(More customer reviews)I don't know where to begin but this movie is going to be a new classic for kids...move over Sounder, Anne of Green Gables, Treasure Island....I was entranced. The actors in the movie are fabulous... I found myself making comments aloud about their acting throughout the film. The themes are timeless and ones in which we can all relate. The costumes are wonderful...I was taken back in time and couldn't leave my TV to even get a drink and I studied every detail of the dresses, hair, shoes, and makeup. If you think history is boring, watch this movie...it all will change for you and you'll realize that we all aren't so different afterall.

This provoking drama is set in rural Louisiana in the early 1950's. A 12-year-old girl(Kelsey Keel) has been forced to come to grips with the fact her parents are developmentally disabled. The family is held together by the girl's grandmother (Shirley Knight). Rich Aunt Dorie (Juliette Lewis)comes home to try and ease the family's woes.

He is so musically talented in many different genres! This is a great keepsake if you have seen him live, and for those not able to go to the Mirage, it will be a great substitute. He is a major entertainer of our day!

Brian Regan: Standing Up (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)Brian Regan is a great comedian for the whole family. My wife and kids love walking through the house yelling "What's the score, Brian?" "Snowcone! Whole snowcone for half game!" He's a great guy, and his humor is something you can enjoy with everyone.
If you own his live CD or earlier DVD, you'll find this contains almost all new material. One of the bonus features is his encore in which he does requests from the audience from his material. It's stuff you've heard before, but the funny way he points that out is hilarious ("You're out there going, 'Yep, that's the way I memorized it.'") His first Comedy Central Presents appearance is included and there's no repeats from the "Standing Up" special in it. If this is your first introduction to Brian's comedy, it's a great place to start. Grab his live CD next. The CC Presents half-hour show has some of that material on it, but it's still funny.
I wish there were more comedians out there like Brian. He manages to be funny without ever being vulgar. I don't know why he isn't more popular, but with his CC sponsored national tour maybe he'll finally get the exposure he deserves.

This is probarly ABC Family's best show yet, I do know for a fact that "Kyle XY" was a big hit for the channel, since I watched & followed it since it appeared on T.V. last summer. "Kyle XY" is about a mysterious guy that questions everything around him, as if he was a animal or a new born child. Even though he's very new to the world, he's already a adult, he also haves great gifts like jumping off tall buildings without getting hurt, playing Basketball better than a professional player does and swimming like dolphins. Kyle can also hear through walls & read people's lips from far away. That's just the beginning of the story, even though these things are impressive to the people around him including his adoptive family, nobody knows about his past, not even Kyle knows. After clues such as familiar people & symbols start popping up, his memory starts coming back. I'm not going to give to much away because I don't want to ruin it for people who haven't seen the show. I will say that "Kyle XY" answers questions while making more of them for the audience watching at home. It's a very interesting show, that grabs you in and doesn't let you go for a second and just when you think you know who Kyle is, a twist comes in and changes your mind.Disc 1:

This is an educational TV series which follows the Roloff family through their eveyday lives. Both parents Matt and Amy are little people they have four children. A pair of twins,Jeremy is average size the other twin Zach is also little like his parents. Then comes Molly and the youngest is Jacob both are also average size. Sometimes you kind of forget that they are little and you just start seeing them as what they are normal human beings. This family through the magic of camaras let us into their home to show the world that little people are just like everyone else, the only difference is found in their physical struggles. I have learned a lot about little people through this amazing series. The Roloffs also take their viewers to their conventions which opens our eyes to the need for more advocacy for this special community. I highly recommend season 2 because it contains inspiring stories, a great vacation at Hawaii, and moving moments that will make you laugh and cry. The Roloffs are able to move mountains through their faith and resiliency.

Commander in Chief: Part One (The Inaugural Edition) (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)When President Teddy Bridges (Will Lyman) has a stroke, independent Vice President Mackenzie Allen (Geena Davis) finds herself being politely asked to turn in a resignation letter. After all, she was only picked to increase Bridges's support with women voters. Bridges administration personnel did not actually expect her to assume the presidency.
Instead, Allen decides that she will take the oath of office and become America's first woman president. For creator Rod Lurie, having a woman president was not enough; he wanted to examine how the chief executive of America balanced her work and family obligations.
Because this change in American women's political status also affects men, 'Commander' also examined how husband Rod Calloway (Kyle Secor) adapts to being the 'first' First Gentleman. Claiming to be comfortable, Rod subsequently expresses obvious discomfort with some aspects of his own new public image ("First...Do No Harm"). A major strength of this series was that it also gives serious airtime to the challenges a First Gentleman could face.
Rod briefly considers becoming commissioner of baseball before deciding that it would pose a conflict of interest ("First Disaster"). Later on, the Allen-Calloway marriage gets challenged when he is discovered with an intern ("The State of the Unions").
"Rubie Dubidoux and the Brown Bound Express" makes another inevitable comparison with the Clinton administration. Since he is unofficially her closest advisor, Mackenzie subsequently decides that appointing Rod to an official position only makes sense. However gender politics in 21st Century America doesn't have that decision being perceived as smoothly as this first couple would like. Is Mackenzie a strong leader or is Rod ultimately controlling her? Is this nepotisim or is he really the most qualified person for the job?
"Commander" is also special because Polly Bergen guest stars as Mackenzie's mom, Kate Allen. Bergen had ironically stared in "Kisses for my President" (1964) Hollywood's earlier take on what having a female Chief Executive would be like. That president had to resign when she got pregnant!
"The Mom Who Came to Dinner" also marks the addition of Mark-Paul Gosselaar to the cast as Richard "Dickie" McDonald, a young but very sharp media advisor
Of course having a good drama would have been remotely impossible without a good arch nemesis on hand to keep things heated up. He's still a 'Hollywood liberal' but Donald Sutherland plays conservative Republican Speaker of the House Nathan Templeton with gleeful abandon. Templeton is continually a thorn in Allen's side--he does not like her on either a political or a personal level.
10 episodes are included in this release. Extras include unaired scenes (mmm...!), an exclusive interview with Geena Davis, and insights into the show itself from the creator--replete with commentary. I am upset "Commander" has been cancelled, but am happy that it got scheduled for DVD release so soon afterward. I'll always have my memories

The Waltons: The Complete Ninth Season (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)The final season of The Waltons finds Michael Learned (Olivia Walton) no longer a cast member, while Robert Wightman has now officially joined the cast as John-Boy. Although this is the greatest weakness of the season, The Waltons still delivered intersting, and some exciting, episodes.
The season begins in the spring of 1945, and all the Walton men--save John--are fighting the war. Ben is captured by the Japanese forces, Jason has to deal with the question of killing another man, and John-Boy (played by Robert Wightman) falls in love with a French girl.
Back at home, Mary Ellen discovers a need for a doctor on the mountain and is determined to become one, while facing a great deal of opposition. Ike and Corabeth are investigated by the rations board, and a new minister comes to the mountain. Jim-Bob is frantic when a girl back home claims to have his baby, Cidny finds that she has been adopted, and the series ends with John-Boy going back to New York.

Hopefully, Warner Brothers will release these 6 TV movies, as it would be great to own the entire Walton legacy on DVD.
