Vivere Live in Tuscany (2008) Review

Vivere Live in Tuscany (2008)

This concert is currently paying ON PBS all over the USA and is a wonderful event. It was recorded in Bocelli's Home town in Tuscany and is in a beautiful outdoor setting. The songs are all the songs from his new Hits collection plus more. Andrea Bocelli, is the world's most popular tenor (and Best selling) and pop sensation as well, This set is all pop (crossover), Though some of it has a classical feel to it.
The Songs include a nice selection of some of Bocelli's best work Bocelli has a very beautiful voice, that expresses much emotion. His tone and diction are excellent and his Volume is much better then the critics claim, he voice is always moving, his singing touches one's heart and goes right into ones soul. The tracks include Songo;; Canto Della Sera duet with Sarah Brightman; a Medley, (Besame mucho \ Somos novios - It's impossible \ Can't Help Falling In Love); Time to Say Goodbye-Con Te Partino; (with Sarah Brightman), Vivo Per Lei- duet with Heather Headley; Melodrama; The Prayer- duet with Heather Headley; and Because We Believe; a new English/Italian version of Vivere called Dear To Live with Laura Pausani a popular Italian singer; A wonderful song called La Voce Del Silenzio duet with Elisa; a beautiful song called A TE featuring Kenny G on saxophone; A very cool classical sounding song with Lang Lang, on Piano, called IO CI SARO; and another new song, very contemporary, called BELLISSIME STELLE which may be my favorite song of the new songs. Also doen with Chris Botti is Italia a new song written by David Foster and on Botti's new album with Andrea questing on vocals, and it is a beautiful song.
The Extra Audio CD has 7 songs Italia, live version featuring Chris Botti; La Voce Del Silenzio, featuring Elisa; Medley, (Besame mucho \ Somos novios - It's impossible \ Can't help falling in love) Live version; Canto Della Terra, featuring Sarah Brightman; Mille Lune Mille Onde; Se La Gente Usasse Il Cuore; and Domani, one of my favorite songs.
This is a great DVD (and or set) for any Bocelli fan, for the fan because it is beautiful and has the 6 new songs (5 new and one alternative version, Plus different partners on the Duets). And is a great set for new fans because it has many of his hits. This would be a good first DVD for someone new to Bocelli.

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli grew up in Lajatico, a rural village in Tuscany, where his family still farms nearby. Last July, on the slopes of his ancient hill town, a special theater was constructed for a one-night-only concert of his greatest popular hits along with new songs performed to honor the occasion. Some famous musical friends dropped by and the magical result is Andrea Bocelli - Vivere - Live in Tuscany, premiering this December on PBS. Joining Andrea for the new songs are "grandissimo sassofonista" Kenny G, trumpeter Chris Botti, piano virtuoso Lang Lang, Italian pop star Eliza, and legendary musician, songwriter and producer David Foster. Helping with the hits: favorite divas Sarah Brightman, Heather Headley and Laura Pausini. Surveying the breathtaking landscape that provides the backdrop for the festivities, Bocelli introduces the telecast with the passion of a true Toscano. "It's my land," he says, "a land that loves silence as much as I do. If I break this silence with my voice, it's because I want to pay tribute. Music penetrates this land; it flows across it and flies off far away. It's a message of love." Musical highlights include the song that launched Bocelli's career, "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera"; the one that brought him international stardom, "Time to Say Goodbye," in duet with Sarah Brightman; Laura Pausini joining him for "Dare to Live" ("Vivere"); Bocelli and Heather Headley reprising the popular "Vivo Per Lei," plus several new selections from the just-released The Best of Andrea Bocelli - Vivere album (Sugar Music/Decca). Also featured is a meltingly romantic medley of songs from his 2006 collection, Amore: "Bésame Mucho," "Somos Novios" ("It's Impossible") and "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You." Caught In The Act (2009) Review

Caught In The Act (2009)

