Showtime (Widescreen Edition) (2002)

In fact, just by watching the trailers you know what it's going to be about. It's about the pairing of two cops for a TV show. These cops are polar opposites of each other in terms of personality and skill. Each, however, complements the other towards the end, and they solve a big case.
Showtime was meant to be a action-comedy. There was a good mix of both. As usual, you see Eddie Murphy providing comic relief with what he says and does. His role as a patrolman and actor-wannabe lets him shine. He's constantly talking and screwing up. Robert de Niro plays the uptight stuck-up cop who hates change and people.
After a stressful day at work, this movie was great for relaxing and having a few laughs.
LEAP rating (each out of 5):
L (Language) - 3 (no unnecessary cursing)
E (Erotica) - 0 (no romance involved either)
A (Action) - 3 (very tame chase scenes, a lot of talking)
P (Plot) - 1 (non-existent, ok ok, it's very simple)

Robocop - Prime Directives - Meltdown (2001) Review

Robocop - Prime Directives - Meltdown (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In contrast to many other reviewers, I happen to think R2 has an astonishingly inventive script brimming with daring, dark satire. The satire is so dark however, that it challenges a viewer not to be merely "entertained", but enter into a dialogue with the film. I contend that R2 is in the tradition of such apocpalyptic satirical art as CLOCKWORK ORANGE and NAKED LUNCH which serve to warn humankind just where in hell its crazed heart may lead.
Unlike most mainstream Hollywood films, R2 is deeply critical of humanity and its resulting civilization -- starting with the harsh market-driven economy of winners and losers (it is no coincidence that both the drug trade and OCP bow to the same economic models). By depicting a world of such dire human/social affliction coupled with all the high-tech tools required to increase its profit (and anguish), R2 challenges the viewer to separate from this "humanity". Like the best satire, R2 exists to crack our rose-colored glasses, bloody our noses, and tell us what's wrong, so there is precious little "good" to root for in either old or new Detroit. What's at stake in R2 is simply keeping the flood of evil from drowning everything all at once.
The film's sharp satirical touches include: expanding the Reagan-era "privatizing" mania to that of OCP "owning" Detroit as a merciless send-up of free market philosophy; the 12-year old drug kingpin just a few tweaks from today's gun-toting teenaged gangbangers as a potent symbol for a suicidal civilization's nihilistic future; the telethon to "save" Detroit as a chilling parody of the fiscal/civil tensions between Democracy and Capitalism (in which, tellingly, the 12-year old drug dealer purchases Detroit's "freedom"); the designer drug, Nuke, as the corrupted escape-valve for society's traumatized, post-Ritalin citizens (and just wait until human genome research trickles down to the greed of the street); the domestication of Robocop into a platitude-whining ninny as a ridicule of pie-in-the-sky suburban values failing in a battlezone of urban realities (which the suburbanites' defection from the inner-city helped to create); and the Robocop 2 cyborg who sports a criminal mind determined as the best fit for our high-tech future. These and other barbs all serve to criticize society's faith that higher and higher technology will save us from human folly instead of high-tech being correctly seen as just the latest edition of that same human folly.
Yes, the script may superficially suffer from its demanding ambitions with perhaps one-too-many a sub-plot (screenwriter Frank Miller's graphic novel background pushes the envelope here), but R2's postcards-from-hell humor and prescient social criticism are the diamonds wrought from such risk. R2 is a wake-up call for a society increasingly divorced from nature: he who lives like a machine will die like a machine.

The Shield - The Complete First Season (2002)

I love this show! I first got into it after reading some of the reviews posted here on these Season One dvds, so I thought I would give it a try and I purchased this complete season. I am truly glad that I did. I was hooked from the first episode to the last and I am now watching Season 2 on FX. What makes this show far better than all the other cop shows is that the production value is more in line with HBO or a movie than a cable television show. The acting is extremely good as are the scripts and dialogue. Even though Vic and his team are labeled "dirty" cops you can't help but root for them in the end. Michael Chiklis deserved his Golden Globe award for best actor, he takes on this role as if Vic Mackey was himself in a former life. I was also glad this show won the award for best drama series on TV. If you haven't seen the show yet and are unsure if you would like it, give it a try. It's a bit brutal and graphic, but by the time you finish the final episode, "Circles," you will be speechless, praying to catch repeats of Season 2.

