One Cold Winter's Night was recorded on February 11th, 2006 atthe historic Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo, Norway. Kamelot enlistedrenowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus to chronicle the night'sevents. Arriving with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crewof professionals and equipment including 18 cameras that would be used inand around the concert grounds. The title for the band's first DVD (basedon an earlier Kamelot song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot.Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest inthe country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerouschaos-causing blizzards. A very special thanks goes out to fans that had towait in line before doors opened to the sold out show. We sincerely hope wemanaged to warm you back up!

There is a total of 11 songs on this DVD: The songs include: "want, conflict, stupify, Fear, voices, droppin plates, Shout 2000, Down with the sickness, the game ", **plus** Bonus: "perfect insanity", and "A welcome Burden". Some of the footage is videos some is live performances. All songs on here are NOT clips, all these are full, and uninterupted. On both the videos and live performances, the sound and picture are very good qaulity. This was deffinitly made for DVD. Only complaint in this area is some of the older footage of the band is grainy, VHS quality, But the good thing is they do not show too much of this footage in the video. 95% of the video quality is awsome, and sharp. Besides music, they have plenty of backstage antics, and partying, similar to pantera's DVD. They also tell the orgin of Disturbed and do Bio's on each member, plus each member tells stories. It is a very well rounded DVD, it covers all corners. It is reasonably priced too. Ive watched this 3 times, so there may be even more hidden things on here that I have not yet discovered (although i think i got them all), but I can tell you it is over 2 1/2 hours of entertainment, plus after you have watched all the backstage footage and get tired of that they have an option to just play the songs on the DVD (unlike pantera's DVD). (More customer reviews)The previous reviewer of this disc is correct with his song listing,and so,the two programs being reissued on this disc("A Special From The Spectrum" recorded in Philadelphia and "Live '83",recorded in Utrecht,Holland) are NOT being reissued complete,with "Stand up and Shout" omitted from the Philadelphia concert,and a 20 minute version of "Heaven & Hell" being omitted from the Utrecht show.When I buy a DVD reissue of a program that I've already owned on VHS or Laserdisc,then,ideally,I'd like to get extra songs and supplemental material,but,at the very least,I want to get the original program complete.Although it's true that the song contents of the two concerts overlapped,that's no excuse for dropping songs.I wonder if it was Ronnie James Dio's decision,or merely a stingy record company trying to save money by reducing the payout of mechanical royalties.This DVD is a deplorable rip-off,and useless as an upgrade to fans who already own the complete,uncut programs via previous VHS or Laserdisc releases.This release is an import from Universal Music(who has the non-U.S. rights on the 1980's DIO recordings). Let's hope that Rhino & Warner Brothers(who have the U.S. rights) never release these edited versions of the programs.Oh well,I guess I'll transfer my vintage VHS of the Spectrum concert and my Japanese Laserdisc of the Utrecht concert onto DVD-R.Because this is a virtuoso heavy metal group with substantial amounts of improvisation from the guitarist & drummer,no two performances of a song are identical.A slight overlap in song contents between the Philadelphia & Utrecht shows is NOT a justification to omit the "redundant" songs.Though "Stand Up & Shout" & "Heaven and Hell" were included in both shows,they were hardly identical renditions.This DVD should be taken off the market.Please Rhino & Time-Warner:Spare U.S. fans from this travesty,and NEVER release these edited programs in America.DIO fans:You've been warned about this worthless product.

