(More customer reviews)This is a pretty good adaptation of Cara Lockwood's novel of the same name, although as any book to movie transition, a lot of left on the cutting room floor. But what is captured is the chemistry of the leads, Lauren and Nick, as well as the deviousness of the psycho-bride, Darla.
Basically, it is the story of a harried wedding planner in the middle of a divorce who meets the fireman of her dreams, only to discover that he may be the groom in an upcoming wedding.
Really charming and romantic!

Weeds: Season Three (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)I'm disappointed to see many negative reviews of the 3rd Season. I got mine from Amazon last week and have already watched the whole season and it was great! I was nervous going in because I had heard from various people that season three wasn't as good, but after I got watching I was not at all sure what the fuss was about, the show is pushing itself and growing in new directions like it needs to if it's going to survive. The show challenges you to think about "drugs," what's right and wrong, and examines the inter-workings of suburbia with such cleverness that I am always pleasantly surprised.
Nancy Botwin is the perfect character, you love her, but sometimes want to slap her. Parker is an amazing actress and makes this show work from beginning to end. I also love her youngest Shane, he's excellent this season and glad to see him getting more and more airtime. This show is both funny and heartbreaking and blows most shows on TV right now out of the water.
I'm really excited to see how season 4 plays out. I think it's a great sign that they are breaking out of the "little boxes."
Don't listen to the negative reviews. If you liked season 1 and 2 you will love season 3!

Cupid & Cate (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)I was not expecting much from Cupid & Cate.
After all, after reading that the 2000 film would be broadcast on St. Valentine's week via the Hallmark Channel, I was subjected to the tortures of endless promos for the "Love and Romance" week.
In short, I was expecting the quintessential, dreaded and demonic cash seeking "Date Movie".
You know the drill, a cute little romantic alleged comedy, starring the likes of Sandra Bullock or Hugh Grant or even worse, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant TOGETHER.
Even commercials or online descriptions of the film, portrayed the film as something like: "The only thing standing in the way of true love for Cate....is her fiancée".
Hand me the remote.... Survivor in the Amazon is on!
To be honest, the film starts off just that way. It was easily predicted that the well meaning, but dull as watching paint drying fiancée would hit the road before the start of the second act. However, it quickly became apparent that the romantic aspects of the film, although genuinely portrayed by an excellent cast, were secondary. The film is primarily about the strained relationship between a father and daughter and how their experiences parallel one another.
It made for fascinating viewing, with outstanding performances from Philip Bosco and Mary-Louise Parker. After struggling to sit through the nearly banal Mr. Wonderful, where Ms. Parker was given 1 descent scene, here she really shines. One can easily see the development in her art over her performances from the early 90's. As good as her performance was in A Place For Annie, she's even better here. A very tender and above all, real performance. Peter Gallagher and Brenda Fricker are also standouts.
Added attractions to the film are beautiful autumn scenes and Ms. Parker's rather eccentric wardrobe (check out her hat during the christening scene, just stunning).
Cupid & Cate is highly recommended viewing and would actually make a better Father's Day DVD purchase than for Cupid's holiday.
I even forgot The West Wing was on.
Three and a half stars out of four.

Confessions of an American Bride (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)First off, if you've ever had doubts about a current relationship, this movie is for you. I just got done watching it with a fine bottle of muscato wine. I must say this movie has exemplified almost all of my feelings I have when I'm in a serious relationship. What if there is someone else out there? What if I never sleep with another man again? What if the relationship does a complete 180? What if the man of my current dreams isn't what he seems? I felt that almost all of these issues were brought into perspective in this movie. The man she meets seems too good to be true, her crush from a previous life comes back to bring all of her feelings and or fears (any normal person's fears anyway) into the forefront less than 6 months before her wedding day! The movie is comically laid out, little tidbits that break into the movie of her in a perfectly pristine environment in all white explaining her doubts, fears and all of her desperate wantings which is good, it is as if you're brought into her mind after hitting a pause button as she narrates. I fully recommend this movie to any woman or man who has any doubts about the person they're currently seeing or are fully serious about and have doubts. Total girl movie night/sleepover flick. Light-hearted with a lot of "oh no, oh no, oh no, don't do that" moments to keep the fun rolling along. This is officially my first review of any movie an amazon and I hope it is helpful.
