Hello.
Listen. you probably saw a show called "Ancient Aliens" on The History Channel recently and thought it was cool, so you wanted to buy the DVD. Well, I was the same way. BUT, this isn't it! I bought this DVD and it's OLD. It just has the same name as the other one that was more recent. The one you want is also called "Ancient Aliens" but it hasn't come out yet. Check the History Channels website and do a search there. The cover you want has a silver UFO and a crop circle animal looking thing. I just want to save people from doing what I did.

Join the worlds leading UFO experts including the authors of the bestselling Alien Identities and Fingerprints of the Gods for an extraordinary investigation that journeys through human history in search of evidence of alien contact. Why do so many structures, from different societies worldwide, seem to point towards the same spot in the skies? What other possible explanation is there for the frequent references to strange flying objects in ancient texts? Do some clues point to the presence of aliens among the ancients themselves? Riverworld (2003) Review

Riverworld (2003)
Average Reviews:

It's a shame that this movie has been so slated by the critics, I really liked it and it's a double shame that a series didn't come out of it, because it was left wide open for that at the end of the movie.
All in all we have a good story-line and some very competent international actors and actresses.
Our main protagonist and hero is a man called Jeff Hale (a sexy American in the guise of Brad Johnson), once an astronaut who died in a crash and is reborn out of a bubble that is pierced with a spear along with other people who have lived throughout most of human history and who have somehow ended up on a mysterious planet called 'Riverworld'.
It seems that anyone who has ever lived and died on Earth comes to Riverworld rather than an afterlife and this does not exclude other world beings either. An extra-terrestrial call Monat (Brian Moore) has the unfortunate luck of dying on earth in 2039 when his space craft crashed and he too is "reborn" to Riverworld and all its mysteries and secrets.
The humans which include Emily Lloyd as Alice Liddell Hardgreaves, an African Priestess call Mali, (Karen Holness) and one Alien are pretty much left to their own devices and as you can imagine they end up becoming quite tribal in their outlook, especially as the Emperor Nero (the English actor Jonathan Cake looking pretty hot despite being a baddie!) has been reborn and he's looking to rule the "new born ones" in the only way he knows how, through the blade and sheer brutality,
A few of the "new born ones" get together and with Hale lead a revolt against Nero and in a river-boat designed by the mysterious Sam (Australian actor Cameron Daddo) set off to explore this mysterious new world made up of connecting rivers that lead to.....?
There is also a race of black hooded 'beings' who seem to have some sort of cosmic plan for the rebels in the riverboat but we aren't privy to what it is and this is a little irritating as there is no sequel to explain it all but that is what happens when a pilot movies flops.
All the same I really enjoyed this, and there is a nice little twist in the tale as you find out who "Sam" was in his previous life.
Not as bad as all the critics are making out, there are a lot worse Sci-Fi films out there, that is for sure!

Disappearance (2002) (2002) Review

Disappearance (2002) (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The thing that amazed me most about this DVD is that the film was a made for TV thriller starring Harry Hamlin and Susan Dey (best known for their performances on L.A. Law) and although the plot may seem contrived to some viewers, I found it to be chilling, entertaining and well acted. Some viewers, I understand, were confused and unhappy with the conclusion (which I will not give away) but I believe the director's idea was to put you into this family's struggle and see it from their viewpoint, so maybe it's fair to say, all questions should not be answered. In the tradition of the older, thinking-man's films, this movie leaves much room for discussion, which is sadly missing from a lot of today's supernatural thrillers where people always want set answers and happy endings. If you want this in this movie, then don't bother. If you are looking for something that is entertaining and leaves room for debate , this is YOUR type of thriller. Plot wise, all I'll say in synopsis is: Harry Hamlin plays a father of two whom has lost his wife five years previously. In an attempt to help with a bonding relationship with his children and his new wife (Dey) they embark on a vacation out west. Hamlin's son, an avid photographer has an interest in stopping in a "Ghost town" of Weaver to shoot some photos. But no one in the neighboring town of Stepford people claim to have never heard of the town.Well, they find Weaver ...or does Weaver find them?
Some critics may shun this movie for it's Stephen King/Twilight Zone overtones. There are many to be found here, throw in a sprinkle of Blair Witch for good measure. Harry Hamlin is great as the protective father and Susan Dey, sadly missing from today's films is a great highly underrated actress and does well as the protective stepmom whose expectations of bonding with her two new stepchildren are taken to a much higher level. You may remember Dey as Laurie Partridge from ABC's Partridge Family or as the tough but sexy DA Grace Van Owen from L.A. Law.
Overall, I thought the movie had many chilling moments and suspense which will undoubtably earn it cult status if even only for it's "Partridge Family", "LA Law" and "7th Heaven" alumni. In the tradition of Stephen King, Twilight Zone and Night Gallery, this movie scores! Definately worth your time!

