Lexx: Series 3 V-2 (2000) Review

Lexx: Series 3 V-2 (2000)

The first season is the best but the second season is quite good. Pay attention to the other "real people" that have reviewed it. First of all LEXX was out long before Farscape so the ridiculous line about sound familiar is out of context. LEXX is unique in its approach to SciFi. It is far more graphic in violence and erotic behavior than other series you will see. I have purchased the first two seasons on DVD since I think they are the best. The rest are worth seeing but I am not sure about buying.

Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Boxed Set (2002) Review

Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Boxed Set (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Another great Season of Stargate SG-1. If you are here, then I don't have to tell you that! I always search everywhere on the internet and try to get some advance notice about DVD releases. As with the prior seasons, the format is Widescreen anamorphic - 1.78:1 and the audio is Dolby Digital 5.1. Disappointingly, MGM's site had very little information. I especially wanted to find out what the "Director Series" is in the extras. I could not find out too much. Only one website had this description: The Director Series features give insight into the working day of the director on issues such as script development, prop and set creation.
Here is an episode guide, with a tiny description.
1. Redemption - Part 1: The Stargate malfunctions and threatens to destroy all life on Earth.
2. Redemption - Part 2: Teal'c and Ryac decide to destroy the weapon that has turned the Stargate into a bomb.
3. Descent: After being ambushed, Carter and an SG-1 team crash into the Pacific Ocean.
4. Frozen: A woman who has been frozen for thousands of years is thawed and returns to life, infecting the others with a deadly virus.
5. Nightwalkers: Immunitech is implanting Gou'ald symbiotes into the citizens of an Oregon town.
6. Abyss: Jack is captured and tortured by the Gou'ald. Daniel Jackson's ghost returns to help him.
7. Shadowplay: The Kelownans, who are from Jonas's home planet, negotiate for Earth's superior military technology. Dr. Kieran, a Kelownan scientist, tells Jonas that he is part of a resistance movement trying to save the planet.
8. The Other Guys: Felger and Coombs try to rescue an SG-1 team, who was taken captive by the Gou'ald.
9. Allegiance: Artok is suspected of Ocker's murder, and then is murdered himself.
10. Cure: The Pangerans offer to trade the secret of a miracle drug for instruction in how to use a gate. However, there is a problem with the drug.
11. Prometheus - Part 1: Operatives posing as camera crew hijack a new spacecraft that combines human with alien technology.
12. Unnatural Selection - Part 2: Replicators have overrun an Asgard world and created a time distortion there.
13. Sight Unseen: An ancient artifact from another planet is responsible for the spread of a contagious "disease" on Earth.
14. Smoke and Mirrors: Senator Kinsey is assassinated by a man who looks like Colonel Jack O'Neill.
15. Paradise Lost: Colonel Maybourne and Colonel O'Neill end up on a planet that Maybourne says is a secret alien paradise.
16. Metamorphosis: Gou'ald queen, Nirrti, may be creating a race of super human warriors through the manipulation of DNA.
17. Disclosure: The U.S. and Russia disclose the existence of Stargate to the United Kingdom, France, and China.
18. Forsaken: SG-1 finds three human survivors on another planet that are under attack, seemingly without a reason.
19. The Changeling: Teal'c believes he has lost his symbiote.
20. Memento: The SG-1 team hear of a mythical Stargate on an inhabited planet.
21. Prophecy: The citizens of an alien planet believe that the SG-1 team have arrived to fulfill an ancient prophecy to free them from tyranny.
22. Full Circle: The ghost of Daniel Jackson tells O'neill that Anubis is scheming to steal the Eye of Ra.

Stargate SG-1 Season 5 Boxed Set (2001) Review

Stargate SG-1 Season 5 Boxed Set (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know this isn't everyone's opinion, but for me, each season gets better and better. Writers and actors get to know the characters and a story more when they've made over 100 episodes with them. (Episode 100 is included in this set, an episode where the writers just decide to mess around and have a good time)
Season 5 introduces some very key characters and situations:
--Colonol Frank Simmons
--Explanation of the ascended being ("Ascention" and "Meridian")
--The jaffa rebellion ("The Warrior")
--Further Russian entanglements including the fate of the Earth DHD ("48 Hours")
--The introduction of Anubis ("Last Stand," "Revelations")
--The fate of the Tollan ("Between Two Fires")
--The temperary departure of Michael Shanks ("Meridian")
--The method of Asguard reproduction ("Revelations")
--Jonas Quinn ("Meridian")
All of these situations play key in the epic saga of the Stargate universe, providing for plot variations and new ideas in later seasons. The new ideas are still there. The humor is still there. Over 100 episodes in, Stargate is still going strong in this collection.
I am looking forward to adding this 5th boxed set to my other four boxed sets.
I enjoyed Season 6 even better. Season 7 is still blowing my mind. Let's have those as boxed sets soon as well.

