(More customer reviews)I teach school in L.A. and this is a great video to make the students think and ask questions. You can show the entire video at once or just show sections at a time. The video is Awsome but make sure you watch it before lunch. Some of the video might be difficult for people with weak stomachs.

Since then, this off-Broadway one-person play has since been featured in many parts of the world. Her words give women the power to be more open about their vaginas, an organ that some unfortunately call taboo to express. This fearless performer offers humor, wit, and serious to certain issues, all in the correct areas. She gives new meaning to issues beyond the vagina with more than just her words. Her vocal expressions empower them tremendously. She also expresses great pride to the female orgasm, masturbation, lesbianism, and reclaiming certain offensive words. Amazingly, she performs the entire piece sitting down. Most performers don't do that.
Each individual monologue tells its individual story beautifully and expressively. The featured interviews give multiple perspectives to each issue. Whether they are humorous (looking "down there", sex, orgasmic sounds) or touching (rape, witnessing birth), all have the empowering impact that forces audiences to look beyond themselves. Therefore, "The Vagina Monologues" is recommended for everyone. Though nothing beats the live experience, this DVD recollects this piece beautifully. This will surely be an unforgettable and educating experience for many.

(what does the baby look like now to how will it come out) We sat all four of them down (ages 3 to 11) in front of it. They all enjoyed it and got their questions answered better than we had answered them. Good Show from National Geographic - 5 stars

Masters of Horror: Imprint (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)Having viewed the entire "Masters of Horror" series, I was curious to see this episode that was "Banned From Cable Broadcast." It seems pretty silly in this day and age that something is "banned" from pay TV, and it's not as if Takeshi Miike doesn't have his films shown over here! But, OK, whatever. Miike is a colorful director who specialize in squeamish, sometimes graphic, torture horror. Probably his biggest film stateside is "Audition" which is certainly noteworthy, but my personal favorite is the bizarre musical "Happiness of the Katakuris" (currently out of print, but worth locating if you like absurd comedy).
So on to "Imprint." I'm pleased to say that "Imprint" is actually one of the stronger entries in the series. And seeing how dismal the first couple of episodes in season 2 are (it is currently broadcasting), I'm disappointed this wasn't made available. As the story begins, we're traveling down a river of death to an island of demons and prostitutes--and I was scared this episode would rapidly devolve into supernatural mumbo jumbo. It settles, however, into a two character drama with one of the disfigured prostitutes relating the story of the visitor's lost love. It's a fascinating tale that continues to evolve the more the guest presses for the truth. And the revelations are satisfying, if bizarre. I enjoyed this lurid tale very much.
Along the way, we get torture and plenty of abortions--and I suppose that is the controversial nature of this film (the abortions, I mean--violence is never controversial). No one, however, watching "Masters of Horror" would be the least bit put out by these scenes. If you are expecting something you've never seen before--there's nothing in "Imprint" that going to particularly shock you. But that said, it is definitely an accomplished and disturbing tale worth taking a look at. KGHarris, 11/06.

Masters of Horror: Pro-Life (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)John Carpenter returns to Showtime's "Masters of Horror" series with Season 2's offering "Pro-Life." As with most anthology series, the quality of any given episode and the reaction to it can be widely divergent. Carpenter's entry from last season, "Cigarette Burns," is one of its most divisive. It is regarded in some circles as the best the show had to offer and dismissed out of hand by others. I fell somewhere in between the debate ranking it in the middle/upper part of the pack.
Intriguingly enough, the Takeshi Miike episode banned from Season 1 involved a storyline revolving around abortions. "Pro-Life," as you might guess from the title, also has this as a major theme. But don't worry, this is no heavy handed diatribe--it's light and loose but still has some sting to its barbs. This is a brand of horror that I like to think of as "everything but the kitchen sink." It is a social satire and a commentary on pro-life extremists--but it also throws in a grisly birth, a massive gun fight, torture, a insectile creature with a baby head, a chasm to an alternate world, and what appears to be the devil himself. In other words, I pretty much loved it! Easily one of the more entertaining episodes, no one will confuse this with great art--but it's a whole lot of fun.
The action gets going when a doctor from a local abortion clinic almost runs down a young girl fleeing from an unknown pursuer. Taking her into the hospital to make sure she's all right, she confesses to being pregnant. She thinks God has brought her here to get an abortion. Her father ends up at the front gate demanding her return, he is a pro-life activist who has had previous run-ins with this establishment. What follows include a revelation about the unnatural origins of the fetus, a supernaturally fast pregnancy cycle, and a battle for the father to save his unborn grandchild.
There is lots of humor in "Pro-Life," plenty of gore, and some crazy creatures. Ron Perlman and Caitlin Wachs are particularly effective as the pregnant girl and her father. For sheer loony entertainment value, this gets high marks for me. KGHarris, 12/06.
