(More customer reviews)Back in 1999, the producer of 'God, the Devil and Bob' rescued me, and a bevy of artists from Klasky-Csupo's 'Rocket Power' by calling to ask if we would be interested in working on this show. We lept at it, and began serious careers.
While I directed on this show I was amazed to meet a person who still stands out to me as the most professional and gifted writer/creator I ever had the pleasure to work with; Matthew Carlson. While the show suffered from a number of problems, it was held together by a core of very dedicated people like Matthew, Carsey & Warner, Margot Pipkin and Jeff DeGrandis. By the end of the series, everyone believed we had made a very good family sitcom, with a core of excellent writing and acting. Unfortunately it was met with middle of the road ratings, legal troubles and finally, religious activists. 4 episodes were shown on NBC in 2000 before it was torn off the channel.
The crew, from producer down, always felt the design choice for the characters was a mistake, seriously hindering the ability to animate and express fully. But, there is a kind of scratchy charm at the best of times. My favorite episode was 'Bobs Father'. Pity it was never shown on prime time.
As GDB ended, I was asked to direct and produce 'Invader Zim' where I took a good number of the GDB crew in order to do something very different with far more technical aspects. But, GDB still stands as the best experience with writer/creators, writing, and producers in the business.

Sealab 2021 - Season 1 (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)If you stay awake long enough to catch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network Sunday nights (starts around 10:30 p.m. CST, my old time zone- now I'm on the east coast, and everything starts an hour later), check out "Sealab 2021". It's a spoof off the old 1972 cartoon "Sealab 2020", except that the original '72 crew has been replaced by a bunch of lunatics who probably shouldn't be allowed out of doors. Perhaps that's why they've been confined to an underwater lab where they can't hurt anybody (well, almost anybody). We loyal fans have long awaited Adult Swim gems to come on DVD, and with "Sealab 2021", you get the following eppys:
*I, ROBOT- News of a monkey whose brain has been implanted in a robot prompts the crew to have a long-winded "discussion" about the fate of their own brains.
*HAPPYCAKE- Captain Murphy is devestated to find his beloved Happy Cake Oven is missing, and orders the crew, along with a Jacques Cousteau-like narrator, to search the waters for it. Meanwhile, a giant squid endangers the life of the crew; or as the narrator sees it, "uses it's tentacles to cradle me like a Mother's arms".
*RADIO FREE SEALAB- Captain Murphy is bored and decides to use the lab's emergency radio beacon for a pirate radio station, starring as "Howling Mad" Murphy.
*CHICKMATE- Debbie questions the male crewmembers to see who will make the best Father for the baby she wants immediately, and Stormy almost learns a valuable lesson in race relations.
*LOST IN TIME- Bizarre episode in which Stormy and Dr. Quinn are mysteriously transported 15 minutes back in time to save Sealab from an explosion- even though the same explosion happens again, starting the vicious cycle all over again.
*PREDATOR- There's an invisible yet shimmery ghoul aboard Sealab that has the crew cowering in the corners. It's up to Dr. Quinn (with Dolphin Boy as bait) to capture the fiend.
*LITTLE ORPHAN ANGRY- Griffin, a terminally ill orphan, comes aboard Sealab to live out his dream. But Griffin's heart is not as pure as everyone thinks. Meanwhile, Capt. Murphy morphs into a germ-a-phobe freak as he fears a Bubonic Plague outbreak.
*WAKING QUINN- The eppy is a bit hard to follow- Stormy wants to show Dr. Quinn his new hairdryer while Quinn is in the water- yes, Dr. Quinn is electrocuted and bizarre happenings are afoot.
*ALL THAT JAZZ- In one of the funniest episodes, Capt. Murphy gets trapped underneath the BeBop Cola machine. Unfortunately for him, everyone else is at a concert. A year transpires before he is found, and in that time he loses all his teeth and becomes addicted to scorpion venom.
*MURPHY MURPH AND THE FENG SHUI BUNCH- This is my all-time fave eppy. Capt. Muprhy is dissatisfied with the disharmoy of the Sealab decor. He hires an extortionate Feng Shui "master" to redecorate everything- but "Master Loo" is a con artist who convinces the crew to buy his crap oragami and persuades Murphy to spend $50,000 on a solid gold toilet. Ofcourse, only Dr. Quinn sees through him.
*IN THE CLOSET- Capt. Murphy gets everyone stlocked in a closet, and tempers begin to flare.
*STIMUTACS- The ver witty Sparks has come up with a new drug that everyone wants,but the side effects are grotesque- and additctive.
*SWIMMING IN OBLIVION- A compliation of past episodes dominates this season finaale, including the informercials for the "Debbie Gone Wild!" DVD's.
Some of Sealab's best episodes were in it's first season, and thankfully they're all here.

