What sort of person are you? Do you relish variety or prefer the TV shows, musical artists, actresses you like to be recognizably the same over their runs, careers? The answer to that will determine whether you relish the changes introduced for series six of Ballykissangel, as the following exit the show: Sean Dillon (Lorcan Cranitch), Emma Dillon (Kate McEnery), Father Aidan O'Connell (Don Wycherley), Orla O'Connell (Victoria Smurfit), Danny Byrne (Colin Farrell), and Brian Quigley (Tony Doyle) who, arguably, was the franchise character and driving force of the entire show. Mr. Doyle passed away in January of 2000, just after the last episode of the fifth year of BallyK was broadcast (in December of 1999). There were no more episodes of BallyK until the spring of 2001 at which time series six (the first of 8 episodes) began to be broadcast. Item one of this final year thus was explaining the absence of Brian Quigley, dealing with that and then trying to move on without this central character. Of course, it's still BallyK and a welcoming program to watch, but at one and the same time, not the same anymore without the fulcrum (raison d'ĂȘtre even), of the whole program.
Series Six Episodes
Episode One - God.com
Brian Quigley goes missing & there's a new online confessional.

Episode Four - Spirit Proof
Talk of Ghosts and fishing problems, meanwhile Kathleen learns to drive.

Episode Five - Paul Dooley Sleeps with the Fishes
A stranger in town turns out to be from Avril's past. And the famous Fitzgerald's Bar might be in for a name change.

Episode Six - In a Jam
Vincent is in charge of this year's parish fĂȘte and something appears to be bothering Siobhan.

Episode Seven - Getting Better all the Time
An old friend of Vincent's arrives in Ballykissangel and Liam and Donal have to decide what to do with Quigley's money.

Episode Eight - Smoke Signals
Father Mac confronts Vincent when he finds out that Lyn and Barry are married.

You are shown the discoveries of the Kings and Queens and the painstaking trouble they take to identify the mummies. They show the out-of-the-way inscriptions that spell out a detailed look at everyday life, as well as the secret personal lives of these pharoahs. From the Egyptian museum, and the Giza pyramids, to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, and on to the Aswan quarries, they cover everything in exquisite detail, and with the best professionals in their fields to support their findings. You could watch it 5 times and see something new each time. On the 1-5 scale, I would have to rate this video a 7. In a word -- FANTASTIC!!!

Inside the Actors Studio: Johnny Depp (2002) Review

Inside the Actors Studio: Johnny Depp (2002)
Average Reviews:

Johnny Depp has always seemed like a character actor trapped in a leading man's body. He was initially cast as a teen heart throb in the popular television show, 21 Jump Street - The Complete First Season - a role he grew uncomfortable with because he saw himself being transformed into a commodity for a corporation. So, he decided to deconstruct this image by starring in cult filmmaker John Waters Cry Baby (Director's Cut). He never looked back, starring in a number of diverse films that saw him playing a colourful assortment of oddball outsiders, from Dead Man to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Criterion Collection.
Depp finally sat down with James Lipton in 2002 for an episode of Inside the Actors Studio. It seems rather odd that he would get a career perspective so early in his life, but he has assembled an impressive resume which this show skims broadly over. Depp talks about how he got into music, joined a band and how this led to his first acting gig in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Unfortunately, Lipton skips over Depp's pivotal role in Cry-Baby and instead delves into his first collaboration with Tim Burton with Edward Scissorhands.
Depp also talks about how he got the role in Ed Wood and how he approached the character as well as what influenced his performance: a mix of Ronald Reagan, the Tin Man and Casey Kasem. Thankfully, they cover Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and talk about how he got involved in the project and how he lived with Hunter S. Thompson in order to portray him accurately. Sadly, some of his other films, like Dead Man and The Ninth Gate, aren't discussed leaving you wanting for more. This is certainly not a comprehensive profile but rather a primer on Depp's life and career.

Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile and intriguing actors working today.Launching his career as a teenage heartthrob, then moving into eccentric roles in films like Edward Scissorhands and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, he has alternated between independent films like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and mainstream blockbusters like Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, leading to the inescapable conclusion that his future is as bright and varied as his vivid, unbridled imagination. In this unforgettable 2002 interview, Depp gives the students of the Actors Studio a rare glimpse inside the method that brought inspiring characters, like the charismatic Don Juan DeMarco, gonzo journalist Raoul Duke, and eccentric filmmaker Ed Wood, to life.

A Boyfriend for Christmas (2004) Review

A Boyfriend for Christmas (2004)

I caught this movie on TV last year and thought it was very cute-- just like those romance novels I read. So, when it came out on DVD, I had to buy it.
She is the girl-next-door type who made a wish a long time ago for a boyfriend for Christmas and has pretty much given up on the wish ever coming true. He is a workaholic attorney whose path happens to cross hers--- and not in the best way. A little mistaken identity and holiday magic help the two fall in love. But, once the true identity is revealed, will all bets be off? You'll have to watch and see.
I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't found myself thinking, "How did they get so much time off from work during the holidays?" (smile)
A delightful movie. Perfect for a chilly night when you need some help getting over your own bah humbug feelings.

Midwest Obsession (AKA Beauty's Revenge) (2006) Review

Midwest Obsession (AKA Beauty's Revenge) (2006)
Average Reviews:

Courtney Thorne-Smith portrays the dairy princess from hell who'll do anything to gain the love and affections of local farmer Kyle Secor, even if it means eliminating her main rival, his plain Jane fiancee (played by Tracey Gold). Unfortunately his love for his fiance is more than she bargained for and he's a tough man to land.
Based on a true story, Courtney is completely believable as the deadly beauty queen who is at one time earnest and eager to please and within seconds turns psychotic. It would be too easy to turn this role into something campy, but Courtney displays great restraint. You can occasionally find it playing on Lifetime or LMN, but at this price, it's worth the purchase.