I didnt buy this movie, rather i rented it from the local movie gallery, and im glad i didnt purchase it. Its not that its a bad movie, it just has some special effect issues that bothered me. Now i know that they didnt have a huge budget to work with so im understanding with that. It just didnt captivate me, the story isnt that great, it is lacking in originality, but what can you do with this genre that hasnt already been done? So i think a score of 3 is just right. Not a buy, a rent.

I Know What I Saw (2007) Review

I Know What I Saw (2007)

This film is made so well because it highlights the best cases, and presents solid facts and information leaving the viewer with a clear path to decide whether the UFO issue is real or not. Fox shows people on the street saying that people who see flying saucers or UFO's are all crazy, then goes on to show some respectful, professionals, pilots, military personnel, even a governer, who have compelling tales.
I saw this documentary late at night, and it scared me because of the potential of what they are uncovering. Weird stories of huge (sometimes a mile long) UFO's seen in many places of the world.
If you don't believe in UFO's watch this video. I am not sure anyone can view this and come away saying it's all in a person's mind or just made up. Scary and very well made. Highest recommendation.

Director and host James Fox assembles the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify on the subject and share their experiences and observations. Air Force generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries gather at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. to tell stories that, as former Arizona governor Fife Symington states, 'will challenge your reality.' These accounts reveal a behind-the-scenes U.S. operation whose policy, in the eyes of some observers, seems to involve confiscation of substantiating evidence from close encounters--to the extent that even Presidents have failed to get straight answers.

After having viewed the film at a cinema during its initial release, I purchased the DVD when it became available. I enjoyed the acting, the characters, the CGI, the music and the story. In short, I was entertained. Others have chosen to provide harsh comments. Personally, I enjoyed the film. I happen to be a science-fiction author and I like a good story. Mission to Mars provided that. I don't think Brian De Palma was trying to do anything more than entertain in an appealing way. As far as this reviewer is concerned, he succeeded.

Talking to Heaven (2002) Review

Talking to Heaven (2002)
Average Reviews:

Why they changed the title is questionable since "Living With The Dead" is much more appropriate. Husband and wife, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, head an extremely fine cast in a film that will hold your attention regardless of whether you define it as fiction or non. Ted does a credible Van Praagh but Mary steals the show with her superb portayal of a borderline skeptic detective who puts her reputation on the line. And she looks terrific. A suprising entree is Jack Palance. The old pro never misses a beat and can still steal a scene. The same can be said of Michael Moriarty who continues to be one of our finer character actors.
The real deal, Mr. Van Praagh himself, can be seen in a quick cameo as the church organ player.
3 hours of fine film. Nice job.

