(More customer reviews)REMEMBER: This DVD pulls no punches in its graphic depiction of the horrors of 9/11. It shows raw footage of first one, then another plane crashing into the World Trade Center towers. It includes footage taken from an NYPD helicopter that circled the tower but was unable to land on the roof. A man is shown waving a towel from one of the open windows on a very high floor, but there was nothing they could do to rescue him. It has disturbing footage of people jumping to their deaths, as then mayor Rudolph Guiliani and others watch in horror. It shows the first tower collapsing as the person filming it keeps yelling, "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!" It shows the next tower collapsing and the huge cloud of smoke and debris speeding down the street as people run for their lives. The aftermath of the attacks is also included, showing the streets and people covered with soot and choking for air.
REFLECT: The courage of the police, the firefighters, and all emergency workers shines through the dark smoke and rubble, as they rush to the scene to try and save as many lives as they can. The strength of mayor Guiliani and his staff, as they try to restore order to the chaos, is remarkable. The grief and sadness while watching a succession of funerals is heartbreaking. Watching this DVD documentary stirs up many strong emotions, as the wounds from those events have not fully healed.
RESPOND: We can't forget the unjustified terrorist attacks that occurred on American soil on that fateful day. We can respond by donating time and money to September 11 charitable foundations to help America recover from these vicious terrorist attacks. Net proceeds from the sale of this DVD are donated to the Twin Towers fund. More importantly, we can respond by remaining strong and ever vigilant to ensure that these horrors are never repeated.

(More customer reviews)The episode contained here is a very good one. And I can think of nothing bad to say about it. And the documentary is very good as well. But you get the SAME episode and the SAME documentary {no other extra's though} PLUS 22 more episodes with the first season set. If you can not afford the first season set this would be better than nothing. But if you can afford it, avoide this and buy the first season. Had I known the first season DVD's were comming 5 months ago I WOULD HAVE!!

(More customer reviews)Yes, I love Hetty and as soon as Acorn releases a new set I am the first in line to buy it. So...I have purchased my new Series III and I love it. Three volumes (disks) and nine new episodes.
This set includes:
1/ All Stitched Up -- When a delinquent terrorizes a neighborhod, the police are helpless as frightened victims refuse to testify against him. Posing as the Irish sister-in-law of one of the residents Hetty infiltrates the local quilting circle to get the lowdown. Di's comment: Only Hetty could infiltrate a quilting circle.
2/ Daughter of the Regiment -- A military wife hires Hetty to identify a mysterious photographer who is stalking the woman's daughter. Tipped that an Australian is involved Hetty and Geoffry go undercover as 'Aussies'. Di's Comment. One of my favorites, stars Mel Martin.
3/ Serving the Community -- A leader in the local (jacket says 'Indian', but I believe they were Pakistani immigrants and their families) recruits Hetty to investigate a string of muggings and then Hetty herself is mugged! The plot thickens when Robert becomes the recipient of stolen goods.
4/ Fisticuffs -- After a minor fender-bender involving two women, one lets the other have it and zips off in her red Alfa Romeo. The battered victim as Hetty to help her identify her assailant. Geoffrey tracks down the Alfa and meets Janet, the mechanic who has been working on the car.
5/ Childsplay -- A quick visit to relatives turns into a longer stay for Hetty when her young nephew gets expelled from school for drug possession. Hetty enlists Geoffrey to infiltrate a suspicious gang led by a schoolyard bully named Bomber.
6/ Pursuit by Proxy -- Hetty is hired to track down a bankrupt furniture owner. The job is complicated by her meddling brother-in-law, Frank, who has come to stay and insists on "helping" the agency while Robert is away visiting their son in Australia.
7/ A Minor Operation -- Hetty is in the hospital recovering from surgery on her varicose veins. Meanwhile DCI Adams is keeping an eye on an ailing prisoner. Hetty goes into action from her hospital bed when the DCI is accused of sexual harrassment.
8/ Helping Hansi -- A German pensioner asks Hetty to track down his sister,whom he last saw during the war when she was escaping to England. When Hetty visits Hansi in the nursing home, she discovers he is being cruelly taunted by the other residents.
9/ How Time Flies -- Frank finally takes his leave and treats Hetty to a day out at a local steam railway museum as a parting gift. A frantic call makes it a working trip.

