(More customer reviews)The sixth season of critical darling Curb Your Enthusiasm delivers the same Larry David and his life of absurd self-sabotage that has entertained viewers for nearly a decade. With an almost reality-TV improv feel, Curb follows the Seinfeld co-creator through his miseries and mishaps brought about by his George Costanza-like neuroses and over analysis of everyday situations.
As with previous years, Season 6 is tied together by a single overarching plot. In the first episode, Larry's wife convinces him to take in a family displaced by a recent hurricane. The Black Family (whose name mirrors their race, a joke not lost on Larry) work their way into each episode, as either an extra source of frustration for our perpetually exasperated hero or as a source for an alternative perspective when providing Larry with advice.In another example of art imitating life, a second extended plot develops involving the breakdown of Larry's marriage, just as he is going through divorce proceedings in real life. Cheryl's character doesn't seem as important in Season 6, also possibly the product of Larry's real life matrimonial problems. His frustrations with Cheryl take a meaner, more mocking tone (her absurd reaction to Larry and the Blacks desire to use non-recycled toilet paper being the best example). Larry's real life soon-to-be former wife is a champion of environmental and other causes, a trait she shares with Cheryl and one that Season Six paints as naïve and misguided.
Richard Lewis, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen continue their real life roles as Larry's friends and have no problems mocking their own image (where else can you see great moments like an uninvited drunken limo driver crashing a party and taunting Ted Danson by calling him "Becker"?). Season 6 adds Lucy Lawless, Senator Barbara Boxer and John McEnroe in small parts as themselves, each bravely portraying an exaggerated and ridiculous version of who they really are, but one that fits perfectly with Larry David's view of the world...and one that echoes the spirit of this irresistible show.

(More customer reviews)Larry David retreads not only the Seinfeld feel, but some of the same sort of story points-an object sought but hard to gain despite the fact that it is fairly simple; bad directions; how it comes back to bite us in the ass when we don't help people we easily might; or when we do help people; the ethos of the working classes; how hard it is to exchange something at a department store; etc)-but he does so so well that it is actually more enjoyable than Seinfeld. In fact, owning the Curb Your Enthusiasm collection makes buying Seinfeld feel unnecessary; it is sharper, more bitter, and more realistic.

(More customer reviews)Season 2 of CYE is arriving in June! Here's hoping HBO keeps the sets coming more frequently than they've done with Oz. Season 2 ranks up there and has some priceless moments including the doll episode! I would like to see more bonus features on the CYE discs...maybe outtakes or the ultimate idea...the cast roasting Larry!

(More customer reviews)A lot of people pointed out the quality of "Curb" went downhill in the fourth season. I disagree. The "Producers" storyline with Ben Stiller and then David Schwimmer was just as great as the first three with some hilarious episodes. I read there are no extras in the set. A shame--so much could have been included, and the price is a bit steep considering there were only ten episodes. I got the first couple of seasons for $20,but the show is such a gem I suppose it is worth paying a little more..but it would have been nice to have those extras in there.ala Seinfeld.

(More customer reviews)I bought Curb Your Enthusiasm with one real expections. I am a marine in Iraq and I happen to see it at the local px. I am so glad that I bought it. Everything that happens in the show is hilarious. You find something funny or different every time you watch it, definately an adult comedy. I find myself watching over and over again, not due to a lack of DVD's I might add (we have plenty). It is like the Seinfeld that you always wanted, but couldn't play on basic television. You wil either love this show, or not get it at all, if you do get it, it's a homerun.

(More customer reviews)3.5 stars is more like it, but there aren't any half ratings. I've been a HUGE Curb fan for a while now and do not understand all the criticism heaped at the show this season. Last season, I would have understood. But Curb came back in a big way for its 5th season. The 4th was ruined imo by the Producers storyline which really didn't fit the show at all. But this 5th season, though maybe not as good as anything done in the first 3 seasons, still had me laughing quite a bit. I'm hoping Larry doesn't take to heart the criticism of the addle-brained (probably many of the same people who denigrated the unfairly cancelled Lisa Kudrow vehicle "The Comeback" before giving it a fair shot). And there's no word yet on whether or not there will be a 6th season, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

You find yourself gripping the chairarms and wincing at the faux pas and complete idiocy of this man. My sister won't watch it because she said it makes her nervous wondering what horrific thing he will do next..... which is exactly why I love it! He completely takes you away from your humdrum everyday life, talk about feeling superior! Comic genius at its best, clearly the reason for the tremendous success of Seinfeld, it's fresh and funny and you cannot roll your eyes enough! Love it!!!!!!

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seventh Season (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Update: The last episode showed a Seinfeld episode within a larry david CYE episode. It was really wonderful. If you are a Seinfeld fan, you must see the last episode of this season even if you do not like this show. I am a fan of both so was in heaven!

I just watched Larry David do a send up of Michael Richards' infamous "N" word rant to a heckler on this season. David uses the real Richards (Kramer) with the black comedian who lives with him on the show. This is typical of Larry David, who considers nothing too sensitive for comedic exploration. This is one big reason why I love this show. Larry David has to be the most Politically Incorrect Person in America and I love him for it!
There are just so many funny things this season that any reviewer could write a small book about the joys of Season 7. We open with his girlfriend having breast cancer and Larry's wanting to end the relationship. Somehow he manages to find a therapist who ends up blaming him for the cancer! (As a cancer patient, I found this whole cancer episode very funny.) We revisit his mother's death via her tombstone and Larry even manages to get the tombstone cutter mad at him. He becomes persona non grata at his country club after killing another member by making him mad and the guy had high blood pressure (which explodes), all over the inanity of playing through, or not, in golf. He wears women's underwear as an alibi for Suzie's husband when she finds panties in his glove compartment. He and Richard Lewis seriously come unhinged together again--Lewis and David have a friendship which thrives on maximum antagonism and misunderstanding. Then there is the biggest thing going on in Season 7: Larry decides to put on a Seinfeld reunion. He does so as only Larry could where you see the reunion coming together behind the scenes. You are not left out of anything in the entire process. The major thing you discover doing this is how much of Seinfeld was Larry--tons. When George (Jason Alexander) and Larry come together, it is clear that George WAS Larry. They are mirrors of one another, willing to obsess and argue over any minutiae.
This may be the best season yet of this show. I hope Larry David keeps doing it. It is a breath of fresh air among the comedic mediocrity that is the usual tv fare.
