Incredible.....do they have 10 stars?? As usual, I bow and pay homage to Martha. Am I a Martha-head? You bet! Will this be an objective review? You bet! Why? Because you can't deny visual proof of what this woman can offer.
This 4-disc offering of wedding planning is so complete that you would be hard-pressed to find any detail missing if this were the only reference tool you had. The discs come beautifully packaged in a fold-out jacket, contained within the outside box. The paper inserts show the subject of each disc, and as always, with the gorgeous photography that is the quality stamp of any Martha product. The DVD quality itself is perfect, in the truest sense of the word, because the images are crystal clear and sharp, with the colors as pristine as digitally possible. And with all the printable material available for you to download, you have more tools to use in planning that very special party, or any party, that you dream of. She also gives detailed instruction as she goes along, so notetaking will be a breeze.
Being a wannabe-chef/baker at heart, I went to the "Cake Ideas" disc first. I really enjoy making party cakes, so I was very much anticipating what she would be teaching us regarding this area of baking. Without a doubt, this disc alone was worth the price because it is THE training/reference tool for making ANY cake, let alone a wedding cake. I went through the entire disc (and these are all deliciously long discs) and I felt like the proverbial kid in the candy shop............what project will I tackle first?
To be honest, several of the ideas and things you will see in here can have a price tag that is extravagant to say the least, therefore they might be out of many a couples budgets. But they are interesting and fun to watch, and if you really want them, with a little creativeness, you can alter them to fit into your dream wedding budget.

The Martha Stewart Cooking Collection - Martha's Baking Favorites (2005) Review

The Martha Stewart Cooking Collection - Martha's Baking Favorites (2005)
Average Reviews:

Just to give fair warning, I am a "Martha-head", but I think I can be pretty objective. So with that in mind, once again, we have been given another treasure of a DVD. It is full of the best of her baking favorites, and per expected Martha-standard, it is perfect.
The segments have been taken from her former TV format where you are in her home as she brings you cookies, cakes, pies, and tarts and shows you how you can create any of these delightful treats, with detailed instruction and clarity. The segments are color-perfect, the sound quality on the button, and all the recipes are easy to download on your computer. But if you don't own a computer, not a problem, because she gives the ingredients and their measure as she goes along.
Something that I think people will enjoy is the "Special Features" section at the end of the DVD. You get all sorts of idea's and tips that range from creating a "Baking Pantry 101" to cake decorating tips to how to make perfect pie crusts, etc.
And one of the best additions was the "Blooper" section. Martha has taken quite a beating in regards to her alleged impatience in her pursuit of perfection but this will show you the funny and giggly side of her, with several segments that have gone a bit awry. She has a good sense of humor and she rolls with it.
As for the content itself, it goes as such:
TECHNIQUES:
Baking Pans 101
Basic Pie Crust: Pate Brisee
Standard Tart Dough: Pate Sucree
Crust Decorating Techniques
Freezing Pie Dough Tip
Blind Baking Techniques
Cake Stenciling
CAKES:
Ultimate Chocolate Layer Cake (this is such a good cake!)
Lemon Meringue Cake
Coffee Crunch Cake
Chocolate Angel Food Cake
Red Velvet Cake (what a knockout!)
Boston Cream Pie
Hummingbird Cake
PIES, TARTS, and COBBLERS:
Blueberry Crumble Pie
Black Bottom Pie
Peach Cobbler
Square Pear Peg Tart
Plum Puff Pastry Tart
Mini Apple Tarte Tatin
Banana Cream Pie
COOKIES:
Kitchen Sink Cookie
Rhubard Shortbread
Lime Meltaway
Chocolate-filled Lace Cookies
Lemon Sandwich
Pecan Squares
Chocolate Chip Meringues
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Classic Pie Gift
Bloopers
Printable Recipes and Instructions
Baking Pantry 101
Pastry Tip Glossary
Cake Decorating Tips and Techniques
Meringue and Whipped Cream
Leftover Dough Treats
A Crisper Crust and more........
If you know of someone who really enjoys baking, this would really be a great gift idea. And for yourself, what better way of getting so many ideas and recipes courtesy of someone we enjoy? It has all you need to make the desserts that you know everyone will enjoy. Do I dare say it?..........."its a good thing".