The French Chef With Julia Child 2 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)OK...........so my French vocabulary isn't that good, but this DVD sure is something to behold!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this visual Julia library!
I dream of the title of "chef" and there is no greater role model than Ms. Child. She is THE hero upon which all other chefs have made their fame in culinary history. Her style, her incredible deadpan humor, and her encouragement to learn one of the greatest cuisines, make for a thoroughly enjoyable DVD.
The series began in 1962 and initially the public did not know what to make of this rather tall and quirky woman who dared to teach us the culinary world of French cooking. To many, France was the only place that had the ability to cook as such. But Ms. Child removed the mysteries and overwhelming sense of details that one felt was needed to produce French masterpieces.
You feel that you are in her kitchen and that she is speaking just to you. She has no airs about her, no pretensions, just a very earnest interest in showing you the incredibe world of flavor courtesy of our French neighbors.
You also need to take into account that this was the first real TV cooking series and that it was the start of the 60's; so much history was just beginning during that decade. So what was she going to teach us in the midst of this turbulence? Well, an awful lot.
There are 3 dics within this particular DVD. The first section is named "Starters and Side Dishes"; it covers:
1. Vegetable: The French Way
2. Vegetable Adventures
3. Elegance with Eggs
4. More About Potatoes
5. Terrines and Pates
6. The Hollandaise Family
The second section is "Main Courses":
1. French Crepes I
2. Cooking Your Goose
3. Roast Suckling Pig
4. Fish in Monk's Clothing
5. Cheese Souffle
6. Sole Banana Femme
The third section is "Baking, Desserts, and Other Classics":
1. French Crepes II
2. Buche de Noel
3. Croissants
4. Gateau in a Cage (WOW!!)
5. French Bread
6. VIP Cake
Disc number 3 was the best, in my opinion. If you would like to impress friends with desserts, go with this one. The "Gateau in a Cage" looks so beautiful, that her fun and friendly teaching style makes you realize that it is not out of your reach to make this stunning dessert!!
Another enjoyable aspect contained within this DVD is in part her self-effacing, deadpan humor. She doesn't worry about that she has spilled anything or that something is not releasing itself from the pan just right. Mistakes and problems happen and she lets you know that it happens to everyone, including herself. That's the beauty and comfort that is her secret. Just to give an example, who would think of using a sword to talk about cutting poultry? Why would ANYONE use a sword to talk about cutting poultry? Julia did.
Also contained on the jacket are photos of how the show had to be taped in that people had to be positioned just so on the set so that they could help her with certain segments but remain out of sight of the cameras lens.
I truly hope that they continue to make all the episodes from all her shows available as that would make quite a cherished DVD collection for anyone who loves to cook and/or bake.
To borrow from my queen: "Bon appetit!".
Addendum: A very, very grateful THANK YOU to a reader who asked whether there were printable recipes included and YES (!) there are; at the end of each disc are the recipes which can be downloaded; my deepest apologies for forgetting such an important section. These are the recipes that are included in the discs: (disc 1) eggs baked in ramekins/ molded eggs/ shirred eggs/ sliced potatoes baked in butter (disc 2) rolled crepes w/ shellfish stuffing/ shellfish crepes gratineed in a wine and cheese sauce/ braised goose (disc 3) Buche de Noel and croissants.

Patricia Rutledge in a different type of character. I remember her from the movie
"To Sir With Love" in 1967, never thinking that she would break out as Hyacinth
Bucket. Now another chance to see her adapt to this investigator who runs this business with the family. I tend to stay loyal to those I am lucky enough to see earlier in their careers. And Miss Rutledge hasn't disappointed me throught the years with any cast ensemble she is with.

Eleventh Hour (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)No, not really but "Eleventh Hour" is what he worked on between shooting "Mysterious Island" and "X-Men: The Last Stand". The first two episodes deserve 4 stars while the last two 2 and 3 stars respectively. Overall this was a show with promise that was cut short because it didn't attract enough viewers in the U.K.
"Eleventh Hour" created by writer Stephen Gallagher and produced for ITV combines elements of "Doctor Who" (Gallagher was a former write on "Doctor Who" during the ealry 80's), the old BBC show "Doomwatch" and "The X-Files" to create a compelling series that probably would have had more to offer if it had gone before four ninety minutes segments. While the show could be a tad derivative the strong performances by the cast and fine imaginative direction (particulary for the first two episodes)made the show watchable and worthwhile. The second pair of episodes "Kryptos" and "Miracle" had promise but had some major script problems that if solved would have made (the latter particularly)fascinating and fun TV.
Patrick Stewart plays Professor Ian Hood a controversial scientist sent in to investigate any weird crimes. He's protected by a bodyguard Rachel Young (Ashley Jensen). It seems that Hood's crusading approach to science has made him many enemies in different industries and, as a result, there are folks who'd love to take the good doctor out with a bullet vs. out for a cup of tea.
**Spoilers ahead**
The writing for the first eight episodes (they are two part episodes)varied from extremely good to spotty but on the whole the show exhibited a lot of promise. Interestingly writer Gallagher and the uncredited Simon Stephenson drop you right into the lap of our main characters without a lot of background or exposition. It makes the first episode challenging but fascinating as you try and figure out the characters as you also solve the mystery at the heart of the film. The first episode is a bit derivate borrowing from films like 2004's "Godsend" but on the whole Gallagher does a solid job of making the story interesting enough despite the fact that the premise itself isn't all that original.
In the first episode of the series "Ressurection" Hood and Young are called in when a fetal graveyard is discovered. What Hood discovers about their DNA and their link causes him to suspect that someone is trying to clone humans in the U.K. The duo must uncover who is behind this and why before there are any adult victims.
The second episode started off with a premise worthy of "The X-Files". While demolishing a old church and relocating bodies buried on the site one of the workers contracts a mysterious and deadly virus. Hood and Young must uncover what is at work and whether there's a chance it will spread to the community.

The last two episodes had promise but the writing was a bit spotty. Of the last two "Miracle" was the most fascinating with a great premise but denouncement at the conclusion that undermined the entire episode.
The DVD comes with text interviews with Patrick Stewart and actress Ashley Jensen as well as a filmography for the cast. The show comes without subtitles however which would have been useful for some of the thicker accents for us U.S. viewers. The shows looks quite good in its DVD transfer and fans of Stewart or "The X-Files" might enjoy the show.
The show will be airing on BBC America starting the week of 12/3/06. Stewart is marvelous and the supporting cast quite good as well. I'd give the show 3 1/2 stars. If the show had continued I quite imagine like "The X-Files" and other shows of that type the writing would have improved over the course of the series as the characters and situations were developed.
This is entertaining enough for a rental if nothing else although Stewart is often better than the material he's working with.
