Little People Big World - Season 1 (2006) Review

Little People Big World - Season 1 (2006)

I'm going to let you in on a little secret...I hate reality television. Come to think of it, television programming in general has been on a fast decline for awhile now. It has become (at least for me) increasingly difficult to find something to watch without becoming bored. Reality T.V. is laced with too much ham, sitcoms are unbearably lame, and action shows are just insulting to my intelligence. With all this worthless debris cluttering the television waves it was a blessing to find Matt Roloff and his family.
Being a fan of the show and not wanting to spend $21.95 on the outrageously priced individual episode DVDs I found myself playing the waiting game for a full season DVD to grace the local department store shelves. Today the wait was over...
Season One is a three disc DVD set, the only downside to this is the packaging. It is made entirely of recycled cardboard with the DVDs having to be "slipped" in and out of place. A nice improvement would have been a plastic backing for the discs to sit in...this way the DVDs wouldn't have to rub against the cardboard everytime the discs are removed and returned to the case.
I was also surprised to see that out of the 20 episodes included in this set the pilot episode, entitled "Little People, Big Dreams" was absent. This is particularly important because this was the hour long episode that introduced us to the Roloff family back in March of 2005. I don't understand why this episode is excluded from this set considering the significance it carried.
Little People, Big World (Season One) gets a well-deserved 4 stars. Although the case was somewhat generic and the pilot epsiode missing I found the rest of the DVD set very well put together and the price very reasonable.

I had read the other reviews here on Amazon and was concerned to read that some people thought the DVD set was incomplete. I ended up buying it anyway, since this was the only DVD set my local store had and I kind of needed it immediately. I've since watched it, written down the episode list, and compared it to the complete episode list available at IMDB. I thought I would put the information up here for other people considering this product, so they'll know exactly what's on this DVD and what's missing. So here's the list of the episodes which ARE on this DVD set!
Disc One:
- 10 Little Pumpkins
- Twins Turn 6
- Gosselins Go West
- Shopping for Ten
- Garage Makeover
- Housekeeper Hunt
- Pancakes & Potties
- Jon Turns 30
- Sextuplets Turn 3!
- Breakfast in Bed
Disc Two:
- Gosselins Go Dutch
- Sextuplets' First Dentist Visit
- Red, White, & Gosselin
- Sugar Rush
- A Cow Purchase
- Sara Snow Visits!
- Babies & Bedrooms Part One
- Babies & Bedrooms Part Two
- BONUS: Surviving Sextuplets & Twins One-Hour Special
Just so you know, season one is complete, but season two is missing a total of three episodes. And strangely, some of these episodes are presented out of order, which seems odd. But anyway, just so you know, here are the episodes that are missing from this DVD set.
The Missing Episodes Are:
- A Day At The Zoo (Season 2, Episode 10)
- Hit The Road (Season 2, Episode 11)
- How It All Began (Season 2, Episode 12)
I don't know yet if those three episodes are available on the individual season sets, because I haven't purchased those yet. But I like to know what I'm getting when I buy something, so at least now you'll know what's on this DVD set and what isn't. Personally, I still think it's a pretty good deal for what it is. However, I've removed one star from the rating simply because, in my opinion, the packaging should state clearly what's contained in the DVD set. I think it's disappointing that it doesn't explain that more clearly, so bad job, TLC! Other than that, though, the video quality is at least good, even if the DVD menus aren't anything particularly special.
That said, the show is *fantastic*! I couldn't recommend it more highly. It's so endlessly refreshing to see a family on TV that really honestly love each other and always strives to do what's right. Sure, they aren't perfect, but who is?
The show never fails to make me smile, it's so fun to watch the darling little kids, and it's honestly just a whole lot of happiness crammed into half-hour segments. It's great for families, adults, kids, whoever! Give this show a chance and I know you'll end up loving the Gosselins as much as I do!
Bottom line, 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' deserves five stars, but TLC deserves only 3 for not being clearer about the packaging. But hey, at least now you know!

When the Gosselins dreamed of having a family, nonstop chaos wasn t exactly what they envisioned. But the arrival of a set of twins and a set of sextuplets within five years has added up to Jon & Kate plus 8. And their dream family has turned into a mind-boggling juggling act. Seasons 1 and 2 take you into the lives of this unusual and amazing family as they experience the havoc, the challenges and the joys of raising multiples. Sometimes it s a comedy, sometimes it s a drama, but it s always an adventure!