Many opinions have been posted here on the release of this CAUGHT IN THE ACT blu ray. Why reissue something we have already seen? Why no new live material from Michael Buble? These can be valid questions but I also agree that they also have nothing to do with the quality of this item. I shall try to offer my perspective and hopefully it will help you decide whether you wish to purchase it.
First off, I in no way think Michael Buble is milking his fans. Blu ray is an amazing gift to film and video enthusiasts. A good blu ray transfer is miles above even the highest quality dvd in picture quality and audio presentation. Due to the brilliance of blu ray almost everything that sold well on dvd is being reissued on blu ray for it is such an improvement. I doulble dipped here and was thrilled when I heard it was coming on blu ray.
I have a high end blu ray player, a hd television and a high end receiver. An hd television is really a must to be able to fully appreciate blu ray. I found the picture quality stunning. Colors are crisp, flesh tones are amazing and the clarity crystal clear. When Michael is on stage you can see every line on his face, every drop of sweat. He appears as if he is in your room with you, as if you are actually at the concert. This is the reason for blu ray.
I must admit at first with the audio i had a problem finding the best level to play it at. I found the volume varied greatly from the audience clapping to Michael singing. I was surprised for DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 is an excellent source. But then I remembered my receiver had different audio settings for music recordings so I changed the audio to CONCERT and it greatly improved but when I changed it to JAZZ the sound bacame impeccable. The sound level between Michael and the orchestra was perfection and audience participation stayed at a greatly enjoyable steady level. He runs into the audience, uses lighting a lot in his show and the picture holds strong thru it all.
The performance most Michal Buble fans will already know. First off, the concert is 120 minutes and not the 90 minutes it says in the item description by Amazon. This is a stellar concert with a wide range of superb song selections. Michael Buble is in true form with his pure artistry in the forefront. I have seen him live twice and watching this brings me back again. The dvd never really did for me. Michael is an amazing performer. He puts so much into his stylings of his songs including his effective body movements and his camaraderie with the audience is a joy to watch. He is funny, energetic, sincere, humble and a true gentleman.
Bottom line, you know Michael Buble and you probably already know this concert. If you love the concert and have the equipment to enjoy blu ray at its finest I recommend double dipping here. When I watch it on my 37" hd tv I am mezmerized and have no complaints. I find this blu ray transfer a huge success.

The Princes of Malibu: The Complete Series (2005) Review

The Princes of Malibu: The Complete Series (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Princes of Malibu is reality TV taken to such a cartoonish extreme that it can't really be considered reality TV anymore - I mean, once you've put a full-on dream sequence into your show (as well as an army of Elvises, multiple attempts to sell music awards on eBay, more celebrity cameos than a 2000s era Simpsons episode, and musical stings fo each character) your pretensions of showing real life have pretty well gone out the window.
The central conceit of the show is that multimillionare record producer David Foster's two stepsons have just been kicked out of college and are living it up at his Malibu mansion, making a huge mess and holding gigantic parties without his knowledge. So Foster tells them that if they don't start paying $10,000 a month in rent, he'll throw them out. Ignoring all thoughts of getting jobs, the boys turn to their permanent houseguest and "best friend" Spencer Pratt (who is also an executive producer on the show) and start scheming and scamming.
But really, has reality TV ever been about realism? I don't think so. Reality TV is about insanely over-the-top situations and people in the same manner as scripted TV, it is just a bit more improvisational (in theory) than a scripted sitcom. "Princes" takes this to its logical extreme. So, why should you, dear reader, watch the show?
1. For the hilariously over-the-top schemes. I don't want to give away too much, but essentially you have the wacky hijinks of the Simpsons or Ed, Edd, and Eddy but done in real life (for certain values of real life). The boys are like obnoxious frat boys given an unlimited budget and told to scheme, and things get zany fast.
2. For the strange frission of rooting for and against pretty much every character simultaneously. David's right in just about everything he says, but he still comes across as if he's also rude and insulting to people who don't deserve it. The boys may be lazy, ungrateful, and the like, but in a sense they typify a rebellion against authority that I think everyone can on some level identify with. It seems like to see them as completely "the enemy", you'd really have to see Michael's goofy ideas in The Office as "unfunny, because they could hurt the company's long-term survivability", and the Three Stooges as simply poor role models for our children with their excessive eye-based violence.
3. To see Spencer Pratt in something before The Hills - sure, he's still kind of a scumbag, but here, he is at least a semi-likeable scumbag.
4. To recapture the mood of wicked excess in 2003-04 that gripped certain segments of our society - one can see the show as, like Dynasty or Dallas, a sort of period piece. When your children ask what caused the housing bubble, you can show them "Princes of Malibu" and say "those people, mostly".
General internet reaction seems to be against the show, but I urge you to give it a try - I watched it with my cousins last summer and we all found it hilarious. And hey, it's only $8 - certainly much cheaper than a new movie, and it's about 4 hours of content (no commentary either, just straight episodes).

Hit Man: David Foster And Friends (2009) Review

First off let me say I am not a fan of "double dipping" but I made an exception for this disc after purchasing the DVD version several months back I knew it was a must own on BD when I saw it come out last week. For those who thought it was full screen, relax it just like the DVD, 16:9 widescreen. I give the picture quality 4/5 stars. It is an amazing improvement over the SD DVD. Slight grain and some noticeable edge enhancement keep it from being a perfect 5.
Now for the hidden Easter Egg I found! The Menu list only 2 Channel PCM Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1 BUT I was cycling through the audio formats on my remote and low and behold DTS 5.1 - HD Master popped up on the screen !!!!!! It was a HUGE improvement. All of the sudden the audio exploded out of the A/V receiver with jaw dropping clarity. I give the audio 5/5.
This has become my defacto concert demo disc until David Foster gets together with Andrea Bocelli and they re-release the 2006 "Under the Desert Sky" on Blu-Ray (please, please!). This concert has something for everybody. Over 2 dozen stars in just over 2 hours that goes by in what seems like only 30 minutes.
