(More customer reviews)I like a lot of the Playboy Exposed DVDs because they're like a sexy reality TV show. To me, a lot of the regular Playboy DVDs are over-produced, so stylized and artsy that they're not realistic any more. Maybe some people like that. But in these 2 DVDs, the girls are mostly just acting normal, with cameras following them around. For the most part, people in them seem to be having a lot of fun too. The main problem with the Playboy Exposed series is that the camerawork and editing are sometimes shoddy. Lighting is sometimes not great either. These 2 DVDs generally have mediocre production values, but "Bachelorette Party" is worse about that, where at times the camera is very shaky and wandering at random. Why didn't they edit more of that out? But dang, there sure are a bunch of sexy girls on there! They're shown at a car wash (in wet t-shirts and flashing), at a clothing store, then at home lying by the pool and stripping for each other inside. It's a plus that the sound is usually live rather than some music track.
"Confessions of a Party Girl" is better filmed and edited, but has less variety since the whole thing is set at a party. Again, it's got very sexy girls in it, with the party scenes of people dancing having a music track, while rooms outside the party, or outside by the pool, usually have live sound. If you like realistic situations as I do, some of the best scenes on here, and indeed on both of these, are when several of the girls are just hanging around nude chatting with each other or doing silly things. They're acting like everything is normal, and I'm going *drool*drool*drool* Another major difference between them is that Bachelorette has only girls in it, while Confessions has several guys added, though they're much de-emphasized.
There's a lot of nudity on both of these, sometimes total and sometimes topless or bottomless. However, there's really no explicit sexual activity on either one. The picture on both is 1.33:1. I hesitated to give these 4 stars because of the rather low production values, and really Bachelorette deserves a 3 because of that, but still I think they're quite hot and worth the money, especially if you can get them discounted.

Playboy - Playmates on the Catwalk (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)Playboy didn't disappoint me this time. After their recent releases being so bad, I ordered this DVD thinking it would be bad, but hoping for a miracle. The video s***ed! It was a complete waste of money.
The video states that it is a fashion show with around twenty eight or twenty nine playmates. While this is true, most of the playmates you see for only seconds. Literally only a few seconds. The video shows clips of the playmates walking up and down the fashion runway. Most of them look more like whores, than the beautiful woman that they truly are. They are wearing so much eye make up that they look really trashy.
The DVD contains about twenty or so segments and the main feature is only 48 minutes long. If you do the math, you can see that each segment is only about two minutes in length. The segments show the fashion designer, Betsey Johnson, meeting the playmates, talking about the costumes designed for the playmates, and various other segments of her views on fashion. I have never heard or seen Betsey Johnson, but trust me, she isn't very pleasant to look at.
There are a few very short segments included in the DVD featuring interviews and nudity of the various playmates. Much of the nudity that is shown are old clips from the playmate's video clip. The new stuff is just the girls talking about how great it is to be in a fashion show. Some of the nudity is new, but it is mainly just the girls flashing in front of the camera. Very tame flashing.
If you would enjoy seeing the playmates dressed up like a bunch of sluts, and see very little nudity, I recommend this video to you. Otherwise, pass on the purchase of this video.

Mystique: Naked Island Race (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)It seemed a good idea to have a kind of treasure-hunt race with sexy models in Belize. Sounded fun to me, and might even provide some ideas for games at a nudist resort. But in the making of this film, apparently the ladies were not told that the title would be "Naked Island Race." I'd estimate they're unclothed maybe 10% of the time, and the rest of the time are mostly covered up with t-shirts and thongs. Why didn't they at least make it bikinis, for crying out loud?! And I'm not so much bothered by the raininess, except that the camera lens often has a lot of water drops on it, and what's the deal with the light in quite a few scenes causing such a bad over-exposure? The ladies in this are nice-looking enough, but it's all quite a dreary result......

