(More customer reviews)I have been an avid viewer of "One Tree Hill" since the very first episode. I started watching the show as a replacement to the great "Dawson's Creek" (which ended several months prior to the release of Tree Hill), but I wasn't hooked for almost the entire first season. But then in the second season the writing got sharper (and franky more "out there,") the cast gelled together, and the rest is more or less television history. But to be perfectly honest this show should not have been the hit that it has become. But there is just something about watching these 6 teenagers live out the lives of adult, while the amazing dialogue that captures people and refuses to let go.
As a DVD reviewer once said: "High School Dramas are not made for high schoolers, they are made for the people that didn't have the high school experience they wanted." And "One Tree Hill" is the epoch of this discussion. And this is what makes the fifth season so special. After focusing on the groups High School years from seasons 1 thru 4, Season 5 fast-forwards the action 5 years, with all the kids living their own lives, much seperated (and grown up) from their 18-year-old alter-egos.
Whereas many believe the show would have out-right failed had season 5 progressed into the groups various freshman year of college experiences, it instead shines. The cast is allowed to play their own ages, and the viewers are able to see what happens when the real world comes into play. Every character has learned the harsh lessons that come with college and finally moving away from your parents/home town. The characters have finally learned how life can be without a security blanket. But alas I don't want to give away too much.
The start of season 5 finds Brooks as a very famous and wealthy fashion designer, Peyton as a struggeling record assistant, Lucas as a writer turned basketball coach, Haley starting her first year of Teaching English, and Nathan realing from a crippeling accident. But as fate (and the television producing gods) would have it, within three episodes the entire cast is back in Tree Hill for various reasons, and the series begins to progress from there.
The fifth season DVD include all 18 episodes from the strike-shortened season that aired from January until June 2008 (including the 100th Episode), with Unaired Scenes, Three Featurettes (one focusing on the 4 year jump, another on the 100th episode, and an other on the music), two episode commentaries (the season premier & 100th Episode), a gag reel, as well as a digital copy of each episode to watch on your computer/IPod. The episodes are spread across 5 discs and are presented in 1.78:1 Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound.

Although not up to par with the first season quality wise, the second season is still ten times better than the other shows on television today. The season starts off a tad bit on the slow side, but no need to worry, because things get heated up real fast.
Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) announced in the season one finale that they got married, so now, the second season has them starting to deal with their marriage. Things don't exactly go as smoothly as they had planned. There are temptations along the line, as well as their dreams for the future which start to bring them apart from one another. Haley starts a musical career with Chris Keller (Tyler Hilton), a new guy in Tree Hill, and eventually, she leaves Tree Hill and Nathan to go on a concert tour across the US, leaving Nathan devistated.
The love triangle drama from last season between Lucas (Chad Michael Murray), Peyton (Hilarie Burton), and Brooke (Sophia Bush) has been solved, and all three are friends with one another. Brooke finds herself attracted to her new neighbor, Felix (Michael Copon), as the two eventually hook up. Felix's younger sister, Anna (Daniella Alonso) finds herself attracted to Lucas, but she has some secrets of her own to hide. Felix brings much of the drama to Tree Hill between the teens in the second season, by intimidating most people, and of course, the classic 'Dare Night' he arranges.
Peyton finds herself lonely, because last season, she felt herself romantically attracted to Jake (Bryan Greenberg), but problems with custody of his 6 month old daughter, Jenny, caused him to leave Tree Hill. Peyton finds herself in a dark place, but Jake returns with Jenny, as Jake and Peyton become romantically involved, only for Jake's ex, Nikki (Emanuelle Vaugier) to return, wanting Jenny for herself. Eventually, Jake is arrested for not giving custody, as Nikki kidnaps Jenny, leaving Tree Hill.
The adults of Tree Hill also deal with drama themselves this season. After Dan (Paul Johanssen) found his wife Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) and his older brother Keith (Craig Scheffer) sleeping together, he was about to sign the divorce papers when he has a heart attack. He recovers, but Deb still remains with Dan, feeling sorry for him. To get back at Keith for sleeping with Deb, Dan hires Jules (Mia Menopolous) to make Keith fall in love with her, and then break his heart, just as Dan's had been when Keith slept with Deb. All happens, except Jules falls in love with Keith, as the revelations are brought forth, leaving both Keith and Jules heartbroken, and alone.
Karen (Moira Kelly) has gone back to college, enrolled in a business class, but finds herself falling in love with her professor, Andy. The two secretly date, but eventually Dan reveals their relationship to the class, leaving Karen extremely angry.
Deb has become addicted to painkillers this season, and is starting to spiral out of control with her life. Eventually she goes to rehab, and plans on leaving Tree Hill with Nathan.
But by the time the finale has come around, most of the characters have become infuriated with Dan for one reason or another, leading up to the explosive last five minutes, resulting in an attempted murder of Dan. Does he live? Or die? It's unknown at this point, or who even tried to kill him.
The second season of One Tree Hill is a must have for any fans, because the second season started to explore more into the characters, their relationships with one another, as well as their hopes and dreams. Much better than "just a teen soap", One Tree Hill is just so much better. It's for anyone, I'm a guy, which shows guys can like it too. It's not a girly soap opera, it's a show for everyone, even adults.
I highly recommend this, but be aware, it's highly addictive.