Andromeda Season 1 - Vol. 4 (2000) Review

Andromeda Season 1 - Vol. 4 (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Andromeda DVDs have been somewhat of a disappointment to me, this one, 1.4 more so then the other. The episodes themselves are in wonderful quality and are the main reason I bought the DVD.
However the limited number of episodes on each disk is appalling. And the extras on it, doesn't even come close to making up for the lack of them. The bloopers were short, and were mostly of Kevin Sorbo. The behind the scenes of the alien makeup seemed promising, however was less then five minutes. And then there was the fact that I could never find the commentary for "Fear & Loathing in the Milky Way."
So my advice to you is, if you are truly an Andromeda fan, then this is something for you. But be prepared for disappointment.

Star Trek Enterprise - The Complete Fourth Season (2001) Review

Star Trek Enterprise - The Complete Fourth Season (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The fourth season of Star Trek Enterprise was the season that most Trekkers have been waiting for, with homages to the original series(Mirror Universe,The Eugenics Wars,Orion slave women,T'Pau), as well as rectifying continuety errors(The Vulcans,The Klingon "forehead" issue).Unfortunately, the show was cancelled prematurely as the show was becoming what Trekkers been waiting for since "Broken Bow".
One of the biggest contributing factors for the success of the fourth season was supervising producer Manny Coto,an original series fanatic who brought Enterprise back on the right tracks as far back as season three.Sensing that the show wasn't going to see a fifth season,Executive producer Rick Berman handed the reins to Coto, who set about in correcting the many elements in Trek history that have been disregarded, which drove away even the most dedicated fan.
The season's format was tweaked to make room for multi episode arcs which dealt separately with The Eugenics Wars(The Augment trilogy featuring Brent Spiner as Arik Soong),A Vulcan Civil War(featuring Surak, and T'Pau),A Klingon Virus (resulting in the humanoid Klingon foreheads from the original series), and the mirror universe featuring the USS Defiant from The Tholian Web.
One of the biggest disappointments of the season itself was the final episode "..These Are The Voyages" which takes place on the Enterprise-D, featuring Riker and Troi.Instead of giving the NX-01 crew a dignified send off, they were used supporting characters in a glorified "Next Generation" episode.
The finale (written by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga) was called a "Valentine to the fans".But the real valentine was the entire fourth season which finally gave the fans what they wanted, and the most problematic Star Trek series a dignified ending, dispite it's weak finale.

Stargate Atlantis - The Complete First Season (2004)
Average Reviews:

Yes this show isn't SG-1 and sadly some people can't seem to get pass that. The show is different enough from Sg-1 that it can hold its own and not be considered a rip-off or a clone yet retain the same Stargate feel that SG-1 has. This show is actually what rekindled my interest in the Stargate franchise, you've got characters that actually aren't perfect, that make mistakes and are easy to relate to. There mostly ordinary people in an extraordinary situation where they slowly come togethor and become a family of sorts. The strength of this show is the character development, which actually is even more noticeable in the second season but the first season does a pretty good job. Probably the best episodes story wise are Before I Sleep and Letter from Pegasus which are perhaps the best clip show episodes ive seen in the Stargate franchise.
If you can accept that this show isn't actually SG-1 and really we don't need two Sg-1's bcse we already have one, try this show out, you might enjoy it. The show has fun, attractive and real characters that actually grow and change and there is reasonable continuity theoughout the season which is important to you if you don't like shows that you leave you guessing for a long time.

Andromeda (Volume 1) (2000) Review

Andromeda (Volume 1) (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The dialogue in the first ten minutes "There are too many of them!" and "It's our only chance (hope?)" peg the script writer as a student at the George Lucas School of Scriptwriting (correspondence only). The starship (who is a machine, let us not forget)wants to look like a sexy babe with a lot of cleavage showing prominently. Would that 'look' really appeal to a machine - wouldn't it want to be metallic and oily? Besides, the 'living ship' idea is done so much better in Farscape. So I wonder if I have wasted my money.
However, Kevin Sorbo is a surprise - a better actor than our lad in Farscape (who only looks sober and/or confused most of the time). Sorbo's athleticism adds a reality to the fight scenes and he seems totally dedicated to his dream of reuniting millions of worlds (unrealistic as that seems in the face of our inability to unite even a portion of our planet).
Tyr is tremendously sexy, especially when given a chance. And the other characters are off-beat enough to be interesting. Except for the furball - they really should have gone to see Brian Henson on that one - the mask looks like a mask - it never moves. And the spraying is inconsistent with his Zen-like character (who seems more Catholic with his confession and absolution stuff - poor fellow). He won't kill anyone, but he will torture them? Come on.
Are we still going to be riding motorcycles with windscreens 12,000 years from now? Will people from another planet be quoting the Bible about "Reaping the whirlwind" - wouldn't they be quoting Neitzsce instead (sp?)? The anachronisms boggle.
So I bought the next set. So I'm hooked anyway. So sue me.

I have watched only 3 of 10 seasons so far & have 5 disc that skip/freeze during playback. After problems with first couple of discs, I inspected the entire set & found at least 15 discs that are dirty, scratched over entire surface or deeply pitted. This did not happen during shipping- they came from the Factory like this. Definitely not something you expect to find in NEW DVDs. So please inspect your set ASAP before time runs out to request a replacement/refund from Amazon. I have requested a replacement today and hopefully this set will be in good condition.