Seriously bad, horrible, annoying transition effects - the screen goes to blinging white every thirty seconds, horrible lighting - you just don't use red gels for a relaxing yoga scene - and nearly zero action. the "advanced weapons" portions of the tai chi was outright laughable...a bunch of strippers posing clumsily with obvious prop weapons...
The girls are well-built, any one of them could place in a miss trailer park pageant, but not one of them knows what she is doing or even looks asian for that matter. A few of them are sporting dragon tatoos, if that counts for anything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those martial arts purists (I've alway felt that self defense is best learned by barfighting) but even I was insulted by the performances.
I bought this DVD because I have an enormous TV I never use and wanted something to run constantly and in the background. I figured naked women was more interesting than fish, but this DVD challenges that theory. Even if you aren't looking at it, the lighting and transition effects create an uncomfortable atmosphere in the room. Everybody involved with this DVD (except the models) should be shot.
It fails for atmosphere, fails for vouyerism (get totally nude aerobics instead), fails as instructional material and fails as performance art. Just a waste of time and money.

Playboy Exposed / Naughty & Exotic (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)With the Playboy Exposed series, the production values are not as high as the usual Playboy stuff, yet I often find the Exposed DVDs sexier to watch because of the realism. To me, the usual Playboy DVDs are often very stylized to the point of annoyance. I like these 2 in the Exposed series, although the camerawork and editing are pretty erratic, especially on the Erotic Scavenger Hunt. But WOW, there's LOTS of sexy ladies on both of these! Both run roughly an hour and both are in 1.33:1 picture ratio. The Naughty Girls one shows the girls getting ready for and going to parties in L.A., and ends with a lengthy segment of several girls in a hot tub that's quite sexy. The Scavenger Hunt show has 3 girls doing a scavenger hunt around L.A. (I guess), often getting topless or naked in the process. There's some public flashing here since they often pull up their shirts in stores, out on the street, flashing passing cars, and so on. After a hard day's work of hunting, they go to someone's backyard (wish it had been mine) and strip naked to play with water hoses. One of these girls is really stacked, and all of them are hot for sure! By the way, it's different girls on the 2 shows here, and as for what we see, topless is the most common but there's a good deal of complete nudity on these as well. As far as I know, none of the girls is well known, but I've seen some of them around on shows like these. But as I said, don't expect great production values here - sometimes the wobbly camera is pretty irritating. Despite that, I watch both of these shows pretty often, and I recommend most of the Playboy Exposed series for some good dirty fun.

Suicide Girls - The First Tour (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)"Suicide Girls" started out as just a website to display creator Missy Suicide's "erotic photography." This is a different category than "porn," but I guess at some point it's splitting hairs. If we can place this DVD on a continuum with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or Maxim on one end and "Barely Legal" or "Shaved Asian" on the other, I suppose it would be closer to the former. Of Course, considering most of the Suicide Girls come from the punk subculture, complete with the tattoos and piercings to prove it, that would have to add to the kink factor somewhat. Then again, compared to the "Girls Gone Wild" franchise, SG has a far lower perv factor; i.e. you can watch this without feeling all icky afterward. You may want to put on actual porn, though, so that can be a strike against SG, even though that's hardly their fault. Heck, the girls themselves seem to have a bit more going on in their heads than the "Gone Wild" variety. Actually, in the interview segments that pepper the main attraction of the disc, they have precious little to say to prove this, but they just seem smarter. I mean, they HAVE to be smarter, don't they?
As for what you actually get for your hard earned perv budget, the main thing is a 94 minute "documentary" of the girls as they embark on a cross-country tour of burlesque shows, usually in venues normally reserved for music. Within that are profiles of the various girls on the tour: a short "interview" gives way to a short example of their stage routine (pasties and duct tape are involved) gives way to a filmed photo shoot (this time without the pasties and duct tape, thankyouverymuch). There's plenty of music to accompany the segments, not all of it punk. A complete listing in teeny-tiny print can be found underneath the disc's back cover. But wait, there's more! You can also watch the movie without the interview segments, which cuts down on the running time considerably. An interview with Missy is the closest you'll get to actual information here, as she discusses what she was trying to do with the site, which was present "real" girls of all shapes, sizes and body modifications in a "sexy" manner. Mind you, by all sizes they seem to run the gamut from thin to really thin, though at least none of them seem to have much interest in implants, which works for me.
The rest of the disc has some mildly fun outtakes and a music video by Probot featuring some Suicide Girls which is much better with the mute button. I guess if Missy is serious about expanding the franchise, we can expect calendars, books and, one would guess, "Toys." There's already a CD of some of the girl's favorite goth tunes, so I guess the sky's the limit.
So while you can expect to have fun with this, don't expect your life to be changed or anything. On the down side, this disc may cause a serious medical condition with the scientific name of "Blue Balls." Fortunately, there are all sorts of web sites where this can be cured. Or so I'm told.