(More customer reviews)When I originally heard about the show "One Tree Hill" I couldn't help but think that it was going to be nothing more than a rip-off of "Dawson's Creek" which was one of the WB highest rated shows (and ended it's 6 year run 4 month before "one tree hill" premiered). But as a fan of the WB I tuned into the Pilot of the show. And the Pilot was bad, but it showed potential so I continued to watch the show and after about 8/9 rocky episodes, the show finally found it's footing and starting slowly to becoming one of my favorite shows on the air.
The show is about two brothers who grew up in the small town of tree hill and yet they barely know each other. Luke, who along with his mother was abandoned by his father before he was born, is the outsider; while Nate, who his father considers to be his only son, grew up to become one of the popular kids in school. But when Luke join's Nate's Basketball team, the two brothers beging to breakdown the years of walls their father has put between them.
Warner Brother's has put together a really nice set, releasing it a little earlier than usual (they usually wait til at least the third season of a show to release the first on DVD). The Set comes packaged the same was as all of Warner Brother's other WB sets (bookstyle packaging). The Special Featuresing include Commentary on 4 episodes, A Making-of Documentary, a Behind-the-Scenes Featurette, a Music Video, Gag Reel, and 48 Minutes of Deleted Scenes.

One Tree Hill - The Complete Third Season (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)In my junior year of high school ONE TREE HILL premiered after the cancellation of DAWSON'S CREEK and ever since the very first episode I tuned into the series trying to fill the void that DAWSON left. Yet despite the fact that every Thursday morning in Spanish class me and my fellow classmates would spend more time discussing the latest episodes than the verbs we where suppose to be congegating, the series was never really appointment television for me. Although towards the middle of the first season the writers changed part of their staff and the WB put more umpth behind the show and slowly the quality kept building until it reached its penicale in the third season - when ONE TREE HILL became my favorite television on the air (and this being said by a male college sophomore).
Starting in this, the third year, we find the characters very much established as well as their relationships to one another, their histories, and the place in the series as a whole. So right from the beginning of the season everything starts to click together, and once the action starts going and the momentium starts building (around episode four) the season doesn't take a breath.. even in the final moments of the season (literally).
After spending two season's depicted the gang's junior year of High School, Season Three starts out at the beginning of senior year for the gang and everyone is in a different place, trying to live their own lives: Peyton is dealing with loosing Jake, yet again, and to add to her problems her birth mother has come to town with a heartbreaking secret. Brooke returns to tree hill after moving to Los Angeles with her parents, still heartbroken over Lucas, but looking to move on and enjoy her senior year. Nathan and Hailey arn't speaking much, and are living in different homes basically just trying to get through the day without having to deal with one another. Lucas is trying to wrap his head around what happend with Dan in the dealership, and his newly discovered heart problem.
That just adds a summary to the very first couple of episodes and latter on in the season everything is turned upside-down by the untimely death of a major cast member in the mists of a local school shooting (a repercussion from last season's time-capsols), and from their everything starts to escalade into chaos leading up to the can't-take-a-breath seaosn finale (that came really close to being the series finale).
While season three doesn't deal with any of the major things about being a senior (prom, senior trip, college applicatons/exceptances, graduation, and moving on - that is all to be the focus of season four, currently airing on the CW), it is still the strongest season to date and a reason to stay tune for season four!