The Road to Justice will blow you away! Detective Vic Mackey is the leader of an elite Strike Team unit, a group of cops effective at eliminating crime but also operating under Vic's own set of rules. But his rules sometimes cross the fine line between legal and illegal. Now the precinct has a new captain who doesn't like Vic's tactics and wants to bust him off the force-even as he finds himself going to Vic for help whenever the going gets rough. There's a reason this show is on cable. It "takes the grit and reality of a 'Homicide' or 'Sopranos' to a whole nother level" (Newsday). "The Shield" also made Emmy history by earning the most nominations ever for a basic cable drama series, with Michael Chiklis winning the coveted Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Now's your chance to experience all the action and excitement of television's most controversial show . . . from the beginning

44 Minutes (2003) Review

44 Minutes (2003)
Average Reviews:

Watching '44 Minutes' is a strange experience to me. It begins with semi-documentary touch with the grainy images and the actors talking to the camera, but once the bank robbery happens, suddenly the made-for-TV film begins to look like the violent shoot-outs in `Heat.' Lots of bullets fly in the air, making huge holes in the bodies of the cars, and many people are gunned down in the street, police officers and civilians alike. Suppose someone tells you this is made for television, and it would take some time before you believe what is told.
Perhaps before the day February 28, 1997, story of '44 Minutes' would be almost unbelievable. Two robbers armed with AK-47s and covered with body armor go into the bank, and open fire on the outmatched police surrounding the building. The only way for the police officers to fight back is to shoot the head of the criminal, but shooting the moving target is extremely difficult. And as you see, standard 9 mm handgun is not the best choice to do that.
Though Michael Madsen, Ron Livingston and Mario van Peebles all give solid acting, it is the skillful editing and intense gunfights that are the most impressive in the film. The tension of the life-threatening situation is heightened by the good sound effect that conveys the firepower of AK-47s though the use of shaky camera would divide the opinions. Though some (including me) would say the shaky camera brings realism to the film, others would say it is only annoying.
Unfortunately, the characters do not have much time to tell us about themselves. It is understandable that we see no so-called character development as the film is based on the recent events and the real-life people, but the portraits of the LAPD officers here often look like those of the police dramas on TV. The script of Tim Metcalfe gets sometimes flat when it tells of the background story of each character, or Michael Madsen's character who does one thing to keep the loud party-giving neighbors very quiet. It is funny, and I like that scene, but well, is it true? I don't think so.
I don't know anything about the accuracy of the film, but as far as the heroism of the police officers are concerned, the film is a success with one of the intense and realistic shoot-outs I have ever seen recently. But with a less conventional and more detailed approach to the characterization of the brave officers, '44 Minutes' could be much better.

In North Hollywood on a calm summer day in 1997, fifty police officers were defenseless against two lone gunmen armed with AK 47 assault rifles and full military body armor. Only their extreme courage, valor and training put and end to the massacre inspiring a new motto for the L.A.P.D. - "The Day Willpower Beat Firepower." Based on the true story of the North Hollywood shootout.

Reno 911 - The Complete Third Season (Uncensored) (2003)

Comedy Central's Reno 911 is one of those rare shows that shouldn't work, and yet it surprisingly does. As the third season of the show opens, the inept officers of the Reno, Nevada sheriff's department are freed from prison and leading new lives, only to be re-united again and eventually re-instated as cops, much to their dismay. The improvised jokes and gags come as fast and furious as a long time fan of the show would come to expect, yet pretty much everything here still manages to feel fresh. Thomas Lennon (Dangle) and Robert Garant (Junior) are still the funniest attractions of Reno 911, and even when a new recruit (Mary Birdsong) joins the force, the show still keeps rolling along. There's plenty of other hilarity that ensues throughout the season, including Weigel (Kerry Kinney-Silver) planning to wed her serial killer boyfriend; not letting a little thing like him sitting on death row spoil her plans of matrimony. All in all, the third season of Reno 911 only improves everything that the surprising Comedy Central hit has laid out, and while these cops are definitely not the best, you can't deny that they're not the funniest.

