This is a classic performacne by a classy lady. Her voice sounds only slightly older than it did in her one woman show The Lady and Her Music. However in terms of viewing pleasure one might prefer to listen to the CD of the same title as viewing this video may not be as exciting to watch as her one woman show. But the description of this DVD says it was her last performance. Not true. She was doing some kind of live performance in 1996, as it says 'Rehersal 1996' on her PBS Biography "In Her Own Voice". Also she did appear on the Rosie O'Donnell show in 1998 to promote her Being Myself album. And I read on the internet that she did a brief show for J&R music in New York for BET to promote that album. So this DVD may be her last recorded performance, but it wasn't her last. However Lena fans should still enjoy this video. Too bad she doesn't have more videos done in the 1980's and 1990's. I did read that she did a concert in 1989 on PBS, perhaps to promote her "The Men In My Life album", released in 1988. Maybe that can be put on DVD. Hopefully The Lady and Her Music will oneday come to DVD.

Two days after her two triumphant sold-out Carnegie Hall concerts, Lena Horne took the same show into New York City's Supper Club to be videotaped for a special on the Arts & Entertainment Network. Her quintet with Donald Harrison, Mike Renzi & Rodney Jones was augmented by the Count Basie Orchestra for four songs. Ms. Horne was in great spirits and brilliant form and this show turned out to be her last public performance. After one more studio album a year later, Lena Horne made good on her pledge to retire.Like everything else she did, she left in style with this stunning 72 minute performance.
