In it, William Shatner hosts an hour-long program about how the technology and ideas presented in classic Star Trek have affected both real-world technology and our ideas about what is possible in the future. Footage of the erstwhile Captain Kirk goofing on his own image (that guy has very possibly the BEST sense of humor about himself of any celebrity) is intercut with interviews and documentary-style footage (narrated by Shatner, of course) of real scientists and engineers (many of whom, you will be unsurprised to learn, were inspired as youngsters by the original Star Trek series). The result is an informative, funny and often inspiring view of what it REALLY means to live "in the future."
It's good to be reminded that the lives we live now used to be someone else's future, and the future we look forward to is a place where people are going to live.
Highly recommended.

Boston Legal - Season One (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been a Judge for the past 12 years. Often when selecting a jury the attorneys will ask the jurors "who watches Boston Legal?" Attorneys laugh and say "well this is not TV this is reality." I want to jump off the bench and yell "so is much of Boston Legal", but I can't.Boston Legal is a real hoot. For any attoney who has worked in a large law firm you can see many of the same people you work with in the Boston Legal characters. Denny Crane is the man and I can assure you that many of his likes exist in the legal system. They are a royal pain to Judges. You either love them or dislike them. Great story lines and wonderful casting keeps this Judge smiling.

Invasion Iowa (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)I first saw this when it aired on Spike TV several years ago and kept it on my TIVO for TWO YEARS until I had to switch to DirecTV and sorrowfully lost it.
Why do I love this reality TV sendup so much? (1) William Shatner is a sweetheart. I thought he'd be snarky but instead he (like all of us viewers) falls hard for the people of Riverside, Iowa. (2) Yes, the show manipulates situations for shock value but there's no cruelty or exploitation of the locals who are taken in by the premise (3) William Shatner is the first to laugh at himself and the comedy of his life as Kirk... which gives us license to do so, too and (4) The show is FREAKING HILARIOUS. I live in a multi-story home. My husband works in an office three stories above the TV room. While I watched this show, he had to come down and ask me why in hell I was laughing so hard.