Also, this series was (it seems to me, anyway) meant for adults, not kids. That's why it's on ADULT Swim. This is a great series which Hot Topic hasn't killed yet.

Squidbillies, Vol. 1 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)From one of the creative minds behind Adult Swim's smash Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies pushes the limits for offensiveness compared to some of the other shows on the Adult Swim lineup, and in some cases, even goes over it. It's all good however, considering that Squidbillies is mostly pure comic glee. The show revolves around an ex-con, hillbilly, talking squid named Early, who is re-united with his illegitamite son in backwoods redneck country. In between the series of mis-adventures that the two embark on, they deal with crack-pot family members, and a sheriff that has his share of problems. There's plenty of gross out gags and cliche' hillbilly behavior, and for the most part it's all frequently hilarious throughout. The animation style may not be everyone's cup of tea to be sure, but it suits the environment and the setting. As said before, Squidbillies is definitely not for everyone, but it keeps on supplying the laughs, and in that department alone, is worth checking out.

Squidbillies, Vol. 2 (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Hands down the best show featuring land dwelling cephalopods ever made. One thing the show has going for it is a total disregard for continuity. It's fun seeing characters mutilated or killed repeatedly. Also, it is a show about hillbilly squids. They live in Northern Georgia and are protected by the Endangered Species Act so they're free to raise hell. In addition to the squids other regular characters include a Sheriff and an evil capitalist named Dan Halen that looks like a....I don't know. He has no knees and looks like half a ball sac. He talks like Orson Welles and is immortal and then there is Krystal. And well, come to think of it, you got a bunch of great characters including the Reverend (another bizarre creation) and the Devil and Jesus too --both as you've never seen them before. Anyway, I've seen hillbilly shows and hillbillies in person and the same with squids and putting the two together to make one creature makes perfect sense. The animation is superb. Crude and decadent as it should be. One aspect of the show that I love is the narration featured on some episodes. Cracks me up like an Easter egg. Just the tone of it. The second volume is even better than the first one. Do it to it.

Robot Chicken, Season 1 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)The topics and humor in this show come fast and in a highly random manner, which may not appeal to everyone, but if you like the old 1-minute "blackout" type of sketches done years ago on many variety shows, then Robot Chicken will appeal to you. If a gag misses the mark for you it will be over fast and the next one will be rolling by moments later, a gag that may be very different and a lot funnier to you. There's something for everyone, as pop-culture, politics and more are skewered using action figures and other models in a rapid parade of stop-motion comedy sketches. My personal favorites are those that use action figures from some popular cartoon, comic book or movie, placing them in character in situations where they are forced to deal with everyday frustrations and problems. It's bust-a-gutt funny when you see Lex Luthor and Skeletor stuck in traffic, Transformers suffering from severe chronic illnesses, and more. There's also a hilarious bit where a stop-motion Mark Hamill (who voices himself) walks off the set of Star Wars after Darth Vader spouts a string of the most improbable explanations of how things work in Star Wars mythology. Many other actors and well-known personalities provide guest voices on the show, often poking fun at themselves or work they have done in the past.
Robot Chicken Vol. 1 is funny enough to warrant repeated viewing and I'm looking forward both to buying this DVD set and to seeing the second season of the show which begins in April 2006.

