(More customer reviews)Many have accused John Waters of kissing up to the mainstream for the past decade or so, starting with "Cry Baby" and "Hairspray," with their less than shocking view of the world. Where, they cried, is the delightfully perverse brain that gave us "Pink Flamingos?"
Be careful what you wish for, because "A Dirty Shame" will bring it all back home. Perfectly cast, brilliantly acted and a total grossfest, this is the best and most outragous movie Waters has done since, well, "Female Trouble." Tracy Ullman and Chris Isaak play the Sticklers, a pair of "neuters" who are completely against all things sexual. A chance accident makes Ullman a sex-addict to the church of Johnny Knoxville (who finally proves himself a movie star here) and his merry band of perverts. If there's a fetish that can be exploited or made disgusting, you'll see it here.
There are so many laugh out loud sexploits here, that I can't even begin to describe them. You'll be wincing as you laugh, as the moments accelerate in the movie from funny -- to weirder and funny -- to beyond the bizarre. You'll hear Tracy Ullman describe oral behavior in so many ways that you'll lose track. You'll discover what a "bear" is. You'll see Chris Isaak leer so salaciously that you'll wonder what directions were being given behind the camera. And you'll hear so many hysterical 50's and 60's sexually oriented novelty songs that you'll be looking for the soundtrack by the end of the week.
A word of warning though. If you are in the least bit prudish, then "A Dirty Shame" will have you fleeing the movie in mortal terror. Now if THAT sounds like the kind of NC-17 rated 90 minutes of comedy that would delight you, then you need a little "Shame" in your life.

Jailbait (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)Let me just say that I absolutely LOVED this movie. And let me also say that have left my teen years some 20 years ago. I am 33 and usually hate to have to suffer through any teen-oriented comedy like "American Pie" I saw recently which I found hopelessly unfunny, boring and stupid. And most of the time, I don't even bother to try watching any other recent films dealing with young people's awakening about sex issues.
This said, I happened to catch "Jailbait" on cable recently and was instantly sucked into the deeply effective editing and camera work involved, along with the very satirical directing and performances. Even though the subject of statuary rape is a serious one, here it is treated in such a way that there is an awareness of the fact that this is high camp cinema and nothing depicted should be treated seriously.
I was particularly impressed with the two young leads which have been brilliantly directed into delivering performances that are in total harmony with the whole tone of the movie. This is a movie making fun of the whole "teen-movies phenomenon" all the while being totally aware of the fact that it is itself a "teen movie" but destined towards a more mature audience.
Many potentially offensive subjects here treated as jokes but the director was brilliant enough to let us the audience see that this is a movie who doesn't take itself seriously. Everything is so farfetched (with often hilarious results) that it tells us that the filmmaker expected nothing else than entertaining its audience with outrageous but finely tuned acting parodies and well-crafted camera work.
I have seen many teen movies such as "Scary Movie" I and II, "American Pie" I and II and none of them compares to the wit and cleverness "Jailbait" displays. A satire is probably the most difficult thing to achieve in cinema. It has to contain a balance between outrageous stunts and self awareness. Most teen movies pile up the gross factor, hoping to make audiences laugh. But here, even though no joke cliché is left unturned, it is done in a constant parody mode which I truly enjoyed.
I don't know why the reviews here were so negative regarding this little jem. Perhaps as I said before, this is probably a movie adult would enjoy more than teenagers. I for one, who is a very harsh critic concerning movies, found this one able to do what most films can't: entertain the hell out of me...

Playboy - Barefoot Beauties (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)If you're a true foot/leg fan and you enjoyed the printed Barefoot Beauties photo books you'll be very disapointed by this DVD. The girls are beautiful and most have very attractive feet/toes, but the scenes are 80% ..., faces & torsos.
Amazingly in many scenes during a closeup they cut the off half the foot or entirely from the ankle down. Many scenes they do a long pan down the leg and as soon as they get to the foot they do a quick blur past it.
It's obvious they didn't shoot the scenes specifically for this title, but rather rounded up existing footage that showed a little more leg/feet/toes than normal (which for Playboy is minimal anyway). I've seen more feet/toes in their regular videos like the first Girlfriends.
Playboy had a great opportunity here but they only understand their mainstream market. They've always had trouble with niche and fetish fans.
