(More customer reviews)I finally purchased these as a Christmas gift for myself. If you are a fan of the "underground"-type shows or even the greats like Monty Python, you are likely to love these. The discs have spent more time in my DVD player than their cases. Very satisfying to watch again and again. If you've seen Dylan Moran's comedy act, hang on because this is where he goes well over the top. The humor is outlandish and sometimes a bit cruel, but absolutely brilliant! One of my favorite casts!

Edgar, Simon and Jess created a program which speaks directly to a specific group of people with whom they share so much in common. If you get the subtle inside jokes, you feel special, if not, you love it anyway because it's just so unique and funny. Spaced lays the foundation for many ongoing jokes (much like Kevin Smith's universe) in subequent Wright/Pegg/Frost films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. I own the UK version and will absolutely be buying this release too! Quite frankly, I'll buy anything from Edgar, Simon or Nick!

Big Train - Seasons 1 & 2 (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)I watched this first time round growing up in England around 10 years ago. When it was first released on DVD in the UK, I tried to bide my time hoping it would be released over here. It didn't work, however. I caved and bought it once about a year ago in Region 2 format and had to watch on my laptop, and am buying it again in Region 1 format now that it's been released over here--it's that good.
Like many classic comedies some of the sketches fall flat, but when it works, it REALLY works. Of those that immediately spring to mind, Ming the Merciless at home in his suburban townhouse, and The Artist Formely Known as Prince stalking his prey in the African savannah never lose their appeal.
The second season doesn't quite reach the heights of the first, although there are many gems in there too. For a sample, try You Tube, but to witness the entire thing, as intended, you need to buy the DVDs.
Also known as the show that launched Simon Pegg's ("Shaun of the Dead"; "Hot Fuzz") on the world.

It's not big and it's not a train. It's just funny. Big Train steams out of the comedy tunnel as realism meets utter stupidity in a cavalcade of daft sketches performed by high-quality actors in stunning costumes and vast sets reminiscent of the worst excesses of DW Griffith. There are also lots of sketches in offices. Along the way we meet shy policemen, pop stars chasing jockeys, a duck in danger, hens in armed combat, a confused Transport Minister, highly charged sexual politics and casual, though necessary, violence.
