(More customer reviews)If you enjoy your political satire thick with double entendres and really morbidly twisted views; then this is for you. Fans of Southpark might have to be a bit higher on the intelligence scale to understand some of the jokes but, for those of us who have gotten older and still appreciate this duos still going strong famous show...well...it's time to graduate. Sadly this got cancelled before it could be even more relevant. Not only is the president presented as a bumbling idiot...he is presented as a bumbling idiot who tries not to be. Episodes mock all of the current hot button issues of the time while at the same time making a mockery of all 2 camera sitcoms in general. Enjoy the cheesy-ness that is Golden Girls and any other vapid 'teen' sitcom with hollow characters? Then this one is for you. Annoying neighbors, smartass maids, and ditzy sexpot blondes; they are all here! Enjoy what is soon to become a solid cult classic with the dvd release. Where else are you going to see what Stone and Parker can do with a live cast other than whatever future films they attempt to make?

John Oliver is best known for his mock news reporting on The Daily Show with John Stewart. John Oliver follows in the footsteps of Stephen Colbert and Steve Carrell and easily lives up to expectations. Oliver's special focuses largely on politics, newscasting, and some classic commentary on the differences between Britons and Americans (Oliver was born in Britain and educated at Cambridge). His ability to take the "outsiders" perspective on American life while fully embracing it is unique. I was thrilled to see him get his own 1-hour comedy special on Comedy Central (reproduced here uncensored and with additional features). Highly recommended for fans of the Daily Show and Colbert Report!

The Best of the Colbert Report (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)If you're a dedicated viewer of the Report, you might find yourself a bit disappointed with this DVD. While it does feature some of the major highlights of the past couple years, there is so much missing: no gag reel, no behind-the-scenes, no sign of segments like Tip of the Hat, Who's Honoring Me Now, Alpha Dog of the Week, Cheating Death, Bears and Balls, the Atone Phone, etc. The disc features only one Threatdown and two Words. The Report is a big show packed with hilarity, and often it's the little things (character breaks, malfunctions, random absurdity) that truly make it great. Comedy Central would do well in the future to include some montages that capture more of TCR's daily wit instead of presenting only the biggest events as an uninspired overview.
