Brainy Baby - Laugh & Learn (2004) Review

Brainy Baby - Laugh and Learn (2004)
Average Reviews:

The Brainy Baby Right Brain is the first of the Brainy Baby series I bought. Then I came across Laugh and Learn and decided to give it a try.
It starts with different babies wearing silly masks and making funny faces. Then goes on about colors, shapes, matching, guessing game, 'yes' or 'no', alphabets and numbers.
The DVD is long - so it is advisible to watch it with the baby (if you can) and try to repeat what was said (usually 'yes', 'no', names of colors, etc.).
It is too long in one sitting, but I admit I usually just let it play. Baby will do something else after a long while, but periodically go back to the front of the TV and see what the chuckles are all about.
I recommend Brainy Baby series. I have bought a few others well in advance of my baby's learning, but I am sure it will be handy when he gets older.
The bonus material includes a story telling board, Baby Bloopers, and music video. Quite a lot of material packed into one DVD.
This is suitable only for older babies (10 months +++).

The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave (2000) Review

The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave (2000)

Hilarious stunts, slapstick humor, outrageous characterizations, and just good all around schtick makes this an extremely entertaining movie for the family. The people who put this movie together realize that it was not intended for a cerebral study in filmmaking; it was meant to just flat out make you laugh. My wife and kids were just howling at various scenes ranging from the stinky lunch room to the slammy whammy infomercial. We must have replayed that slammy whammy infomercial over 20 times, proving how kids can appreciate well written comedy. This movie is not for the prudes, snobs, or bores but definitely for the hip, open minded, slapstick in most of us. Watch it with the family without any hesitation.

Break out the body-casts! The world's most painfully hilarious stuntman is back with a powder-keg of laughs! Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) gives a crash course in comedy in this wacky adventure of daredevil antics, whip-lash humor and crash-test love that'll break every funny bone in your body! Things couldn't get much worse for Super Dave. After a near-fatal accident he discovers that he's been bankrupted by his swindling manager and foreclosed on by the bank. Devastated and ready to hang up his crash helmet, Super Dave finds strength in a klutzy-but-cute single mom (Gia Carides, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me!) and her ailing young son, Timmy. And when he learns that Timmy needs an expensive heart operation, Super Dave shuns retirement to raise the money. Even if it means facing off against his arch enemy, Gil, a slimy sports promoter (Dan Hedaya, Dick), to once again prove that he's not only the most outrageous dare-devil he's also the most accident-prone!

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Vol. 1 (2009) Review

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Vol. 1 (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Out of several cartoon shows that appear on Cartoon Network, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack stands out. It is very unique and entertaining, just like Chowder.
The main characters of the show is a young adventure seeking and candy loving boy named Flapjack, and his maple syrup drinking pirate buddy Captain K'nuckles. Also we have the always protective and loving whale, Bubbie, who raised Flapjack since he was an infant.
The series follows the trio as they partake on adventures on Stormalong Harbor and beyond. Always seeking a way to get to Candied Island, or at least getting some free candy from Peppermint Larry.
The show has a great deal of entertainment value, but some may disagree with me. But all of us are entitled to our own opinion. Personally, I really like the show and its unique characters. The animation is different, plus like Chowder, it utilizes stop-motion animation!
Below is a list of episodes and special features that are included on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Volume One.
1. Several Leagues Under The Sea/Cammie Island
2. Several Leagues Above The Sea/That's A Wrap
3. Lookin' For Love In All The Wrong Barrels/Beard Buddies
4. Skooled/Snarked
5. Capatain and ToeNeil (never seen it before, possibly wrong one listed or it may be a brand new never before seen episode)
Special Features
- Adventures in Voice Acting Featurette
- Adventures in Animation Featurette
- Misadventures in Song Featurette
- Meet Thurop! Featurette
My advice, if your a fan of the series or if you actually like it, buy it. It's a good series with some interesting characters and unique animation. Pre-order your copy and enjoy!

Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted? (2009) Review

Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nick Swardson, the popular young comedian known for his roles as Terry Bernadino on "Reno 911!", his film "Grandma's Boy" (which he co-wrote) and appearances in films such as "Art School Confidential", "The Benchwarmers", "Blades of Glory", "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and more.
With the release of his Comedy Central DVD "Seriously, Who Farted?", Swardson takes on the following topics of enjoying things much more when he's drunk such as fast food, to topics of playing XBOX 360 with his buddies and cussing and people around the complex thinking he is shooting gay porn and weed. For the most part, a lot of the comedy is about having a good time and having fun with his friends, getting drunk and comedy that definitely targets the college and young adult crowd. The Austin, Texas crowd was very receptive and supportive and definitely Swardson fed off that that energy that night.
The following is the chapter listing for "Seriously, Who Farted?""
* Intro
* Booze is Magic
* Gay?
* Weed is Dope
* Pot Brownies
* Old Lady Hand Job
* Ninja Job
* UFC
* Blades of Glory
* Monkeys
* Being Old People Part 2
VIDEO & AUDIO:
Video is featured in widescreen. Swardson's comedy routine is well-lighted and although backgrounds are kept simple, the good thing thing is that the comedy does show quite a bit of audience reaction with good shots at the audience. Camera angles are either close up, body shot, at various positions towards the audience and way up high above the audience. Editing is well-done. Not dizzying at all. Camera angle stays on the comedian for most of the time.
Audio is featured in Dolby Digital. I opted to have my receiver set at stereo on all channels in order to have the audio all around me. But audio is understandable and clear. Audience laughter is also quite clear and doesn't disturb Swardson's performance.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"Nick Swardson - Seriously, Who Farted?" comes with the following special features:
* Opening Act: Beardo & Dirt Nasty - (7:39) Known for their narcotic/drug/sex-inspired music videos on "Funny or Die", Beardo & Dirt Nasty open Swardson's comedy show by performing a rock and a hip hop song.
* 28 Drinks Later - (2:44) A trailer for a zombie film (or just a trailer) about Swardson and a few people who get drunk at a bar and awaken to find the whole city of Los Angeles turning to drunk zombies due to alcohol consumption.
* Nick Swardson: Timeless Comedian - (7:12) Frazier Smith interviews Nick Swardson about his comedy and showcases his stand-up comedy since the 1920's.
* A Very Terry Christmas - (2:21) Featuring Swardson's "Reno 911' gay, roller skating character Terry singing Christmas songs.
JUDGMENT CALL:
Nick Swardson's comedy DVD "Seriously, Who Farted?" definitely showcases the comedian's love for beer and alcohol. He loves it, repeats it and his comedy routine definitely works. Especially for the audience who go crazy when he talks about alcohol or drugs. College humor at its finest, I have to admit that I was so used to seeing Swardson on film and television that I never really seen his comedy routine. I knew he was a funny guy but I didn't know he was a comedian.
But watching "Seriously, Who Farted?", I couldn't help but laugh repeatedly. His comedy is definitely understandable and can be easily appreciated by those familiar with the topics he discusses and the fact that he uses certain situations that reach a young crowd, discussions of XBOX 360 or Nintendo Wii is one thing, but for audiences who have been in a drunk stupor, are familiar with pot brownies, Asian massage parlors, UFC, ninjas and can laugh quite easily at monkeys, definitely will find Swardson's comedy DVD to be quite fun and refreshing.
Sure, there are many drunk comedians but Swardson's comedy is quite hilarious because he's like the guy next door, the guy you went to college with, the guy you partied with... And I think what makes him so different from other comedians is the wacky roles he plays on films such as the gay skater in "Reno 911', the guy who lives at home and never has success with women in "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" or the Dance Dance Revolution gamer in "Grandma's Boy". Supporting roles that are just hilarious to watch and Swardson himself is just a funny comedian that will definitely make you laugh, pee in your pants or make you feel that you're going to bust a gut. It's that hilarious!
As for a Comedy Central DVD, you get the good camera angles but it would have been extra nice if this DVD release had been given the treatment of an audio CD (like Comedy Central's Russell Peters DVD release) because this is the kind of comedy that you would want to listen to in long commutes.
Overall, Swardson's "Seriously, Who Farted?" is a hilarious comedy DVD worth checking out!

Backwoods (2008) Review

Backwoods (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't have high expectations for this movie. To my way of thinking, the world already has more than enough B-horror movies featuring a group of young people going out into the woods and being attacked by a bunch of dirty, disgusting backwoods cretins. To make matters worse, the characters in this film are all taking part in a corporate team-building retreat (not a reunion - the information in the editorial review is less than accurate), a practice I consider to be one of the most infernal ideas mankind has ever come up with. And wouldn't you know it? These young video game company executives turn out to be among the most annoying people on the planet. Only two have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, the one dude who isn't really in to all of the kissing up and debauched camaraderie (Ryan Merriman) and the hot girl who's sort of uncomfortable with her jerk boss's constant touchy-feely sessions with her (Haylie Duff). To my surprise, the film actually grew some legs somewhere in the middle - but not enough to really win me over. In the end, a complete lack of originality consigns Backwoods to the ranks of the slightly below average. Think Wrong Turn meets The Hills Have Eyes, and you'll pretty much have Backwoods all figured out.
I wasn't sure what to make of the name Tom Alan Smithee being given to a character (and a minor character, at that). As most B-movie buffs know, "Alan Smithee" is the name film directors use when they know they've made a real stinker and don't want their real names associated with the project. Maybe the character name is just a coincidence, but the fact that Smithee and his girlfriend turn up on Missing posters as having last been seen on February 30 seems to indicate that the script writer may have had a sense of humor about the whole thing. (Unfortunately, these in-jokes are the only creative aspects of the entire film.)
So our stereotypical characters all go out to the middle of nowhere to play paintball, hone their "executive tactics," and have their teamwork skills reviewed by their obnoxious boss. Being hot-shot executives and all, they happily set up camp in what they know is a restricted area that used to house some sort of military installation. The one unhappy camper among them soon notices all of the obvious evidence that they're not alone, but no one wants to listen to his party pooping warnings. The next thing you know, the gang is besieged by a group of religious fanatics who proceed to beat the crap out of the six guys while preparing the two females for use in increasing the local nutjob population.
Backwoods was apparently produced for Spike TV, so don't expect to see much in the way of blood and gore. (Needless to say, there's no nudity whatsoever.) Some old-fashioned traps make the chase scenes through the forest somewhat interesting, but I pretty much relied on Haylie Duff's hotness to get me through the film's 80 minute runtime (although I must admit I got quite a kick out of watch a mortally wounded techie put on an amazing show of shooting bad guys without even aiming.) If you're a horror fan, Backwoods is certainly a watchable film, but you won't see anything here you haven't seen before.
