(More customer reviews)Because if I ever hear of one that's out on DVD, I will be the first one to buy it. Frankly, I don't get it. I know people filmed them, and I know that people can remaster image and sound. I know that The Band, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and even Hendrix has an access of footage that exists. If anyone is holding back on us fans, please cease. Anyway, this DVD is not as essential as you might think (well, the CREAM DVD is, it is full of nice info. and hilarious interviews), but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it if you are a true fan. A musician here shows you how to strum and fingerpick a couple of Creedence tunes, although this is not a tuturial. I just wish the other band members, including its author John Fogerty, would've allowed themselves to be interviewed. Plus, I know there is studio footage somewhere. But in the meantime, just enjoy this "inside" look--it is a good film and it's nice to see Stu Cook today, but don't expect a great archive of unseen material and in-depth liner note-style comments. The film is more like an appreciation of them--but how can they help it? It is very difficult to slam a group that played this well and wrote so many wonderful and timeless songs.

Don Henley Live - Inside Job (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)You all know Henley so I'll spare the career retrospective. This DVD was taped May 25, 2000 at Fair Park Music Hall in Dallas. From the opener of Dirty Laundry through the entire set and closing with Hotel California, this is a great show by a fantastic song writer. Don's voice sounds great on this night and his back-up band is very sharp. Not a lot of talk between songs, but one great tune after another. The other songs include Sunset Grill, Workin' It, Taking You Home, The Boys of Summer, Lilah, Everything is Different Now, The End of the Innocence, All She Wants to Do is Dance, New York Minute, Talking to the Moon, They're Not Here (They're Not Coming), The Heart of the Matter, Desperado, The Long Run, and My Thanksgiving.
That covers the show, now on to the DVD features... well, there really aren't any. The sound quality is excellent and the production is flawless, but no multiple camera angles, no extras, no videos, just a short intro then on to the show. I'm not complaining as the show is fantastic, but if you like whistles and bells look elsewhere. If you love Henley, the Eagles or just great music then you'll still love it.

John Fogerty: The Long Road Home in Concert (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Released as a belated tie-in to the recently released Greatest Hits album "The Long Road Home", Fogerty and a top notch band of professionals rock out on this DVD. Having seen Fogerty at the Filmore when he played to promote "Premonition" and that video I found this to be an exceptional concert. I personally liked the "Premonition" DVD better although this one does include material from his last studio album including the single "Deja Vu (All Over Again)" (with a touch of humor it's included twice).
The direction is sharp keeping most of the focus on Fogerty. At 61 John can still belt these classics out and his guitar playing remains top notch (he's also quite good on dobro and slide). I would have liked to see more bonus material in the form of rehearsals or, perhaps, a couple of unusual cover songs that he might have played with the band during sound checks but overall the quality of the DVD is terrific.
Now that John is realigned with Fantasy (Saul Zaentz who went from John's friend to nemesis is gone having sold the company and the company made overtures to reestablish a relationship with its most famous musician)perhaps we'll see his second solo album "John Fogerty" (aka "Shep")released domestically with improved sound and bonus tracks. It would be nice to finally have this underrated classic available with bonus tracks (perhaps the pair of singles John released just before the album was released).
If you don't have "Premonition" or would like to add to your Fogerty live DVD collection (this is only the second offically released live DVD from Fogerty)this is a must have. If you're a CCR/Fogerty fan and want to have him performing the band's best material this is also a must have.

Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band: Live In Dublin (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)Mix in hot jazz, a bit of gospel, blues, zydeco, bluegrass and country. Season with Bruce Springsteen and bake at high temperature in an Irish oven for what is perhaps the tastiest concert video of 2007.
This is not your anthemic, rock-til-you-drop, Born-in-the-USA Bruce. That energy is still there, but directed here into the American folk songbook, music written between mid 19th to mid 20th century and reflecting the concerns of the agrarian and working class, from the Oklahoma farmer of My Oklahoma Home, to the slave Old Dan Tucker, to African American dock workers of Pay Me My Money Down. This music was appropriated in the 1950's and 60's by politically active singer/songwriters such as Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan, and through them the music comes down to us in the 21st century through Springsteen.
Ten of the songs from the original 2006 Seeger Sessions disc are here, as are a handful of new numbers and songs from the extended Seeger Sessions release (How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live, When the Saints Go Marching In, This Little Light of Mine, American Land, Long Time Comin'), as well as new arrangements of some of Springsteen's less well-known songs (If I Should Fall Behind, Growing Up, Blinded By the Light, Atlantic City, and Highway Patrolman).
For long time fans the old songs in new-old clothes will be unrecognizable by the opening melody alone. It's not until Bruce starts singing that your mind begins racing to place that particular set of lyrics with a title. All of these newly outfitted tunes show some inventiveness, but the ones that worked best for me were If I Should Fall Behind and Highway Patrolman, quiet performances showcasing the lyrics, and Blinded By the Light, which like it's original rock incarnation is a wild, foot-stomping show closer.
In fact most of this show will have you tapping your feet and signing along. This is a joyous performance, and you can see that the musicians are enjoying themselves as much as the audience. If you have some room in front of your television, clear out that space and get ready to dance.
About the only downside to this release is that it's not a document of one evening, but a compilation of three. In itself that decision was not as critical as the one to delete all on stage banter, including song and band introductions, often one of the more enjoyable parts of any Springsteen show. The editing work is also noticeably poor at times with the action not in sync with the sound, presumably where the director chose to insert shots from nights other than those from which the sound was recorded.
Otherwise, this is a great DVD and watching it was the most fun I've had in front of the television in months.

(More customer reviews)I just watched the concert on NBC using my High Definition TV broadcast, and 5.1 surround sound audio. It was absolutely terrific.
Every member of the group sounded great. Don Henley looked a bit heavy, and older, but sounded just fine.
If your favorite Eagle is Joe Walsh, this is the concert for you.
He sang more on this concert, and was great as always.
This concert contained almost every one of their hits, and left out a lot of their lesser known materials. Don Henley mentioned in some of his commentary that they don't mind at all doing their hits, even though they've performed them hundreds of times, and in fact thinks they've improved the songs and their performances over the years. I agree. In my opinion, this is a better concert than Hell Freezes Over, and that was very good.
How many bands can you name that have a country sound and are as popular with rockers as well as country, and have been around over 30 years?
Just great!!! By the way, the video and sound quality are top notch.

Documented here, the concerts premiered Young's most recent, and critically acclaimed release, Prairie Wind, followed by many classics from the gentler compartment of his massive, magnificent catalog. From the opening interview snippets to the final scene of Neil Young alone on stage, Jonathan Demme, as one would expect, has created a masterpiece, a film suitable to its subject. No two-second ADD camera work here, this wonderful film was shot with the same grace, intelligence and intimacy as the music Young and his friends--including Emmylou Harris!--perform. I had the opportunity to record at Clementvision studios @'89 or so with Chance Martin who was executive producer of the old Johnny Cash show on ABC. Chance appears on this DVD as the voice of Shakespeare. Engineer David Ferguson whom i worked with on those sessions also appears.
This DVD brought back a lot of memories and gives a good insight behind the scenes with some of Nashvilles heaviest hitters. Also on this DVD is a rare glimpse into a side of Johnny Cash that was seldom scene by the general public. It is said that "Cowboy" was able to bring out the funny and whimsical side of Johnny that a lot of people didn't get to see. This is a MUST for any real Johnny Cash fans.