Flashpoint - The First Season (2008) Review

Flashpoint - The First Season (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Let's keep the peace," is the catch-phrase uttered by team leaders as the Strategic Response Unit gears up for a hot call. It's hardly as adrenaline-inducing as "Let's roll," or "Lock and load," but I don't think it's supposed to be; in fact it sets the tone for the series. This cop drama is about saving lives and trying to bring sanity and compassion to out-of-control situations, not racking up a body count in the name of peace and justice.
Flashpoint is an undiscovered gem, hidden away behind a overused genre. If the phrases "SWAT team," "hostage negotiators," "Canadian television," and "police drama" don't exactly grab your interest, please do yourself the favor of at least reading this review and perhaps watching a couple of episodes. You might be glad you did.
The premise on its own is not terribly new: A fictional SWAT/hostage negotiation team takes on kidnappings, suicide attempts, bank robberies, and the like. What IS new is the approach. The writing of this show is steeped in the humanity, compassion, and psychological realism markedly absent from current TV.
The team members are deeply decent human beings who love their jobs and their team-mates, but Flashpoint does a superb job illustrating the real-life issues such as PTSD, stress, and guilt that come with such work.
Markedly absent is the fictional conceit that events don't have consequences. When team leader and sniper Ed Lane shoots a hostage-taker in the series premier, not only do they show his emotional reaction immediately after the shooting, they follow him through suspension, investigation, and debriefing by a psychologist. The consequences of the shooting continue to appear through the series; Ed experiences flashbacks, is sued, and in season two the hostage-taker's son even tries to kill him.
Flashpoint does not stop at portraying the team in a compassionate and realistic light; the subjects of their calls are rarely black-and-white "bad guys." Psychologically disturbed individuals are portrayed as layered individuals with reasons for their behavior. Sometimes these reasons are morally justifiable, sometimes not. Sometimes we sympathize with them, sometimes we want them dead sooner rather than later - but we are almost always given insight as to how and why they reached their "Flashpoint."
Anyone who has experienced traumatic events or PTSD in their own life or helped friends and family cope with traumas should watch this show. It is deeply validating and provides excellent models of how to cope and how not to, as well as being sensitively and realistically written.
Flashpoint is a cop show with real people and ethical, caring human beings in difficult situations. As one friend of mine put it, "It's the anti-24." If you're tired of television where the writers can't think of any better way to create drama than to set up a crisis and then torture their way out of it, try Flashpoint.
This is the (ironically, Canadian-produced) television show that jaded, wounded America needs right now.

Monk: Season Five/Pysch: The Complete First Season (2002) Review

Monk: Season Five/Pysch: The Complete First Season (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Last year, longrunning detective series "Monk" (an obsessie-compulsive detective) got paired with the new show, a lighthearted comedy-mystery series about a kooky faux-psychic who solves crimes. Together, these shows are even more delightful, with charmingly eccentric characters and some very nice writing.
The fifth season of "Monk" opens with a movie about to be made about Monk's (Tony Shalhoub) life and amazing abilities, with well-known actor David Ruskin (Stanley Tucci) as Monk. But Ruskin turns out to be the world's best method actor, as he observes Monk doing his detective work -- and starts to acquire Monk's OCD and personality.
But Monk's problems don't cease when he's paralyzed by a garbage strike, and the strike leader is murdered. Other cases include a mysterious electrocution in a gym shower, being blinded by a murderer, a stint as a private eye, a college reunion, a disastrous rock concert, a leper, marijuana, a radio host whose wife died while he was on the air, and he competes against technology to find a serial killer.
At the end of Monk's hour comes the time for Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his long-suffering pal Gus (Dulé Hill). Shawn's strict, humorless dad coached him since early childhood to be the perfect future cop -- hyperobservant, highly intelligent, the perfect detective. But when he reports his observations to the police, they arrest him -- and his only way out is to pretend to be psychic.
In fact, his gimmick works brilliantly -- soon he sets up shop as a psychic, after plucking Gus from a dull job. Among their colourful cases: death at a spelling bee, a haunting at a sorority house, a wedding tainted by theft and murder, a ghostly stalking, a cat used as a witness, Civil war reenactments, a comic book convention, alien abductions, underground poker, and organizing a surprise birthday party for Lassiter.
"Monk" and "Psych" have a lot in common. They're both about hyperobservant eccentrics, and they both have solid mysteries and some hilarious writing, although Monk tends to be rather sadder in tone, compared to the frothy twentysomething hijinks of Gus and Shawn. Seen together, these shows seem like two of a kind.
But whatever the differences, they both have colourful mysteries (sometimes with unexpected twists), and some deliciously strange dialogue, whether it's Monk being depressed ("I wish I drank. Is it wonderful?") or Shawn flailing to be pretending to be psychic ("Spare me! Spare me! AUUUWWWWW!"). And in between the comedy, we get to see what shaped the characters into who they are.
Granted, neither series is quite perfect -- Monk's OCD becomes rather cartoonish in a few episodes, such as his nutty reaction to his shrink retiring. And the mysteries Shawn and Gus solve take a little while to be suitably mysterious -- by the middle of the season, they are both fun AND suspenseful, such as that whole speed-dating episode.
The leads of both shows are absolutely delightful -- Tony Shalhoub can be hysterical (such as when he tries to be a butler), but can also be heartbreaking, such as when Monk watches his old wedding video. Roday, on the other hand, is just a hilarious comic actor. His Shawn is devoid of responsibility or dignity, and he rides through on luck --but he has a good heart, and is genuinely good at being a detective.
And both shows have great supporting casts, especially Hill as the long-suffering Gus, and Traylor Howard as Monk's nurse-sidekick. All the cops -- including Gray-Stanford and Ormondson -- get plenty of character development. And they have some celebrity appearances: "Psych" has George Takei, while Monk has some small, hilarious roles for Alice Cooper and Tucci. And Sean Astin gives a glorious performance as a murderous, spoiled rich brat.
The fifth season of "Monk" helped the first season of "Psych" get off the ground. These smartly-written, humorous mystery series are well-paired, and both are definitely worth getting.

