Since I love all types of movies (documentary, action, comedy, drama, etc.), I saw this movie for what it was...an enjoyable way to spend some time. If you are looking for light-hearted entertainment that doesn't require you to think, then this movie fits the bill. Dermot Mulroney is great as the suave date bought by Debra Messing's character. And Messing shines as the woman who blossoms during her courtship with her date. And for those who think she's too beautiful to need to buy a date, they haven't seen the many beautiful single women of the world. Not all movies are meant to be deep and thought-provoking, some are just meant to make you smile...and this movie delivers.

Coupling - The Complete First Season (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)When they get around to posting an editorial review here, inevitably the comparisons between Coupling and Friends will fly. Don't pay attention. Yes there are superficial similarities -- 6 attractive singles evenly divided between men and women, etc. -- but this is comedy in the great British tradition of farce and has much more in common with Fawlty Towers or Blackadder than with any American sitcom. I'll admit that the incessant need to label the unlabelable (word?) owes a debt to Seinfeld, though.
Episodes included on this first season set are:
"Flushed" -- Steve (the beset Jack Davenport) tries, mostly unsuccessfully, to break up with Jane (the mad Gina Bellman), while beginning a relationship with Susan (the radiant Sarah Alexander).
"Size Matters" -- Steve and Susan's relationship reaches a new level. Sally (the moisturized Kate Isitt) is horrified by Patrick's (the swaggering Ben Miles) political beliefs.
"Sex, Death and Nudity" -- Everyone ends up at Jane's aunt's funeral. Jeff (the crazed Richard Coyle) has his job interview strategy boomerang on him.
"Inferno" -- Susan discovers Steve's video collection. A dinner party goes awry.
"The Girl with Two Breasts" -- Jeff tries to connect with a girl who doesn't speak English.
"The Cupboard of Patrick's Love" -- Susan discovers that her ex (Patrick) has videotape of her in a compromised position.
There is a second season of nine episodes currently in rotation on BBCAmerica for you digital cable subscribers. And a third season has just begun airing in England.
Also, word is that an Americanized version of this show is being groomed as a replacement for ... aw, you guessed it. The soon-to-end Friends. See where it all began here.
And see where it (probably) was a whole lot funnier. Unfair pre-judgment. But probably true.

Coupling - The Complete Second Season (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)I picked this up the day it was released. Yes, you can watch "Coupling" on BBC America, but these DVD's are worth it, because they still edit some content for time. With Season 2, you get the following 9 episodes:
THE MAN WITH TWO LEGS: Jeff finally works up the nerve to approach a girl on the tube whose leg he's been gawking at each day. Will he blow it with another one of his bumbling lines?
MY DINNER IN HELL: Steve bumps into a television presenter he's always fantasized about, and Jane has a fool-proof hairbrained scheme that she swears will help she and Sally meet her.
HER BEST FRIENDS BOTTOM: Steve makes a surprise visit at Susan's apartment, thinking it is she in the shower. It's Sally, and the entire episode revolves around that fact that Steve saw her bottom.
THE MELTY MAN COMETH: Will Patrick and Sally finally come together? If Patrick doesn't stop "failing" then perhaps they can!
JANE AND THE TRUTH SNAKE: In possibly one of the funniest episodes ever, Jane loses her job as traffic reporter. Never fear! She has a career plan up her sleeve that involves children's entertainment and a sock puppet. That's all I'll say.
GOTCHA: One year after their first date, a wedding invite is sent to Steven and Susan. Steve, of course, panics into thinking Susan will now pe expecting a proposal herself.
DRESSED: The meaning of Jane's invite to a dinner date is misunderstood, and she shows up naked under her coat. When she arrives to a flat full of guests, she has to do some quick thinking (rather a lot for Jane, really!).
NAKED: Jeff's 30th birthday is coming, and his workmates have planned a surprise celebration for him. Again, invites are misunderstood and Jeff ends up stripping down naked in front of his workmates...and his parents!
THE END OF THE LINE: Steve and Susan both assume aliases to swap phone numbers with other people in a bar, but the hilarity ensues when they realize it's with each other!
Extras include more interviews with the cast and executive producer. What they really need is some outtakes, because I have a feeling they'd be hilarious! Worth every penny.

(More customer reviews)I have not seen the DVD version but I have seen every episode. This is our favorite British Comedy!!! I enjoy Friends but I never laugh this hard. My husband almost hurt himself laughing at poor neurotic Jeff doing his blindfolded strip tease for his "surprise" birthday party!!! Much wittier than Friends could be. The storylines in each episode are great!!! They are so convoluded with twist and turns. The American/NBC version was absolutely painful for us to watch..we wrote to NBC to complain! PLease don't compare the American version to the original - they are apples and oranges. The original is fantastic and I've ordered mine!! Can't wait til Christmas on this one!