Ben 10: The Complete Season 1 (2005) Review

Ben 10: The Complete Season 1 (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Healthily into its third season, it's only now that BEN 10's freshman year is finally coming out in dvd in all its thirteen episode glory. Debuting in December 27, 2005 on the Cartoon Network, BEN 10 was an immediate hit with the fans as the show, boasting a very cool concept, proved to be fun and eminently watchable. Plus, that theme song rocks.
The premise: Ordinary 10 year old Ben Tennyson comes upon a mysterious alien artifact (resembling a wristwatch) which grants him temporary access to the forms of ten alien species, each of whom is inherently imbued with its own superhuman ability. In the constant company of his wise and benign grandfather Max (who hints of an enigmatic past, proving that being a "plumber" is more exciting than one would think) and his clever, sassy cousin Gwen (who he initially dislikes), Ben, early on, learns his lessons as he heroically attempts to abide by the famous Spidey quote: "With great power comes great responsibility." But his attempts to live up to that credo are at constant odds with his more carefree and mischievous pre-adolescent tendencies. Accordingly, he strives to use his new-found super powers to nab villains, all the while keeping at bay the maurauding alien, octopus-faced Vilgax, who will stop at nothing to own the Omnitrix. But, as civic minded as he has become, that doesn't mean that young Ben can't have any fun...
The hook, of course, is that this young, normal kid all of a sudden gains and gets to play with the powers of ten formidable alien beings. Part of the fun is in witnessing Ben discover all the diverse forms (some of which are strange and kinda gross, and one, Ghostfreak, even really unnerving) he comes to inhabit and his varying reactions to 'em. These ten beings are rendered as visually striking and colorful, my two personal favorites being Heatblast and Upgrade. And, oh, yeah, for those who were wondering, these ten aliens whose shapes and abilities Ben can borrow, in no particular order, are: Upgrade (a biomechanical being who can integrate itself into any machine and instantly improve upon or "upgrade" it), Four Arms (a bruising, 12-foot-tall, four-armed alien with awesome strength), Heatblast (an incendiary individual whose race dwells on a sun), Diamondhead (the near invulnerable, crystalline being), XLR8 (capable of immense super speed), Ripjaws (the aquatic alien), Grey Matter (the miniscule alien, standing at 5" tall), Ghostfreak (creepy and spectre-like), Stinkfly (a winged insectoid alien), and Wildmutt (a quilled, bestial creature).
And, now, for the self-righteous, holier-than-thou part of the review: this show is perfectly catered for our impressionable young 'uns. With the expected, patented family values, as well as the mainstay credo of trying to do the right thing, being wholesomely espoused throughout the episodes (and in a non-sanctimonious way), kids should find themselves entertained as they are simultaneously taught the classic, goody-two-shoes virtues. The interactions among Ben, Grandpa Max, and Gwen are nicely portrayed as his supportive gramps and his more mature cousin strive to keep the impulsive Ben on the proper path (because Ben does lose it and act out every now and then).
Its cartoony animation is well suited to BEN 10, meshing with the show's sensibilities. This series is meant to be light, innocent, and fun-filled, in spite of all the heavy sci-fi action, and these qualities are perfectly conveyed by the clean lines and caricatured look. Young kids certainly wouldn't mind, and Ben's otherworldly personas are depicted in a nifty and energetic enough manner. The look and style of BEN 10, actually, leans towards the anime style and recalls TEEN TITANS to mind. I kinda like it.
Now, the minuses. Other than the very alluring hook of being ten different superheroes, there's really nothing new about this series. One improvement I can think of is that this show would be better served with more cohesion and more episodic continuity. Multi-part episodes would be very welcome. As it is right now, the formulaic plot has the Tennyson family travelling to some destination, only to encounter the supervillain flavor-of-the-week (although several of these baddies are sicced on by the series's main villain, Vilgax). Don't get me wrong, there is some character development and these are pretty cool stand alone episodes, but BEN 10 seemingly lacks that certain focus; and the show's story arc and plot progression are developing too slowly for my taste. But, hey, that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop watching this series. When you get to the nitty-gritty, BEN 10 is just too much fun to miss out. Not to mention, Seasons 2 and 3 do offer up several great episodes ("Gwen 10" and "Ben 10,000," to name but two).
By the way, from what I've read on Wikipedia, the Special Features will include several episode commentaries, interviews with the showmakers, a creator drawing lesson, and a collectible poster.
***********************************************************************
Here we go with the episodes:
"And Then There Were Ten" (episode one) - On a summer cross-country trip via motorhome with his Grandpa Max and his disliked cousin Gwen, Ben Tennyson ends up with the powerful Omnitrix. But, intergalactic conqueror Vilgax is intent on gaining possession of the Omnitrix and sends his robots to get it.
"Washington B.C." (episode two) - Ben goes up against Dr. Animo, a loony but brilliant scientist who created the Transmodulator, an invention which enlarges and distorts normal animals into gigantic, dangerous beasts.
"The Krakken" (episode three) - While camping out and taking a swim in a lake, Ben bumps into a sea monster.
"Permanent Retirement" (episode four) - In a homage to (or a blatant rip off of) INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, Ben, Max, and Gwen visit Aunt Vera's tiny town and discover that the residents are exhibiting very weird behavior.
"Hunted" (episode five) - Vilgax sends three alien bounty hunters (Kraab, SixSix, and Hoverboard) after Ben's Omnitrix.
"Tourist Trap" (episode six) - Feeling let down and bitterly bored with the tourist town of Sparksville and its main attraction of a giant ball of rubber bands, Max decides to play a prank but, instead, unleashes an electrical being called the Megawhatt.
"Kevin 11" (episode seven) - Ben meets and hangs out with the psychotic, 11-year-old Kevin, who has the power to absorb energy. When Kevin learns of Ben's Omnitrix powers, he begins to absorb those.
"The Alliance" (episode eight) - Ben goes up against an ornery female armored car robber who had been converted into a destructive alien cyborg named Rojo.
"Last Laugh" (episode nine) - We find out that Ben is afraid of clowns, which sucks for him because the main baddie in this episode is an evil, parasitic clown named Zombozo.
"Lucky Girl" (episode ten) - When Ben beats the wicked magician Hex, he takes from him a magical charm as a souvenir and offers it to Gwen. Gwen discovers that the charm has the power of incredible luck and becomes a superhero herself, called Lucky Girl. But, there's no such thing as a free lunch, and a prize must be paid for all of Gwen's fortuitousness...
"A Small Problem" (episode eleven) - When there appears to be a glitch with the Omnitrix, Ben pounds the device in an attempt to activate it and ends up trapped in the form of the 5" tall Grey Matter. An alien-obssessed man named Howell Wayneright captures him and presents him to the Organization, a clandestine group aiming to collect alien technology for its own purposes.
"Side Effects" (episode twelve) - When Ben catches a cold, it has the side effect of weakening his powerful alter-egos; it's bad timing as he has to face off against an insect-controlling madman, who threatens the city with nuclear devastation.
"Secrets" (episode thirteen) - It's the head alien, Vilgax himself, versus Ben 10. Plus, we get a first look at the underground facility beneath Mount Rushmore, which is the HQ of Grandpa Max's former covert and X-Files-like goverment organization.