Foyle's War: Set Four (2007) Review

Foyle's War: Set Four (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Upon watching the last thrilling episode, in which Foyle confronts the insurmountable stumbling blocks of wartime necessity headlong by tendering his resignation----After all, the Ruhr dams must be busted!----I had to go online to make sure that a new season was coming up. I have become addicted to this low-key but absorbing, instructive, and endlessly entertaining mystery series. And there are still about three years of World War II to go.
As this series continues, the leading characters, Chief Inspector Foyle (Michael Kitchen) and Samantha (Honeysuckle Weeks), become ever more engaging. The settings of Hastings and the Sussex countryside become ever more picturesque. Moreover, as the mysteries become ever more intriguing, the narrative of Britain during the Blitz----the people's hardships, their gallantry, and in many cases their victimization by unscrupulous profiteers----becomes indelibly compelling. The series would make an excellent teaching tool in a history class, since it not only presents a fascinating account of the war but it also gives a realistic depiction of the toll that war takes on the civilian population. This splendid BBC series puts a human face both on casualties and survivors, whom the modern media tend to dismiss with the callous and meaningless catchphrase, "collateral damage."
Whew! I can now rest easy. There will indeed be another season of "Foyle's War" in 2008.

History meets mystery in this award-winning PBS series, with four all-new feature-length episodes set at the height of World War II. The Job - The Complete Series (2001) Review

The Job - The Complete Series (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a mid-season filler for "NYPD Blue", "The Job" turned out to be one of the best shows aired in a long time. With a sharp-witted irreverant script and a uniformly great cast, it should have run longer than 19 episodes.
Denis Leary, co-creator, co-producer and co-writer (with Peter Tolan) stars as unscrupulous Mike MacNeil, a pill-popping chain-smoking NYC Detective trying to keep his wife/family, 26 year old girlfriend and job all in balance. When the show ended, everything was unravelling in his life....
The rest of the cast is just too good to single anyone out, even with the recurring "guest" roles - with one stand out there being Janet Hubert-Whitten. Although listed as appearing in only four episodes as Bill Nunn's (Pip) iron fisted domineering wife Adina, her presence is felt in nearly every episode looming over the whipped Pip like a dark menacing cloud.
Nothing whatever is sacred whether it be race, religion or severed body parts. Case in point would be Lt. Williams, played in the pilot episode by Richard Gant, who can't remember the two Hispanic detective's names and calls them rice and beans ("I've been a detective for 36 years...I'm too old to learn new names")
While many things in the show would be offensive if they were played straight, the brilliant scripts don't pull it's punches on any topic and delivers dead-pan humor with gleeful zest.
The four DVD set comes nicely packaged and has few, but substantial extras, including interviews and a gag reel. Definitely one of the best releases of the year!