The Martha Stewart Holiday Collection - Martha's Halloween Ideas (2006) Review

The Martha Stewart Holiday Collection - Martha's Halloween Ideas (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The fun is about to begin!!!! Our Martha has brought us her always top-notch DVD of holiday fun and "education" this time in the theme of Halloween, which seems to be one of her favorite celebrations!!
These enjoyable and fun idea's are from her former TV show format which have been transferred onto DVD's. They come with her demand for nothing but high quality picture and sound, let alone the idea's and projects that will keep you and the kids entertained and busy for hours, depending on what great fun you want to tackle first!!
The DVD is in 6 different area's of Halloween magic:
PUMPKINS:
1) pumpkin carving 101 ( I really loved the use of "miniature" lights to place inside a pumpkin; it was so pretty!)
2) pumpkin creatures (this was a really clever way of mixing different gourds and pumpkins to make creative creatures)
3) pumpkin owls
COSTUMES:
1) supermarket costumes
2) fleece costumes (such adorable idea's like the little tree)
3) baby chicken (this was such a great idea for little ones plus idea's of the things you can make with garbage bags and coffee filters!)
4) fish head costumes (there is a material called "specialty sparkle film" that's used in emergency workers outfits and it is just brilliant for this idea and can be easily purchased at craft stores)
5) pirate costume
DECOR:
1) clothespin bats
2) spider cone lanterns
3) window silhouettes (these were alot of fun and the kids can pose for the ones you make for big windows or long glass doors)
4) glow stick spiders
5) specimen bottles
6) shrunken heads (this was a blast with the use of Granny Smith apples that are sculpted then "shrunken"!)
TREATS: (these are fun to make if they aren't all eaten first)
1) Halloween cupcakes
2) white chocolate ghosts
3) popcorn balls
TRICK or TREAT:
1) pillowcase treat bags
2) animal treat bags
3) reflective bags (these were a great and kid-safe idea because of the use of reflective tape, plus the kids will have fun making them)
MAKEUP:
1) frightfully scary makeup
2) bruises and scars
3) special effects makeup (this is the filming of how Martha was transformed into the "Spider Lady" that was on the October issue of MSL; it's an amazing episode that gives some insight into the world of special effects)
The price for this DVD is well worth it and all the idea's within can be easily made without needing alot of time and money. So if Halloween is as much fun for you as it is for Martha, then consider this DVD and have a safe and fun day!!

I purchased this movie thinking I really wasn't going to enjoy. Boy, was I wrong! Cybill did an outstanding job portraying Martha Stewart. The actors and actresses brought the characters to life in this movie. Though the movie may not be 100% factual, it's a must to add to your collection. You will see a woman working hard at any cost to get where she wants to be in life, but also realizing MONEY isn't everything!

The Martha Stewart Cooking Collection - Martha's Favorite Family Dinners (2005) Review

The Martha Stewart Cooking Collection - Martha's Favorite Family Dinners (2005)
Average Reviews:

I bought this at (yep, you guessed it) the grocery store, which was a very clever marketing concept on Martha's part. There was only one DVD left. It contained Classic recipes for chicken, beef, fish, vegetarian and other main dishes. If you think you ALREADY know how to make classic, everyday dishes such as meatloaf, think again - because Martha's variations may put a whole new twist on your usual standards. Her use of fresh herbs truly does make a difference and the glaze on her meatloaf was one I hadn't tried before. My family loved it.
There is also a section with Bloopers (yes, Martha's mistakes or mishaps while filming a scene - slips, falls, etc). There are 12 different cupcake variations and an extra section on kitchen tips (I learned plenty of new things from this section).

I have to admit that I looked at the Bloopers section first, intrigued by the idea of actually seeing Martha make mistakes.. and I only wish there were more of those. They were funny, especially the one showing Martha pulling an X-rated carrot from her garden. You'll have to buy the DVD to see the rest. It is a very short section, however.
Then I watched the DVD from start to finish and marveled at the quality of the production, as well as HOW MUCH information was packed into this DVD. From start to finish, each recipe was demonstrated clearly. I intend to use this one with my youngest child because it is a perfect introduction to some classic recipes, from roast chicken to meatloaf. They may not be made the way you are used to making them but in one case that was an advantage...the meatloaf recipe was far better than my standard version and the glaze was delicious (do be aware of your oven's peculiarities, however, and cover the top to keep the glaze from burning; uncover just long enough to brown). It would be best, of course, to use an oven thermometer and know your oven's actual temperature since 350 in one oven may not be 350 in another - those dials may be inaccurate.
But don't make the mistake of thinking this is only for beginning cooks (although it'd be a perfect housewarming gift for the college graduate who is just setting up house). There are plenty of new recipes, especially a squash casserole which I am dying to try on my vegetarian friends, after having tested it on my family and getting rave reviews. In fact, one of the nicest sections of this DVD was the Vegetarian one. Each of those recipes looked delicious.
Martha's mother is featured in some of the segments and that was a pleasant surprise. She and Martha chat as they cook and the whole atmosphere is nice and casual.
No matter what you may think of Martha Stewart, this DVD is a top-notch, quality production with tons of useful info.
The DVD can also be inserted in a computer to get a list of menus and other features.

I have to qualify this review in that I viewed this DVD that a friend had purchased for themselves; they wanted something that wasn't immensely detailed, and they felt it was a good reference tool for their needs. I had purchased Martha's "Complete Weddings" DVD, so it was an interesting comparison of the two. If you are looking for a brief overview of wedding planning, then this would be a very well-done general reference guide. It will give you an overview of wedding day idea's and will be most helpful.
You get a little bit of flowers, dresses, cakes, atmosphere, etc. so this is an informative, but basic, tool to help you in your plans. The quality of film, sound, and color is superb, as always. She gives her lessons slow enough to take notes, but still with enough information that you feel you have a good hold of the subject.
This is a wonderful choice for the basics of wedding planning, or even for a fancy party. Congratulations on one of the happiest days of your lives!!!