Robot Chicken - Season Two (Uncensored) (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)The second season of Robot Chicken, created by geek-god Seth Green, continues the stop motion, action figure starring insanity that made the groundbreaking first season of the show so entertaining. If you enjoyed the first season of the show, you should know what to expect here: skits ranging from Star Wars to classic TV shows and cartoons, to politically charged moments, celebrity-aimed knocks, to just plain blink and you miss it insanity. However, there are some misses to this season, including a segment starring both Corey Haim and Corey Feldman as themselves, which is almost painful to watch. The good however, greatly outweighs the bad, as we see a crazed Ted Turner (not voiced by himself) masquerade around as Captain Planet, Barney the purple dinosaur looking for love, Castro playing "Dance, Dance, Revolution", a fantastic Highlander spoof starring the current day teen queens, and plenty, plenty more to boot. Also like the first season of the show, there is a horde of voice talent to be found with the second season of Robot Chicken, including Green, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Scarlet Johansson, Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, David Hasselhoff, Seth MacFarlane, Christian Slater, Phyllis Diller, Breckin Meyer, Miguel Ferrer, Dana "Master Shake" Snyder, Dan Milano, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Michelle Trachtenberg, Ginnifer Goodwin, Macaulay Culkin, Bruce Campbell, Peter Gallagher, Emma Caulfield, Melanie Griffith, Gene Simmons, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, Weird Al, Kelly Hu, Roddy Piper, and Hulk Hogan. There's a great selection of special features to be found on this two disc set, and yes, like it says on the cover, season two of Robot Chicken is uncensored, and even funnier than you may think it would be without the bleeps. All in all, even for casual Adult Swim viewers, season two of Robot Chicken is a must own.

Undergrads: The Complete First Season (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)I must admit that this show didn't quite grab my attention at first glance. The first couple of episodes seemed somewhat humorous, but also rather mediocre and lackluster. The characters appeared more annoying than intriguing, and the plot was rather drab and boring. However, once the show got going, it really grew on me until I found myself wanting more of the queer quartet. Now I feel sadly unsatiated at the lack of further seasons.
The episodes center around four high school friends who have moved on to college and are undergoing their freshman trials and tribulations. Rather than focus on academia, the show chooses to focus it's attention on dorm and social life, which, to some, is far more interesting anyway. Nitz is the central character, and he's also the most likeable, down-to-earth of the bunch. He spends his time attempting to win the heart of a girl who loves another. Rocko is the stereotypical jock/burnout/frat boy of the group, who spends too much time staring at the bottom of a bottle and communicating with the hallucinogenic manifestations such a pastime brings. Cal is Nitz's roommate and quite the ladies man, though one must wonder why. Gimpy is by far my favorite character, being the hermitic shut-in with the band of followers and an impressive infatuation with Star Wars (not to be confused with Star Trek). Then there's Kimmy, Nitz's star-crossed love interest, and Jesse, the girl who's always there to pick up the broken pieces.
Together this group sets out in search of themselves amidst all the wonders of college life including parties, fake ID's, bars, prank week, the naked run, and a huge spring break bash, and in the end they'll discover that life still presents many lessons to be learned.
With so many of the animated cartoon shows aired today geared towards younger age groups, it's rather refreshing to see a show that the college age group can identify with.Unfortunately, it seems as though many great television shows are cancelled far too early on, and therefore never get the chances they deserve. This show will be sorely missed. Luckily, though, the first and only season is available on DVD for our viewing pleasure. If you a enjoy Daria, Beavis and Butthead, or even South Park (though there is slightly less bathroom humor present in this show than in those later two mentioned), then give Undergrads a try as well. The thirteen episodes presented herein are well worth the money.