Iced Earth: Alive in Athens (DVD)Join me for a little Heavy Metal time travel as we go back to the year 1999 to find Iced Earth as they record their first concert performance ever. The album would be done in Athens, Greece in front of a comfortable but still sizable audience and be called Alive In Athens. If you are one of the many Metal bangers that own the triple CD set already, then you are well-aware about this concert and just how excellent it was in capturing the best songs that Iced Earth had to offer the world at that time. The recording found the band in tip-top shape and holding a solid footing in their quest for Heavy Metal dominance. Our return from this trip to 2006 will lead us to the news of an old archive being discovered and inside this would be a long forgotten filming of this concert. The footage would be raw and was shot by a three member video team present at the event. Conversion to a more reliable format using the technology available was a smart thought and the decision to share this with the legions of Iced Earth fans became an immediate one. The audio was given some remaster treatment and soon it was ready to be unleashed on the public. It was a great find for Metal as fans everywhere are scooping up bootlegs at conventions and people are posting their own recordings on mediums like MySpace or YouTube. As a concert itself there are moments in the film that make you feel as though you are watching from the balconies while others place you on the stage looking out to the crowd. There are no dynamic effects and instead it's just a sparsely decorated stage with the band members doling out the Metal in excellent fashion. The three cameras do a great job and while some might balk at the limited amount of videographers at least we got something from this monumental show. Recent interviews have found Schaffer himself displeased with the idea of this videos release but it is the only way to see a full concert with the former singer Matthew Barlow; a performer that a majority of the bands fan base misses very much. Sonically and visually I found nothing wrong with this release and totally recommend it for Iced Earth fans old and new. The amount of full concert footage from Iced Earth is currently limited to this release and if you find yourself wanting a show with this line up you need to look no further than here to get it. Twenty eight songs and running 2.5 hours you cannot go wrong with it. Iced Earth has had a number of lineup changes over the years and Schaffer as founder, remains the only constant of the musical vision. Everyone else in the band for this film has moved on to other pursuits in music and life by this time. This video finds the membership roster as Jon Schaffer (guitar), Matthew Barlow (vocals), James MacDonough (bass), Larry Tarnowski (lead guitar), Brent Smedley (drums) and Rick Risberg (keyboards). As a Metal fan that got into this band later than I should have I was happy to find this video released as it is a musical education in the bands back catalog. Favorite tunes are "Melancholy", "Burning Times", and "Walking In Stygian" among many others. Bonus features include Jon in Athens and backstage footage. A booklet is included and loaded with photos, song lyrics and cool graphics that the group was known for. This is a must have for any Metal fan. Song Listing

Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 10th Anniversary (2005) Review

On the DVD menu screen you get two menu options. You can watch just the live performances that include such up-and-coming acts as Gizmachi, It Dies Today, A Dozen Furies, Trivium, Soilwork, The Haunted, HIM, and Wicked Wisdom and brand names such as Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Velvet Revolver, and Black Sabbath. The other option is to watch said performances with added documentary footage. I highly recommend watching the latter. In addition to some great performances (better in 5.1), you get insight on the past and present of how Ozzfest began and continues to operate. The interviews included stories from the bands, staff, fans, and the Osbournes of course.
After watching the performances, you can pretty much pick out the bands that played the second stage, and which one's were on the main stage. The second stage acts are more raw, furious, and heavy, whereas the main stage acts are more refined and on top of their game. Bonuses include brief interviews with Ozzy, Jack, Slash, Zakk, and Wicked Wisdom. These interviews are most likely outtakes from their main program ones. Also a part of the bonus section is performances from Alterbridge, Mad Capsule Markets, and Bowling for Soup. If you don't have time to watch the DVD, you can take the included live CD to play in the car. It doesn't have all of the performances, but you won't miss the ones they took out.
The Bad
Who invited Wicked Wisdom and Bowling for Soup to Ozzfest? I doubt that this DVD is worth more than one or two spins in your DVD player. You can listen to the live performances on the CD, and interviews and the like are only worth one play anyway. Also, when you promote something as an `anniversary' feature, shouldn't it chronicle the complete history of the event, not just the last show? Oh yeah, I wonder if leaving Iron Maiden out of the disc was intentional (that's sarcasm people). They only carried the majority of the tour when Ozzy's voice went kaput. I was sadden to hear that Ozzy's performance was not the only bad one either, Rob Zombie was way off (not usual for him).
The Verdict
I think I made my points in the statements above. The performances are good, but only for one or two viewings. The documentary footage is informative, but it's not enough to draw me back to this DVD. One particular performance is conveniently missing, and most of the performers are not very well known. When I think of an anniversary collection, I think of the complete history, not just the current year.