DEA: Detroit (2008) Review

DEA: Detroit (2008)
Average Reviews:

This is a 2-disc DVD set of Spike TV's DEA, a real COPS like show where camera's follow real law officers on the job. This show differs from COPS in that it follows a set group of individuals from the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), Group 14, as they try to stop Drug trafficking by targeting small drug dealer's for leads that will take them to the top dogs all in the set location of Detroit. This set contains the following six hour long episodes:
Season 1, Ep 1: DEA vs. Heroin Kingpin - The DEA receives help from a drug trafficker that was a turned informant, to get DEA agents into Detroit's drug underworld scene.
Aired: 4/2/2008
Ep 2: Deadly Chase - The DEA go on a deadly standoff with two drug dealers and an escaped bank robber who stop at nothing to leave Detroit.
Aired: 4/9/2008
Ep 3: Operation Pill Grinder - The DEA joined with Group 14, go on a citywide operation that forces them to go on eight simultaneous raids on the streets of Detroit.
Aired: 4/16/2008
Ep 4: Up the Ladder - Group 14 stages a group of raids that target drug rings.
Aired: 4/23/2008
Ep 5: Deep Cover - A confidential informant and a special agent with the DEA go undercover to infiltrate an ecstasy drug ring.
Aired: 4/30/2008
Ep 6: Marijuana Grow House - Group 14 goes on a citywide operation to shutdown grow houses that are near local schools.
Aired: 5/7/2008
The show is shot in widescreen.
Spike TV has been growing since UFC took off and I find this show one of the best new additions to their lineup. This first season took place in Detroit but every season they plan to move and focus on a different group of DEA officers which finds season 2 moving to 'Tony Soprano's' own New Jersey where Group 56 (said "Five-Six") tackles the drug world and tries to clean up the streets. In my opinion these shows are done better than most live action series and I find the second season so far, especially, to be more adrenaline fueled than the more recent seasons of 24. (In fact I was surprised to learn that a thirteen episode cop drama series entitled DEA, based on the DEA's exploits, had been produced in 1990 but apparently never took off and was way before it's time. Just as well now that we have this awesome reality series based on the real guys).
I highly recommend this show to anyone who either loves the Cop Camera based documentaries, loves action and good entertaining television, or even for those who like cop or criminal based dramas to give a try. 5 stars, I'm glad for the number of episodes that this set is only 19.99 and I can't wait for the second season on DVD and it's not even done airing yet as I write this. If your not sure if this is for you check out your listings to catch the new season on Spike TV and give it a try.

Steven Seagal Lawman: The Complete Season One (2009) Review

Steven Seagal Lawman: The Complete Season One (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tonight I watched my first two episodes of Steven Seagal Lawman and I am hooked. Let me tell you what first grabbed me: Seagal is a REAL person. He has no fluff, no (apparent) plastic surgery, no entourage, and no arrogance. He's a real man, doing a tough job with a fair amount of (well-deserved) celebrity attached to his name. Watching Seagal go through the paces with his deputies is fulfilling and enjoyable, and you feel like you can connect with him.
The second fun part of the show for me is when the suspects recognize him. In one traffic stop in tonight's episode, the two suspects are drunk. The driver says to Steven as he is questioning him, "YOu remind me of Steven Seagal." Steven keeps talking, and the the driver says to his friend, "Doesn't he look just like Steven Seagal?" And then Steven says, "Yeah, I get that a lot." Then he goes back into explaining why they shouldn't drink and drive and what they need to do next. It just adds a little fun to your regular 'COPs' Type program.
And thirdly, Seagal is working in Jefferson Parrish, New Orleans so they cover a lot of ground devastated by Katrina. Seagal and his men were there during the clean-up and have first-hand knowledge to the rebuilding of the areas affected. And they care -- they really care. No fake speeches, just real caring.
Seagal has been a cop for 20 years, and only now is he making it public. He has the skills and his notoriety can be used to bring attention to this area that needs a helping hand and your prayers.
I recommend this program whole-heartedly.