Moral Orel, Vol. 1, The Unholy Edition (2005) Review

"Created by Dino Stamatopoulos, a writer known for his regular contributions to adult comedy shows like Late Night with Conan O'Brien and TV Funhouse, this sinfully clever stop-motion series packs a wallop of a message in a short amount of time -- and, in essence, that's part of the problem. In fact, so much controversial humor peppers the show's 15-minute run that the shock value of the humor could overshadow the program's subtle message.
So while adults are more likely to see MORAL OREL for what it is -- a biting social satire mocking religious fundamentalism and hypocrisy within the Christian church -- kids (even some older teens) probably won't be able to appreciate the true sophistication of the humor. (And in case you were wondering, young children definitely won't get the joke.)
Borrowing its distinctive animation style from classic Rankin-Bass shows like Davey and Goliath, Moral Orel follows the often-shocking misadventures of 11-year-old Orel Puppington (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence), a devoutly Christian boy who tries his best to live life by "the book" but often misinterprets God's teachings. Week after week, Orel's good intentions lead to disaster.
But instead of learning from his mistakes, Orel is usually led astray by his pseudo-reflective father, Clay (Scott Adsit), whose advice is rarely helpful and always misses the mark. For example, at the end of an episode chronicling Orel's brief addiction to crack cocaine, Mr. Puppington cautions Orel that crack "is a gateway to slang," prompting the boy to solemnly vow: "When I do drugs, I'm going to speak properly." Parents should be aware that those are the types of "lessons" kids could inadvertently learn from watching this show.
Fans of Moral Orel will undoubtedly enjoy South Park and will probably also get a kick out of revisiting old episodes of Davey and Goliath for some pointed comparisons. Other recommendations include Strangers with Candy, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons."

Parents need to know that while this satirical Cartoon Network comedy is animated, it's part of the Adult Swim line-up for a reason: It's rife with graphic humor and isn't appropriate for young children. (For example, when the 11-year-old Orel takes a drag from his very first crack pipe, he snaps at his talking Jesus figurine and tells him to shut up.) Troubling content aside, however, the show can serve as a way for parents and older teens to talk about the pitfalls of religious fanaticism -- although families who are deeply religious may find the program offensive.
Families can discuss the ways in which religious dogma can be misinterpreted by those with good intentions. Does a person who is considered to be religious always act morally? What statement are the creators of this series making about the state of modern-day Christianity? How does this cartoon compare with Davey and Goliath, the early 1960s animated series it gently parodies?

The Venture Bros.: Season Three (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)The Venture Bros. is without a doubt my favorite TV show, and has been for a while. There is so much to enjoy about this show it's hard to know where to start. The writers (Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, also the voices of many of the characters) have taken the Jonny Quest concept and warped it beyond recognition into a tremendously enjoyable viewing experience. One thing I love about this show is Doc and Jackson's absolute refusal to dumb down the material in any way, shape or form. If you don't get a joke or a reference, you just have to rewind the DVD and watch again, or go online, or watch earlier shows (shows often refer back to tiny details in past shows, which you're expected to just know). Sometimes the jokes come from so far out of left field I end up shaking my head in amazement, as with an episode where two Men In Black-style government agents identify themselves as lepidopterists (as opposed to philatelists -- it'll make sense in context). Season 3 offers the same great writing as the first two seasons, but the look of the show has been dramatically improved with the 16x9 aspect ratio. The DVDs are also completely uncensored (I was amazed at how many swear words were in the episodes). This show can be enjoyed on many levels: the crazy comedy, the characters (who are endearing despite, or perhaps because of, their many foibles), the terrific over-the-top action sequences, the satire, the references, the amazingly convoluted backstory, and just the utter out-and-out insanity of every episode. The one negative thing is that the story has gotten sufficiently involved that it would be hard for a new viewer to really get what was going on by watching these episodes; you really need to buy the first two box sets (you can thank me later). Actually, there's another negative thing: after watching The Venture Bros., other TV shows seem depressingly stupid and boring by comparison.

