Dame Chocolate ("Give Me Chocolate") was a very successful soap opera that attracted a large public across the United States. This original story, written by Perla Ferias, is about a young Mexican woman named Rosita Amado (Génesis Rodríguez). Rosita is very humble and very nice, but she's incredibly ugly and extremely oblivious. Soon enough, everything changes for Rosita and her family when Juan Amado (Héctor Suarez), Rosita's grandfather, passes away. Juan had a chocolate factory in Miami and when he died, he left his granddaughter in charge of the secret formula for the magic chocolate. Rosita and her family move to the United States to maintain Juan's chocolate factory running, but this is a big change for a family who's lived in poverty all their life! Unfortunately, Juan Amado wasn't the only owner of the factory Chocolate Supremo (Supreme Chocolate). Grace Remington (Kristina Lilley) and her son, Bruce Remington (Carlos Ponce), are also owners of the factory. And even though Rosita and Bruce start having feelings for each other, Grace's feeling of superiority gets the best of her and she intends to steal the secret formula and kick the Amados out of America and back into Mexico. She id even willing to kill... Things start to worsen when Ángel Pérez (Khotan), a bad guy from Mexico that Rosita mistakenly considers her friend, follows her into the U.S. and befriends the evil Grace. After emotions, confusion, and betrayal, everyone believes Rosita to be dead after a quite tragic incident...but she is alive and is now back to seek revenge on the Remingtons. Now a clever Rosita, now disguised as the beautiful Violeta Hurtado, is determined to win back her grandfather's factory and punish those who humiliated her for her intelligence and ugliness. She has a new recipe for chocolate and new recipe for love...
What made this particular soap opera so much more popular than the other millions of soaps out there (besides its totally cool, totally unexpected ending) was the imagination of the author. Dame Chocolate combines romance with mystery and suspense with fantasy. This is not your ordinary soap opera, as Mayan culture and magic make their own appearance in this popular show. There's a lot of suspense and humor in this series, and then plot takes an unexpected turning point with its own twist that only further proves how good this story is. Maria Antonieta de las Nieves (an actress from Chespirito's famous Spanish TV show, "El Chavo del Ocho") and Mauricio Ochmann participate in this classic. Dame Chocolate is very well written and deserves to be bought by those who watched it on TV, and for those who enjoy watching a good show - men, too! 5/5 stars!

George Lopez: Tall, Dark & Chicano (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Wow!
My husband has always been a major George Lopez fan. It didn't take me long to become one as well
I didn't know what to get my husband for Christmas. This released at exactly the right time, and my husband was really happy when he opened this gift.
I normally don't laugh out loud at anyone, but George Lopez is seriously funny. I did a lot of laughing out loud with this one!

Pasion de Gavilanes (2003) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Having viewed Pasion de Gavilanes in real time, I found the DVD to be a wonderful recap of the story. Naturally, in the allowed time it would be impossible to see all of my favorite scenes, but in a "cliff note" fashion I was able to see the couples coming together and to follow the storyline. As a non-hispanic, the fact that the caps were available in English only made the experience more enjoyable. Given the number of times I have rewatched PDG, and translating from the caps, I should know the dialog by heart. The behind the scenes clips and interviews were a treat and I was very pleased with that. Finally, the quality of the DVD picture was superb. I found myself wishing Telemundo would release the novela to the public in its "total" package (30+ DVDs) and let us worry about how to pay for it. LOL

Violentos Recuerdos / Violent Memories (2008) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This movie, which I saw on cable Video-on-Demand, was much better than what I expected it to be=- although I'm not sure what it was about.
It appears, on the surface, to be about a lady who was in an accident, has amnesia and can't remember any of the accident details-- nor anything else in her life-- and now is being held captive sort of (she doesn't try to escape and really has not reason to) in a psychiatric hospital. No one is mistreating her, but there seems to be some sort of foul-play going on behind the scenes. But what? As the story unfolds, it appears that something else altogether is going on. But what? For me, this saved this from being a dull south-of-the-border gore-fest. It was fun to look at, although the somber tones are clichéd. So, I won't mind having another go at seeing what on earth this movie about. Whatever it's about it's kind of fun to look at.
The movie's sinister air of ambiguity is reminiscent of David Lynch's "Mulholland Dr." (a movie that I would never have understood had I not read through all the Amazon reviews of the movie until I found an interpretation that explains the storyline. For fans of Spanish cinema, there are plot echoes of "La Ardilla Roja," although, as a whole, this movie hasn't a trace of "Ardilla"'s humor and beauty.

Boy Meets Grill with Bobby Flay - Blazin' Barbecue (2007) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is an entertaining video to watch. He cooks some yummy things. True to Bobby Flay, there are always a MILLION ingredients and there's always multiple toppings and sauces for a dish. I'd like to taste some of his dishes cooked by him because I've yet to create one of his entire recipes that made sense as far as all the extra sauces and that I was completely happy with the way I cooked it. I'm no pro, but I do cook a lot, and I live in a green-conscious, gastronomic area. We aren't eating miracle whip and white bread around here. Anyway...this review is not so much about his choices in sauces and chutneys and extras that he adds but the fact that this video has 0 and I mean zero directions as to how much of the ingredient to add or any recipes anywhere on the DVD. I searched the entire thing looking for them and was shocked they weren't anywhere to be found. I made the fra divolo bbq T-bones and had to go to [...] to get the recipe. So, unless you are someone who can watch another person make something in a video and know exactly how much of what to add by watching them...you are going to have to go hunting for the recipes if you want to make any of them. Perhaps it is my own ignorance showing in this review, but I thought the point of having a cooking video is to help the cook make the dishes themselves. I wouldn't think it was for the entertainment factor itself.

La Otra Mitad del Sol (2005) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I really enjoyed watching "La Otra Mitad del Sol". I have watched several telenovelas offered by Amazon to practice my Spanish. This one was edited perfectly, I did not feel that something was missing (obviously cut out) as in some other edited soaps. The story is interesting, different and original, one of the best I have seen.

Las Juanas: Season 2 (2008) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Las Juanas Season 2 is the Mexican version.
The soap opera does not intend to be serious and in some way they are taking the piss out of the telenovela's industry by being overly cheesy at times (maybe I see it that wat because I am Mexican), so it has to be enjoyed for what it is.
Wish it had the subtitles for the English speakers but I guess it is a good way to practise for those who had a reasonable level of Spanish (beside the native speakers of course)

Rubi (2004) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Rubi was amazing on DVD. I have to admit I was a little iffy whether I should buy it because I have purchased other Novelas on DVD and didn't like them. I'm the first to admit, I was wrong. It has the whole show on it and it's not all chopped up either. It even has some extra footage and an alternative ending. I would strongly suggest this to any Rubi fan. The show was great and the DVD dosen't come far behind.
