(More customer reviews)OK, I'm going to be honest--I originally got the DVD because I'm a fan of Girls Next Door & thought it looked like it would be a fun workout, based on the episode I saw where the girls were putting the video together. As it turns out, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how challenging the workouts actually were... though I was really disappointed with Kendra's, which really felt like a waste of time to me. Here's a break-down of each 15-minute workout:
Holly's 'Express' Workout:
By far my favorite on the DVD, Holly's routine is very user-friendly & leaves you feeling like you've been working out for a lot longer than the 15 minutes. Though it doesn't mention it on the packaging, you'll need weights and an exercise ball.
Bridget's 'Boot Camp' Workout:
No complaints here; I was sore the next day, though, that's for sure! Bridget takes the 'Boot Camp' theme seriously and leads a rigorous, total-body toning session in her 15 minutes; the only downside is that she seems really, really nervous & it comes across every once in awhile during her routine. You'll need a pair of weights for this workout.
Kendra's Martial Arts Demonstration:
Really, this workout isn't even worth bothering with. Think Tae-Bo, but really watered-down and with a blond ponytail, and you've got it. The first three minutes of her section are basically of her dancing, followed by 10 minutes or so of jump roping & a few martial arts moves (kicking, punching and shadow boxing) I didn't even break a sweat during this one.
Overall, a great DVD with charismatic, encouraging "leaders" for quick, fun toning--just skip Kendra's section and work through Holly & Bridget's for a heart-pumping 30 minute workout.

The Girls Next Door - Season 1 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)After hearing about the show and seeing a handful of episodes, I was interested in this release to see if they would show any nudity. When I here a show is uncensored, I'm always skeptical because does anyone remember when MTV released a Real World video back in the late 90s that was marketed as uncensored - teasing that you could see all the nudity from the show, only to discover it was censored after all? Well, more on this later.
I was in the mood for more DVDs that might contain sexy nude women when I bought this one, so I also picked up Girls Gone Wild's "Spring Break 2005" DVD set and CandyGirl Video: Sweet Satisfaction Jasmine Grey Special Edition (Includes Mini Jasmine Grey Pin-Up). All 3 were different, but I really wanted to comment on this Season 1 set from E! and Playboy of "The Girls Next Door" to clarify some things for fans of the tv show.
First off, YES - this show is completely UNCENSORED. That means, all the nudity that was blurred on the tv program can be seen here. And let me tell you, if you dig Holly Madison, then you get to see a lot of great nude scenes of her. Lots of sexy "oops" moments involving Holly are shown in all their uncut glory. My favorite is from the Vegas trip show, where Holly pops right out of her top infront of everyone as she and the girls leave their hotel - priceless. Another great scene is of Holly as she walks down the stairs on her way to a photo shoot - fully nude! So, there's plenty of nudity and great eye candy like that. As for the show itself, it's just pure eye candy with no real reason or point to any of it, but that's it's charm. You'll see lots of the Playboy mansion and get a real look into Hef's day-to-day life, which is interesting.
As for the DVD overall, I wasn't thrilled with the extras. The commentary is nice and entertaining, and I love the option to listen to the show bleeped or unbleeped but the deleted scenes are nothing to write home about. They're very short and when you see them, you'll realize why they were indeed "deleted scenes". The only decent extras are on disc 3 and they're the "Hef's World" unaired pilot, the Girls Personality tests and a still photo gallery. My only real complaint is the packaging. They didn't use the nice foldout digipak design with clear trays - instead, they used the cheap slim cases, one for each disc, and placed them in a slipcase. It get's the job done, but for any box set or multi-disc set, I really prefer the digipaks. I can overlook all this because I did infact, buy it to see the uncensored version of the show, so I'm happy.
With 15 episodes and 3 discs, this is really a bargin at under $20! If season 2 is as good as season 1, then I'll be a loyal fan of "The Girls Next Door" for some time to come!

(More customer reviews)By now the world knows these three beautiful women by name: Holly, Bridget, and Kendra are no longer described simply as "Hef's Girlfriends" (although they are...all 3 of them). Thanks to the E channels hit reality show the Girls Next Door, people are able to get to know these women, and take a quick glimpse into the amazing lives that they lead at the Playboy Mansion.
Holly is girlfriend #1 -- she sleeps with Hef in "their" bedroom, has been dating Hef for the longest (going on 6 years now!), and in general maintains the status of Lady of the House. She's a real sweetheart, and while she dreams to someday be able to marry Hef and start of family of her own, she still enjoys the close friendships she's made with Bridget (who has been dating Hef for about 4 years), and Kendra (who has been dating Hef for about 2 years now). The three of them together equal tons of fun, and they each bring a unique personality to the show.
This DVD boxset is awesome. It is 100% completely uncensored -- so anything that is either blurred, bleeped, or edited out for content control while the episodes air on live TV, is likewise left alone for the DVDs. Boobs, butt, and cuss words abound, so even if you've seen all the episodes on TV, I guarentee the experience is quite different once you view them again on DVD.
One of my favorite features of these discs would be the commentary. All three women provide commentary for each and every episode, and I fully recommend taking advantage of that fact. They will nitpick the episode apart, tell the audience when and where the network took a few too many liberties with the editing, and basically provide a little extra insight, and some interesting little tidbits. Holly personally stated that she loves doing the commentary for all the episodes because it gives her the opportunity to sometimes "set the record straight" and "have the last word" on some of the many mansion escapades!
Don't miss out, because these are seriously some of the most entertaining DVDs you'll own! I've considered it a very wise investment!
