Dylan Hunt's rise to near-godhood was so self-indulgent.
Season 5 was just horrible. The writing and directing were mindless. The same pointless, poorly-choreographed fighting that plagued Hercules was too abundant throughout the season. Every episode seemed to have a drunk picking a fight with one of the crew for no reason, just so Dylan or Becka or whoever could prove their fortitude. It was painful to watch the story go absolutely nowhere every episode - in the same terrible sets. The plots were just so circuitous with no payoff.
Astronomical bodies being represented by avatars? Becka the matriarch of the Nietzschean race via a time-traveling Drago? A black hole in love with Dylan? Too many lame ideas and twists being pulled out of too many you-know-whats. Everybody knew the show was coming to an end and stopped trying.

Andromeda - Season 2 Collection (2000)

Andromeda is a fun show. It doesn't have characters in the sense of "character study", it has characters in the sense of "Boy, that guy is a character". Dylan, Beka, purple Trance, Rommy and Tyr are all fascinating to me, and Harper makes me smile every time he opens his mouth. There isn't really a lot of introspection or moral dilemmas going on here. Everyone knows what they want, and they are all trying to out-maneuver each other into getting it. Andromeda is the anti-Buffy.

Season 2 adds a bit of wire-fu to the show (to great effect in the Matrix-y episode "All Too Human") and the special effects team seem to have gotten a great deal on sparklers. There are still lots of Nietzschian machinations, and Tyr and Dylan go head to head a few times, including in what is probably the best episode of the series, "The Prince". There is also quite a bit of continuity in the episodes, and minor points in one show becomes the focus of another.

Trance makes a change for the serious, and the writers finally figure out what to do with Rev (ship him out).

ADV perpetually overcharges for all their single-episode disks. I have long given up buying them, and instead wait (and wait...) for the box sets. Note that in this set, you get 5 double-sided disks instead of the 10 single sided disks you would have if you bought them individually. It doesn't match the first season set, but it does save a bit of shelf space. The user interface is a lot better, but now the disk is front-loaded with commercials.

This ia great DVD loved the interview with Kevin and the bloopers/outakes with Lisa, as well as all the other extras. Looking forward to seeeing the next DVD. I have collected Andromeda since it first came out on DVD and will continue to do so. Andromeda is so refreshing. The actors especially Kevin are great, as are the writers. The worlds they take us into are so believable and for an hour you get lost in their adventures. Andromeda is a must for any DVD collection.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. The product details don't mention it at all, but this IS a "thinpaks" release. The set contains all episodes of seasons 1-5 on 50 discs in 25 dual-disc thinkpaks, packaged in a sturdy, cardboard box. The box is much smaller than the Amazon product photo makes it appear. Placed sideways on your bookshelf it will take up less room than the First Season box set. The artwork on the outer sleeves of each thinpak is the same as previous releases. Artwork on the spines of all thinpaks, when viewed together, portray the Amdromeda Ascendant comin' at ya! The discs in this collection are single-sided, unlike the double-sided discs in the 2-5 season box sets. The content and episodes on the discs are the same as in previous releases. If you already own the previous releases, this may not interest you much. However, if you didn't like the double-sided discs of the season 2-5 sets and would like the space this set will save on your shelves, it IS worth getting.

Andromeda - Season 4 Collection (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although this particular run of Andromeda does not feature as much of the struggle as was felt in seasons 1, 2 and 3, it does feature all of the elements which made the series enjoyable. There is lots of campy dialogue, lots of space battles, and lots of sci fi fun. However, by this point the series assumes that viewers are knowledgable about the show. From the beginning, the season begins to tackle long unanswered questions about the series, revealing such secrets as the true origins of Bekka, Trance and Tyr. For thos who have never seen the show, I recommend that you purchase seasons 1 or 2. For fans of the series, I highly recommend this addition to your collection.
The season starts with the exit of Tyr, and the first four episodes without him are a little shaky. Fans of Harper will enjoy watching Harper trudge his way through away missions with Romy and Bekka. This is fun because Harper had previously been left behind on the ship in most episodes before this season.
Fans of the series will remember that Rev Bem left the series midway through season 3, so the show lost two of its male characters. The early episodes of the show then allow Harper to step up and take a more commanding role in the series. Evidently, this didn't sit so well with producers, who then added Telemachus Rhade to the cast.
Telemachus Rhade is a direct descendant of Gaheris Rhade, the dude who betrayed Captain Hunt in Episode 1. Thanks to Season 3's "the Unconquerable Man", we have been led to understand that Gaheris is in fact, an honorable man, and therefore, we can trust his descendant. IHMO, the addition of this new character helps this series immensly.
Played by Steve Bacic, Rhade's tortured sense of need to evolve as a Nietzchien instantly gives us a peek into an impressive but troubled character.
Tyr makes a comeback in two of the Rhade episodes as a dreadlock-less slave to the Abyss. Tyr and Rhade make for some tremendous fight scenes, and we say goodbye to Tyr in a way that kept me waiting for his return.
Trance really comes into her own this season, and the revelations made about Bekka's past help to fill out her character.
As for the special features, you probably saw all this stuff when it came out on individual dvd sets. Still, some interviews, behind the scenes, bloopers and deleted scenes will keep most fans happy. Also, there is an alternative ending to the season, to my understanding something they wrote with the thought that the show may be cancelled at the end of the fourth season (I have no way of confirming this right now, sorry) .
My only complaint with this and all the other Andromeda DVD sets is that the sound is never in Dolby 5.1. It is in Dolby surround sound, but you'd think they'd be able to add that feature without difficulty.
However, these are small complaints about a great overall set.
4 out of 5 stars.

