(More customer reviews)Originally aired in 2007 as a tv movie on ABC Family's "25 Days of Christmas" package, Christina Milian stars as a harried single woman living in the same apartment building as her overbearing Italian mother, played by the Soprano's shrink Lorraine Bracco. Christina works at her mother's deli as well, and fantasizes about escaping to the perfect community. A package arrives for her that contains a mysterious snowglobe. One night after her family tries to take over her apartment, even trying to force her to move to a smaller apartment in the building, she retreats to her bedroom to study her newfound toy. She shakes it, and is magically transported to a "perfect" place, where everyday is preparing for Christmas. But soon she begins to realize it's not so perfect after all, though nothing sinister is going on. Then her friend in this fantasy land manages to come through to her world, and the misadventures begin. Along the way, she realizes her life isn't so bad after all, and her boyfriend in real life might just be Mr. Right.
Although children under 10 might not understand Christina's adult problems, it should be suitable for all family members.

(More customer reviews)My family LOVES this movie! It's the first one we choose at the start of the Christmas season. I really don't understand the negative reviews. It's clean, funny, and in a beautiful setting. It's made for TV (abc family), which we like because there is more of a chance we can all watch together (parents in 40's, 10-yr-old son, and grandmother). I will admit, the DVD version is slightly different from the TV version (we liked the TV one better), but it didn't stop us from buying a copy. Give it a chance!

Holiday in Handcuffs (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)I have liked Melissa Joan Hart since her days on Clarissa Explains It All so I was pleased to see she was back on TV again. This movie takes place at Christmas time and is basically a story about a woman who sees herself as a failure through her family's eyes and is hoping that bringing home her successful boyfriend for Christmas will prove she finally got something right, until he dumps her Christmas Eve and leaves her hanging.
She sees a very handsome man at the diner where she is working and tells her mom everything is hunky dory and kidnaps the handsome guy and takes him hostage (hence the handcuffs). From here the plot unravels in the typical romantic comedy faire where he is trying to convince everyone he's been kidnapped and she says it's a kind of joke he likes to play and we all get our happy ending. As I have said, it is the typically romantic comedy plot but there are some very funny moments and I can definitely see myself watching this movie again. If you like MJH, you will enjoy this movie.

Acceptable Risk (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)Robin Cook is the prolific author of several medical thrillers, in which medicine goes wrong, and the hero/heroine have to face the dire consequences. In ACCEPTABLE RISK, we are introduced to the story via a 1709 hanging of a woman suspected of being a witch. In fact, twelve of these damsels hung that day. Fast forward to the future and we meet idealistic Dr. Chad Rowe, and his lovely wife, Kelly Rutherford who have just inherited the house of the long dead witch. While renovating the house, Lowe discovers a shimmery mold and takes it to his lab, and finds out it has some unusually powerful capabilities: it intensifies his emotions, and seems to cure brain damage such as in Alzheimers. He secretly starts ingesting the formula he's made from the mold, called Ultra, and starts experiencing some of these effects. Needless to say, things start going wrong, and then he decides to enlist other team members to come up with a viable potion.
Lowe and Rutherford do well in their roles, Rutherford looking like a young Judith Light, and Lowe a young Rob Lowe. (Ha ha). Add Sean Patrick Flannery as friend Bobby, who seems to have been a little loose cannon anyway, and you have the ingredients for medical mayhem.
This is a made for TV movie, but its production values are good and I found it intriguing and entertaining.

Mary Christmas (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this movie a month ago and have watched it four times already! It stands up to it. This is a rare find. The story has a touch of Santa-magic about it, but is not ridiculously unreal. And the underlying story--about a child who wants a mommy for Christmas--is compelling and heartwarming. The remarkable thing is that this is done so well. None of the hostility and bad casting that add a sour note to other Christmas movies. Also, if the mother-daughter story is especially poignant for you, read the novel A Thanksgiving Miracle). This movie will renew your faith in just about everything and give you a positive outlook to face another day.

Proving to their families that their in love is funny beyond words and sound find as they get to know each other better it'll be up to them to realize true love is in the air before the conscience calls off their engagement.

(More customer reviews)All The Winters That Have Been is a compelling story , based on the novel written by Evan Maxwell. It is divided in two parts, each containing a strong message. In the first part, agent Dane Corvin (Richard Chamberlain) is posing as a businessman interested in buying fish illegally caught by members of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. A law passed to limit fishing and protect fish resources in the area makes it impossible for this community to continue living from their traditional salmon and shellfish fisheries if they do not resort to poaching . Although it is true that the Swinomish violate the law on fishing, this law does not take into account the fact that they have always made a living out of fishing and cannot survive without. Dane Corvin, who falls in love with the half Swinomish and half Irish Hannah ( Karen Allen), understands the plight of the Swinomish but fails to postpone the operation. The arrest of Hannah's brother puts an end to Dane's and Hannah's relationship leaving both characters deeply hurt.
The second part starts when 20 years later Dane Corvin comes back to the area to visit his dying uncle (Hal Holbrook) whose last wish is to bring Dane and Hannah together again. Dane who has been hurting and missing Hannah for 20 years has taken refuge in his loneliness that keeps him most of the time in Alaska for preservation campaigns in favor of bears and wolves. Hannah who has become an important artist and whose art contributes to the development and well-being of the Swinomish community, has moved on with her life and her secret. Hannah unconsciously has forgiven Dane but circumstances prevent her from verbalizing her forgiveness. She has to meet Dane again in order to listen to her heart, accept her love for him and tell him her secret. It is now Dane's turn to find in his heart and soul how to reconcile all the elements of his shattered life and so make forgiveness and love the main messages of the second part of the movie.
The great director, Lamont Johnson, ( who directed Richard Chamberlain in several episodes of Dr Kildare in the early 60s and in Wallenberg in 1985) succeeds in making a movie with a quick sequence of scenes that follow each other very smoothly but allows at the same time the actors to make great performances and fully take advantage of the dialog that sounds in some instances like a theater play...Richard Chamberlain, Karen Allen and Hal Holbrook are magnificent, sober intensity is the key word for their acting in a movie that allies hard facts of life with tenderness, romance, love and forgiveness. Beautiful locations in British Columbia, excellent lighting and spectacular photography - you really feel the cutting touch of the crisp air blowing from the bright blue sea and you smell the fresh fragrance of the dark green spruces - are an added reason why I like to watch and re-watch this movie. The sunset light that embraces with its magic aura Dane standing on the porch briefly reminds a scene of Marcel Camus renowned Orfeo Negro of 1959.

