(More customer reviews)Since 2006, "Hannah Montana" has not only been a popular television series for the Disney Channel but a series that has definitely made Miley Cyrus, daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, a bonafide star.
It was one thing to watch this young teenager who was 13-years old at the time, grow up and become a popular television star and music talent that would sell out many concert venues, has had her music on top of the Billboard charts and now has two Disney films under her belt.
The first film from Disney focused on a 3D version of her concert and television show personality but this time around, "Hannah Montana: The Movie" takes to the big screen and takes a more serious look at Miley Cyrus's character as her pop star identity has now affected her family and he friendship and has come to the point that the lifestyle of a popstar has gotten to her head.
The film is directed by Peter Chelsom ("Shall We Dance", "Serendipity" and "Town & Country"), a screenplay by Daniel Berendsen ("Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", "The Cheetah Girls: One World") , composer John Debney ("The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", "Spider-Man 3" and "Sin City") and cinematographer David Hennings ("Strange Wilderness", "Blue Crush" and "Ice Princess").
For those not familiar with the television series, former music artist Robby Ray Stewart (Billy Ray Cyrus) has moved his family (which include Miley, played by Miley Cyrus, and her older brother Jackson, played by Jason Earles) from Tennessee to Malibu in order to manage his daughter Miley's music career. But in order to keep sanity at their home and keep their family together, he and Miley has kept secret identities and Miley dons a blonde wig and goes by the name Hannah Montana.Along with her best friend Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment) and friend Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso), who also take on disguises, help protect Miley's secret.
In "Hannah Montana: The Movie", the film picks up with Hannah Montana's career doing quite well and is now managed by Vita (Vanessa Williams). While Vita is successfully booking Hannah in various, major events, the fame has kept her busy to be with family (to celebrate Jackson's entrance to college) and Lilly's birthday party. To make things worse, a member of the paparazzi is trying to figure out Hannah Montana's secret.
After Hannah ends up getting into fight with Tyra Banks over some shoes and getting plastered on the newspapers and disrupting Lilly's birthday party by coming as Hannah Montana, Robby Ray feels that his daughter Miley can't balance her time as a family member and friend and is focusing too much of her life as Hannah Montana and thus tricks her to going to Tennessee (instead of an award ceremony in New York).
Hannah is not pleased that her father has tricked her and prevented her from attending the award show and is upset that he dragged her to the farmlife in Tennessee. But Robby Ray wants her to remember where she came from and that Tennessee was their home before California.
While in Tennessee, Miley tries to adjust to the slow-paced life and meets an old friend when she was younger named Travis Brody (Lucas Till) who she becomes closer too, while her father Robby Ray gets closer to Lorelai (Melora Hardin), but with both of them having to live secret lives, can Miley or Robby Ray ever be able to have a normal life?
"Hannah Montana: The Movie" comes with three discs. The first is the Blu-ray Disc, the second being the Digital Copy and the third is the DVD.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"Hannah Montana: The Movie" is featured in 1080p High Definition with an aspect ration of 1:85:1. For the most part, the film is absolutely vibrant. There are many outdoor scenes that showcase the film's color. May it be the shot at Lilly's birthday party at Santa Monica Beach to the lush area of Tennessee. The film definitely showcases a broad spectrum of colors, all of which are sharp, clear and absolutely eye-popping. For the most part, David Hennings did a great job with utilizing the environment with this film and overall, picture quality is magnificent.
As for audio, this is probably the first time I have seen Disney sport an English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (the film is also presented in French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital). The dialogue is crystal clear and as much as this film is dialogue driven, with it also being somewhat of a musical as well, music plays a big part of this film and sounds fantastic. Definitely good utilization of surrounds to pick up crowd ambiance or the animals at the farm but for the most part, this is a film where dialogue is king and music is also a big part of the film. Thus the soundtrack is quite crystal clear, the lossless audio definitely makes the music come alive.