The 4400 - The Complete Second Season (2004) Review

The 4400 - The Complete Second Season (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Finally!
Ever since the second season ended on TV, I've been scouring Amazon and Best Buy at least twice a month for the release date!
The second season of the 4400 begins a year after the events of season 1, not counting the small interlude with Richard and Lily in hiding, and Lily going into labor with her baby.
Since the end of season 1, Baldwin has been stuck behind a desk while Skouris, rotating through a number of incompetent partners, has made little to no progress investigating the 4400. Skouris is also adopting the clairvoyant girl Maia as her daughter, and Baldwin's son Kyle, out of his coma, has been in quaratine for the past year, much to his frustration. Jordan Collier, billionaire and 4400 member, is attempting to build a seperate nation or some such for the 4400, and he's not above breaking the law to do it. His search for Richard, Lily, and their six-month-old baby Isabelle also continues, while Richard & Lily are on the run from the US government, and zealots who believe the 4400 to be a harbinger of doom. The cast took a bit of a blow with the departure of Peter Coyote as boss Dennis Ryland, who was replaced by Samantha Ferris as the new boss, Nina Jarvis.Star Trek fans receive a bit of a treat this season with appearances by Jeffery Combs (DS9's Weyoun, Brunt & Enterprise's Shran) and Robert Picardo (Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram).
With the third season set to begin this summer (with Combs appearing in half of the episodes!), I'm eager to see the second season again, without commercials.
The 4400 is the best sci-fi series on TV these days, IMHO, since the loss of Star Trek: Enterprise and The X-Files, which is why I'm proud to add this set to my collection.
Twelve episodes make up the 2nd season, and they're 12 good hours to spend. :-)
But if you plan to spend summer watching reality shows, I pity you.

News Reporter: "Once again, a UFO has landed in America, the only country UFOs ever seem to land in."
Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):
1.Star studded cast lights up the screen (or at least their voices do) in a funny and action-packed computer-animated film from Dreamworks.
2.Reese Witherspoon is Susan Murphy, a sweet home Modesto girl who doesn't realize her true worth until she gets hit by a meteor. . .
3.. . . on her wedding day
4.The casting people outdo themselves with Seth Rogen as a brainless blob, Hugh Laurie as a mad doctor with the ethics of a cockroach, Rainn Wilson as an evil alien and Stephen Colbert as the President of the United States.
5.Think of a bigger, better Mars Attacks! and Spaceballs.
When an evil alien targets Earth as a source of "quantonium", the Government has only one option, and that is to call out the monsters under the command and supervision of General W. R. Monger (Keifer Sutherland).
General W.R. Monger: "This place is an X-file wrapped in a cover-up and deep-fried in a government conspiracy."
Other star vocal talent includes Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Jeffrey Tambor, Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski, among others.
The plot itself may not be a classic, but the animation and casting make it a movie you'll want to have in your collection.

