3: DALE EARNHARDT STORY (2004) Review

3: DALE EARNHARDT STORY (2004)

As a huge fan of "The Intimidator", I was very skeptical about how a TV movie would portray the greatest race car driver that ever lived. After viewing "3", I must say that I was impressed by the work. Being that this was a TV movie (And I'm not a big fan of TV movies.), it didn't surprise me that the director would tread very thin on the biographical history and not ruffle feathers any further about his love life, his relationship with his fellow drivers or other tracks. The portayal of Earnhardt by Barry Pepper was great. He captured his style and essence. However, I would have loved to see more about some of his rituals at the track. Maybe this is the first of many films that will try to give fans like myself and others who don't know him a feel of what he was like. This film has my blessing.

Stephen Lynch - Live at The El Rey (2004) Review

Stephen Lynch - Live at The El Rey (2004)

If you grew up with any sense of Christian or Catholic dogma you will surely need to repent after watching this one .. or risk going straight to hell in a handbasket! The fundamentalists surely think Lynch is the Anti-Christ.
Armed only with his acoustic guitar and boyish charm, Lynch articulates some of the silliest, crudest and creative stories you will ever hear recorded. The DVD "extra's" are also well worth the price of admission!
This is a great DVD for anyone not familiar with Stephen Lynch. Although those already familiar with him will find some of the material redundant, this DVD will still make you laugh as it captures all Lynch's characteristic facial grimacing and hysterical mannerisms which are missed on his audio CDs. Those who've seen him live will know what I'm talking about.
If you like to laugh, and sexual topics, vuglarity and "over the edge humor" don't offend you, join Lynch for an intimate night recorded live at the El Ray Theatre in Los Angeles.

Survivor All-Stars - The Complete Season (2004) Review

Survivor All-Stars - The Complete Season (2004)
Average Reviews:

Who ever is the genius idiot who decided to put the faces of the people eliminated on the disc they are eliminated? Did anyone ever think that some people may not have watched the show and did NOT want to know who was going to win, which was clear from the order of the faces on each disc? Once you know this the element of surprise is gone forever.. How sad...
Don't look at the pictures on front of every disk if you want surprises. If you don't care then you'll know who exactly get voted off with each disc and worse, you'll know who wins when you see them on the last sole disc.
Otherwise, this show was GREAT!! and therefore gets 4 stars, but really zero stars for ruining the surprises. Fire that putz that decided to blow it for people that have not watched it. Me, one of them.
The only other thing that was pathetic was the commentary by Lex, Kathy and Alicia who spend their valuable audio time on the bonus commentary biggering like teenagers over Boston Rob. Making ridiculous statements that Rob betrayed Lex etc. and that people were lying. Duh!!! The game is about outwitting, betraying, lying, and outsmarting everyone. Their bitterness of not winning makes me sick. What did anyone expect? That they were going to hold hands all the way to the finish line?

Although these all-stars may be familiar with the show’s premise, a few things have been changed for the show’s eighth season in order to offer some change into the mix.Players were divided into three tribes named Chapera, Saboga and Mogo Mogo, and marooned on separate beaches off the Panama coast where they cope with the most unpredictable weather yet.Promising to be the most manipulative season yet, SURVIVOR: ALL-STARS would not be complete without a little conflict between the players, and this time around, there is plenty of that to go around.. Commentaries on 10 episodes by (variously) Rob Cesternino, Jenna Morasca, Rudy Boesch, Tina Wesson, Lex Van Den Berghe, Alicia Calaway, Kathy Vavrick-O’Brien, Shii Ann Huang, Rupert Boneham, Jenna Lewis, Amber Brkich and Rob Mariano

The Killing Secret (True Stories Collection TV Movie) (2006) Review

The Killing Secret (True Stories Collection TV Movie) (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Greg Dunleavy (Mark Krassenbaum) and Nicole Voss (Ari Meyers) are the usual high school senior power couple: he the handsome, wealthy, and popular jock and she the beautiful, well-to-do, cheerleader. Greg and Nicole have been dating for two years now and have plans to attend the same college, after graduation, and eventually get married. But, Greg has a little secret: he is cheating on Nicole with a girl named Emily Decapprio (Soleil Moon Frye AKA tv's Punky Brewster) who just happens to be from the "wrong side of the tracts".
Sweet, trusting, but misguided, Emily eventually gets pregnant by Greg and actually believes that he will marry her, that they will raise the baby in the same town, and live happily ever after. Greg has other ideas, he sees only the rath of his father, and all of his future plans with Nicole going down the drain. When Emily, in no uncertain terms, informs Greg that she will not have an abortion and will indeed have the baby, Greg decides that Emily has got to go and maniacally strangles her to death with his bare hands. Greg then proceeds to zip Emily's body up in a bag and dumps her out into the middle of a local lake, then goes on about his life as though nothing has happened.
Nicole has since become friends with Emily's mother, Tina (Tess Harper) and tries to help her to find out what has happened to Emily. Eventually, Emily's body is found on the shore by Nicole's friends during a party held at the lake. It is soon brought out that Greg was "dating" Emily and the heat is on for Greg. Nicole is furious that Greg has been lying to her, beginning to have her doubts about his innocence, and breaks up with him. Another young man, who was obsessed with Emily, is arrested for the murder. Nicole now feels badly about suspecting Greg, and the two get back together.
Unfortunately for Greg, his days of freedom are numbered as a tiny piece of evidence, overlooked by Greg, but found and kept by Nicole (not realizing at the time what she has)comes to light and Greg is starting to get panicky. Anyone who has anything on Greg at this time better watch their back, and that includes Nicole and Tina!
This little gem of a Lifetime movie has wonderful and convincing performances by the entire cast and is a very worthwhile viewing experience, I have this DVD in my movie library. Try it, you'll like it!

Gene Simmons - Family Jewels - Season One (2006) Review

Gene Simmons - Family Jewels - Season One (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's tough to discuss this show without mentioning the more popular Osbournes. The Osbournes came first, the Osbournes was a big hit...heck, even my dad (who knows nothing about rock n' roll) watched that show. He thought Ozzy was funny. But this is the better show. And this is why.
First of all, there's hardly any cussing. Very rarely do you hear the "beeps" (and yes, it's all beeps, no actual cussing). Second, this family is much more likable. Nick Simmons is a bright, funny young guy, and Shannon Tweed is absolutely hilarious. Third, you can understand what Gene is saying, unlike the Ozzman. And last, you can tell right away how much this family loves each other. I got tired of the Osbournes always fighting. These guys joke around and play pranks, but there's very little fighting going on. And although Gene is well-known for his love of women, there's very little bare skin on this show.
I'm writing this and I haven't even finished the first disc yet. I just like this show. I think it's hilarious and I can't stop watching (except to get a Pepsi and write this)! I haven't even gotten to the "lost songs" yet...can't wait to hear them.
There was one episode in particular, the "unaired pilot" in which Gene is grilling the boy who is about to take young Sophie Simmons out to the dance. I saw visions of my own future as a father there. Just a priceless moment. I felt very sorry for that poor young man who had to sit across a very large desk from Mr. Simmons and be grilled about dating his young daughter.
This is an excellent show, and I highly recommend it, whether you like Kiss or not. Just give it a shot.