As for subtitles, "Hannah Montana: The Movie is presented in English SDH, French and Spanish.
A DVD is included and sports a widescreen (1:85:1) - enhanced for 16×9 televisions and an audio soundtrack sporting a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound soundtrack.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"Hannah Montana: The Movie" features the following special features with some in 1080p High Definition or 480i Standard Definition:
* Audio Commentary by Director Peter Chelsom - Peter Chelsom is the type of director who utilizes his commentary to thoroughly setup a scene and give credit to who came up with the ideas in pulling them off. From utilizing scenes from Miley Cyrus's first film and inserting scenes into the film to how animals were brought in to the film and managing over a thousand extras, this is a very thorough commentary.
* Deleted Scenes - (10:35) A total of four deleted scenes which features an introduction by director Peter Chelsom discussing why they were removed. But for the most part, Chelsom says the film is the final cut and mostly all footage was utilized in the film. But the four deleted scenes included are: "Jackson: I'm Pretending to Be at University...", "How Are We Going to Get Hannah Down to Crowley Corners?", "Oswald and the Hannah Wigs" and "Oswald, The Ostrich and the Alligator"
* Music Videos - (9:30) There are a total of seven music videos included. Music videos featured are: "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus (3:52), "Back to Tennessee" by Billy Ray Cyrus (4:22), "You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home" by Miley Cyrus (3:49), "Let's Get Crazy" by Miley Cyrus (2:59), "The Climb" (movie version) by Miley Cyrus (4:06), "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts (4:17) and "Crazier" by Taylor Swift (3:15).
* The Hoedown Throwdown Home Experience - A Blu-ray exclusive only. This featurette is learning the popular dance created for the film (featured during the fundraising event and the ending credits) and features the full featurette titled "Everybody Now" (14:39) featuring how all the cast members (and crew) learned the dance by choreographer Jamal Sims. While, for those who just want to watch "how to do the dance", they can watch the "Learn the Moves (9:47) featuring choreographer Jamal Sims with "Hannah Montana" talents Mitchel Musso and Moises Arias.
* Find Your Way Back Home - (15:05) A featurette with three segments. The first features Miley Cyrus and mother Trish showing us around Franklin, Tennessee and the various shops and eateries. The second is Billy Ray Cyrus showing us Tennessee and talking about how it's home for the Cyrus family. While the final segment features Emily Osment showing us Los Angeles and Hollywood and the key spots to visit.
* I Should Have Gone to Film School with Jason Earles - (15:18) Jason Earles takes us behind-the-scenes of the "Hannah Montana: The Movie" film and introduces us to the crew and what their responsibilities are. Especially for "Best Man", "Grip" and "Gaffer" and differences between a Assistant Director and a Director's Assistant.
* Fun with Hannah and the Gang - (3:53) The blooper reel from the film.
* B Disney Live - Fans can connect with family and friends through the innovative movie-watching experience! People will need a profile 2.0 Blu-ray player to take advantage of this capability.
JUDGMENT CALL:
When it comes to "Hannah Montana: The Movie", it's almost similar to what I had to say about "The Jonas Brothers: 3-D Concert Experience" in that these films are created for their fans.
"Hannah Montana" is a popular children's television show with a large following and I have watched many television shows with my son and although I'm not as familiar with her music, every decade there are shows that will appeal to their young fans and many of those who scratch their heads and just don't get why people find it so appealing. In the 80's we had "Kids Incorporated", in the 90's we had "Saved By the Bell" and although Saturday morning teen shows and afternoon teen shows on network television are a thing of the past, these shows have continued on the Disney Channel and "Hannah Montana" is simply a popular series with a lot of merchandising behind the series and its star Miley Cyrus.
And those who are not fans, they are going to criticize and those who never cared for Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus, it's a given that they are not going to give a care for this film.
But how did I feel about the film? As a guy who tends to write a lot about teen or young entertainment worldwide, may it be their music or television careers, I enjoyed the film. Of course, it all comes from my knowledge of the series and knowing how quarky the television series is but also knowing the difficult the character of Miley Stewart has in juggling both worlds of a normal teenager and a pop star.