Tripping the Rift: The Complete Third Season (2007) Review

Tripping the Rift: The Complete Third Season (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like Tripping the Rift; I have the first two seasons on DVD. Then I purchased the movie, which I was very disappointed with, so I was hoping that season three would bring me back to the fold. Unfortunately, not so much. 3 or 4 of the episodes are straight from the movie (or the movie is straight from 3 or 4 episodes depending how you look at it), so the claims of "13 ALL-NEW EPISODES" on the DVD cover doesn't ring true.
I also don't understand how they came up with the censoring of foul language. In one episode ("Raiders of the Lost Crock of $%?&*!"), they bleeped the word b*****d (but left enough in that you could tell what it was) and a couple of minutes later the word was said again but not bleeped. It seems to be a little random. I don't get why they can't put out a "grown-up" version of Tripping the Rift (i.e. rated 18 or even 16). I can handle the swearing, the crude jokes, even a little CGI nudity (the censored banners in the Raiders episode mentioned above).
There are no extras with this DVD set. No outtakes, no trailers, nothing. It really seemed like it was put together quickly and released. If I hadn't seen the movie, I probably would rate this season a bit higher. I feel the movie has damaged the franchise somewhat. Who knows if there will be a fourth season. If there is, I hope they realise there are grown ups out there who watch "Tripping the Rift" and we're OK with adult content in our favourite animated shows.

Hell Swarm (2000) Review

Hell Swarm (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HELL SWARM is a little misleading to say the least. The promo for the film seems to focus on a batch of killer bees, laced with a deadly skin eating virus, that is meant to destroy mankind and let a race of aliens take over the earth. There is one bee attack, but it isn't shown; the plot mainly focuses on trying to stop these aliens from taking over other humans and procreating (a la INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS). Kathryn Morris (now seen on "Cold Case") does a decent job as the female law enforcer, but Tim Matheson as the steely manager and Boyd Kestner as the stalwart hero, don't have the oomph to catapult this classic wannabe.
Trite but mildly entertaining.

I guess I never saw the final season of the show when it was in its first release because I don't remember any of the episodes. I own the other five seasons, so you can tell I'm a big fan of the series in general. I've watched most of the shows now on this 6th season set and I was really surprised. I kinda expected the last year to fall off in quality and to rehash a lot of the same schtick. But so far I've really liked every episode. By this time in the series the actors are all very comfortable with one another but the relationships don't feel stale to me. If you are inclined to like some of the other seasons, then you might want to take a chance on this one as well.

This show was done in Europe. I watched as a kid, compared to today's shows, it seems very silly, but I really enjoyed it.

PWK is a show that is simultaneously hilarious, dark, sweet and intelligent. Imagine the writers of Larry Sanders' penning Greg the Bunny. A cult hit up in Canada, but will likely be too droll to ever air on US TV.

Yes, if the cult-hit Season One DVD wasn't proof enough then Season Two should erase any reasonable doubts - Puppets Who Kill is the nastiest little show around. The strangely demented antics of Buttons, Rocko, Cuddles and Bill return to torment Dan Redi

Why only four stars? Well, I have to knock it down a bit for Sam Egan's episodes because while they did improve as the season went on, they just could never compare to JMS'. I hope in the coming seasons a writer will be able to jump on board and pick up the reins where JMS left off and keep the momentum going. Also, I was a bit disappointed to see that it is not being presented in Widescreen as that would have been the smarter move for MGM to make.
The premise might not be for everyone as it is a dark and grim view of our future but the underlying message is about hope. The characters in this series are at a crossroads -- they can continue to prey off the remains of the "old world" until there is nothing left or they can try to rebuild their world into something better than what came before them.
Season one was a bit of a bumpy ride and perhaps had a slow start but it was worth it in the end. I followed this show after being a fan of Babylon 5 for many years and knew it was going to be worth it if I just held out long enough. Boy, was I was right!
It was fun to pay attention to the little details that were semi-hidden on the first viewing, only to discover that they all contributed to the greater arc of the show. Even the "bad" episodes all tied into the larger picture and became part of a wonderful tapestry called, JEREMIAH.
Some of my favorite episodes that had my head spinning for days at the numerous possibilities presented were FIREWALL, TRIPWIRE and the two-part season finale, THINGS LEFT UNSAID.
If you haven't had a chance to see this show, I strongly urge you to check out this series, as it is one of the most thought-provoking and intelligent shows produced. Give it a season and if you aren't hooked by the end, return it or donate it to your local library. However, I have a feeling that you will either tune into Showtime to see season two or you will be anxiously awaiting the next season's set to arrive at your door.

A stunning sci-fi epic that re-envisions the future of mankind, this top-rated, action-packed original series is "intriguing" (Associated Press), "fascinating" (Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel) and "deep and intense" (Science Fiction Weekly)! Luke Perry ("Beverly Hills 90210," "Oz") stars as Jeremiah, one of the many young survivors of the "Big Death" that claimed the lives of every adult in the world 15 years ago. Now forging his way through a bleak wilderness fraught with danger and conspiracy, Jeremiah and his most trusted friend, Kurdy (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), are plunged into thrilling adventures that test every facet of their humanity…and ultimately the fate of the human race itself!