(More customer reviews)When I first saw previews for this show, I just wasn't really that interested for some reason, but I watched it one evening about 1/2 way through Season 1 and was hooked. There are things in the show that disturb me though such as basically no parental supervision for these teenagers. One of the couples is married(they are supposedly 17 yrs old and married!!) The only one who has any rules is Lucas Scott(Chad Michael Murray). The premise of the show is that Lucas's Mom got pregnant as a senior in high school and her boyfriend, Dan Scott went off to college on a basketball scholarship.
Deb met Dan during Freshman orientation - one month after Karen told Dan she was pregnant.
When Dan's dream of a basketball career didn't work out, he returned to town with the wife he met in college and his new son, Nathan. Needless to say, it makes an awkward situation. What I like about this show is that it is a little bit different from other teeny-bopper shows(which I generally do like) I really like the romance between Lucas(Chad Michael Murray) and Brooke (Sophia Bush) although I wish they were still together in real life. Rumor has it he cheated with Paris Hilton. That makes me sick. Yuck.

In season one, we are introduced to the residents of Tree Hill. In a small North Carolina town, two estranged half brothers carry on very different lives. Basketball prodigy Nathan Scott has inherited the throne of high school popularity once held by his father, Dan, while Lucas Scott, also a talented player, stays an outsider. Spending nights shooting hoops on a riverfront court, Lucas remains the son Dan never acknowledged. Now, Lucas' and Nathan's paths intersect for the first time, and in the middle of the crossroads stands Peyton Sawyer, Nathan's beautiful, edgy girlfriend who just may have more in common with Lucas. Throw in the quiet animosity between Dan and his brother, Keith, along with Lucas' mother, Karen--all of whom must cope with the aftermath of their choices--and something has to give. As Season Two unfolds, we see relationships change and characters evolve: Aside from their love for hoops, Lucas and Nathan seemed to have little in common. (More customer reviews)One Tree Hill remains one of the best shows on television even in it's seventh season and with the departure of Hilarie Burton and Chad Michael Murray.
It's fourteen months into the future and the season starts with a scandal that could derail Nathan's (James Lafferty) basketball career. Brooke (Sophia Bush) continues her work at Clothes Over Bros, along with her mother, Victoria (Daphne Zuniga) whom she had just reconnected with at the end of season 6. She also deals with her bumpy romance with Julian (Austin Nichols) who becomes a regular this season. Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) dives back into her music career and Millicent (Lisa Goldstein) spirals out of control as the season progresses, ruining her relationship with Mouth (Lee Norris), who eventually begins a small romance with Lauren (Allison Munn) after Skills (Antwon Tanner) leaves town for a job. Finally, Dan (Paul Johannson) is now the host of his own talk show, with Rachel (Danneel Harris) as his wife. Newcomers include Alex (Jana Kramer), an actress who has her eyes on Julian. Also new in town are Clay (Robert Buckley), Nathan's agent and Quinn (Shantel Vansanten), Haley's sister, who's just left her husband and has a passion for photography, Miranda (India de Beaufort) Haley's new sassy manager and Grubbs, the new bartender at Tric with a secret talent that has nothing to do with mixing drinks.
Other guest stars during the season include Taylor James (Lindsey Mckeon), who first appeared in season 2, as well as Kate Voegele, Stephen Colleti, Bess Armstrong (Haley's mother), Mitch Ryan (Brooke's model, Alex), Gregory Harrison and Amanda Schull (as Clay's wife & stalker tennis player Katie).
All in all, the season stays true to the show and continues to impress with fresh, funny and many times emotional and dramatic storylines that made the show the hit it is.
Don't miss out on this season. Even though Hil and Chad are gone, it's still staying strong without them.

unforgettable story lines, twists and surprises and introduces new characters from Peyton being stalked, Nathan cheating at the game he loves, Ravens winning the state championship, Peyton And Lucas finally being together, Graduation and Dan facing the harsh consequences for killing his brother and many more. This fourth season is a season no fan of One Tree Hill should ever miss. I highly recommend this season as a must have on DVD. You will not regret having it as part of your DVD collection.