Little Richard (2000) Review

Little Richard (2000)
Average Reviews:

The Little Richard Story is a credible account of the man who, more than any other individual artist, erased the word "race-music" and created popular music. Although only a small part of his life and 55 year (and still counting) career was highlighted, the DVD really captures the essence of the man - the battle between his faith in the Lord and the temptations of the world, and the development of the most important musical art form of the twentieth century - rock music. Leon is amazing in the title role, bringing to the screen the attractive, sensual black musician with the raspy, force-of-nature voice, that racist parents in America fought so hard (and so unsuccessfully) to keep from their children's senses. If you love rock, r&b or rap, and are interested in the roots of the music (the black church), this DVD is a must to add to your collection.

Little People Big World
This is an educational TV series which follows the Roloff family through their eveyday lives. Both parents Matt and Amy are little people they have four children. A pair of twins,Jeremy is average size the other twin Zach is also little like his parents. Then comes Molly and the youngest is Jacob both are also average size. Sometimes you kind of forget that they are little and you just start seeing them as what they are normal human beings. This family through the magic of camaras let us into their home to show the world that little people are just like everyone else, the only difference is found in their physical struggles. I have learned a lot about little people through this amazing series. The Roloffs also take their viewers to their conventions which opens our eyes to the need for more advocacy for this special community. I highly recommend season 2 because it contains inspiring stories, a great vacation at Hawaii, and moving moments that will make you laugh and cry. The Roloffs are able to move mountains through their faith and resiliency.

Little People Matt and Amy Roloff may only be four feet tall, but they are determined to make the world their own. Raising four children, a mixture of Little and average size-siblings aged 9 to 16, the Roloffs are struggling under emotional and financial burdens. As for the kids, they play with wild abandon on the Roloff's lush 30-acre farm in the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. The eldest children, twins Jeremy and Zach, are in stark contrast to each other: Jeremy is average height while Zach is a little person.

GREAT DVD!! My husband and I are "average sized" senior citizens (64 and 77) who just recently started watching the "Little Couple" episodes on TV. In today's world with so many negative happenings occuring, it is a great pleasure for us to watch this very loving couple in their day to day life events. They are loving and very respectful of each other. This program has become our favorite program of the week. We splurged and bought this DVD collection of their first season of shows and now we watch them EVERY NIGHT for a pleasant break in our day. The collection of shows is great and we highly recommended the DVD set to everyone of all ages and "sizes!!" We look forward to a future DVD set of Season Two!

I'm assuming people looking at this already know whether or not they like the show, if you don't know or haven't seen it yet it's not hard to catch the episodes playing almost round the clock in syndication on TLC. The third season is still the lovable Gosselin family, the episodes are the finest of the series so far as it showed us the families real daily lives around the home more than recent episodes but the children were older and more mature than earlier seasons. This set also has the especially enjoyable episodes that focused on individual time between Jon & Kate with each individual child on their own special day. Episodes included in this 4 disc set are:
Trip To The Zoo
Day In The Life
Twins Turn 7!
Kate Hires A Nanny
Winter Preparation
Potty Training the Boys
Family Photo Shoot
Kate's Wardrobe Makeover
Gosselin Family Christmas
Plane Ride to Utah
Gosselins Go Skiing
Twins Get Musical
Cooking with the Twins
Carpeting the House
Valentine's Day
Color me Gosselin
Leah and Joel
Aaden and Hannah
Alexis and Colin
Mady's Day
Cara's Day
Jon & Kate's Special Day
Oprah Here We Come
Household Chores
Gosselins Take the Stage
Games Gosselins Play
Memorial Day Picnic
Discipline
Jon's Hair Raising Experience
Jon & Kate Family Movie Night
Plus Special Features: Behind the Scenes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 (which originally aired as an episode).
Viewer FAQ (Which originally aired as an episode)
Music Video: A Hug & A Kiss (Which was promoted and aired once on television)
All episodes this season are shot and shown in 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen Aspect Ratio. Audio is Dolby Digital 2.0. There Are English Subtitles, the set is rated G and has a running time of approx. 698 minutes.
This season is in my opinion the best Jon & Kate has to offer. I haven't enjoyed recent episodes as much as these ones, possibly because they've been away from home alot doing too many out of the ordinary things that I can't relate to when I always found that sense of home to be the heart of the series. Hopefully now that they've settled into their new house the show will return more to the format I enjoyed. Though the hype the show has received and the affect it seems to have had (in my opinion) on the family will never allow it to be as great as it was in this third season it is still and probably will always be an enjoyable family series for most and they're who I recommend this to.