The Venture Bros. - Seasons One and Two (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)The Cartoon Network is known for its kooky Adult Swim, with everything from "Robot Chicken" to superhero lawyers. But few of their shows can match the comic brilliance of "The Venture Brothers," whose first two seasons are combined here -- it unabashedly spoofs "Jonny Quest" and other kiddie adventure fare, with plenty of sarcasm and weird characters.
It's about the adventures of Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, who was once a child genius, but is now a fortysomething has-been who is still overshadowed by his adventurous dad's legacy. Now he has two not-so-bright teenagers of his own, Dean and Hank ("Go Team VENTURE!"), as well as the sweet robot H.E.L.P.eR. And finally there's his lusty, secret-agent, mullet-haired Swedish bodyguard Brock.
In these two seasons, the Venture Brothers (plus Rusty and Brock) face the Monarch, a second-rate villain who desperately wants to be Dr. Venture's nemesis, and his deep-voiced sidekick Dr. Girlfriend. They also have to deal with a crazy Walt-Disneyesque mogul, the steel-jawed Baron Underbheit, and the Guild of Calamitous Intent (whose leader is someone we're all familiar with).
And they must also deal with many other problems -- mummies, chupacabras, the repeated deaths of the twins, failing space stations, evil Egyptian cults, bad porn, testicular torsion, necromancers, Japanese demons, "Venturestein," aliens, sex changes, ghost pirates, and even a Christmas episode where they get crashed by a strange Christmas spirit.
A series like "Jonny Quest" is just asking for a spoof, and "Venture Brothers" happily obliges. But in fact, it also mocks all unrealistic action-adventure, from the Fantastic Four to the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." Where else can you find a villain's henchman arguing who would win in a "crazy fantasy fight-fight between Anne Frank and Lizzie Borden"?
And while many series get lamer as they get on, "Venture Brothers" starts off well -- in the pilot, which is included -- and gets progressively funnier. Even the death of main characters is treated with irreverant sarcasm. t's full of adolescent gross-out humor (the Monarch and porta-potties), gory action, and occasionally a sex scene for Brock.
But what's REALLY brilliant about this series? The scripting, which is often crazy and unabashedly sarcastic: "I have watched you pull a man's eyes from his head and make him dance like a marionette with his own optic nerves!" " At least I didn't break his heart." If anyone says anything serious, it's just a windup to the punch line ("What's he doing now?" "He's making his dramatic exit").
Patrick Warburton and James Urbaniak are utterly perfect as the indestructible super-agent Brock and the bitter Venture, with Michael Sinterniklaas as the ultra-naive Dean. Christopher McCulloch does several roles, particularly the know-it-all Hank and the whiny-voiced Monarch. And Steven Rattazzi gets a special mention as the melodramatic necromancer/single dad Dr. Orpheus. Love that guy.
"The Venture Brothers" have exactly the kind of adventures that kids dream of NOT having, but the adults will love the first two seasons of this richly absurd show. GO TEAM VENTURE!

Tripping the Rift - The Complete First Season (2004) Review

Code Monkeys: Season 1 (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)Originally airing on the G4 network, Code Monkeys is from the same minds behind Adult Swim's Minoriteam, which will either tell you right now if this is up your alley or not. Code Monkeys revolves around a crew of video game developers in the 80's, and the crazy hijinks that ensue when they get a new boss in the form of the gun-toting, money hungry Texan Larrity. The main characters the show revolves around are sissy-boy Jerry and the wisecracking Dave; who are among a crew that also features a role-playing nerd and the lone black employee. What follows involves the crew tangling with Hitler's descendants, taking a trip to prison, and getting the chance to make a game based on Steven Spielberg's E.T. (one of the absolute best episodes of the whole series). While Code Monkeys is often inspired lunacy with some great visual gags, there are a number of moments where no one will be laughing. However, the good very much outweighs the bad with Code Monkeys, and the show as a whole is very enjoyable, with enough old-school video game references to make any gamer smile. If you've never watched Code Monkeys before but dig much of the Adult Swim comedy programming, chances are you'll dig this as well.