(More customer reviews)This is an amazing DVD worth getting by all means. First off I'll get the only bad thing about this out of the way so the I can get to all the greatness. Besides the show there aren't a lot of extra bonus features. Some band/fan interviews and galleries. But that's not even really a complaint, just the letting you know part. And now to the greatness, The performance. First off they give you 3 audio options. Stereo, 5.1 Surround, and DTS. Also the chain has been broken of them playing older tunes which really makes this DVD special as it has some of the older tunes sounding even better than they did on the original cd. It's only a 9 song set but if you're familiar with Opeth you know why that is and it is a great set. Under the Weeping Moon and Night and the Silent Water have never sounded better. The picture is so clean it looks almost hi def. Also this might be the best mixed DVD I've ever heard. No instrument is too low or too loud. It's simply perfect, as is the performance by the band. Every song is played flawlessly and it's good fairwell to Peter Lindgren who will be missed even though his replacement is great also. Anyways, fans and any fan of great metal should pick this up. This is an amazing band and an amazing performance. While Lamentations was a great DVD this one edges it out due to a better setlist and amazing visual and audio quality. Highly recommended.

Megadeth - Rude Awakening (2002) Review

-Dave. Any discussion of Megadeth's DVD should start with him.
In addition to his prodigious musical abilities, he also proves himself to be quite a stage presence. Sure, he doesn't say too much onstage, but he doesn't have to. His voice here is in fine form, as menacing as ever, and he and Al Pitrelli tear it up on guitar.
-The song selection is pretty damn good. Sure, there was no "Five Magics" or "Addicted to Chaos," but as the saying goes, you can't please all the people all the time. Every album gets represented except for "Risk," which I doubt most fans will miss anyway. Megadeth classics like "Reckoning Day," "Peace Sells," "Hangar 18," "Trust," and "Sweating Bullets" get treated here, and I severely doubt anyone will feel cheated.
-The performance of "In My Darkest Hour" is a tear-jerker. Even the guitar riffs are brooding and evocative, and Dave's tortured vocals and lyrics make the song one of the few in thrash-metal history that can accurately be described as moving. It sounds even better here than on CD, and is in my opinion definitely the highlight of the show.
-You get to see Jimmy Degrasso annihilate his drum kit. The drum solo at the end of "She-Wolf" is completely gratuitous, and man is it great.
-The sound quality is uniformly cystal clear. The guitar solos, especially, come out extraordinarily well.
-It's Megadeth, for crying out loud. I shouldn't have to tell why you should want to see such a comprehensive concert from one of metal's defining bands.

Apocalyptica: The Life Burns Tour (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)I have followed this band since their first major lable release of metallica on four cellos. That was great in and of itself, but inquisition symphony, thier second release just blew that away by leaps and bounds, and had the beginnings of great original work. Now 10 years later, and 500+ shows, many of them sold out, and millions of albums later, this and is still very fresh, and as loud as any of the thrash metal bands out there. This video showcases an amazing display of endurance the way they speed through riffs that were originally played on guitar on a giant cello. Apocalyptica is a showcase of excellence in musicianship, and features what should be featured, the music, and not a lot of words and vocals that can distract from awsome musicianship. The show is around 90 minutes long, and just packed with thier best cuts.
But wiat, there's more. For those of you who just have to have lyrics, there are 8 videos, all of which have words sung by several well known artists from Guano Apes, Soulfly, Bullet for My Valentine, and HIM. There is also the making of repressed, and a us tour mini documentary. This is a must have for any apocalyptica fan, and a taste for us fans into what releases are to come in the future. (More customer reviews)this DVD show Dream Theater (DT) live at the historical japanese avenue, the Budokan, at their finest. i think DT have taken their music at another highest after having Rudess on keys, he is much more than just a keyboardist, combining speed, technique, musicality, together with Petrucci, Portnoy and Myung, they expanded their musical level to somewhere that no one had done before. and this DVD show what the best the fivesome can probably do (not the last one, Metropolis 2000, though that feature Rudess as well but the whole DVD is badly produced).
the concert footage consist of 18 songs, 5 from the lastest ablum "Train of Thought" (As I Am, This Dying Soul, Endless Sacrifice, Stream of Consciousness and In the Name of God), and some old stuff, also a new "Instrumedley", a combination of some their highly technically instrumental medley from their old songs, neck-breaking solo, breathe-taking unison, head-turning drum works, what else can i say about this... i really can't find one second from the performance that's not satisfying, their performance is no doubt at their finest.
and on disc 2, you'll be amazed that they are much more that a player/musician, they have so much knowledge on their instrument, Rudess's "turnable" keyboard setup is mind blowing, he even considered about the emergency power supply, and Petrucci's guitar setup is just as stunning, he take care of his instrument to a very subtle detail, not to mention Portnoy monster drumkit and his drum solo......
DT is no doubt one of the most influential band nowadays, not only because their superb music and musicianship, but also on their devotion on their instruments, fans and the business as well... this DVD will become one of the classic live DVD of all time, don't miss it!!