Kids these days are watching shows that are not age appropiate and I'm glad they can watch That's So raven rather than O.C.
I'm really annoyed by people saying it's gay. I'm really disturbed by Ben Tony's review.

I love this show. It's sad but true. Raven cannot model the dress because she's not skinny. Meanwhile Cory and William come with ideas to raise money for a Game Ball 2.

This show is where Raven dresses up as a pop star to get her dad's job back. She feels it's her duty since she's the one who got him fired.
C He's Got the Power
Eddie gets psychic powers and acts really snotty. He gains new friends and a forgets about the old ones. When a prediction goes wrong, Raven and Chelsea come to his rescue.D Boyz N Commotion
Alana's replacement, Beyonca, and the crew don't beleive Raven knows the boys. When they promise that they have her back, Raven agrees to letting them perform at the show without asking them. When she does, they say no because their dropping out of show business. Raven and her friends impersonate them.

Anyway, this DVD includes five different shows and three of which are premiering for the first time ever on DVD. The shows include:

The only thing about this DVD that really annoyed me (and forced me to deduct a star from it's rating) is the fact that it has absolutely no special features whatsoever! There aren't even subtitles! At least you're able to select which episode you want to see if you don't feel like watching them all or pressing the "skip" button the the remote control.

Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Though each individual episode of the hit Disney Channel TV show "Wizards of Waverly Place" is fun and quirky in its own right, all the material (acting, plot, witty one-liners) seems to fly by so fast that the viewer isn't left with much real emotion. It's almost as if the show gets so caught up in the formula (Alex does bad but prevails, Justin does good but never gets rewarded, etc.) that it doesn't take enough time to slow down and really examine the relationships between any of the characters. Luckily, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" movie solves that problem.
For a basic plot summary, the magical Russo family begins the film with Mom and Dad dragging the kids off on a vacation to recreate their honeymoon. The usual eye-rolling and complaints begin, but Alex (played by the always-entertaining Selena Gomez) takes things one step too far by metaphorically wishing (while holding the family's magic wand) that her parents had never even met, thus they wouldn't be on this "stupid vacation" in the first place. Of course, thanks to the wand, that wish is granted, and suddenly the Russo siblings are no longer part of a family, as Mom and Dad don't even recognize each other. The rest of the film, then, centers on the kids' quest to find the "Stone of Dreams", a magical, enchanted item that can grant any wish or reverse any spell.
With the expanded feature-length runtime, the plot and character development of the film are able to be realized much more deeply than in any previous episode. We get to learn more about both parents and why they are like they are, as well as how the Russo children (namely Justin and Alex) view each other and what can be done to better those relations. In a touching scene that just might make you start to see through some mist, both Alex and Justin come to terms with each other involving the sometimes-bitter sibling rivalry that has existed between them from the very beginning. This plot line is also a great message for younger children, promoting the values of family and working together.
As usual, the acting is also spot-on. Dad (David DeLuise) and Mom (Maria Canals-Barrera) are at their over-the-top best, while Alex (Gomez) and Justin (David Henrie) are constantly involved in a brilliant give-and-take that will have you both laughing and misting over at different occasions. Even youngest brother Max (Jake T. Austin) hits all the right buttons as the somewhat dumb-founded, yet very innocent bringer of the more physical comic relief.
So, considering this film's ability to delve deeper into the relationships between each character, I consider it to be a rousing success and look forward to great things from the show going forward. Plus, the climax of the final results in the long-awaited "Wizard Challenge", which will determine the Russo child who will come away with the magical powers into adulthood and thus set the stage for Season Three on the Disney Channel.

Hannah Montana, Vol. 1 - Livin' the Rock Star Life (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been on this earth for thirty-one years and I'm proud to say that I like "Hannah Montana." My daughter is totally captivated by this series and by young Miley Cyrus, who heads up the cast of the show. We already own "Pop Star Profile" and my daughter (and me) watch the series on the Disney Channel together. The show is funny, light, girlishly silly at times and one of the safest shows for youngsters and pre-teens around. Don't let the "safest" comment scare you. This show is full of smart laughs for kids and in-jokes for their parents who know where Miley's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, came from.
This particular DVD contains four episodes of the series. They are "Money For Nothing, Guilt For Free," "Lilly, Do You Want To Know A Secret," "Miley Get Your Gum," and "I Can't Make You Love Hannah If You Don't." These particular shows revolve around Miley going to great lengths to keep (and in a couple of cases, revealing) her secret life as pop star, Hannah Montana. Fans of "High School Musical" will recognize Corbin Bleu as a reluctant fan of Montana in one episode.
I have to agree with another reviewer that this show's characters have great chemistry on the tube. Cyrus, Emily Osment (Lilly), and Mitchel Musso (Oliver) are believable as best friends. Jason Earles is terribly terrific as Miley's goofy brother, Jackson. The elder Cyrus does his part as well playing a father who thinks he's a lot cooler than he actually is and tries to deal with his daughter growing up.
The extras on the disc are okay. There's a music video for "Best Of Both Worlds," Miley talking about gaining the role of Hannah and following her dreams, and her audition tapes.
Overall, this entire series is perfect for youngsters to watch. Hannah can be silly at times and she even makes some bad choices, but in the end, she suffers the consequences and deals with her problems like a fairly normal pre-teen. She and all of the other kids in the show seem pretty grounded, don't expect everything handed to them, don't dress or act like sluts, and are all-around decent kids. That's rare on TV these days, even in most "family" shows.
In a world where hotel heiresses who proclaim, "That's hot," are applauded for their social status, it's nice to see that a few young ladies still know how to act like real young ladies.
Highly recommended.