Chris Ryan's Elite Police (2009) Review

Chris Ryan's Elite Police (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you work in law enforcement like I do you will find this show extremely interesting. It shows how policemen train and operate to fight the criminal. I am amazed at the skill of this legendary SAS hero (British Special Forces) and continue to watch in amazement. It also shows all the different automatic weapons that ELITE POLICE are using around the world. Each episode is divided in two: a first part in which Ryan closely observes the training of the unit he's a guest of and a second part in which he follows an actual operation in the field. Monk - Season Five (2002) Review

Monk - Season Five (2002)

Most cult TV dies pretty quickly, but Adrian Monk has been charming viewers with his quirky detecting for five seasons now. The fifth season occasionally crosses the line into cartoonishness, but overall it's still an entertaining, amusing little detective show... with the world's only OCD detective.
In the opening episode, a movie is going to be made about Monk's (Tony Shalhoub) life and amazing abilities, with well-known actor David Ruskin (Stanley Tucci) as Monk. But Ruskin turns out to be the world's best method actor, as he observes Monk doing his detective work -- and starts to acquire Monk's OCD and personality. Sometimes acting can be TOO good.
But Monk's problems don't cease when he's paralyzed by a garbage strike, and the strike leader is murdered. Other cases include a mysterious electrocution in a gym shower, being blinded by a murderer, a stint as a private eye, a college reunion, a disastrous rock concert, a leper, posing as a butler, a radio host whose wife died while he was on the air, and he competes against technology to find a serial killer.
On the personal front, Monk gets reacquainted with his father, who left the family when he was a child, and he also tries to deal with Dr. Kroger's early retirement, by solving the crime that prompted him to leave. And he helps Randy (Jason Gray-Stanford ) out when the latter inherits a farm -- and a mysterious death.
The fifth season does sag a little in the middle -- the retirement and rocker episodes have Monk's OCD becoming almost cartoonishly comic. But most of the rest of the episodes are quite good, with the typical unsolvable cases, unbreakable alibis, and inexplicable phobias from poor Monk.
Writingwise, there's nothing to complain about -- solid writing, solid plots full of difficult mysteries, and Monk undergoing lots of stress as he tries to deal with his many phobias. The dialogue is top-notch ("There's never hope. I wish I drank. Is it wonderful?"), and the writers allow all the regular characters to shine now and again, including Randy and Stottlemeyer (who have a kind of big-brother/little-brother vibe).
Tony Shalhoub is just amazing here, as Monk tries to navigate the dangers of a dirty, random world. He's absolutely hilarious when poor Monk has to square dance, feed chickens, and single-handedly tries to clean up San Francisco. But he also gives us some truly beautiful moments, such as when we see Monk watching his wedding video, quietly crying.
Traylor Howard continues to give a solid performance as Monk's assistant, while Ted Levine and Gray-Stanford round off the regular cast as the kindly Stottlemeyer and naive Randy. Alice Cooper has a fun cameo, and Tucci is absolutely great as a Monk-impersonator. And Sean Astin gives a glorious performance as a murderous, spoiled rich brat.
The fifth season of "Monk" has a few episodes that are lacking, but most of them are still excellent, suspenseful little mysteries. Definitely worth seeing.

It's time to tidy up for another season with Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub in all 16 Season Five episodes of Monk, television's most fresh and funny series. Gumshoe Adrian Monk would never actually have gum on his well-polished shoes: in addition to intellect and instinct, he also has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Though his eccentric traits bewilder his colleagues Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard), Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Lieutenant Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), Monk's attention to detail keeps crime-and grime-off the streets. Included in this highly collectible, 4-disc set are both the black & white and color versions of the noir-style episode "Mr. Monk and the Leper," obsessively good bonus features and the pilot episode of the hit comedy-drama Psych. Follow the clues to Season Five of Monk, the quirky and original show TV Guide hails as "alternatively hilarious and touching."

CHiPs: The Complete Second Season (2008) Review

Long ago, before the "reality TV plague" laid waste to most of the television landscape, there was a time when viewers could choose from a whole host of entertaining, fun, uplifting programs. If you're looking for escapist entertainment, likable characters, fun plots, and a few nifty stunts.... then you'll love Chips!
Although this series is over thirty years old, Chips has aged quite gracefully. This is due in part to great chemistry between the actors (all perfectly cast) and mostly lighthearted, fun scripts. If you're a dedicated fan seeking to feed your "nostalgia monster", you'll find yourself in the middle of a retro buffet! It just doesn't get any better than this!
With the recent trend being to release DVD "half seasons" at full season prices (Love Boat, Cannon, etc.), it's nice to see that fans of Chips have been treated fairly. An entire season of Chips is well worth the reasonable list price, and Amazon currently has a wonderful pre-order price to make this an irresistible purchase!
Let's hope that future seasons arrive in a timely manner! I just can't get enough!
Note:
Season one was released on SINGLE SIDED discs. This set is DOUBLE SIDED.