(More customer reviews)I'm more of an "Aliens" sort of girl than a romance fan, but I have to admit to absolutely loving this movie. I guess I'm just a sappy romantic at heart. This film's been airing on the Hallmark Channel, and I find myself watching it over and over, to the point where I came here to find out if it was on DVD. Thank goodness it is!
I particularly appreciated the cinematography and settings, and well... okay. I really appreciated Andrew McCarthy in his jeans. :) As a mustang adopter and advocate, I can't say that the depiction of mustangs and the BLM (called the "DLM" in the film) is really terribly accurate, but I'm EXTREMELY gratified to see a film even approaching the question of wild horse management in such a positive way. (Of course, when it comes to training mustangs, I wouldn't try this at home; while we see Tyler using some pretty decent training methods, he's also working with a domestic quarter horse rather than a range-fresh mustang; the real thing doesn't tend to go that fast or easy. ;))
I think they did a nice job of making the characters both believable and likeable, and the various conflicts and situations actually make sense, unlike too many films where things could just be resolved if the characters would stop behaving like morons. :) Andrew McCarthy does a really nice job as a gruff cowboy type... and he certainly sits a horse well, too.

(More customer reviews)I caught this movie on TV last year and thought it was very cute-- just like those romance novels I read. So, when it came out on DVD, I had to buy it.
She is the girl-next-door type who made a wish a long time ago for a boyfriend for Christmas and has pretty much given up on the wish ever coming true. He is a workaholic attorney whose path happens to cross hers--- and not in the best way. A little mistaken identity and holiday magic help the two fall in love. But, once the true identity is revealed, will all bets be off? You'll have to watch and see.
I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't found myself thinking, "How did they get so much time off from work during the holidays?" (smile)
A delightful movie. Perfect for a chilly night when you need some help getting over your own bah humbug feelings.

Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)This film was originally shown on the Hallmark channel in 2004 and I know it is being repeated this year. It's a sappy charmer but the best Christmas movies tend to be sappy charmers anyway and this one does a very good job. The movie stars Steve Guttenberg who had really kind of disappeared for a few years but seems to be making a but of a comeback even if it's not in A features.
Guttenberg is Nick, the son of Santa Claus. His dad is retiring and Nick is going to take over the job but before he can he has to find a Mrs. Claus. Now obviously this is same plot used in the Santa Clause 2 so while it's not terribly original, it's pulled off well for a TV movie. Anyway he heads to Southern California where he eventually meets Beth played by Crystal Bernard. He of coruse has to win Beth over and convince her to believe in Santa. Beth is a hard-working career woman, widower, and mother who has a son named Jake. She works for an ad agency and Nick actually plays Santa in commercials that the company does. Well of course you know how the film turns out, right?
Guttenberg is always a likable guy and brings a regular guy charm to his roles. Bernard is equally likable, always playing the nice girl. It's a good family picture. Hallmark had made a sequel called "Meet the Santas" which should be popping up any day now. As they say...check your listings!

Angel in the Family (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)This movie is a find! It manages to deal with real people in a realistic way without resorting to the usual easy gimmick of making the people nasty and hostile. The people here are not perfect, but they are sympathetic.
Also, the relationships in this family are very realistic--again without making anyone a pain or an impossible person. Whoever wrote this had a lot of understanding of the relations between grown siblings and between grown children and their parents.
The film also explores some of the big questions of life and how important "little things" are in those big questions. The mother's admitting that she gave an incomplete version of her recipe to a friend who had admired the dish, and that she had been bothered by that and wants to make it right--this was priceless. Also, her determination to return the library book!
The transitions of the characters are well-developed and believable. They manage to work things out without everyone suddenly becoming angelic creatures without a fault in the world.
If you like human dramas about real but decent people, this is not a film to be missed. There are all too few like it.

(More customer reviews)I'm usually not so sappy when it comes to Christmas movies, but I loved this movie.
A beautiful woman sends Christmas cards to the troops, with pictures of her hometown. A sergeant receives one of these cards and after going on leave following a fellow soldier's death, he finds himself in Washington timber country. I loved the cute little scenes in the diner where they both find they love curly fries and the tasteful flirtations. The church scene was so nostalgic and made me want to head straight to church. The only disbelieving part was where she breaks up with her shallow fiance and he takes it so well and gentlemanly.
A Boyfriend for Christmas and Eve's Christmas are also movies I've seen recently that I'm also purchasing. Take a look at them as well.