Survival Island (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)The original title for this late night cinemax fare was "Three" and it is the brain child of Billy Zane and his (real) wife Kelly Brook who both co-star in this by the numbers thriller. So as for the plot we have a rich couple (Zane and Brook) on a fishing trip with friends. The boat promptly sinks and the couple, along with the poor deck hand Pablo, wash ashore on a deserted island with no food, and a few supplies. Most notably goggles, a lighter, and obviously plenty of razors and shaving supplies as throughout their long stay on the island they all appear perfectly groomed. The laws of late night cimemax kick in and a love triangle developes with the expected results. I was entertained on my first viewing, mostly due to topless Kelly Brook and as another viewer mentions, there is a twist at the end. Overall this effort by Zane and Brook is a notch above the standard late night cinemax flick. I give three stars to "Three."

Just so you are aware, this IS erotica. The naughty tales are well written, for the most part, and several are very good. The entire series was written and produced by women, FOR women.

The production values are painfully low, the plots and dialog are bare-bones, and the actors are stilted and unattractive. It's just like porn for men, only the camera never strays below the waistline.
I was particularly interested in the story about the woman who seduces her blind piano tuner. He was actually pretty good looking, but terrible at playing blind, not convincing at all. The woman was older and not attractive. I believe older women can be sexy on film, but at least give her something better to wear than foundational undergarments. It was a good premise, mildly entertaining, but overall not very well executed.

Bliss - The Complete First Season (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)I was introduced to Bliss by the latenight lineup on the Oxygen channel, and I have to say, I cannot get enough. I'm missing precious sleep staying up to watch the episodes, and I really should just buy the darn thing, because you can watch the episodes time and time again. They're that good.
The show boasts being written, produced, directed, etc. by women, for women. That's nice- gives it a woman's perspective, I suppose- but this knowledge would mean nothing if the product wasn't superior. It is. I don't know if that's because of the women making it, but the end result is stunning.
Perhaps my favorite thing about this is that it ISN'T porn. I'm not against porn. It serves a purpose. But, first and foremost, I really don't enjoy seeing genitals. It's just not my thing. Buttocks- fine and titillating. Breasts, sure. Close-up almost peeks at pubic hair, a clothed erection or one in shadowy profile- hot. But I disdain the actual genital (erect being one grade worse than a flaccid nude shot). It makes me feel dirty. I don't know; maybe other women like that. Let them go for Playgirl- you get your fair share of that while maintaining the erotic/romantic side. But Bliss will only give you shots of the buttocks. To me, it's less sleazy, but still undeniably hot.
The second thing Bliss has is great stories. This NOT being porn, it's not all about the action, but puts things into context. And yet that context isn't just pizza guy delivers, and we've got no way to pay him, so start the sex! I can honestly say there are real issues at stake in every episode- women, and their men, struggling to come to terms with women wanting bondage, voyeurism, etc.. Trying to deal with plain sex vs. a relationship. And so on. My only complaint is that a half-hour is really too short for the shows. An hour would give them time to build complexity, evolve characters, and maybe cram in a bit more heat. Plus, many episodes end a little vaguely.
Anyways, the cinematography is lovely, the actors are all very attractive, and, unlike porn or other low-grade stuff, the acting here is very believable and watchable. If you catch it on a non-sexy scene, you would think it's just another nighttime drama. The stories are real but explicit and hot, and execution is perfect. I can't think of a better erotic DVD.