Metalocalypse: Season One (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Adult Swim have realy outdone themselves this time. Who would have thought that a cartoon about a post-apocalyptic death metal band ruling the world would be this good? Whether they're unleashing swarms of murderous kitties on an unsuspecting populous, summoning giant trolls to ravage the countryside, trying their hand at stand-up comedy (death metal style), or destroying hippies with the combined darkness of thrash and the blues Dethklok always finds a way to keep the mayhem coming.
Featuring the world's fastest guitarist, a bassist who can pull off a wicked solo playing with his johnson, an alcoholic drummer who used to front a bad 80's metal band, an amusingly naive childish rhythm guitarist, and a singer who talks in his growling metal voice all the time and is obsessed with all things brutal, the show is never short of hilarious characters to abuse and the laughs just do not stop. And I haven't even mentioned Dr. Rockso, the rock 'n roll clown who uses his high Axl Rose-ish voice to screech his catch phrase, "I DO COCAINE!!!" at anyone who will listen.
The music is fantastically metal with plenty of double-bass drums, shredding guitar, and nearly incoherent ranting (the subtitles help lots) that will make you bang your head and laugh at the same time. The episodes are short, to the point, and packed with satire, heavy metal references (a fast food place named Dimmu Burger, anyone?), and shear insanity. My personal favorite episode involves bassist William Murderface looking for religion after a near-death experience. The band takes him to a lame christian rock show where several concert-goers and band members wind up dying grisly deaths after a Dethklok member tries to join the fun by starting a mosh pit. Later, they give devil worshipping a try in what has to be one of the funniest animated scenes (and possibly most true to life) I've ever watched. Best satanic quote ever: "Pick up after yourselves; this is a Church of Satan, not a wastepaper basket."
If you don't see a special features menu when you fire up your DVD's, don't freak out. The bizarre assortment of features are hidden within the menu and can be found by moving the cursor to highlight different parts of the logo or band members' faces. There is a tour of Dethklok's compound, Mordhaus, a series of amusing band interviews, a slightly extended Murderface bass solo, a montage featuring the series' more violent moments, and even a little porn. Then there's the 20 minutes of frontman Nathan Explosion reading Shakespeare; if you can sit through that, you are a bigger fan than I. My only complaint is that -while the special features are freeballing it- the show itself remains censored. Sure, the cool guitar noises beat the hell out of the bleeps other shows use, but they should be optional. Still it's a minor complaint about an awesome set.
So if you're a metalhead with a sense of humor or are looking for some truly twisted, violent, and laugh-out-loud funny animated entertainment to NOT share with your children then "Metalocalypse" is as good as it gets. And with each episode clocking in at a little over 10 minutes, it's a fantastic way to catch some quick laughs and hear some headbanging good music on the run. "Now go forth and DIIIIIEEEE!!!!"

(More customer reviews)If you like Metal, _This Is Spinal Tap_, "Beavis and Butthead", the mockumentary genre, lots of death and explosions, other Adult Swim shows, brilliant writing and animation, great comedy, dark humor, buy this DVD collection now. Support quality programs on Adult Swim. They ruthlessly kill off good shows as seemingly as often as people get offed in Metalocalypse. Season 2 sees the return of characters introduced in the first series, some of whom viewers were given the impression were probably dead or gone for good. This was a pleasant surprise as is the further development of the characters. There's more to some of them than you first realize. Season 2 also continues to follow a certain strange top secret orginization monitor and cause trouble for the band. It does have me curious how they'll wrap that up. I do know this - the concluding episodes of seasons 1 and 2 are so kick *** they leave you wanting more.