Andromeda Season 4 Collection 1 (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The first 5 episodes of season 4 are a great disappointment. Like the tinny music that is suppose to heighten the drama, all the episodes are 'out of tune' so to speak. Perhaps it is because the episodes are about 40 minutes a piece, but it all seems to be sped up.
The element of drama is missing. Andromeda has always had humor and it is not a heavy SciFi program, but these shows have no drama or tension. In one episode, the ship Andromeda is going to crash into a moon. The crew must blow up two devices on the moon that are causing this crisis. However, it all seems to be a lark for the crew. Becka and Harper go off to scavenge another crashed ship and the mad genius villian can't figure out that there are explosives on his key weapons.
The villians are all controlled by the Magog 'Deity' whose only desire is to kill Dylan Hunt. If the Magog Diety can control all these people across vast distances of space, why can it not kill Dylan. There are more inconsistencies. Harper somehow now has a mother. I thought his parents died. Andromeda is not a show you watch for logic, but it normally keeps to the story line.
Dylan is diminished and Becka is just now silly. I even found it hard to understand what had just happened in parts.
Hopefully the series will improve.

I like every episode on this volume, my favorite is a tie between the Flash Episode and the final episoade of the first season. I thought that in the first season the show hit full stride about half way through and contiued on. Star crossed lovers is pretty good also, seeing the more human side to the Rommie character was well done. All things considered, very nicely done and if you like sci fi then you should like the volume. The picture is great, the extras are fine, the menus are very good and the plot can be follwed. However if you have not seen the show before, I would get the first and last volumes of season one so you understand the situation. For all the other Andromeda regulars, you should be please with what you have here.

The Editorial Review for this DVD is misleading. The DVD actually contains Season 2, episodes 210 through 214. The Editorial Review alludes to episode 210, "The Prince," but doesn't list it by number. On the copy I got, episodes 210-214 *are* all there.
As for an actual review, if you like Andromeda, and are collecting Andromeda DVDs, this is a must-have. A lot of plotlines pivotal to Season 2 are continued or even completed in this set. I highly recommend it to fans of Andromeda, particularly fans of the first two seasons, where the plot lines were carried over from episode to episode. This is the middle of Season 2, when the show was still getting better and better. For the record, Andromeda has made me a HUGE fan of Keith Hamilton Cobb, who plays Tyr, and I intend to follow his future endeavors closely. What a talent!

Persuaded by beautiful Elsbett, Dylan agrees to fight the Dragans in alliance with the Sabra-Jaguar Pride. Meanwhile, Harper and Rommie head for Earth to help Harper’s cousin in a courageous revolution against Dragan slavers. "Ouroboros" (Episode 212) A machine designed to rid Harper of the Magog larvae wrecks havoc on Andromeda by jumbling space and time. Past, present, and future collide, causing sudden appearances of Dylan’s old crew, alien attackers, and most mysterious… a Future Trance, older, wiser and much more dangerous! I never took the Andromeda series very seriously, even though I'm an avid Trek fan. Watching one every now and then but not being very entertained. Getting over the captain is not easy for most people and it's what turned me off to the show as well. It was this disk that made me take a second look at the series as a whole.
"Tunnel At The End Of The Light" is a slight rip-off of Predator, but hardly a bad one. And by the end, it's taken in a very original direction. If you can get over Sorbo and be entertained by a decent "space-show", Andromeda may be for you. Harper gives excellent comic relief and Rommie is just friggin sexy. The stories are not bad once you give them a chance, and for the most part, original. Graphics are fantastic, even if they are re-used and altered from time to time.

310 Unconquerable Man presents a different and unique take on the series so far. I found this extremely enjoyable. We find the what life would have been like if Rhade had survived and not Dylan. We go back over several key events reliving them with Rhade as captain.
311 Delenda Est has a scene early on where Rommie asks if Harper installed a way to take control of her without her knowing. Interesting question. He will give an answer. The disappearing aliens return and I just enjoyed this episode battling against them. Perhaps it was Dylan's and Tyr's exchange of banter. I found myself thinking that Tyr really should be with Dylan and the crew.

This is not so much a review as an explanation of the "error" described in the prior review posted by another customer. There is not really an "error" on the part of the manufacturer, but rather confusion in the way our partners at Amazon.com have chosen to list the products.
I have tried to explain this "problem" to Amazon's customer service group before, but failed to get the point across.
The Andromeda series is being offered up in two separate DVD "formats", if you will... One being in "volumes" which contain two episodes on a single DVD and the other being "collections" containing four or five episodes on two DVD's.
Amazon has mis-matched these and the listing for "collection" number four shows the cover art for "volume" four - this is why the episodes don't match.
Since I could not get Amazon Customer Service to acknowledge the problem and tell me which was the collection and which was the volume, I just bought the title at my local Best Buy.
It turned out the collections were cheaper at BB and with no shipping charges.