(More customer reviews)I haven't had any problems at all with my two discs. They play just fine and look fine.
My only beef would be the change in the animation & writting after episode 4. It became way to 'cutesy' and less crass. No more exposed breasts get shown, no more truely funny innuendos. I felt like I was watching a saturday morning fluffy cartoon.
Now I understand why it got cancelled. Someone screwed with it and screwed it up.
It is worth buying for the orginial first 4 episodes tho.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force 6 (2008) Review

Packaging and Menus: This packaging continues with the trend of Williams Street releases in that it's really minimalist. In fact, it might be their most minimalist release. The entire artwork on the DVD cover, the menus, and even the stickers it comes with consist of simple shapes. The DVDs are themselves just solid color. Although simple, it's attractive and very bright. It's simple done right, just like the show itself with it's limited animation.
Video and Audio Quality : Maintains the broadcast quality pretty perfectly. There's only one case of audio inconsistency and that's in a webisode extra. Everything else is fine.
Disc 1 : Houses the 9 episodes that Adult Swim has aired already with commentary for 3 of them.
Episodes : This season opened with a different formula towards the beginning. The Aqua Teens are gone and the spotlight is cast on Carl and the new vampire/landlord Markula. Carl and Markula attempt to rent out the Aqua Teen's home to different tenants that don't stay long and are usually monstrous.
After three episodes of this, The Aqua Teen's return and do their usual routine of experiencing gay zombie gorillas, super-power eye surgery, murderous dummies in love, Canada, religious fruit, low-life genies, parasitic mermaids, radioactive African Americans, multiple scamming infomercials, and the unspeakable horror of furries.
The Carl/Markula Episodes : A fresh break for the viewers and for the writers (who admitted they were burnt out on the main characters). Even though Sirens was weaker than the other two episodes, the Markula highlights made it enjoyable. He was a really great character and he made the run really unique. I'm sad he only got 3 episodes to shine.
Reedickyoulous : After Carl Orders a genital enhancer from an infomercial, his radioactive waste creates zombie animals.
The opening montage was sweet until the sinister turn to a pet cemetery parody. Some thought this episode crossed the line with the killing of animals. I don't think it did. It's Reedickyoulous (see what I did there?) to be so offended by a cat dying when humans have died multiple times previously. Anyway, the toilet humor here with Carl wasn't done especially well for ATHF. An otherwise deliciously absurd episode with a 360 that starts with cat murder and ends with a gay banana bus.
Hoppy Bunny : Because of Carl ordering a flute from an infomercial, Furries take over the Aqua Teen's neighbourhood.
Carl needs to stop ordering things off the telly. Totally wouldn't expect a jab at furries on Aqua Teen. It was a well done jab, though, and that's all that matters. Beginning with the exercise video was a little weak, but it went uphill from there. The massage scene and what follows "I have the power of a thousand suns!" was hilarious, and one of the best moments on ATHF for sure. On a side note : I was amused that they actually had to censor the furry peeing. The FCC is comedy in it's own right.
Laser Lenses : Shake steals Frylocke's contact lenses (apparently the source of his power all along) and all hell breaks loose.
Fantastic episode. Shake being bestowed a great power brings out the quality we all love in him best. I really like the concept that Frylocke's lenses were the source of his power. I also really love the ending, it's just a huge absurd reality collapse where multiple offbeat things are going on all at once. Probably one of the funniest ATHF-style abrupt endings in the show's history.
Dummy Love : Murderous dummies haunt the Aqua Teens and Carl.
I loved the twisted take on the horror cliche that no matter what..the antagonist will keep coming back illogically. I didn't really get the repetition of "KILL..KILL!" from the dummies, but when they started "getting along" while repeating their respective words, I died. I also love how Shake takes advantage of their regenerating abilities. The exact creativity that reminds me why I love this show.
The Marines : Meatwad and Shake find themselves joining the Marines while Frylocke finds himself in Canada.
Only one of 3 episodes this season that I found to be mediocre. To do a Saw parody is so unlike ATHF that it was off putting. The Marine goings on were pretty amusing but the end just petered out into rehash. I'm glad they realized they rehashed from the movie, but It just proves to me that they had the potential to do better. Instead they were lazy and made a joke from it instead of fixing it ala Family Guy.
Bible Fruit : Frylocke invites his new friends from myspace to come to a party and they turn out to be born again christian fruits.
Following a bad episode comes one of the best ATHF episodes yet. Same thing happens in the 4 exclusive episodes, a bit inconsistent this season. Anyway, this episode was grand. The humor is so black and dark and disturbing here and it's executed perfectly with great dialogue and great delivery. "Just pour me a little bit of a full glass of that rum." I might be enjoying this episode more because I know born-again Christians who annoy me terribly. So, the smack down on such people was really satisfying.
Commentary : Tracks on Reedickyoulous, Hoppy Bunny, and The Marines.
Yay! I was happy to see a return to commentary, since volume 5 didn't have any. The commentaries are funny and have lots of variety. The first is a standard cast & Crew thing, the second had 2 gents who helped write this season that were fired (so there was lots of anger towards the big wigs in it), and the third had a military dude who talked about military goings-ons. All three were funny thanks to Dana Snyder and the last gave an interesting spin on an episode I otherwise didn't enjoy very much (the Marines).
Disc 2 : Houses the 4 never before seen episodes and all of the extras.
Gene E : The Aqua Teen's find a Genie while dumpster diving.
I really, really loved the beginning of the episode. Once they all turn invisible, it goes downhill fast. It seems like they just came up with a plot device that would allow them to just animate objects floating as to save money. The first half or so was genius though, particularly Gene E's actions and the idea to open him up and make a serum from his "Genie Gland".
Shake Like Me : When shake is bitten by a radioactive black man he turns black himself.
Woah. I wasn't expecting the exclusive episodes to have an episode THIS good. It's honestly one of the best ATHF episodes ever made. It was so ridiculously and extremely racist but I just couldn't stop laughing. The inclusion of Boxy Brown to spice up the newly african-americanized Shake plot line was great. It's not an endless stream of black jokes, either, it's an equally racist episode towards whites as well. "Your new name is now..Mocha Shake-a Kahn"

Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Vol. 5 (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)I am the proud owner of all five seasons of ATHF on dvd and i've never been disappointed. This is not the place you'd want to start your collection, though. Start with volume 2 Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 2 or volume 3Aqua Teen Hunger Force - The First Three Volumes.
Volume 5 is for fans of the show only, though the Boost Mobile episode was an instant classic. The show took a bizzarre, edgy and weird-for-the-sake-of-weird turn. It's almost in the tradition of Modernist playwrights like Harold Pinter at times. The episode "Party All The Time" is more art than cartoon, and plays with your emotions more than you thought possible from a "stoner cartoon". This volume proves ATHF is smart, and loves to push the boundaries of TV and the concept of Cartoons in general.
Die hard fans will not be disappointed, but newbies should start elsewhere to learn the ropes.

First of all, they're not teens. Secondly, there's no water involved. That whole Hunger Force thing? That's probably misleading, too. In short, if you have to ask what Aqua Teen Hunger Force is about, it is probably not a show for you. The rest of us will go on thrilling to the adventures of Frylock, Meatwad, and Master Shake as they, you know... hang out.

(More customer reviews)Could of been a lot worse I guess, but I'm not shedding any tears over the show's quick cancellation. The problems with the show is that it tries that formula of mixing quirky family humor for the grown ups with cheap gags for the kiddies but it becomes just one big mess. Also, the children are pretty horrible characters, there's nothing to empathize with especially since they look SO modelled over market research. (Perhaps a comment of the shallow nature of the current video game industry? Unlikely.) They're just smug and self-absorbed but always painted as better people than the parents in the show. UPN's way of trying to be hip I guess. Patrick Warburton is the saving grace of the series and I guess there's a few game references in the first couple of episodes to validate your taste. In the end, nothing really memorable about this series.