Being a Hannah Montana fanatic, I thought about going out and getting it the first day it was released. But, instead, I waited and got it at the library. And, boy, am I glad I waited! Personally, I think this DVD is really boring. For one thing, these just aren't my fave episodes. And for another, these are really popular episodes, that everyone has already seen at least twice.
As far as Bonus Features go, they have two. Billy Ray Cyrus singing "Ready, Set, Don't Go"; and a "Behind the Scenes" with the cast.
The music video is okay, but like the episodes, everyone has already seen it a half dozen times. Also, on the thing with the cast, they ask really boring questions, like "Would you like to have another identity?" or "Are you good with secrets?" They ask those same questions in every interview and magazine article!
Overall, this is a DVD chock full of, well, nothing new. But, if you could find it on sale somewhere for 5 bucks, it might be nice to have, just to add to your collection.

Cory in the House (All Star Edition) (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)This Disney Channel original TV show (a spin-off from "That's So Raven") is about Cory Baxter (Kyle Massey), the son of White House Chef (Rondell Sheridan). Cory's best buddy is Newt Livingston (Jason Dolley), the Chief Justice's son, and Meena Paroom (Maiara Walsh), the daughter to the Bahavian Ambassador. The 3 teen leads in the cast have great chemistry and work well; my one gripe is that Maiara Walsh just can't seem to get a grasp on her accent; it comes and goes during dialogue, but is most definitely gone whenever she is singing. Can Disney hire a dialect coach for this girl? Minor point, as they all seem to be having lots of fun in this family show that is safe for all to watch together. The episodes on this disc are: "The Presidential Seal," "Through the Roof," "Lip Service," "Peace Love and Misunderstanding" which was unaired. "Peace Love" is probably one of the best ones, as it gives a good lesson in being tolerant of other's beliefs and not making snap judgments based on stereotypes. Saruza Zamuti (Natalie Amenula) is a new love interest of Cory's who turns out to be from a country at odds with Meena's country. Cory finds himself stuck in the middle of the two girls. Kudos to Natalie for doing much better with her accent!
The extra featurette, "Breakin' Down Cory In The House" is really very good (about 12 minutes); it is a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making "Cory in the House," including writing the script, doing the sets, wardrobe, camera angles, editing, stunts, what the cast does when they "hang out," and a taste of what being in the audience during filming is like. Very informative for youngsters not familiar with what goes into putting a sitcom together (hey kids, know what a "table read" is? you will after watching this!). DVD previews of other upcoming Disney movies are also included.
So for children/young teens, you will find this set to be enjoyable.

By day she is Miley Stewart, an average teen girl living an average life, but by night she's Hannah Montana, teen pop sensation. Miley usually likes to keep her second life on the down low but in this collection she is tempted to throw caution to the wind and reveal her secret to the world.
Jake Ryan, a famous TV actor, enrolls at Miley's school and unlike her he absorbs all the attention. Jake gets everything his heart desires while Miley starts to get shafted (her locker is even moved to the basement to make room for Jakes mega star locker). Miley gets really irritated with the way everyone drools over Jake when she is just as (and maybe even more) famous then he is. Later on, however, she starts to see another side of Jake Ryan and a little crush develops.
This collection contains four episodes all revolving around Miley and Jake's relationship:
The New Kid in School:
Jake Ryan enrolls at Miley's school. She gets irritated with the way he gets special treatment.
More Then a Zombie to Me:
Hannah Montana gets a role on Jake's TV show. Miley discovers that she really does like Jake.
Good Golly, Miss Molly:
Miley loses a video tape of her confessing her love for Jake. Somehow it ends up in his possession. She needs to get it back.
People Who Use People:
Miley and Jake 'date' other people to make each other jealous. Jake and Miley confess their feelings for each other and become a couple, for a few minutes anyway.

I love this show but these are no where near my favorite episodes. So I'm not sure whether or not I'll be picking up the collection myself but if these episodes appeal to you or yours by all means buy the DVD.

Raven goes to the Tipton on a business trip with her boss, where she meets Zack and Cody who are having a suprise party for their moms birthday. Raven has a vision about a kid in a sweater vest running away which scares Cody. Hannah montana comes to the tipton and meets maddie who tells her about how her dad used to be an amazing country singer. The DVD also includes a Hannah Montana music video, a Raven trivia game and a never before seen episode of The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody where Cody tries to get Zack and Chef Paolo to eat healthy. You should definetly buy this!!
